This place is great! It is very small when you walk in but there is a good amount of seating with the bar and tables. The service is always great and the staff is so nice. The food is very amazing! I always order the truffalo burger and it is so good every time! I would recommend this place to a friend!

I used to come here in college when it was a bar. The interior didn't seem much different! Wasn't sure what to expect but the reviews were good so we thought we'd try it out. Surprisingly good food! And nicely presented. Service was ok, beers were refilled but not my soda. Everything we had was good. The fried goat cheese, hot honey chicken, pimento steak and cheese were all yummy. Fries were addicting. It was a bit hard to hear in there with the acoustics.

We were visiting family in the area and they had reservations for us here. It's a an pretty neat old school bar with a focus on great cocktails and some unique food. They have created a unique range of dishes that have a nod to southern favorites. The drinks were great and had some unique flavors. We started with the deviled egg special of the day (Buffalo blue cheese) and some pork cracklings. The deviled eggs had a nice flavor with just enough spice. The cracklins were crispy but the seasoning wasn't as strong as expected. Each of us tried different meals ranging from burgers to brisket and pork and grits. The burger was quite tasty and flavorful. The creamy grits and porywas nice with spicy collard greens. They were not spicy and could have had a bit mor blanching time. The pork was very flavorful and super tender. The brisket was a bit dry but the cornbread was great. It almost tasted like there was a touch of orange flavoring as well as nice sweetness that was caramelized on the griddle to give it a crispy exterior. This place has character and a very unique menu. It's really close to 4 stars. The food items are good, but could be great. The staff is friendly and attentive. We enjoyed it and we probably visit again.

"Truffalo" chicken sandwich, modern love cocktail

The food and service here is always amazing. Only 4 stars because the "truffalo" that I've known and loved for years only tasted like Buffalo. Was still a good sandwich, but I don't go there for a Buffalo sandwich. Also, it seems like their Darryl strawberry (not pictured) is more pineapple-ey than ever, vs strawberry. Hoping for more truff in my buff the next visit.

These were insanely good. Brussels Sprouts- hot honey / crushed peanut / scallion

Sonny's Tavern is a must try. I will literally dream about The Brussel Sprouts with hot honey. I will definitely return when I'm in the area.

We love Sonny's tavern. The service is always fantastic. It's a small place but doesn't feel over crowded. Their cocktails are sooo good. I recommend the drink The Passenger. Taste like a dessert. They have the best Brussels sprouts. We have never had anything there that we dislike

Great place for brunch! Eggs Benedict was outstanding with house-made sauce. Friendly hipster types for staff were very attentive.

Great menu, knowledgeable staff and everything you need on tap or in bottles. The only spot you need to go to in Dover.

On a blustering cold winter night, we stumbled into Ember after discovering the eatery as a nearby…read moredining option while visiting the area. A convenient parking lot directly across the street was a gem since we were in a hurry to warm back up inside. Upon entering, it seemed like a quiet night for the restaurant. The hostess at the front desk was not particularly welcoming or friendly to our family of four, and although there were available tables on the main level, she said she was seating us upstairs. We followed her up to a beautiful dining space with an impressive bar, warm lighting, rustic details, and so much charm. Our server, Scott, was fantastic! Incredibly knowledgeable and patient, providing great recommendations from the menu. We were able to enjoy a delicious dinner, featuring the Ember Burger (so many layers of flavor with a shallot jam, mustard aioli, and cherrywood bacon), a kids' pizza (which is basically a whole medium pizza), and delicious Chicken Vodka Parmesan, which has some kick from the house-made spicy vodka sauce. In the mood to be adventurous, I explored the specialty cocktail menu, crafted with unique ingredients and thoughtfulness. Based on Scott's recommendation, I opted for the Hummingbird Down, made with green chartreuse from Carthusian monks and house-made honey syrup. The herbaceous, spirited beverage was so complex that I enjoyed it until the last sip. I can see the appeal of this location for an intimate date night, chill girls' dinner, and even private events; the space is beautiful! If we lived locally, we'd certainly be coming back!

