Do yourself a favor and do a Yelp check in to activate 50% off an appetizer. We chose the Queso Fundido. Bubbly cheesy goodness. Served with its own basket of large round tortillas. Hubby enjoyed the Enchiladas with shredded chicken. I loved the Flouta with shredded chicken. The house tortillas are large circles. That's different but still tasty. The red salsa is nice and smoky. This was a nice restaurant for Mexican food. I liked this place so much that I came here once for lunch and later in the week, I came back here for dinner. On Sunday afternoon, for lunch, I ordered the Blackened Shrimp Chilaquiles. While waiting for my food, the waitress came back with my drink as well as tortilla chips with green and red sauce. I was partial to the green which I believe was tomatillo sauce or something. When my entree arrived, I marveled at all that was on my plate. It comes with corn tortillas in a green sauce, Mexican cheese, red pickled onions, sour cream, queso fresco, and the all yummy blackened shrimp on top. All of the flavors just go so well together. It was an explosion of flavor in my mouth. I would definitely recommend getting this plate if you are a shrimp fan. Unfortunately, it was a lot of food and I couldn't finish it. On Thursday evening, I ordered the Pescado Veracruz. The pre-meal chips and sauce was too tempting to resist but I knew that I had to save room for my meal. This dish is a pan-seared white fish with crushed tomato sauce, sliced avocado, capers, green olives, onions, garlic, and red rice. The fish was cooked to perfection although there was probably a little too much breading for me. If you like fish and chips... then think of this as a Mexican take on the classic but one large piece on top of rice and garnished with goodness. It was a fairly sizable portion so I couldn't finish this meal either. If I have a chance to come back here for work or play, I would definitely want to come back to eat here. We came to eat at this spot after finding them on google maps (looking for closest non fast food restaurant). We were in Utah for a soccer league game (MLS NEXT EA League 22-23 Season). We finished out game and wanted to eat before our 7hr drove back to Vegas. The place was not very busy and had a very nice ambiance. The staff was friendly and our waiter was great. I think his name was Anthony. So the host did ask, 'Do ypu mind sitting in the sun? (which was next to the beautiful window seats)....so i dont know what i was thinkng when i said, 'no i don't mind'.... ..so you can .imagine the looks on my husband and 13yo son (who was just out there for the past 3hrs in the sun..lol) my bad... First time at Sonora Grill and we were pleasantly surprised at how large the restaurant was! Servers were very friendly and helpful and the kitchen prepared our food very quickly. The blackened fish tacos are not spicy unless you use the accompanied sauce and the beef enchilada was more flavourful than the chicken. The complimentary chips and salsa were a nice opening touch and the red rice was well cooked. My only draw back were the refried beans. Best Chile Relleno in Utah!!!!!!! I have been to Sonora Grill a few times and they've always been excellent. They have large Sonoran style tortillas for dipping in their house made salsa. I could seriously just spoon both their salsa verde and the smoky red salsa into my mouth. It's that good! Their guacamole is also always fresh and tasty. I have gotten a variety of items including their chicken with the coconut rice, enchiladas, chile verde, and the Chile Rellenos. Everything is lip smackingly delicious, but the Chile Relleno.....ohhhhh the Chile Relleno. Simply amazing! They take a giant pepper (possibly a poblano??) and they scrape that sucker out thoroughly. No seeds my friends. They stuff that pepper FULL of cheese and then egg batter it and deep fry it and smother is in yummy sauce. I know this describes many chile rellenos, but you have to see this to believe it. You can get one or two. I got one, and it was giant and filled me up.....but after eating the one I still wanted two because it was that good. Trust me friends, go find out how yummy a chile relleno can be. I found myself in Ogden, Utah for a few days for work and made it to the Senora Grill twice. The first time I was slightly disappointed as I discovered the fish tacos I wanted were a seasonal item and unfortunately were not available. Ohh well! I was a little disappointed at first, but there were plenty of other options. There is one dish in particular that I would keep coming back for and that is the Cochinita Pibil. This is slow roasted pork marinated in citrus, achiote, chipotle, coconut rice, avocado, pineapple, and cilantro. This is paired perfectly with the corn tortillas that come with it. The pork was roasted perfectly. The flavors from the marinade are perfection. The coconut rice is a nice addition as well. If you find yourself in Ogden, head on over to Senora Grill. The ambience and the service here is great! But it's the food that brought me back. While you're here, have a margarita as well! read more

I am, along with others, giving this review after loving this restaurant for so many years. Unlike most other Mexican restaurants, you now have to pay for chips and salsa. I thought the refill of chips would at least be free since I'm paying. Nope. Have to pay for a refill. Same with sides - many of us like to mix the rice and beans with our meal so getting it on a different plate is annoying, along with paying for rice. I wasn't going to write this review until I read some of the other complaints and noticed that the owner writes the same, generic response to bad reviews. He's worried about feeding the community so making meals cheaper? We're a lot angrier when we are nickel and dimed. Such a horrible business move. read more

I hate to give negative reviews but last night's experience at a previously favorite restaurant was so beyond bad, I have to share. We have been going to Sonora Grill in Ogden for 8+ years and have always loved it. It's our favorite restaurant to grab a bite to eat before a movie at the Megaplex. We haven't been in since they made all of the changes. I have heard the complaints about paying for chips and salsa, paying for beans and rice, menu changes, etc. We knew that going in but figured if the food was still as good, we wouldn't mind paying extra. We ordered two margaritas and chips and salsa right away. The salsa is the same but the chips were awful. They were chewy - not crunchy at all. We told our VERY nice waiter and he replaced the chips. No big deal. I was sad about some of the menu changes and asked if they still had the chicken chimichangas (there were pork ones on the new menu). He said they are now called flautas and are the same thing. Great! I ordered two of them plus red rice and refried beans. My husband ordered the carne asada quesadilla because in the past it was always amazing, brimming with steak, and a good bang for your buck. He also ordered red rice and refried beans. I'll start with my food...the chicken flautas looked exactly the same as the chicken chimichangas (learn your Mexican food terminology Sonora! LOL) but once I cut into one I could tell it wasn't the same. The chicken they use now is the texture of canned chicken. It was cooked to the point of mush. Ok flavor but the texture was yuck. The beans and rice were fine but the portion was VERY small. It was about 1/2 cup of rice and less of that of beans. For $3.95 I expected more. My husband's quesadilla is pictured here. What is missing? Carne asada! The quesadilla was much smaller than it used to be and I'm not kidding when I say there were literally 5 small strips of steak in the entire thing. The piece he's holding had no steak at all. He was pissed. He compared it to "bad cafeteria food." He showed our waiter who agreed that it wasn't ok. He said that he started working there just before all the changes and the quality was so bad now. He said he has to deal with unhappy customers every single shift. He said he could either discount my husband's meal a little or have the kitchen make another. We chose the discount. Overall, the only things we were happy with were our margaritas and the second basket of chips. Everything else was terrible. Before the changes I would give Sonora Grill 5 stars consistently but I'd give last night's food and experience a 2. We will never go back. Sonora Grill read more
