We really enjoyed Sonora. We made a reservation for 7pm, but noticed that many more people were arriving as we were leaving. For appepitizers, we had guacamole and empanadas, which were both wonderful. I had the paella, and my wife had the yellowfin tuna; we both enjoyed our meals, although my wife said the tuna was a little dry. Our friends had the chicken dish and the fish special, which they said they enjoyed. It should be noted that the dishes were representative of dishes prepared in several Latin American countries, so there was variety. We also ordered a nice bottle of red wine from Argentina, which the waiter decanted for us. Some of the wines were a bit pricey, but we ordered one of the less expensive ones, and it was very good. The service was very pleasant, and the waiter was very helpful with recommendations. The ambiance was also vey pleasant. read more

The food here is great! I go here often, and it is definately one of my favorite places to go. The atmosphere in this restaurant is so calming, and the wait staff are so nice! They are constantly making sure that my company and I have enough water and are very patient with us. They are so knowledgeable on what they are selling, plus they have a great bar! A waiter in particular (Antonio I think), is always so nice and charismatic. He always makes our experiences great! My parent were over and we ordered delivery. We ordered over $100 worth of food and it was Super disappointing. Guam wasn't fresh. Seafood in the Paella wasn't fresh. Sauces ordered with the rice bowl was nonexistent even after we asked for extra. Do not recommend ordering from here or going here. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY. We have been here so many times over the years, but we had the WORST experience last weekend. Not only did we wait 20 min for menus as they were out, we had to flag someone down to take our drink order. Our waiter was so nice, but the service was so slow. After seating at 7:30 for our reservation, we still did not have our entrees by 9:20. When we received them, one of the dishes was smaller than an appetizer portion. When we asked to speak to the chef/owner, we were appalled at how rude he was, telling us we should leave and to stop complaining. He was dismissive, condescending, and downright rude. His niece was working as a hostess and it was clear she did not know what she was doing. Please, go somewhere else. read more

The food and front of the house are good but the service ruined the meal. Ordered an app for my daughter's main and told the server it was her dinner. Brought it 15 minutes before the mains. Ordered a second drink before dinner. The server came back after I had finished my meal to say they were out of that beer. 20 minutes to figure out your out of a beer? My water glass sat empty the entire dinner as well. They were only half full with plenty of staff. Completely unacceptable service for an expensive restaurant. The kicker was I thought they recognized their errors because the bill came without any of the drinks. Gave them my credit card, when they brought the bill back said forgot to add the drinks, sorry. This is how bad service ruins a meal. If I was then owner, I would revisit staffing because I can't be the only one this happens too. Might be the reason the restaurant is half full on a Thursday night because the food isn't. read more

This restaurant is a con. White table clothes and crumb sweepers, but a culinary disaster. We were seated in a dimly lit back room behind a party. Stuffy and cramped. I order ceviche, it's three shrimp swimming in salsa. I order paella, the rice is sopping wet from a swamp of cheep refrigerated tomatoes. I order the grilled octopus, it is a rubbery mess. I order the red sangria, the white sangria comes--we keep it, but it's overly sweet and lacking flavor. The sangria is called "mango" but I tasted no mango in it. My father's glass is half full of Pellegrino, the waiter pours water into it. My mother orders vegetarian empanadas, tasted it. in my life I've never had a more bland piece of food. I could go on. If you want to bring a bottle of wine the cork fee is $25. Unmitigated catastrophe of a dining experience. If we had paid a quarter of what we did for what we got it still would have been awful. The one thing that was good was the guac. They make it fresh in front of you. But I really encourage you to skip this place. read more

Came here as a last minute decision and was pleasantly surprised. The food was insanely good and the service was amazing. We ordered a bunch of tapas as appetizers, and for 7 people, we only needed 4 entrées. The guacamole is made table-side and tastes fresh and delicious. The duck quesadillas were delicious, as were the yucca fries, chicken dumplings, salmon crudo and shrimp flatbread. The main courses were all delicious. Would recommend getting the branzino, stuffed chicken, Chilean sea bass and paella! Between 7 people, we finished everything. Save room for dessert! The flan, fondue and cheesecake are all great. I had heard great things about this restaurant, and Im always excited to try something new so upon deciding it was worth the adventure to portchester we hopped in the car to check this palce out for ourselves. Well, this is one of those places that fits the quote perfectly "Don't judge a book by its cover" because honestly if I hadn't have driven twenty minutes for this spot I probably wouldn't have stayed. But I decided to check it out anyways. I walked inside and almost immedietly it was like being transported into an authentic restaurant. The place is simply but authentically decorated with orange stucco walls and all sorts of authentic but not over done decorations. We started at the bar with a margarita and a mojito, both were exceptional. We were seated in the corner seat which automatically made me happy. The guacamole was made right at our table, how fresh! And than we decided to get a couple tapas. All of which were very delicious. The service was great, they made reccomendations on both the drinks and food and steered us in the right direction on everything! They were very attentive without being pushy. We even discussed how they must have amazing management because everyone was very attentive. When you ordered a drink, it was almost immedietly delivered and yet we never felt rushed. The only thing that I had mixed feelings about whats the, dancing that went on in the middle of the restaurant. I thought at first it was very interesting to watch spanish dancing but after a few minutes I was ready to get back to my conversation. But it only lasted about five or ten minutes. Overall I think your biggest problem will be deciding which drinks and meals to order. The menu is very unique and everything is delicious. My reccomendation is to order a couple different plates, its worth tyring more than one or two things! read more

