BIRRIA EGGROLLS- a must order. The avocado moose was amazing...would have liked a little more. COCHINITA TACO-was fine. More citrusy than the expected. NUEVE ROLL-great sushi-must order. Desert was fine--not something we talk about after leaving. The kitchen is Gluten Free and that was our main reason for visiting, but we'll be back. Great atmosphere and the service is was wonderful.

I'm surprised this place didn't have a line out the door on a Friday night because the food and drinks here were top tier. We will be coming back for sure!

I came here with a friend for her birthday since she wanted to try this spot and we had overall a good experience with the vibe, the drinks, and the dessert, but we both thought that the food taste could use improvement, especially when the portion size was so small for the amount of food that was given. The birria eggroll had an appropriate amount of ponzu-consomé which served as a very good sauce for the birria meat. The eggrolls were tasty and offered a great culinary experience. The beet salad had a good amount of beet pieces which was great, and the peanuts along with the jicama on the top offered very good ingredients to go along with the beet pieces. Eating them altogether was great. My friend and I also enjoyed the dessert because it had a mixture of various types of textures from the hard cookie-like bottom to the creamy milky mixture on the top. My friend commented that the meat on the tacos were pretty dry, which per her was disappointing. I tasted the shrimp tempura as well and thought that it was a bit soggy. I also thought the sushi had pretty good salmon on the top, but the overall taste was relatively conventional and had no highlights. Maybe using another sauce at the bottom of the sushi roll can help provide more flavor options if customers choose to dip their rolls into them. In terms of the bibimbap, I thought that the gochujang was way too sweet which overpowered the taste of the entire bowl, probably because it was an agave gochujang per the menu, which I would argue wasn't needed because Korean gochujang has enough sweetness to define the flavor and does not need more. Despite my feedback above, I still appreciated the fusion concept that this restaurant offered, and would still recommend it to people. I don't think I have seen a lot of Mexican and Asian fusion food, so the novelty itself allowed me to be curious enough to enjoy my experience.

This gluten-free girl was in heaven! Everything here is gluten-free and amazing! I have no idea the last time I had shrimp tempura, but, I love the one they had here! Do not sleep on the beet salad! It was an 11/10! The cocktails were great but actually loved the mocktails! We all got tacos and sushi to share. What I really enjoyed was that I could have tempura, I haven't had that in so long! And it was done so well. The space itself is pretty small and worked well for our table of three. I loved all of their fusion food, almost everything on the menu is a little bit of Japanese in Mexican. To be honest, the sleeper and rising star was the beat salad everything about it was amazing, it had a little hot pepper in it too, which was a great kick.

Another day, another restaurant hunt. I checked out Mestiizo for an early dinner, and I have mixed feelings... Let's start with the good: the sushi was good, fresh, and definitely the standout of the night. But everything else wasn't worth the price. The flavors weren't there. Even the drinks (both N/A and regular) missed the mark. They were way too ice-heavy. The space itself is cute and has a great vibe, but overall, it was disappointing. This one's probably a one and done for me.

I had the pleasure of selecting this restaurant for my birthday this year. Free parking on the street, otherwise there are a few lots available. Reservations are recommended, this is a smaller restaurant and they fill up quick. Red is the vibe! Bar is vibrant and the walls blends with the bar colors too. This is Latin fusion and we love it. Server is very attentive and helpful.

Had dinner with a small group of friends and decided to share a bunch of items as the entire menu looked so good! We had the chai thai, Paloma, chasing you, and the marg. It is a very cocktail focused bar and you can tell by how unique and crafty their specialty cocktails are. We all really enjoyed our drinks. Service was quick for how specialty the cocktails and food are! Our server was warm and bubbly. For food, we shared the eggrolls and two of the rolls (minimoto and mexikhana) and we each got a taco. The flavors were great and the presentation was top notch. The bar is stunning - I definitely want to come back and sit at the bar and try more drinks and items off the menu.

    Shrimp, lengua and chicken tacos

Make reservations, and specify you want a booth or you will get the world's tiniest table. I don't understand the need to turn the lights off at 4 pm in winter. Clearly if people are eating at that time of day, they don't want to feel like they're eating in a coal mine by the light of a dodgy candle. For starters we had the chips & salsa and elote. The chips were phenomenal and the mid & spicy salsas had wonderful flavors. The elote was okay, just short on salt (and I would have liked a hint of lime). For mains we had the lengua, shrimp, chicken, and pork belly tacos, the Mexikana roll, and the octopus. The lengua and chicken tacos were meh. The shrimp and pork belly tacos were out of this world!!!! That's all we would order next time for mains. Regarding the lengua taco and the octopus, the meat was cold; very off-putting and if that's the way the chef meant it to be it would be best to indicate that on the menu or have the server warn you so it's not a disappointment to others like it was for us. For drinks, the Midday Field was a delight to the tastebuds and should never leave the menu. They also offered an in-house vermouth shot that was noteworthy and hopefully they will keep offering. The service was great, and we will definitely be back on our next trip to Minneapolis.