The upstairs was cozy and conducive to great conversation. The bar was easy to access and both bartenders were delightful. The bar menu was quite extensive and the drink offerings were creative. They set up a nice buffet. The food was OK. Many of the attendees were from UNH and commented that the quality was similar to what you get at a UNH event. I liked the meatballs, the gravy (sauce) was better than most places, but there was no red pepper flakes or parm available to enhance. The empanadas looked great but were just OK... They would benefit from some hot sauce. All in all, I would recommend Ember for a catered event, business meeting, etc for its ambiance, service, clean and convenient rest room, beautiful bar, and ample parking in the garage.

I always feel so much better after visiting Stalk-it's a light in the darkness, when things feel so…read moredark that you feel swallowed up by it. A cook, myself, I've been held prisoner in jobs that make one feel discouraged due to indifference and laxity. Eating here, taking in the pride of craft and respect for the clientele makes me realise that places -and people-do exist that truly care about about the customer and strive to make them forget their lives outside the comforting walls of this restaurant. We shared a couple of apps: a crispy-skin chicken leg, indeed crispy and as usual, perfectly cooked, as usual. there are few greater pleasures in life like chicken that is juicy and cooked with an expert hand. It came with excellent ricotta mashed potatoes so good my daughter-who normally refuses to eat mashed potato-had to be fended off with my fork so Dad could swipe a couple forkfuls! The dark, flavorful sauce complimented both the meat and the potatoes. We also got the charred Halloumi cheese with pork belly with sweet and sour grapes and a whiff of finely chopped sage, again having to fend off my daughter for my portion...I was detecting a trend here... For the main courses, my wife got the Black Cod with nicely browned fingerling potatoes and braised cabbage/asparagus. She rarely ate unbreaded fish until Stalk introduced her to exquisitely cooked and seasoned fish filets. My daughter got the mushroom and eggplant kofta with a superb cashew hummus and grilled pita that was cooked with love-grilled enough to get grill marks, but not so long as to cook the life out it-they were still soft and fluffy, with just enough crisp to make scooping the hummus practicable. I got, against my usual practice of eating through the menu (as much as possible during a recipe cycle) to get the Sweet Potato Cavatelli-this is one of those dishes that I could never get often enough. the pasta dishes here are unfailingly excellent, with little culinary surprises in every one-this one, for me, in a dish with sausage AND pork belly no less, the unifying surprise is the Balsamic black butter! It just made every bite taste,,,right, perfectly complimenting the dish and making a delightfully whole flavour profile that one would not, perhaps, expect at a first blush. Taken with the Almond Romesco, it gave a slightly sweet, acidic depth that woke and gratified my palate. Again, as a cook, I appreciate the care and consideration on display that a dish such as this displays. It makes me happy... Our desserts, sadly a harbinger of the meals' approaching end, left us with a nice parting glow-the Coconut Rice pudding-with a mango compote, ginger candied cashews and flashy cherry crisps was nice, light finisher, as was the, wait for it, English pea Mojito ice cream. This follows the Mad Scientist-esque genius of Stalk's ice creams. The unbridled exuberance on display with the ice cream flavours, always makes me lean towards the ice creams over many other fine and tempting desserts...this was no exception. The peas provided a subtle pea flavor, the chill mellowing the flavor we typically associate with peas, but not losing it, is worth a victory lap on its own. The zest of lime and a nicely chiffonaded mint layered on the finishing touches without overtaking the finish, a sign of the practiced hands at work. I also must make mention of the French Press coffee service, there is truly no better way to take your coffee than via a French Press, it is so very nice to indulge in this simple life pleasure outside of my own kitchen... I would be terribly remiss if I didn't give a shout out to the staff-from the exceedingly professional and courteous staff, to the bartender who was very engaging and free with her smiles all night, the professionals preparing our dinner, who deserve much credit for turning Chefs' vision into delicious and intruiging plates of food for all of us to enjoy, and finally to Chef Nicole, who is everywhere making sure everything is running as smooth as possible, yet taking the time to chat with the patrons whenever possible. Our trips to Stalk are almost a pilgrimage-a reminder that cooking can be a joy, and that striving for that goal of making the diner perhaps, through the care and excellence of the food and its preparation, make them forget the nonsense outside the walls of the restaurant for even just an hour or so. This a lofty and noble goal, and one, for this diner, is always met. I hope it is for you, as well
