    Barbacoa quesadilla
    Kate M.

Came with a co-worker for a weekday lunch. Haven't been here in years and the menu seemed to have gotten a face lift. I don't remember the food being this good! I got the barbacoa quesadilla- phenomenal. I've never had a quesadilla made with masa flour before. Flavor was exceptional, loved the poblano crema. The refried beans on the side totally slapped- how did they make them taste so good???? Would order again without hesitation. My colleague ordered a burrito with barbacoa. Similarly wonderful things to say. Service was prompt, server was v stylish and gave great context/background on menu with great recommendations. Ambiance was very cool with lots of natural light, plants, and colorful Dia De Los Muertos decor. Will def be back to try other things!

We went for happy hour on a rainy afternoon and our mood instantly brightened when we bit into the yummy empanadas with poblano sauce on the side. Margaritas were cold and tangy for $6. Queso and chips were good too. Very friendly service. We'll be back to sit on the cute patio next time.

One shrimp and one fish taco. So good!

I wanted to try a place I haven't been for lunch with a good friend. I picked Sonora Grill because it sounded good and was about halfway between our two homes. I checked out the menu and it looks intriguing. Got to the restaurant around 11:30, not much of a crowd but it was a Tuesday and still a little early. The staff was extremely friendly and attentive. I had two tacos, one with shrimp and one with fish. The shrimp taco with a light red tempura coating, cilantro aioli and cabbage. Yum! The second taco was fish with beer battered mahi mahi, pico de gallo, chipolte aioli, cilantro and a jalapeno. Also, Yum! The atmosphere is casual and welcoming, it got significantly busier around noon, and it was still easy to talk across the table. I wasn't overly hungry so I just stuck with the two tacos', I will be back to try several of the other items on the menu. Can't wait to bring friends here soon.

The tacos are amazing! I really enjoyed the shrimp one. The beef tacos were good it was dry and the chicken wasnt dry. The dessert was decent. The meat pie is good. Would recommend it again. I went during happy hours and it was a good price. But the food is amazing! Would recommend it. The service was good and the ambiance was nice.

Spoiler - these are my favorite tacos in the twin cities! I told this to the guests I had in town and it lived up to the hype! These aren't your standard tacos. The meat, tortillas and toppings are so good!! If you're kind of picky, I challenge you to eat the tacos "as is" because Sonora really knows what they're doing! I had a carnitas taco with pickled onions and a steak taco with cabbage. Flavorful is the main adjective I'd use! They surprised us with seemingly bottomless chips and salsa when we ordered it, and the cocktails are great! AND THE RICE, get the rice, you're welcome ha. The atmosphere is very cool! I prefer when it's not too busy, which it wasn't on a Saturday at 1! Service is a little slower but they're very friendly. The prices are... Not ideal haha. BUT, they essentially do half off everything during happy hours (weekdays 2-5), so I highly recommend going then!

Sonora Grill is a great spot for Mexican dishes from tacos, empanadas, to seafood and sandwich's. Located off Lake street in the Longfellow area with a a parking lot for convenience. Ambiance 4/5 Its a warm inviting place with note worthy Mexican-inspired décor. Great seating, cute patio with just enough shade for the summer and dimly lit spot at night. Beware of the bees that might come. lol Service 4/5 Always fun servers who answer your questions with good recommendations based off your taste. Food/ Drinks 5/5 Word on the curb is that their homemade empanadas is a must have! I haven't ordered it yet however I will. Updates to follow. Huge fan of their Elotes with cilantro aioli, cheese & Chipotle salsa over coconut milk rice! Elotes $13 | Quesadilla $16 | Brisket Burrito $19 The Sonora $11 Overall 4/5 One of my favorite spots for sure, I need to go more often. I hear the Happy hour is great too!

One of my favorite Latin America restaurants in the cities! Everything here is always delicious and unique and you can't go wrong. There's a huge patio outside for the summer but inside space is a little limited in the winter. So you can expect a small wait sometimes but usually not too bad. Service is pretty average, nothing great but not terrible. Will continue coming back for more!