I really loved my drinks my favorite was the Ruby Rhapsody, a sangria with so much depth. The mix of red wine, gin, mezcal, blackberry, blood orange, and mole was incredibly flavorful, beautifully balanced, and honestly so cute. Super creative and memorable. For food, I tried the Birria Eggroll (beef, carrots, scallions, avocado mousse, ponzu-consomé). The flavors were good, but the consomé could've used a little more seasoning I'd rate it a 6.9/10. The Tuna Tostada was yummy and fresh with avocado, salsa macha, cilantro, cucumber, radish, and sesame. I also loved the Mexikana Roll snow crab, panela cheese, roasted poblano, spicy aioli, tostada crunch, and microgreen radish so flavorful with great texture. The Neuve Roll was another hit with salmon, shrimp tempura, chili-garlic aioli, cucumber, avocado, and red tobiko. The service was amazing our Server Jared was a rockstar! and the ambience was lively yet moody at the same time, which made the whole experience feel elevated and fun. Definitely a spot I'll be coming back to in NE Minneapolis.

Small spot w/ amazing drinks & food (totally GF kitchen)! Loved the Old Fashioned & Paloma Hatos! Jared made great menu recommendations of items other GF diners say they've enjoyed, especially loved the birra egg roll! Shrimp tempura taco (hard to share) & neuve roll were treats (rarely find GF tempura). Octopus was a stand-out entree (altho' it was a tough decision).

Snagged a spot at the bar on a Saturday night. A great cocktail menu - leans heavily tequila. I loved the Pina Tropical. We also ordered the Minamoto Roll. Both were excellent and paired really well together. The bartender, although incredibly busy, made enough time to make meaningful conversation. Can't wait to come back!

Awesome Asian Latin fusion restaurant in NE. Food was excellent and so was the service. I'm always looking to increase my sushi options and this is going on the list. Started with some chips and salsa. Three very different salsas that each had a unique flavor profile, from creamy to hint of fruit to spicy and smoky. I enjoyed the shrimp tempura taco and the Nueve roll. The taco packed so much flavor and was not dry as I've experienced at other spots. The Mexican kimchi on it worked. The sushi roll was on point, well crafted and super good. I started to order the Suadero taco but the waitress let me know the brisket is actually marinated or cooked in pork juice. I was glad she asked about dietary restrictions and disclosed that info! The signature cocktails are unique and fun and delicious. There's also a solid classic cocktail menu. The place is small but very nice inside. Love the red lit bar and decor. I'll be back to try other awesome sounding dishes. Make a reservation. The place was packed and seems to stay busy. Arriving as a walk in at 5:30pm still was questionable for our chances of being seated for more than an hour. That surprised me but ultimately we were fine. There's a parking lot across the street at PICA open for business customers to park after 6pm. On street parking is available as well but limited.

Another great spot in northeast minneapolis! the bar was such a vibe. our waiter was friendly and upbeat. we had the birria eggroll, cochinita taco, minamoto roll, and mexikana roll. we loved every dish! my favorite cocktail was the paloma hato. my friend also really enjoyed the mocktail "chasing you". would recommend this spot for your next date night!

