Food was good. Fish fresh. We went with some classics (Sushi Deluxe (x2), Salmon teriyaki for the kid, Spicy tuna rolls), and the quality and freshness of the fish did not disappoint. The Sushi Deluxe order was a mix of joy and disappointment. Every piece of the 7 nigiri on my plate were beautiful, fresh and delicious, but the "stomach filler" plain tuna rolls were neither fresh nor tasty. Please Sono, add a few more pieces of nigiri to your sushi combo options, rather than fill people up with bad tuna rolls/california rolls. The Nigiri really were delightful though. The salmon teriyaki contained a generous 2 good filets of Salmon, which were cooked perfectly. The kid, and mom who stole a few bites, were impressed. When the food is good, I rarely care about much else, but the service really was quite off. The waitress did not know much about the menu selection, seemed confused when we asked for some more detail, was unfamiliar with the drinks list, and we did not receive our water or sake until about 35 minutes later. 2 of 4 dishes arrived first, and the other 2 did not arrive until our friends were more than half way through their meal. Clearly, some service glitches to work out, but the quality of the fish is what counts most in my opinion of a sushi restaurant, so I will give Sono a go again. I ordered delivery for my husband and myself after receiving the menu in the mail. My order consisted of the Hibachi Dinner's - Shrimp $16.95 and Filet Mignon $17.95, each with a salad and fried rice and must say that EVERYTHNING WAS BLAND, especialy the Filet!!!! Also, the portion sizes were horrible, considering the price. The vegetables were cooked to perfection however, as I've previously stated re the portions sizes, were very small in quanity. Do not ever order sushi from here...that is if you actually like sushi. We ordered the spicy combo. It was near impossible to tell the fish apart. It was clearly not fresh and looked like it could have come out a can of Chicken of the Sea. I have never ordered sushi and gotten a roll of rice with what looked like shredded fish. Come here for great authentic Japanese food! Not only is their food delicious but their employees and service is so easy and convenient. And their mini sushi bar is cool, they have rainbow Lights. Just came back. Attentive staff, cool atmosphere (loved the lighting), and fairly standard prices (competitive with the other sushi joints in town). I got the spicy tuna roll (of course), and the snow mountain specialty roll and both were top notch. Help support this place by stopping in and giving them a try. It's definitely in the area's best interest for a quality sushi place to stick around. Definitely on par with Toraya (my favorite place in Arlington) if I'm going based on this first meal. read more

I ordered take-out from Sono Asian. Delivery was sooner than expected (about 35 min, instead of 45-60 predicted). The cheese wontons were similar to crab rangoon and suitably yummy but not greasy at all. The crazy maki were tasty but a little large and fell apart easily. The dynamite maki (spicy cooked scallop and king crabmeat, topped with seared yellowtail, served with yuzu and miso sauce) were delicious, especially the sauce. My fiancé and I are regulars here. We haven't had anything bad yet! The sushi is the freshest I've ever had and the drinks are FABULOUS! I don't know what has happened to this place. We started ordering here 2 years ago when we moved to Arlington and it was great. But in the last few months something has changed. The quality of food has declined and forget delivery. I placed an order this evening at 7:03pm and it's now 8:30pm and it still has yet to arrive. They are located 6 minutes from my home. I heard good things about this place and wanted to try it out...If I could give it no stars, I would. This place might have been good when it first opened but now, NO. The customer service is lacking. I ordered 3 items for take out. Not 10, not 20, not 100. 3 ITEMS. As in, a typical appetizer and 2 entrees...What did I get, you ask? Why, I got a whole, whopping 2 entrees and one of them WAS COMPLETELY THE WRONG ORDER. Did I get my appetizer? I have to say, although it was a while back, I'm just getting around to writing this review. But I haven't ordered again from the restaurant and maybe that's saying something too. The sashimi is fine. Fish is fresh enough, but not special. But the spicy tuna roll is really bad. chopped to oblivion tuna (waste pieces?) mixed with spicy mayo and the tempura flakes right in there - pre-mixed mind you, so they are soggy fat and starch, not crunchy. I went to Sono hoping for good Asian Cuisine. I ordered chicken teriyaki and the chicken was fatty on all sides so I got freaked out. What part of the chicken has fat on both sides? It was stringy and had no flavor. The sushi was tolerable but you can get the same quality at Stop and Shop in Somerville, where they have their own sushi chef. I just don't see how anyone can give it five stars. The shrimp was greasy and the only food that tasted good was the miso soup and salad. Very disappointed. read more