The service was fast and friendly. A good price and the food was the best! Cute little patio that is dog friendly. The classic margarita was tangy.

Date night dead middle of winter and boy does the food and vibe here help cut the cold. I love Mexican food and am from CA so moving from the west coast has made me chase good Mexican to every part of my new frozen state. Warning it's a different type of (Mexican (and Argentine flavor) here and their sauces represent a blend of Mexican regions and flavors so if you are looking for typical Minnesota queso and chips don't ruin this place. I tried tacos because all Mexican eateries are gauged off meat, bean, tortillas and salsa. I added empanadas as a side and beans and rice which are ordered all a carte. My wife got the brisket potato burrito (sauced) and friends got street corn and more tacos. The food is so good and the flavors make your tongue salivate. Epic chips and salsa, good drinks ... what a find !!! Hats off to the group that owns Sonora , well done

Great tacos!! They had great flavor and a great spice level! The tacos are have a double corn tortilla to help with the structural integrity. The jalapeños and lettuce were very very fresh. Both tacos had pickled red onions and it add an amazing depth to the tacos. Meat was juicy and tender and paired nice with the toppings. The ambiance of the restaurant is great. The interior is so cute and I loved the plants. Walked out on the patio to see if there was seating but there was none but from how it looked the patio area was so so cute. Want to go back and sit outside. Staff was friendly and welcoming. Highly recommend this place!!

We went at night, so the space was not as cute as in the day. Florescent lighting and was very cold because of all the windows everywhere, but I really liked the art on the wall of "make tacos, not walls." I was a little worried when I looked at the menu because there weren't many written vegetarian options (was gonna just get rice and beans), but was able to get a vegetarian quesadilla, so I assume that many of their options can be made veggie, if you ask. Food came out relatively quickly and they brought lots of salsa too, which was perfect because I almost always have to ask for more salsa at most places. The quesadilla was so good. The cheese they used was divine and so melty! Good combo of veggies in it too (peppers and onions and more that I can't remember right now oops). I also got the oreo cheesecake, which was DIVINE. I always forget how much I like cheesecake and this one was tastier than most. I loved the crunchy oreos too to add a little texture. Will definitely be coming again to try different things. I'm fancy, so I wanted something a bit more upscale. I did a little bit of research and wouldn't you know it... Colita came up. So here's how it went! Atmosphere/Appearance: Set south of downtown and a bit west of The Mall of America on Penn Avenue is this gem. There is no private parking lot, but plenty of street parking to leave your fly ride. But once you walk up to the restaurant you can immediately understand the message they're trying to send. Everything looks so modern, straightforward with straight lines, grey colors and light woods. There is a small outdoor section where you can dine if you get lucky enough to land a spot there. Inside carries a very similar style with a little nod to the pueblos and architecture of the southwest. The decor is minimalistic and the "loudest" thing in the room is the live plant wall seated directly behind the bar, which was super cool. Service: I can't remember who took care of us, but we had no issues whatsoever. Food/Drink: I was able to try so many different dishes and drinks here and the list is below... : Xochitl In Love : La Clandestina : Tuna Tostada : Chicken Tinga Tostada : Seared Scallops : Tlayuda : Colita Old Fashioned : Lamb Barbacoa Tacos : Duck Tamal However, my favorite things were the Lamb Barbacoa Tacos, Duck Tamal and Seared Scallops, in that order. The food here is phenomenal, the drinks are excellently crafted and things are served tapas style so you don't get too full off of just one thing! Order a whole bunch of stuff and share with the table! Value: As I mentioned earlier, I wanted upscale and the priced dddooo reflect that. Lol. This is a nice place so be prepared to spend... Like you're downtown somewhere. In conclusion, I loved this place and I will come back over and over. Check this place out the next time you're in the area!
