I would love to give Sono 5 stars due to their consistent fresh quality, but there are little things here and there that are keeping me from doing so. First off, almost every time I had ordered delivery from here, they've gotten my order wrong. Only once did it come correctly on the first try. One time, the order got messed up THREE times in a row and they kept sending me things of much lesser cost than what I ordered, and upon calling the third time they tried to charge me 40+ dollars again for their mistake. I wouldn't have mind had they sent me something incorrect that cost the same, but getting something that cost 7-10 and being told you have to repay is ridiculous. The woman on the phone was a new employee and definitely shouldn't have been taking orders yet. They also charge you 5-6 dollars if you ask for specific fish(s), so if you're allergic to something expect to pay more just for that. I requested that my Sashimi be only Salmon and Shrimp (two of the cheapest meats), and was refused and I had an unpleasant talk with the manager who refused to explain to me why I would be charged extra for something that wouldn't cost them more money - along with being fairly impatient and rude. Compared to other Sushi places on the borders of the towns around me, Sono has the highest price for small rolls/cuts of Sushi. Sashimi from Sono I've found equals about half the size of the Sashimi I've bought elsewhere, it's also a smaller serving size and costs more. Same thing with the Nigiri, though Nigiri is always smaller, I've found that Nigiri from Sono is especially tiny and has very little fish in it. Not enough bang for your buck if you ask me. I've deducted these opinions upon ordering delivery and coming into Sono probably around 10 times now, and have decided that I wont be buying food here any time soon. It's a nice place to go for a date, as it's in a nice location and is very classy inside, but I personally would rather drive the same distance in a different direction if I can pay less for the same quality sushi that is also much more generous with fish. read more

Sad decline. When the restaurant opened the owner was enthusiastic and friendly and the food was prepared with care. Dinner tonight was met with a surly hostess/waitress and bland food prepared poorly. The wait for one of our diners was also too long. Won't be coming back. I showed up on the first day of opening, and have been waiting for it to open for a while. Of course, it's always a plus when it's down the street from my house. The decor looked very modern and the folks there were very pleasant. Although it was my first time, I had a great experience. I'm looking forward to going there again. My husband and I found our dinner at Sonos to be delicious last night! The Coconut Shrimp app. was crispy and came with a nice dipping sauce. The Peking Raviolis (Dumplings) were pan fried, (you can order them steamed also) were flavorful & done just right. The Summer Rolls, (my favorite) had super fresh & crisp veggies bursting out of the ends. The Pad Thai had lots of big shrimp and fresh veggies. The order of Garlic String Beans was fresh and savory (and plentiful!). ...And not to forget... the fantastic Scorpion Bowl volcano with the flaming shot of 151 rum with a good balance of juices. All with very pleasant service & at a great price! So lucky to have a hidden gem like Sonos right here off the beaten path in our neighborhood! :) read more

SO GOOD. I've never been to the restaurant itself, I always get take out via Grubhub. The sushi is so well made - I recommend the Dragon Maki roll. What's great about this place too is they actually do really good pad Thai as well. I also love their veggie goyza. Highly recommend! read more

I do my best to not post negative feedback on restaurants. I typically try to resolve any issues I might have directly with a manager, etc before taking to social media. In this case I couldn't help myself. While I have never been huge fan of the front of the house staff (since the turnover in their staff about 6+ months after opening) at Sono I have always found the food to be better than average/very good. Tonight after placing a takeout order I went to pick up my order and was told they would not honor the coupon that was printed online via Valpak. At first they played fun about what Valpak, then said it as good for done in only (which was not indicated anywhere on the coupon) and then finally just shrugged their shoulders at me and said "it's not my decision" despite one of the owners standing 5 feet away behind the sushi bar. Wanted to indicate that I spoke to the owner before I left the restaurant to show him the physical coupon on the Valpak website. He indicated he was aware of it as he designed the coupon. However he was choosing to not honor the web version of the coupon. I would think he should have honored it, or some reduced version of it as the mistake was his and if the coupon is on the website they should honor it until it is taken down. Additionally, when I got home I realized that one of the sushi rolls I ordered was not put in the bag. As I was realizing this my phone rang and it was the restaurant indicating hey had the roll there and hat they would driver it to me. All in all the food itself was quite good. However purely out of spite my family and I will avoid this restaurant at all costs going forward. I can't deal with management that seemingly/in my opinion lacks logic. Too many options for the same food in this area to support someone like this. read more

