The atmosphere was extremely dark -- almost too dark. The restaurant itself is small and narrow, which gives it the feel of a dim alleyway, decorated with colorful Mexican festive banners hanging overhead. Some people may enjoy that style, but for me it felt overly dark and somewhat cramped. The service was okay. Nothing particularly good or bad stood out. As for the food, based on previous reviews, I expected something above average or even excellent. That really was not the case. If you regularly eat authentic Mexican food, the food here is simply okay. It is not bad, but it is also not especially good. I ordered the combination plate with two tacos, one enchilada, rice, and beans. The other person ordered one enchilada, one taco, rice, and beans. Since we eat Mexican food frequently, we have a solid idea of what good Mexican food should taste like. The food here was decent enough to eat, but nothing memorable. One thing I did not appreciate was the pricing structure. The menu combinations appear one way at first, but if you choose a meat other than ground beef, there is an additional charge of one or two dollars depending on the item. The restaurant does disclose this, but only in fine print, so make sure to read carefully before ordering. Overall, I probably would not return because I know what genuinely good Mexican food tastes like. However, if you did not grow up eating Mexican food regularly, you may enjoy this place much more than I did. It may appeal more to people who are less familiar with authentic Mexican cuisine. We have eaten there several times now. The food isn't bad ... but their service is getting worse every time we go. Tonight we had to ask them to refill our water...water! And when they did, they didn't refill the other drinks ... ever! The entire meal service they sat there empty. 6 of us and we asked for mor salsa when the dinners came ... we asked for more salsa because we'd gone through the first two with the chips ... he brought us one small bowl ... for all 6 of us! We spent over $100 (on Mexican food!) and felt like we were begging for service the entire meal. I have to be honest, we go to Mi Burrito because my daughter-in-law grew up going there. Solid tacos and burritos here. Today, I got tacos and mini chimichangas. They have Taco Tuesdays but the promotion doesn't apply if it's also Cinco de Mayo. On a separate occasion, I had their ceviche which comes quite large. Felt like its own meal; but sadly, I didn't really like it. Maybe there was too much of it so it felt forced to finish it. I also would order the wet burrito from here about once a month or so because it's really good and filling. The carne asada wet burrito with no lettuce. Service was decent today, but we had to ask for utensils (for scooping guacamole onto taco) and limes, which I thought should have automatically come with the street tacos. I came her to pick up an order to go and the restaurant was packed and I could tell people were having fun with good vibes. If you order Uber Eats there are a lot of buy 1 get 1 free on tacos, burritos, enchiladas, etc. On to the food...flavorful with a powerful bites, finely chopped up protein and fresh flavors. Not authentic. I normally don't make reviews like this and it sucks that the food doesn't have that authentic flavor you expect from most Mexican establishments. No bay leaves, also the carrots, celery, potatoes and vegetables were firm almost as if they cut them and threw them into the soup. Lastly don't ask for Jamaica it's not made inhouse it's a powdered version tastes awful. Hopefully they revaluate their food and have their workers taste it and give an unbiased opinion my honest advice hire better cooks. I came here when they first opened and have been going back since then. Within the Cerritos area, there aren't many Mexican restaurants, and this is definitely one of the best ones. The food is priced fairly and the portions are very generous. Most importantly, it tastes great! I hate it when places try too hard to "upscale" the food and compromise the traditional flavors of the cuisine; this place makes everything with authenticity. I was charged full dine in portion price $26 ($14 regular salad + $5 for substituting steak that I didn't order + $5 for shrimp that I added); however, my takeout entree serving size was a 1/3 to 1/2 of dine in portion. I asked them did they change the meal portion? They replied their takeout portion is smaller than their dine in portion because they don't carry take out containers to accommodate the large shell. Came here for the first time with my husband for an early dinner date. First impression was that the restaurant was small. It's good for small parties of 4 max. Service was okay, not the best considering they were not that busy, which made me kind