A long time customer but I guess I've not yet reviewed! They deserve accolades! A solid 4 for good food and portions plus their attention to healthier Mexican food. Always efficient and friendly, I love their thin, warm chips and salsas more than most places, especially their pico de gallo. Tacos come with beans which I appreciate as it elevates it to a meal for under $7. Yes, sometimes the beans can overtake the meat (usually carnitas for me) but not often. Had an Estrella Jalisco beer which I'd not tried before. Enjoyed it more than a Corona. read more

I love healthy options but I also like flavor. I especially associate Mexican food with lots of grilled maybe even chared veggies. I ordered a fish tavo I literally ate a fork of the inside and was immediately not interested. No flavor. The staff seemed nice though...however the table was incredibly sticky. We were in and out quickly. They had a steady stream of patrons. The strip mall this establishment is in definitely had a look of walkers in and out of the stores. The demographics in the area may yield to an much older population thus a different style of cuisine. read more

The two stars is for the customer service b/c it was good but I got the surf n turf burrito, I ate more tortilla than burrito and this is supposed to be a "SUPER" burrito.. unbelievable. The burrito was wrapped like they just learned how to roll 5min before opening, the burrito came apart eventually and when I opened it I counted about 6 pieces of chopped up shrimp (skimpy) and no steak. If I would've taken the food to go, I would've gotten completely ripped off so they just slapped the missing steak on top of the unraveled burrito. I'm grateful for restaurants that really consider their customers' health. We ate every bite. I recommend getting multiple kinds of salsa as the dishes do need extra flavor. I didn't pick up our order, but if additional limes or cilantro are available, you might consider taking those. We ordered the chimichanga from the Dr. McDougall section. We assumed it wouldn't be fried, but thought it might be air fried or crisped in the oven. It wasn't crispy, so it was basically a burrito. Still good, tho. The beans, rice, lettuce and tomatoes are served on the outside of the main dish, which is a little different. Overall, even though, I'd make things a little different myself, I really enjoyed the food and will definitely be back. read more

Have not been here in a very long time stopped in for a quick small bite to go. Got the crispy chicken taco. Soo good, crispy taco, beans at bottom, then chicken and topped with lettuce, tomato, cheese, and they have salsa options you can ask for. Taco was like 7$. But anyway it was very tasty I really liked it especially with the mild green salsa. I will be back. Service was friendly. And ambiance inside is a large restaurant with tables along the wall. Another restaurant cutting quality : I have always liked this place, for taste and fair prices . Went there last night, ordered crispy beef taco and chili relleno with red sauce, rice and beans. The food came luke warm, the taco was just steamed, not crispy, the plate was cold. I took it back to the cook at the counter. I guess they microwaved the plate, the tortilla of the taco sort of separated into pieces (came apart). The chilli relleno was the only thing I finished. My first time here. The grilled chicken enchilada and chile rellenos Mexican dinner was delicious. I recommend the enchiladas the most. The service was done with a smile by the host and the cooks brought my food out to me at my table with pride in their work. The restaurant has a long dining area which can accommodate a large group of probably 30 towards the rear of the restaurant. The ambiance is that of a typical counter ordering experience and I must say that I saw a very diverse set of customers including some hard working Hispanic members of the community. With over 30 years of service to San Rafael it was a pleasure to support this business. I highly recommend this to everyone. Best giant burritos in the area. I also love the taquitos a la carte (with corn tortilla). I don't particularly love their red rice as a side by itself. I find it a bit hard and flavorless but it compliments the burrito well. Service is always quick and the cashiers are friendly. Place is simple but always clean. We order from here once or twice a month and will probably keep doing it for as long as we live in the area. read more

It takes so long to get food here, and the food is just okay. It's also comparatively more expensive than other (better quality) Mexican food in San Rafael and Marin. But, the location is convenient. Half the time I show up, I have already called in my order. I come at off hours so I don't wait behind the lunch crowd, and still the delay. I do not understand. Also, they need to have online prepay to avoid waiting in line to pay for food you already ordered. I don't order anything elaborate or super custom. Last time I visited, I ordered one regular burrito. When I got there, I was the only person there. After I paid, the staff spent 5 minutes in the back office ... while I waited for someone to come out and cook my food. Maybe I came during a designated break? This has happened before. My wife and I have been very long customers of Sonoma Taco.  The proprietors are almost always there to greet us.  We love their Sizzling Fajitas.  They present you with a plate with the ingredients to construct your own.  There are more than enough ingredients on one plate for us both to make our own.  I make several using the flour tortillas that come with the plate.   My wife makes one with a corn tortilla and then eats the rest of her portion as a salad.  I add spice heat to my fajitas using  various salsas from their behind-the-counter salsa bar.  My wife likes hers mild. read more

I was a Sonoma Taco Shop virgin until today. Can't believe the restaurant has been in TL for 29 years! I got many recommendations and raves from nextdoor, so knew I had to try it! First off the cashier lady is incredibly kind, sweet, and professional. She introduced me to all the offerings, and made special note of the sign that shows they don't use lard or preservatives. I appreciated that, as I'm trying to stay away from all that, and eat healthier. She gave me a sample of their delicious chips and salsa. Omg, the best ever! Light, crispy and flavorful. I ordered the steak enchilada, and really liked it. Plenty big, and included lots of guacamole, sour cream, and Pico de gallo. They do not skimp here, so I was full! The flan was delectable! I'm already dreaming about what I will order my next go around at Sonoma Taco, but I will definitely get the chips and flan! Thank you Sonoma Taco for making me feel welcome! read more

The service here is so good! Super friendly vibe Food is kinda pricey for the portions they give but it's still yummy. The fish tacos were really good and the fish was perfect! Also their green salsa was so good because it's sweet and not spicy. The carne asada was a little to tuff and dry. They do charge for chips and salsa. The cashier gave the guy in front of us chips on the house so kinda sad I didn't get that but she did add rice in the burrito I ordered (not pictured). I have tried countless other taco shops in Marin and SF, and while most other burrito/taco shops offer a watery, out of the bottle, salsa mixture... Sonoma Taco's mild salsa (on the side) is the freshest tasting 'salsa fresca' (chopped tomatoes and onions) I've ever had! I take a few little samples home and have with eggs the next day! read more
