I used yelp to guide me here because there were very good reviews and the food in the pictures looked great, my experience was quite different however. My burrito wasn't small, but not as big as I had expected given the size of the tortilla it was wrapped in. The filling was OK, but not overly flavorful and for the price point definitely lacking. I had the pastor. My partner got two vampiros (tostada) one with chicken and one with carne asada. The size vs the price was disappointing, the meat was very dry and not overly flavorful. Tasty Taqueria! Stopped by here after grabbing a coffee at Builder Coffee after seeing they had breakfast burritos. Walked in right as they were opening at 10 and I got to see the grill master at work setting things up with the charcoal fire. Honestly was a one man wrecking crew as he prepared the meats, sliced veggies, and put out the salsas while making our two burritos. My carne asada steak breakfast burrito was packed with eggs, meat, beans and cheese and I wolfed it down with a side of tasty Chipotle salsa. Great little stop for lunch. Had two delicious asada tacos on corn tortillas. Partner had a caramelo that she enjoyed as well. Along with a Mexican Coke. There is a free salsa bar that had a variety of salsas, an avocado salsa, cabbage, red onions, limes, and peppers. My partner liked the red salsa best, but I was partial to the roasted pepper one that's more brownish and chunky. We both loved the avocado salsa; despite her allergies, my partner gave it a try. There is very limited indoor seating which is part of why I gave only four stars -- the other part being that the menu is limited and there was no cilantro. HOWEVER, what they do have and what we had was delicious. I'd give 4.5 stars if possible. The taste was unmatched. I've lived in AZ my whole life and had tacos across the state; these take the cake. Will be back. The man behind the register was very kind and gave personal opinions on salsa when asked. The ambiance is nice and gives an authentic taco shop experience with the smoky scent of meats cooking and music in Spanish. The space was decently clean and the salsa bar seemed fresh and at the correct temperatures. This is located along 7th street in the Warehouse District. We walked comfortably from a nearby parking lot, midday Saturday. The place did not have other patrons except for us while we were there, but they have plaques of awards won, and the food spoke for itself. There's a single, dark, all-gender but not handicapped-accessible restroom (no grab bars, for instance). Top your tacos from the small salad bar. (Tacos, plural, because who eats only one?) I drive by this place everyday on my way to school and have been dying to try it! We finally stopped in after class one day. They're a cute family owned business kind of on the industrial street of 7th. There's not much else around but they have indoor and outdoor seating. The inside was smaller than I expected. They have a very small menu with street tacos (flour or corn tortillas), burritos, breakfast burritos, and one other thing on the hard shell (do not remember the name) tortas I believe. My friend and I got a burrito and two tacos and then shared. I had both the chicken and beef tacos (the only other meat option is pork). The chicken tacos were better in my opinion. They also only come with the large tortilla and the meat. They have a little bar on the side that has pico, lettuce, multiple salsas and jalapeños. I love that you can put everything on yourself! The burrito we got chicken in and it also has, cheese, beans, and rice. It was super good, a nice size not too big. I will say I got like two bites of sketchy chicken (the cartilage) that I did not enjoy hence the 4 stars. The salsa options are amazing. Definitely will come back! read more

Came to this taco place with husband after a long flight. We ordered street tacos, they told us they are not carrying cilantro(!!) The tacos we got just flavorless dry meat cubes, there was a buffet area where you can add stuff like sauce, pickled onion to your tacos, the wedges of lime looked dried out and used. This little hole in the wall is pumping out amazing food! Menu is on a chalkboard: tacos, vampiros, carmelos, and burros. With each, you pick your meat: asada, chicken, or pastor. The asada is delicious flank steak, chicken had crazy good flavor and juiciness, and the pastor is pork with a kick! I recommend trying out at least one of each: the price is right. The vampiros is a tostada so is like an open faced hard shell taco. The Carmelos is like a quesadilla. I had to get a second Carmelo -- it was that good! Small menu. Small restaurant. Small parking lot. Small employees. Small prices. BIG FLAVOR. The Sonora Taco Shop is not for the faint of heart. Being that I lived in San Diego for a time I'm no stranger to hole-in-the-wall taco shops. The shadier the better in my point of view. I also like the type of street taco that is meat, tortillas and salsa on top with maybe some onion or cilantro which is exactly what Sonora Taco Shop sells. If you are expecting TexMex you will be disappointed as this seemed like an authentic Taqueria. Having said that, my boyfriend and I were in complete disagreement over our opinions of this place. Although I enjoyed it, he did not at all. Perhaps I felt a bit "at home" with that type of place whereas he felt completely out of place. I ordered a Carne asada taco and el pastor vampiro and he ordered three carne asada tacos. The el pastor was so amazing here and the vampiro was so great with the beans, cheese and meat, so this was my favorite. In summary, come here if you don't mind the part of town and want to just pickup tacos to-go. This is not a place to eat in or really hang out. Heard this was the best taco shop in town so I had to check it out! We came on a Tuesday, and unfortunately no taco Tuesday deals. I ordered carne asada tacos and al pastor tacos ($2 each). Sonora taco shop has awards for "best carne asada" so thought this would be the winner... but I surprisingly enjoyed the al pastor way more! Al pastor was very flavorful and juicy and I definitely recommend trying it! The tacos were quite small and 4 tacos did not really fill me up. I would say $2 per taco is expensive for the amount that you get. The tacos come out with just tortilla and meat, but you can fill them with lettuce, cucumber, and salsa from the salsa bar. Side tip: if you come with a big group, you'll have to sit at the long tables outside! Inside seating only has single tables with 2 seats each. read more