of upset. I ordered the wet burrito with shrimp ( half red and half green sauce) and my husband ordered the tacos dorados but it's not called that here- it's more like a crunchy taco, but it was very soggy and it literally fell apart when he picked it up. The waiter saw that and brought him another taco that didn't fall apart, which was nice. I honestly didn't like the burrito I ordered because it's seemed flavorless and the shrimp was way overcooked because it tasted dry even though it was a wet burrito. Special shout out to our waitress, Leslie, who answered all of our questions and took great care to ensure there was no cross contamination with peanuts for my little cousin who has allergies. It's a bit small and intimate inside but they find a way to make it work for both small and big parties. We were there around 6pm as a party of 5. There was a bit of a wait for the food but the complimentary tostada and salsa were bomb and plenty to keep my appetite happy while waiting for the rest of the dishes. I just want to point what a great deal the kid's meals are: I ordered two for my little cousins who each got a quesadilla, fries or bean+cheese, and a drink for just $9! And you can add chicken or asada for $1.50 more. We ordered carne asada fries and I realized there aren't enough fries to make it carne asada fries. I loved the toppings and the meat but it didn't feel balanced because there weren't enough fries! Still a good dish though. You can't really go wrong with anything here. The dry burrito is delicious and meaty as well as the plates! Also love that this is one of the few restuarants that serve orange bang because I loveeee orange bang! Waiting a couple of minutes max and the host came out with additional orders. I asked about mine and it was hot and waiting for me. He had the orders of the other people too, but I think they needed another hand. Maybe a server for the tables and someone got the front? Cause I food not see anyone else helping the seated customers. Regardless, my food was ready. The order: One crunchy shredded beef taco, green chilaquiles with asada, and a chorizo breakfast burrito. They must have changed the cook because this food was delicious! Shredded beef taco had flavor, which is appreciated because some places have dry a$$ shredded beef. This was juicy and flavorful. Green chilaquiles were tasty. Everything was flavorful. The eggs were a little more over cooked than what I requested, but I'd rather have them over than under. And the burrito-man that was deeeelish! My baby daddy finished it in like less than 5 minutes!!! Pretty good size and packed with chorizo. We prefer more chorizo than the other ingredients and this was a perfect balance. We also got tostadas and salsa with the order. Visited recently and I'm not too sure what's going on with Mi Burrito... but they need some humbling. Customers are the reason you're open yet the lack of care being taken with food handling is going down hill and the customer service is hit and miss. When I was last there I asked about the salsa and the hostess spoke in a very snarky tone that was uncalled for! Plus, if you're going to give customers ONLY (1) cup of salsa and charge them for "EXTRA" why not put the amount inside that's being paid for!? THINGS I DON'T APPRECIATE Cont'd: Why are your tostadas not being placed in the paper wraps like you guys use to!? Like, why are they just being tossed in the bag?? This is the 2nd TIME I've ordered and have received my tostadas just tossed in the bag (see photo attached). NOW TO THE SALSA... I understand the costs of things have gone up BUT when someone pays for whatever oz of salsa that's what they should receive. If I'm paying almost $2 for a 4 oz of salsa and you don't even fill it it's like you're cheating me, honestly and that's not okay! The cost of your salsa is not only ridiculous but the fact that you guys have the audacity to put tax onto the already ridiculous price is absurd! AKA Y'all Doing Too Much!! SUGGESTIONS FOR MANAGEMENT/OWNER: - Perhaps having the tax already included in the price for the "extra" salsa!? For example: if it costs .75 cents then it should be .75 cents. Or if the price is $1.50 then let it be $1.50 not almost $2 for a cup that's not even filled. - When your food handlers are bagging orders it would be a nice touch to see the tostadas in some sort of wrapping instead of just having them in the bag uncovered. OVERALL: Took off stars because of the salsa, food handling and poor customer service. If the burritos weren't great I'd give (1) Star because you have to give at least (1) Star to leave a review. Since he drove, I was able to order a drink (or two, how scandalous!!). The service has never been an issue. The restaurant is clean. I prefer sitting where the lights aren't so bright.
