OK for an oil change, but avoid repairs (which he does seem to push). Twice the owner recommended additional repairs and I bit. The first was replacing a belt. When I got into the car to drive home the steering wheel shimmy-ed like crazy! I turned back right back in. I don't think he believed me until he did a test drive. They tried to fix it (about 2 hours), but ended up putting the old belt back on. They did comp me on the oil change, which was nice. The second was a brake job on the rear. After the repair the brakes squealed like crazy. Loud - metal on metal screeching. When my husband took it in, the owner said it was supposed to be like that. That work had to be repaired 11,000 miles later. I get my car serviced elsewhere. read more

Fast service, you can see what they are doing to your car, pushy on upgrades but I get it. The owner Steve is not a people person. With that I will go into detail. I really liked Sooper Lube's service on my husband new truck. I went there because I was looking for a new place to get my car serviced, my own client recommended him. I was fine with my experince but Steve was in a pissy mood cause they were busy and he was stressed. Steve was making fun of people who pulled up to the wrong spot for an oil change. I wouldn't have known better either. All Steve's customers around me heard him saying what dumb a** those people were! Um, excuse me, around me those "dumb a** people" are paying your bills! Put a sign up where you want people to pull up to!!! I warned my hubby about the owners deminer, I said he comes off like he has an attitude problem but maybe he was having a bad day. Im all aout second chances. I can take a joke, brush off sarcaism and know when someone is stressed but my husband cannot, so I had to worn him. My hubby did not like Steve's additude. he actually hated his experince. My hubby thought Steve was so rude and condisending to him, Jim asked about the work that my other car needed and Jim felt that Steve was making fun of him for asking. Not good. With the exception of the two or three times that I wasn't able to make it out before they close (I think they typically close at 6:00 on weekdays) this is the ONLY auto shop that I will use. They are friendly, helpful, HONEST, hardworking, and efficient. The lobby is clean, well lit, welcoming, and has lollipops for the kiddies and magazines for both men and women to keep you entertained while you wait. They have a very loyal customer base for a reason. I can't say enough good stuff about Steve and his staff. read more

My story starts in November. I went to Sooper Lube to have my windshield wipers replaced and find out why my third brake light was not working. I was told the third light was corroded. They quoted me a price and suggested I do nothing since the law does not require a third light. At that time I told the woman behind the desk that I needed the 100,000 mile service and my regular mechanic told me I it was too much for them to do. She told me they could do the service. She quoted me a price, told me everything that would be done and confirmed the work could be completed in one day provided I call ahead and schedule an appointment during the week, but not a Monday. Fast forward to January, I called Sooper Lube and talked to Steve. I told him I needed to schedule my 100,000 service. We scheduled for a Tuesday. I dropped off the car Monday night. Tuesday morning Steve called me and started the conversation with "you know, we haven't seen you in a while". He told me they advised me in March 2010 that I had an antifreeze leak. At that time they told me I needed to replace my headgaskets, thermostat and other things to stop the leak. He said they cannot do the 100,000 mile service until they know I do not have a leak. He said my antifreeze overflow is empty and the driver's side of my engine is wet. He also said there is no way they can get the 100,000 mile service completed in one day. Oh and by the way, my third brake light is completely out. I am somewhat in shock at this point. I told Steve that I am sure I had the leak replaced. There is no way I would be driving my car around for three years knowing it had such a major problem. I also told him I take my car for regular service to another mechanic and he never mentioned a leak, plus I have had no warning lights advising me of a leak. I also told him that it was his shop that recommended I not replace the third brake light. Steve again told me there is no way they can do the 100,000 mile service in one day and proceeds to tell me what is involved. I told him I was well aware of what was involved since they told me in November what was involved and the cost and assured me it could be completed in one day. I told Steve not to touch the car, I was coming to get it. When I walked in to the shop, Steve told me they gave the car an oil change and filled my antifreeze. With all the work that was supposed to be done, the oil change should have been the last thing completed. Not sure why this was done first. I again told Steve that I know I fixed the antifreeze leak. He again argued with me that they could not work on the car until they knew the leak was fixed and there was no way they could do the work in one day. I immediately drove the car to my regular mechanic who pressured tested the car for leaks. When I returned home I went through all my mechanic records. I was amazed to find that Sooper Lube fixed the antifreeze leak in March 2010 at a cost of $800. My regular mechanic did find a pin hole size leak in two hoses. He told me the leaks were so small he found it hard to believe my antifreeze overflow was empty. I don't trust Sooper Lube and do not appreciate the way I was treated by Steve. I will never return again - not even to have a windshield wiper replaced. read more