My friends and I visited this taco shop on taco Tuesday (even though there are no specials) because we had heard such great things about this place!! I ordered 3 tacos (one of each: chicken, carne asada, and pastor). The chicken and carne asada tacos were pretty standard. My favorite meat option was the pastor. It was a million times more flavorful than the other choices. While there wasn't much sweetness from pineapple, there was some charred flavor, smokiness, and it just made me want more of that meat! I was also able to try the vampiro with pastor (tostada with beans, cheese, and meat) and the burrito with carne asada. The food is great, but one of my favorite things was their salsa bar. They have so many different choices ranging from mild to spicy and everything in between so you can mix and match based on your preferences! If you try this place, the tacos aren't enormous, so you might have to order more than a few if you're hungry like I was! And while this restaurant has won awards for their carne asada, I would definitely give the pastor a try!! read more

This is a little hole in the wall type of spot that you'd totally miss should you not be looking specifically for it. It's right next to an adult shop too, so even more obscure I'd say, unless of course you were wanting to get your naughty purchases before or after! Sonoran tacos just recently closed to make it a tad bigger- there is a bit more seating on the inside and the menu changed although not a whole bunch but they now added beans and a burrito to their menu. Before they only offered tacos, caramelos (quesadilla with meat in it), and vampiros (hard shell flat crispy tortilla with beans cheese meat)! All of which have been delicious. The sizes are fairly small but they definitely fill you up. They have a serve yourself salsa bar there as well and usually have radishes and cucumbers - which I love to lemon up and salt to enjoy before or with my tacos. The pastor is delicious but nothing beats their carne asada. Perfectly seasoned and tender and tasty! My friends and I have deemed it "porn tacos" and usually try to come at least once a month because it's just worth it! read more

Pretty good tacos, you can taste the char since these are "al carbon" which means they are cooked over a fire and not a flat top. I got a carne asada on flour tortilla and a al pastor on corn. The flour tortilla tasted freshly made the corn not as much. I also got a Mexican coke. Total with 50¢ debit charge was just over $7. Not the cheapest pair of tacos I've ever had, but tasty none the less. The place is rather small could probably sit 6 people comfortable inside and another 10 or so outside. I sat alone (again) and a nice white family sat at the bench beside me, they seemed nice but their banal conversation bored me (see why I sit alone now). Great carne asada; and I especially liked the "Vampiro", which is essentially a tostada. The chicken taco and pork "little quesadilla" ("Carmelo") were rather good as well. Very small salsa bar; but what they had was excellent. In total, I really liked the food and the staff were really friendly. On a somewhat unusual note; I had a side of refried beans. They were really more of a refried bean bisque; but hey, they were great. Oddity being; they don't have any spoons ??? That's fine, I just slurped them down and they were great. If the owner/manager is reading this; possibly consider kicking out a few bucks for some plastic spoons ? Separately, note seating and parking are both VERY limited. As in 5-6 cars, maybe 8 if you count the side. There were four 2-top tables inside and one 4-top outside. Several people picked up To-Go items. 5 stars. Very authentic and tasty. As to ambience and parking/seating options; well, hey. You can easily imagine yourself in a small taco shop in Rocky Point back in the day, on some side street.