Beef teriyaki is yummy but I didn't feel the sushi was very fresh for pick-up. Maybe it would be better if eaten in the restaurant.

The sushi here is really good. I ordered shrimp tempera roll and sweet potato roll. Both of them tastes very good. I am also surprised by the fact that their chicken teriyaki comes with rice, salad and miso soup. The sauce that the restaurant gave with the salad is wicked good. Love this place. I order Sono almost every single Sunday. There are several reasons why I religiously order from here. First and foremost, the sushi has always been fresh. I've ordered from here at least 10 times and have rarely been disappointed. I'm a huge fan of the Sono Saki House Special Maki, the Red Dragon Maki, and my absolute favorite the Alaskan maki with asparagus instead of cream cheese (as I find the Philadelphia roll to really be the one that should contain the cream cheese). Secondly, their ability to deliver fresh food at a late hour in a beyond timely manner has really impressed me. At least twice I have ordered from here at 9 o'clock or later. The food came quickly and the quality wasn't compromised even though we ordered so late. Definitely a bonus. Last but not least, they offer a huge variety of both Japanese and Chinese cuisine. The menu is absolutely enormous. Sometimes I want one or the other but most of the time I want a combo of both. If you're going to order apps, you can never go wrong with the money bags, chicken wings or gyoza. If you're ordering a meal, you cannot go wrong with the price, quality and quantity of food you get when ordering the hibachi dinner. My boyfriend always gets the General Gau and has never been disappointed. I accidentally ordered the "vegetarian salmon" one day and I don't really know what I received but I wouldn't recommend ordering that. It may have been some kind of fried tofu shaped like a football. I'm not a vegetarian so clearly that's not my cup of tea. All in all, there are very few things I haven't liked from here. I tried Sono for the first time tonight. I just moved to Belmont from Boston. I love sushi and could eat it every night. Since moving here I have yet to find a Sushi restaurant that has everything. The sushi was delicious, creative and they have a full liquor license. The "Kiss the Fire" maki was fantastic. And, they have Raw Bar. I am definitely coming back. read more

This was the worst sushi and the most bland hibachi that I have ever tasted. I ended up throwing out almost all of it. I ordered the Filet Mignon dinner and the Spicy Salmon roll. The Spicy Salmon roll was bland and tasted like the rice was at least a day old. The Filet Mignon was over-cooked and bland, but had been cooked at such a low temperature that it hadn't even browned! Finally, the fried rice was so off that I couldn't make it to the second fork full. I have never had sushi or hibachi this bad. read more

First time in Boston and went here based on Yelp reviews. I have had a lot of Sushi and thought this place was very tasty. The service was a bit slow and I expected there would be hibachi options as Sono came up in my search for Teppanyaki, but there was only sushi, and some selections for noodles and Katsu dishes. Some in my group had those options and had good things to say. I had the mango lobster roll, and the king crab roll. Both were very good. read more

