My husband and I enjoyed a delicious lunch here today where we shared a pizza and a pasta dish with glasses of wine. The food was all so fresh and reminded us of flavors from grandma's kitchen. Our server, Amber, was just wonderful and so helpful with any questions or requests we had. Also the complimentary bread was so warm and fresh and our tiramisu we got to go was gone before we even left. It was THAT good! We had a reservation for Valentine's Day and expected a well-organized, special dining experience. What we received was anything but. We waited an excessive amount of time for our food while multiple tables around us were served, ate, and left. When our meals finally arrived, they were cold and not what we had ordered. We had already adjusted our order once because we were told several items were unavailable. We ordered specifically based on what we were told was still in stock -- yet what was delivered to our table was completely different. Dessert was no better. We attempted to order one option and were told it was unavailable. We then ordered the tiramisu for two and were instead served cannolis -- without explanation. Nearly everything listed on the special Valentine's menu was sold out. We had a reservation, so the restaurant knew exactly how many guests to expect. Running out of most featured items on a fixed-price holiday menu shows a lack of preparation. The most frustrating part was the pricing. We were charged $75 per person (plus drinks) for food that was cold, incorrect, and incomplete. Charging premium holiday pricing requires premium execution. That standard was not met. we did receive one free drink for our excessive wait time. She also advised that she would add an additional discount for the fact that they didn't have multiple menu items. However, when we were given our bill, it was for $100 per person. Given our drink was $15 there was no discount and they actually tried to charge us more than what was stated on the menu. Valentine's Day is meant to feel thoughtful and memorable. Unfortunately, this felt disorganized and overpriced for what was delivered. We left disappointed and would not have chosen to dine here had we known this would be the experience. I wanted to love this place I really did.. I know it is new so I write this with understanding that there may still be some kinks being worked out. Sophia's is located in the cute downtown Springfield area that almost automatically gives you a leg up on ambiance due to the old building charm. When you walk in you are greeted by nice old wood floors, the tables and chairs are nice but then as you look up it feels like they haven't quite finished figuring out the decor. It has the potential for a nice date night vibe but it's not quite there yet. The menu has a decent variety of options without having too many choices. When I asked I was told that the gnocchi is house made but the pasta isn't. I'm a sucker for anything made in house so I went with the pesto gnocchi. It was inconsistent sizes which I took as good evidence that it was infact house made unfortunately the inconsistent sizes and/or maybe an over crowed pan meant it was not cooked evenly. The pesto sauce could have been much more flavorfull, by about halfway through my dish I was pretty over it and the few very roughly chopped sun dried tomatoes sprinkled on top didn't do much to help. My husband got the shrimp scampi. Not only was it not super warm, unfortunately the shrimp was overcooked and this dish was also lacking flavor other than the random red pepper flakes that were sprinkled on top that felt out of place. The menu shows two options to purchase bread, a 5 dollar option that doesn't specify what kind other than that it is house made and comes with a couple things on the side and then a 19 dollar focaccia bread with fresh veggies, whipped feta-ricotta and other accompaniments. We didn't order bread but then we were surprised when we received a plate of a half loaf with olive oil and balsamic. Now I'm not one to complain about free bread, however when I asked I was told that this was in fact the house made focaccia... This news left me very thankful that I didn't gamble on the 19 dollar focaccia plate because the only hint that this bread is trying to be passed as focaccia was an oily bottom and a faint dusting of what seemed like dried powdered herbs... Where is the garlic, fresh herbs, chunky salt and the dimpling? Ok that was a lot of negative but here is what was good. The service was incredibly friendly. From what I could tell there was only one front of house staff and one back of house staff but our waters were never empty and we were checked on multiple times even though the restaurant was full. Despite my hesitations I'd love to come back and try a pizza or brunch. I do hope these guys can grow into becoming a great addition to the downtown Springfield area read more

I stopped in to try a new spot, and I was not disappointed! There was only one server for the whole restaurant, but you'd never know it. She was on her game and so sweet (I think her name we Chelsea). I asked about NA drink options and she gave me a lot of choices, and even offered to mix me up anything I wanted. I picked up an order here as a DoorDash driver, and the experience was disappointing. I was running a few minutes behind because I had another delivery to complete first, which is a normal part of how DoorDash routes orders. Instead of being understanding, the manager became upset with me and questioned my professionalism. As a delivery driver, I always do my best to get orders to customers as quickly as possible while following the route assigned to me. Being treated disrespectfully for something outside my control made for a very unpleasant experience. I hope management can learn to communicate more professionally with delivery drivers, since we're all trying to provide good service for the customer. read more