There was no question: I was their last customer of the day, literally. Many places would have balked, groaned, lowered the service doors down intentionally, but not here. Steve and company handled this with their usual business like finesse; courteous and to the point and I was in and out. Been taking my cars here for 10-12 years. They've always been polite, courteous, competent, and have always done their best to get me out as quick as possible. I've had a couple times I've taken it in, and they were very honest with telling me I didn't need to be serviced. The first time, was for an oil change. They very easily could have simply done the oil change and sent me on my way. Instead, after looking at my vehicle, they told me I was good and I didn't need it. They didn't charge me a dime to look at it. They simply thanked me for stopping by and sent me on my way. The second time was when the brake sensor went on. Since I'm a creature of habit, I figured I take it there to see if they could do my brakes. I drive an Audi, and instead of trying to BS me & milk me on a high end brake job they weren't capable of doing. They were very straight forward and honest with the fact that the brakes on an Audi are very complicated, and they simply weren't equipped to do them. Which is VERY refreshing to hear a mechanic say. (BTW... I wound up going someplace else for the brake job and didn't receive the same level of honesty). I would certainly feel comfortable recommending people entrust their cars with them. read more

Let's face it.....MANY mechanics are crooks and swindlers! I don't trust anyone, but Steve (the owner) and his staff have won me over for life. All my oil changes and minor repairs will be here. For example...I had a taillight out and brought it in. As I went up to pay, Steve told me that his tech cracked the lens while screwing it back on. Not only did he comp the light bulb, but put in a new lens a few days later for free. The integrity of Steve and Sooper Lube was won forever because I never would have noticed the crack in the lens. This place should be name should be Super-sloppy.....I had my brake done about one year ago on my Toyota Camry. They replaced all pad and rotors on the front and back for about $600. All was fine until recently heard a squealing on and off sound from my rear brakes. My neighbor who is a mechanic took a look at my brakes and discovered the caliper pins on both sides were super dry and my pad unevenly worn and the rubber boot intact... so the pads we sticking on poorly lubricated pins...Clearly someone did not do what they should have and I had to have my rear brake done all over again with hardly 10,000 miles on them. So they have lost my business and earned this negative review. read more

This place is good for their actual oil changes and work but terrible when it comes to customer service.

When the brakes went out on my precious car I panicked. Luckily I was at work at Oak Brook shopping center and there was a Sears Auto Center in the mall for me to safely pull my car into. After almost three days in that shop they wanted almost $1000 for my repair! A friend recommended Sooper Lube so I had the car towed there. With the tow and the repair it costs more than half of what Sears was asking. Sooper Lube wants to fix the problem not make problems up to get more money like Sears did. And when I came to pick up my car Stevie, who I had only been in contact with over the phone prior, knew it was me before I even introduced myself. He was so friendly and welcoming. He explained everything that was wrong and what was done to remedy the problem. It was a blessing to learn about this location. They also have one in Joliet! I will definitely be bringing my business here from now on. read more

The waiting room is much nicer than most - it's clean, with padded seats, hot coffee, reading material, and even breakfast cookies in a tin! These guys are great! They have the best price in town for oil changes and are super fast. I don't think I have ever been there for more than 15 minutes tops waiting for them to finish my car! service seemed very straight forward and trust worthy - I went in for an oil change, they showed me my air filter and recommended a new one, but not in a pushy way. They also pointed out a bubble in my tire, noting that they don't do tires, but the tire could burst especially in the severe heat, so I should look to replace soon. I was driving by this shop and my service light flashed red and said I needed to turn off the engine immediately! When I pulled into this shop they took me in right away and filled my coolant! We've been taking our cars to Sooper Lube for over 10 years. Steve has excellent customer service, never talks down to me because I'm a woman, and he doesn't cringe when I bring a car full of kids with me. The service is always speedy and thorough. When additional services are recommended, they always explain it and show me why it's recommended. I have never been disappointed with Sooper Lube. In fact, there have been a few times when I had just bought wiper blades for my husband to put on and they were sitting in the front seat. When the service guys see them, they offer to put them on at no charge. Both of our vehicles have been brought in for other services and the work was thorough and within reasonable cost. When the dealership recommended a few services that we couldn't do yet, at the next oil change Steve's guys made the same recommendations so I compared prices and Sooper Lube was 1/2 the price of our dealership! Knowing that we've been satisfied in the past with Sooper Lube, I chose them. (We usually end up having to go back to the dealership a few times after the dealership does work and that has never happened with our cars at Sooper Lube.) This place is a JOKE!!!! Called em on the phone and asked what they charged for a tire plug. He tells me $15. I had my car towed there and the deusch bag and the front desk told me he didn't have a tire machine. Just 45 minutes earlier they said they could plug the tire. Hmmmmm. I'll have to say I'm disappointed. Sooper Lube sold me on the synthetic oil change and did the work quickly and were very professional. However, within a month of the change I noticed that there was oil leaking. I took it to the dealership to see if maybe there was a big problem with my car and they told me that the leak was from the oil filter. What's the point of having an oil change that will last for 6,000 miles if it's going to leak? What a bummer! I had to get another oil change and a new filter. That's not so 'sooper'... read more