Solid sushi joint. We have been coming here for years, and everyone is always pleasant and friendly, the fish tastes fresh, the portions are generous, and there is a wide variety of delicious food and drinks. Today i finally tried a delivery order and the food showed up early, the deliveryman was polite, and best of all the fish tasted just as good. Im always hesitant about trying delivery sushi as many times it will show up warm and gross. Good to know that Sono is great for dine in, take out, and delivery. My husband and I have been to Sono at least 10 times in the past few months and have been so impressed by the consistently excellent quality of the food and the friendly service. Last friday night we put our meal in the hands of the sushi chef and he did not disappoint. We began with melt in your mouth Kobe beef and continued with special Toro, yellowtail, and snapper dishes among others. Each was meticulously prepared of the freshest ingredients and beautifully presented not to mention delicious. The chef was happy to discuss the preparation of each dish and to explain the best way to enjoy it. It was a truly memorable meal and we found the cost very reasonable considering the quality. Sometimes it takes a long time to get your food. Once everyone got there food but my sushi still hadn't come and when we reminded the waitress about what I ordered she said that I didn't order it. Sono is a football field's length from our house - we walk over there often when we don't feel like cooking, get home late, or are just in the mood for Sushi or Chinese. We love the variety, mostly ordering maki and sashimi, but also mixing in appetizers such as edamame, spring rolls, and gyozo. The Chinese dishes are good too. We've looked in vain for a Sushi restaurant in the Arlington area that was close to the quality we were used to in the NYC area, and finally we have one in Sono. Unless we venture into Boston we've always been disappointed with what we order, but no more. We've tried a number of maki rolls and settled on a staple of 4 or 5 that we always like, and mix those in with a couple of untested rolls. Astonishingly good sushi. Very happy to have a great place near us. We have eaten here almost every single week since they opened, have yet to had sushi that was anything other than fantastic. I have very high standards about sushi and Sono nails it. fish and rice are at the right temperatures, fish is always of the highest quality and the presentation is always fantastic. They almost always have some seasonal/hard to find fish which is fantastic and they try really hard to get the best quality fish all the time. incredibly creative rolls, had a tuna-mango roll that was to die for. If they have specials, they are usually a good bet for something really interesting on beautifully presented. If you are a sushi snob, like me, and you are looking for a traditional sushi meal, sit at the bar and talk to the chefs. They are always into doing stuff that isn't on the menu... usually I just let the chef just make me piece after piece of whatever nigiri he wants. Haven't really had anything from the kitchen so I can not comment on that other than it usually looks great. The bar has some great drinks on it (saki-tini) and, again, they are always into making things that aren't on the menu. The staff are just now getting into the swing of things. Service was a little bumpy for the first couple of months they were open but they have ironed out all those issues and service is really good now. They are a small restaurant and they have a more casual feel which is hard to find in high quality sushi joints. Haven't done takeout yet since they are so close and we love hanging out there anyway. They do a huge take out business and I watch the sushi chefs put the orders together all the time. Things always look nice and I have never seen anyone having to wait an unreasonable amount of time... and again, I am there a lot. Overall, fantastic little gem in Arlington heights. read more

Where do I start?... 1.) The sushi is fresh and amazingly delicious. The bf and I used to frequent Toraya but have now switched over to Sono. I have to admit the first couple times we weren't all that impressed with Sono and continued with Toraya, but we are now fully 100% committed. Salmon belly and uni are my faves here! 2.) Tom is the master behind the delectable sushi dishes. He picks up fresh fish on a daily/weekly basis. I learned he spent quite a few years in Japan mastering the art of sushi, so he definitely knows what he's doing and he's always explaining the cuts to us. Not to mention, Tom is very genuine and friendly (which more than makes up for the lack of knowledge from some of the staff). 3.) The weekly specials starts on Thursdays. We've discovered the aji mackerel dish and it is absolutely devine...not to be confused with the typical mackerel. 3.) On avg, we come here on a weekly basis and spend between $100-250 each time. That just shows how much we love Tom, his restaurant, and the sushi!!! I wish we could go twice a week without going broke!! We love going in and telling Tom to serve us whatever he wants...it never fails! read more

I had take out from here for the first time and would say it's become an instant favorite. Sushi is good and quite fresh and preparation was very good. Good value too. Prices were just a bit lower than comparable ones in Cambridge or even on Mass Ave in Arlington. Atmosphere was also very nice and the people were super friendly.