After hearing about Sono a month ago, we finally managed to get out there and give it a try. The Maki were excellent, i generally order three different Maki when first trying a new Sushi restaurant, as i find that it's a good first step before venturing over to the Nigiri and Sashimi sides of the menu. So, as is my custom, i order 1 Spicy Tuna Roll, 1 Unagi Avocado Roll, and 1 Deep Fried Soft Shell Crab roll. All were above average, and certainly worth order again. They all featured an appropriate balance of rice to filling, and all were clearly very fresh. The soft shell crab was a high point, as you can tell when you're eating sub-par or long dead crab, and this was clearly fresh. The Spicy Tuna had the right amount of spicy mayo, and i was very pleased with the overall presentation of the food. We also had Edamame to start our meal, and it was also nice. They opt to salt the water that they cook them in, rather than salting the edamame directly after cooking, which lead to the edamame having a nice saltiness without being overwhelming. We also tried the Plum Sake cocktail, which is effectively Plum Wine mixed with Sake. This was also quite nice. We're going to have to take another trip back to see how the Nigiri and Sashimi are, but for now, they've earned a solid 4 stars. It's wonderful that we now have two excellent Sushi restaurants in Arlington. read more

We had heard good things about this place and were excited to try another restaurant close to home. We arrived pretty early, having come straight from work, and the place was already full. Generally a good sign. We only waited a few minutes for a table, and our waitress took our drink orders shortly thereafter. Drinks in hand, we ordered our dinner, and waited. And waited. And waited. Three sushi rolls took just over an hour to arrive. There being only one waitress for the entire restaurant didn't help matters any. When it finally arrived, the food was OK. It wasn't quite as good as I had hoped based on the recommendations, but it was passable if a little bland. Suckers for punishment, we ordered dessert. Who'd have thought a bowl of ice cream would take thirty minutes to arrive? All told, over two hours in an overly loud restaurant for what should have been a pretty simple meal. I've gotten take out from here at least twice and dined there once. Overall, I'm not impressed. I think it's kind of pricey though the portions are generous. I like the bento box, and their sushi, but some other dishes have been very bland, like the nebayaki udon and shrimp teriyaki. We were delighted to have an Asian food restaurant nearby. The food is OK, but the service is atrocious, A surly waitress with no knowledge of the food who seemed to be doing us a great favor. Since we sort of like the food, we order take out. We will never eat there again, even though the food, while not outstanding, is good in a pinch. Tonight we finally got to try Sono, and My Love went completely silent for the 1/2 hour he spent going through and savoring that hamachi kama! He declared it easily the best he has ever ever had (and it was about twice as big as usual.)He also really enjoyed the sesame spinach and the Spider Maki(minus the cloying sauces.) And while he was devouring the hamachi cooked, I too was smiling in delight w/ the hamachi nigiri. Pristine, silky, all it should be. I was very impressed by the quality of both the fish and the rice at Sono, though the language barrier w/ all the staff except Manager Tom (terrific guy, and very knowledgeable)was a bit frustrating.Prices seemed very reasonable to me. It was very busy on a Thurs night 7PM so I think the word is definitely out. Attractive interior; easy street parking, v. nice selection of sakes. I hope that in the future, they may start serving Yama kake and a trad. version of Age dashi tofu (though i really enjoyed the version they did serve.) Can't wait to return! read more
