I love this little hole one the wall spot and the family that runs it! They make the best tamales and it's my new spot. Please support them, their family has been running this for over 30 years! Food made with love and heart.

Prices as of 12/21/24. Competitive prices.

First time here today. Love this place! Came here specifically for their masa. They do the whole process of preparing nixtamal and grinding it. Mixing and preparing the masa. So easy to buy and they have options. Also they sell buñuelos de viento. Looking forward to trying more dishes here.

    It was THAT good!

It's getting to that season when the air is brisk and you want a warm wholesome plate of tamales. Pass by this hole in the wall mom-and-pop shop and figured I'd give them a visit. Came in at 1pm and ordered the Beef tamales combination with rice and beans, order only took 5minutes, wow fast! Oh boy them beef tamales were SO GOOD. Moist and juicy beef on the inside and soft and buttery masa on the outside. Mexican rice was soft and fluffy. Beans were creamy and delish. Even their hot salsa was drinkable and the side jalapeno was pickled perfectly with crunch. 5 STARS ALL AROUND! PLATO DELICIOSO!

Delicious pork tamale ;split open to show you inside)

This is not the kind of mom and pop place where you can get a late night craving satisfied. Why? Because they don't stay open thaaaat late! They basically have office hours so you need to get there before dark! I drive by this place on my way to work every day and I didn't think twice about eating here because they never looked open. Second, it's a Mexican restaurant located in such a random place- I just assumed (ass-u-me) that they would wouldn't be any good. Ok now you know how judgmental I am, I'll tell you why I went to get food here ... and I'll tell YOU why you should too! My co worker had tamales that were stuffed! I mean stuffed! And moist, not wet, but not dry like other tamales I've had. So I had to go try. I tried the beef, pork and chicken and I got an adobada (marinated & shredded pork) burrito. All of the tamales were full of flavor and full of contents! The burrito was spicy, tasty and filling. You should eat here because the food is delicious! I've found my new go to Mexican "fast food mom and pop" place to eat at before 5pm.

Not sure why they broke up the beef tamale, but enchilada, rice and beans were excellent

Ayyyy yiii yiiii pobresita! I really really wanted to give 5 stars, but here is my 3 star rating and why. Minus a star for the customer service, this is a very casual/ window ordering shop, where you order and either take the food to go like most of the customers, however there are some tables inside if you choose to eat there. The workers there speak mainly Spanish and it's the kind of place where you have to make yourself known, or you won't know which window to order at and the next customer will just swoop right in front of you. It took a couple of minutes for anyone to acknowledge me and The only other person in the shop was waiting for his food. I get it, I'm not Mexican but a hello would have been proper. Another star gone because... raw tamale. See the photo, no bueno. The food however, DELICIOUS! One of the best in the area period. The enchilada sauce very flavorful with hits of garlic, onion, chile but also very greasy and oily- damp it with a napkin and that should do it. I'm not sure if Sonora has been here for all 30 years of my life but man Ive been missing out. If you've never stopped by (across Michelle Kwan ice rink), do yourself a favor and try authentic no frills Mexican! Just remember to be a lil assertive and you'll be good.

    Dry flautas and super greasy
    Juanita T.

It's a nice spot for Mexican food. But sadly the food it's too lazy prepared. They make the red chilaquiles with the same thick sauce they make the pozole, they taste horrid. The taquitos are dry and super greasy. The pozole is an 8 out of 10. The pan dulce is days old most of the time. It's rare when they have fresh bread. The ladies should be proud of the foods they serve. The food it's just neglected. Not fresh at all. All the salsas are days old. Well, if you decide to go. Make sure to tell them you want fresh food or order something else.

Yummy authentic carnitas burrito w everything.

The restaurant itself was quite packed, get there early to secure a seat or (see if you can) call ahead of time. The price for the burrito was more expensive than typical places which is why I'd rate it 4/5 stars, otherwise 5 star food!

Q) How much is Katrina's Taco Tuesday? A) Aside from chorizo, all tacos are $1.69 (at the time) all day. Arriving just a bit after opening, al pastor & carnitas tacos seemed just the thing to tide me over till dinner. Q) How were they? A) Rodney, I found the tacos were amply filled with meat, and a great deal for $1.69 each. To drink, I also had Katrina's cafe de olla, and found the cinnamon sweet drink pleasing to imbibe in. Q) Rodney, where is Katrina's Mexican Kitchen located? A) Occupying the former location of Tribos Peri Peri, Katrina's is located in the 99 Ranch plaza, on the opposite side, next to Boiling Point. Q) Do you recommend Katrina's Mexican Kitchen? A) Yes, I do, Rodney. Not the cheapest Taco Tuesday in the general area, Katrina's affordable Taco Tuesday serves plump & stuffed tacos in a cozy environment. The staff were quite busy with to-go & dine-in, so many people agree with my assessment. I'd definitely return.

This place is nestled into a small strip mall with a couple other restaurants located in it kind of tucked away not hard to find, but you would miss it pretty easy, it was either the owner and his mom or his wife and they both seem nice. They took the order they made the order and they brought out the order so it looks like a hard-working family. Now onto the food !! My soup was good and I could tell that it was fresh because it took about 20 minutes to make and nobody else was in the restaurant. I appreciate the attention to detail, but for me the broth was just lacking. Something was definitely missing in the flavor department. My 10 year old son ordered the Carne Asada quesadilla and I had a small piece of that, which was actually pretty good as the tortilla was nice and fluffy and very soft. The meat in the quesadilla was also tender and not tough which also helped out Not saying I wouldn't come back to this place and give it another try ,but the soup for me was definitely lacking what I was looking for and I've had better albondigas soup at other places.

So in the meantime we needed a Scooby snack :p The Mexican spot next to Thai bbq was closed for the holiday. So I started calling around because my mom needed her carne asada tacos! Called around and I remember I had Los consomes on my list and they were open YAY. I ordered two carne asada street tacos, a queso birria ,a queso asada taco and chips and salsa. I was raised in Cerritos so I know Artesia very well and made my way over from Thai bbq. Walked in, nice clean little mom and pop. Seems like the guy was the chef and cashier. I didn't realize there was a little bell to let them know you're there so I stood around for a good minute til I pressed it lol. For safety, I'd say they should have something that makes a noise when you first walk in. Anyhow, he came out, rung me up and food was packed and ready. Got home and tore into the bag. The chips definitely tasted made to order. Extremely fresh! The salsa was sooooo good. He asked if I wanted the hot sauce and of course I did. Even my mom indulged and she usually can't do spicy. It was a perfect amount of spice. She said her tacos were the softest, not soggy tacos she ever had. The meat was perfect and plentiful. The queso tacos were simple and delicious. No dried out tortillas here! The Birria was nice and soft. Their meat was perfectly cooked. Not tough or a crazy chew to it. My mom said the chips were addicting. We were full just off our tacos and some chips. I needed a nap LOL. They have a nice straightforward menu. Not a million things, just enough options to keep you interested for multiple visits. Great service from a hardworking family I bet. I can't wait to go back and try their soups, even with this summer heat I wish them much success:)