What an excellent way to celebrate a birthday. The bartender expertly crafted a pisco sour so good it brought me back to my time in Chile. The meal that followed was really tasty with fresh blue point oysters accompanied by a delightfully refreshing mango mignonette and churrasco with lobster rice which was the perfect portion size. The food at Sonora is wonderful. Unfortunately getting your servers attention so you can try some of it is nearly impossible. We sat unattended in a half empty dining room for quite a long time before our drink order was taken. Even though we were a party of 9 we were ignored. Once the food came everything was delicious. Typical of the bad service was the fact that the waiter spent quite a bit of time describing a dish which we ordered and were then told was unavailable. Nearly 3 hours from the start of our meal we had finally had our dessert and coffee. While I really enjoyed everything that we were served I'm not sure that this would be my first choice of restaurants in the area to visit again read more

Walked in early Saturday night- with kids and no reservation. While we were waiting for them to set our table, chef came over and started talking to us. (Mets fan!) he was great. Even though not in the menu he made my daughter 'hard' tacos and we happened to mention it was her birthday. Food was delicious and at the end they sent over a birthday dessert for our daughter. I was very disappointed by my experience Saturday night (January 16) at Sonora. I had received emails advertising a "Lobster Special" throught out the MLK weekend. When we asked the waiter about it he said they'd have the special the next night, but it wasn't available on Saturday. He told me we could get a more larger and more expensive lobster dish that was on the menu (bait and switch?). I went home, checked the advertisement, confirmed that I was right and wrote to the restaurant. I haven't heard back from the restaurant with any explanation for what appears to be false advertising. Drinks, guacamole and dessert (flourless chocolate cake) were excellent. Main courses were fine, but nothing special. Service was too efficient - both my wife and I felt rushed. I would gladly give Sonora Grill five stars for the fabulous food and wonderful service. I have deducted one star because on weekends there is live music which is overpowering. Had dinner and unfortunately the fire alarm went off. We were evacuated and had to wait for the fire department. after the all clear we were served food that had clearly been prepared before we left the restaurant. We were not comped anything. I understand it wasn't there fault that the alarm went off but we had to stand in the street in the rain. The food was under seasoned with very little flavor. The guacamole had no zing. Went to Sonora last night with my wife to celebrate my birthday. First time dining there and definitely will not be my last. It was one of my most enjoyable restaurant experiences in many years. Atmosphere was warm and comfortable, noise level was nice and it was packed, food was outstanding, price was fair and the service was impeccable. What else can 1 ask for. As a former restauranteur, I am not easy to impress and Sonora, their staff and Chef Palomino knocked my socks off. Every little detail was addressed. I can't stop thinking about the Paella I had and want it again. The fact that Chef Palomino came to the table to personally wish me a happy birthday and then send out a dessert with a candle is just an example of his incredible service and attention to detail. One of my favorite places in Westchester. Have been coming here for 5 years. Dishes are creative and perfectly prepared every time. Must have the guac prepared at your table with pestle and mortar. Great skirt stake, amazing fish dishes. Specials are definitely worth a try. Or can get a bunch of tapes to share. Went for Hudson Valley Restaurant Week for dinner. The appetizers of lamb and short ribs empanadas were superb. The Rib Eye Steak and Pork Tenderloin were delicous and flavorful. I love to come here for a bite to eat with my boyfriend or girlfriends. The food is good, sometimes it's bland but I don't mind too much. I'd prefer that over it being too salty or greasy. I've gotten a variety of drinks, Apple martini - which was just all Pucker Sour Apple and no vodka. A white sangria, which again was just a bunch of juice, and then I've gotten beer - which is fine. The point of this review is to basically say that the dining experience is fine ... Not great but not bad. BUT!!!! They now have to go food, so My boyfriend & I decided to try it one night. It was horrrrrrrible. All the food was bland, like beyond bland. The guac was loaded with tomatoes and they didn't put jalapeños (we like spicy). My quinoa bowl that i customized had nothing I asked for/ paid for. I added avocado for $2.00 extra and literally got 1 slice of avo. Not even half. Just 1 slice. There was supposed to be a cilantro lime sauce and there was none. And the "spicy pan seared shrimp" was frozen. Literally came frozen. They give 5 pieces. My boyfriends chicken enchiladas were really small & they had decent flavor but it wasn't what we were expecting. Overall - dine in & don't do to go orders. read more

Great experience except for two things. First, the food was excellent! We ordered several small plates guacamole (made table side) was very good and I don't like guacamole lol, we ordered goat cheese croquettes which were amazing and Jamaican jerk chicken - very good as well. Duck quesadilla was fantastic and the apple empanadas very good as well. Service was good - our waitress wasn't always around, however anytime we asked any other staff member for anything it was no problem. The only 2 negatives about our experience was our drink orders were very delayed - we had to ask the status of our drinks both times and then they appeared on an instant. Biggest disappointment was no fan how does a Spanish restaurant not make flan when the picture of a flan was on our certificate the waitress said they no longer make flan - why? I have no idea, but a huge letdown. But yet they have blueberry cobbler and key lime pie - what the heck ‍ Would have been 5 stars, but not having flan... Will we go again? Absolutely, but we will not stay for dessert and after dinner coffee/drinks here. read more

I guess I'd expect that from Taco Bell, but a restaurant? With a "chef"? I've had fine cuisine before. This was not it. No wheelchair accessibility. Were there any redeeming qualities?
