After that expired it was 30 minutes longer and I had to call and remind them she was sitting outside. Then they forgot to give her my drink .... called and said sorry we got busy...really!!!! Living so close, we've been here quite a few times over the past 10 years. They've remodeled in the past year, and now have a bar area in the front, which we haven't checked out, but the rest of the restaurant is updated and more modern. They do offer a drive thru, which used to take almost as long as going inside, but on yesterday's visit was extremely fast and pleasant. Service is usually good, albeit comical on occasion. They offer barbeque everything, my favorite being the pulled pork or the sliced beef. Their sweet sauce is so good, I could probably overdose on it. My son loves to come here and fill up on their lemonade, ribs, and corn on the cob. Their mac and cheese is also really creamy and good. I enjoy their salad bar, which is usually equipped with lots of toppings and dressings. Soup rotates on a daily basis, but they have a chicken & dumpling soup that is very southern and delicious. My favorite appetizer is the corn nugget basket with ranch. I'm not sure what they do to their ranch dressing, but it's the best I've ever had. I do feel it's a little pricy for barbeque, but for convenience I choose it every time. read more

I have gone to this particular restaurant in Wesley Chapel several times throughout the last year or so, most of the time the service has been adequate to pretty good. The last time I went, like three weeks ago, the night was busy, not overwhelmingly so, but still busy. I sat at the bar to order some food, and the counter was not properly cleaned, I thought I was the only one who noticed, until an elderly couple next to me murmured the same thing amongst themselves. So, it took about five to ten minutes for the woman manning the counter to take my order, a coke, and then my meal. After I got a drink refill, it was only filled like 3/4 of the way. I didnt have any silverware and alerted the lady about this, the couple next to me quickly handed me some silverware that had not been touched sitting next to them. I think it was because they thought I might get a bit testy and hostile because of not having what I needed. I forgave everything, gave the woman the benefit of the doubt, as she's served me before in the past with no real issues. Figured she was just off her game. Until, that is, my last drink refill was filled half way. That was it, I had it and did not tip her. I absolutely thought race had something to do with it, as I am a black man, and she was white. In the past I had gone out of my way to tip this woman, running to the bank and coming back to hand her a tip, when I didn't have the cash on-hand. There was no reason I should have been treated in this way. I would advise you guys to look for another place to eat. read more

Sonny's is 5 star BBQ, but this location loses a star because EVERY time we leave here with takeout we have to double check the order before we leave the building. Too many trips back for something they forgot. And of course, the staff hates us, but I'm sorry, it's corn bread or garlic bread and baked potato, sweet potato or fries. Although we aren't regulars ar Sonny's I've been there enough times over the past few decades to say, that every experience I've had there has been consistent. Being seated is always the roughest part of the experience. The hostess never seems completely sure what table to bring you too, has to check a couple of papers, and employs some top secret Sonny's equation to make the right decision that ensures all servers receive their fair share of customers. Despite the seating process, the hostesses have always been friendly during the seating process. The servers are always friendly, the restaurant is always clean, and if there is a wait, it isn't usually too long. The food at Sonny's is reliable, and that is a good thing. We had chicken and a few different types of ribs, and it was all good. The sides are also delectable, my favorite is the okra. The prices here are also reasonable. This is a good solid place for barbecue. Not the best, not the worst, but reliable. If you like bbq and want to go mainstream and reliable, Sonny's is a good choice. read more

We went to Sonny's this afternoon and had very slow service. Once the waitress finally made it to our table we were prepared to order our food as well as drinks. When the food came out about thirty minutes later my fries were cold and the bread I'd requested on the side was not. I didn't even bother to tell the staff. The new award winning ribs my girlfriend ordered were not at all to her liking (she's a rib connoisseur). The waitress finally asked if our food was ok and I replied that the ribs were tough and that only one had been eaten. She said, well they are not for everyone and left. All we could do was laugh. Pretty decent BBQ for a restaurant and probably some of the best peach cobbler I've ever had. If I went on food alone or even the service by the actual server, this would probably be a 4 star review rather than 2 but food alone does not make for a good meal. My biggest problem was some of their policies. I was wondering how they could make money serving "all you can eat" ribs and quickly figured it out. They start with around a half rack. Once you finish those, you order more, and they start bringing them 3 ribs at a time but only after you finish what's there. Therefore, you basically wait around 15 minutes for 3 ribs after you finish the last 3. What that means to me is not "all you can eat" but more like all you feel like waiting for. Then I had a bite of the recommended Mac N Cheese, if you like Kraft, you will like this. If you have higher expectations look out. The ribs really took a nose dive, they just plain sucked, no smokey flavor I mean they taste like they were cooked in an oven by an amateur. I really liked this BBQ establishment. We were greeted by a nice gentleman and quickly seated. I liked the rustic look and I always check the bathroom for cleanliness, and the entire restaurant was clean. We ordered the red neck egg rolls, they were ok. I had the St. Louis ribs, similar to Chinese spare ribs, they have the same texture and bite, I'm glad to say they were excellent! My other guests had the baby back ribs, huge portion and very good and also the pulled pork sandwich, also a good portion and tasty. The service was fantastic, the waitress was so nice, her name was Florence. Oh yes, they had the best flavored ice tea in tampa/Wesley chapel. We had no room for desert, maybe next time.