On a last-minute work trip to Minneapolis, I asked all of my foodie friends where I absolutely had…read moreto make a reservation, and the answer was universal: Vinai. I was able to snag a solo spot at the bar/chef's counter about a week in advance for a 7 pm weekday slot, and I'm so glad I listened. I'd never had Hmong food before coming to Minneapolis. It's plentiful here, but it's quickly become clear to me why Vinai is the "it" spot for a nicer Hmong dinner. The menu is vast and broken down by size of dish, which makes it easy to mix and match. Since I was solo and wanted to try as many things as possible, I opted for several smaller things. Pro tip: sitting at the chef's counter unlocks an additional "secret menu" of daily specials you can only order if you're sitting there. These seem like the best part of the menu, and I'm so grateful my friends pushed me to book the chef's counter specifically. What I ordered: - Severine (gin, vodka, white vermouth, lime leaf): A martini riff with a Hmong twist. Really light but interesting. - Curry rice ball (garlic cream cheese and blue crab in a fried ball): Tasty but nothing that blew me away. I'd skip on a future visit. - Grilled shrimp (3 whole head-on grilled prawns topped with green mango and jicama salad, served with purple sticky rice): This was off the secret menu and was unreal. Light, herbal, fresh. Drool-worthy. - Shrimp-pork toast (prawn mixture on Texas toast with apricot chili): So tasty, punchy flavors. My waitress kindly let me get a half order because I was getting full but really wanted to try this AND the fried rice. - Crabby fried rice (generously topped fried rice with blue crab): Half of this became lunch for the next day. - White rabbit candy ice cream scoop topped with olive oil and sea salt: Perfect end to an indulgent, incredible meal. The food here is insanely flavorful, and it's such a fun vibe; even on a Tuesday night, it filled up pretty quickly! I cannot recommend sitting at the bar more: you get really great service, you get to watch the chefs cook, AND you unlock the secret menu. My waitress was a highlight of the night, super helpful with every ordering decision and even brought me a complimentary half order of the shrimp-pork toast when I was torn between two crowd favorites trying to pick my last item. Truly above and beyond. Genuinely hoping work sends me back to Minneapolis soon, if only to eat here again!

We finally snagged a reservation at a decent time during a weekday after trying (not too hard) in…read morethe past year. We were a group of 4, waited about 5 min for our table to be ready. The hostess was very good - nice, friendly & efficient. The place was bustling on a Thursday evening. It's obviously a hotspot with guests dressed nicer than normal for MN. Not many Asians though, which is always iffy for an Asian restaurant. We had the ff: Grilled Shrimp +Green Mango Salad - this was OK. A regular order came with three shrimp and they added one more shrimp since there was four of us. I have had green mango salad in the small Asian deli, and this seemed very mild compared to those with none of the fishy taste & the green mango wasn't very sour. Hmong Cucumbers - I know the menu said it was spicy but compared to everything else. This was extremely spicy that we had to order some sticky purple rice to be able to eat it. We probably left half of it and didn't take it to go. Fried Catfish - we loved the fried catfish chunks that you put in lettuce to make a wrap. Charred Cabbage - this was a standout winner for our group. It had so many textures and the flavor was amazing. Grilled Fish - seabass stuffed with herbs & lime. This was very good & fresh, very mild tasting as expected. Crabby Fried Rice with pork belly - this rice was good and the pork belly was crispy. I couldn't really taste the crab even if I could see it you also don't really need the pork belly unless you want more protein. Purple Sticky Rice Mama vang sauce - the server told us it was extra spicy today when she brought the sauce out, and she wasn't lying we could barely eat it. I feel like the food didn't really need the extra sauces. Chocolate Lava Cake - I am willing to go back just to eat this cake again. It was that amazing. It had some toffee and a sauce and the ice cream and the lava coming out was just all a perfect combination. We still talk about it. I don't know if spice levels are a thing. We like some spice and everything except for the cucumber was very tasty but nothing really spicy. I wish they had a few more entree options on the menu like ribs and the Hmong sausage that is supposedly in the secret menu. Service was good as expected, but they were very busy and sometimes it was hard to get the attention of the waiter like when we had to ask for the sticky rice. It seems like he was attending to so many tables and really only had time to stop by once. He asked us how everything was barely 5 minutes after we received the food so we really haven't had a chance to eat it. We felt that the place is very loud and we could hardly hear ourselves that even if we were close, we still needed to shout and that just made the whole place even louder. Even a normal conversation bounces off the walls making everything louder. Overall, we were very happy to have finally tried it, and may go back someday, especially for the chocolate lava cake!

We ordered the Crab Benedict and Eggs Florentine. Both had FANTASTIC flavor! Unfortunately, the poached eggs on the crab were practically hard boiled, and my Florentine was a soup. I had to drink the eggs. Not super pleasant. The flavor, as mentioned before, was yummy! Very buttery, with tangy roasted tomatoes. Service was good, and we didn't feel rushed. I rather get a cheesesteak for $16 at Tono's which comes with fresh not burnt fries rather than come back here and get a burger here. It's highly unlikely I will be back here. I honestly feel like the burgers have gone way WAY downhill. The fries here have gotten terrible so I stopped getting the fries a long time ago. They are not soft crisp like they used to be.