We had a great meal at Sophia's. The shrimp scampi was delicious with lots of shrimp. The chef told us he isn't good at portion sizes and I can attest to all his dishes being supersized! We started with Arancini and bread. Both were great. The cocktails are yummy too. Sophia's Trattoria had their soft opening and they are working out some kinks. That said, they served a delicious pasta dish of el dente linguini with butter and white wine sauce, with shrimp scampi and fresh tomatoes. That dish was absolutely perfect! The pizza we ordered, and shared, was the Pezzonovante pizza, with salami and portobello and cheeses with a red sauce. The crust was nice and crispy without being burned, the amount of toppings was just right. We did not care that much for the Arancini, the fried risotto balls. They were fried properly but they were too bland even with the two different sauces it came with. Like I said, they are working out the kinks and the ordering system did not function well for our table which made it a long wait before we got our food. The two waitresses were very kind and apologized several times, and even comped part of our meal, but it was frustrating to see other tables coming in and being served while we still waited for,our food to arrive. In the end, the great food and especially the pasta made up for the inconvenience of the wait. The restaurant is small with about 8 tables and a small bar. They have a limited but interesting menu, a happy hour from 4-6 during the week, cocktails and wine. I love the trattoria style where you can order multiple things and share with the table, if you want to. The tables are called by the picture that hangs above it. Kind of hilarious since the picture above ours was about a resting bitch face which cracked us up. Plenty of free parking in downtown Springfield. I will surely return. read more

Definitely worth a visit. Gotta be a bit patient as they had one server on a Saturday night. Food was great. I'd suggest anything as most dishes come with same base tomato sauce which was great, a touch on the sweet side, but really flavorful, big portions. Lots of cheese, maybe too much for some people but I'll definitely be back to try something else. Oh BTW, if you read reviews by individuals with only a few reviews and they are all terrible, these people don't have enough patience to realize this is a small business, they are putting out quality food, are brand new and complaining isn't going to get you far. I accidentally came by this place just browsing for place to take my aunt who is visiting from So-Cal for dinner before she leaves. I'm not local to Springfield, so giving this place a try was a gamble....BUT... it was definitely worth it! This place is a gem, and so refreshing. I enjoy finding small, family-owned restaurants that are just genuine, honest and leave you with a warm feeling after having their food. I love their simple presentations because it belies how good their food is! I love their bread plate, and it is just the right serving size. I heartily went thru my Bolognese plate with a smile, and my aunt had their Scampi! The only thing that made me a bit impatient was the wait time... BUT... it was soo worth it! Met the chef and he was gracious and kind! I'll definitely be back here soon with my son and family members so they can try it. You should too! read more

What a disappointment to say the least - My prior reservation placed with your establishment over a month ago for Valentine's day had zero mention of a prefix or even potential prefix, is now suddenly prefix only - 1 week before Vday! You didn't even have the courtesy to reach out, to me or anyone else who planned in advance. This is poor form to say the least and truly an unconscionable level of disregard. I hope after this, you have the courtesy to at least call the other early reservations and let them know you chose to change the format last minute because it is glaringly evident you were going to let me show up with no notice to an unexpected limited menu with a set price. I had a really nice dining experience at this place today. I truly enjoyed the ambiance. I thought it had kind of an old timey vibe. Sinatra and the Rat Pack played on the speakers, funny black and white newspaper headlines in gold frames surrounded the tables, and Christmas nutcrackers stood in the front. I found those things and the warm lighting from the table lamps created a really calming atmosphere. Definitely a nice place to be. I'd like to sit there and read sometime. I had none of the service issues that other reviewers had. Admittedly, we were the only ones in there at that particular time so it was an easy job. Still, our waiter was kind, polite, and good about refilling my water. I was given sufficient time to decide, then my order was taken, and my food arrived promptly. Getting the bill was also prompt and zero hassle. I had the bloody mary and the eggs benedict pizza and they were both delicious. The bloody mary itself was tasty with just the right amount of spice, and the onion, olive, asparagus, and pepper were all delicious as well! I don't normally like olives, but anything high quality is good. I thought the benedict pizza was absolutely fantastic. Perfect portions. I'd never have thought to put hollandaise sauce on a pizza but it genuinely worked. The chef explained to me that they use one kind of flour to make the dough, and another kind to finish it to give it its english muffin-like texture, and it absolutely worked! The prosciutto was good, the hollandaise was good, and the eggs were perfectly cooked. If I had been ordering just a regular eggs benedict I would've wanted my egg yolks to be a little runnier, but they did the right thing for a pizza by cooking them to a nice, solid, but still tender and delicious yolk. Made it very easy to eat by hand. So good. I was also able to trade a slice of my benedict pizza for a slice of the salmon pizza. Also very good. I thought the salmon was tender and flavorful, and the sauce complimented it well. All in all it's a big recommend from me. I did look at the reviews before I decided to go there for my birthday dinner. I figured the reviews were based on experiences of the place as they were just getting started. Our experience was very nice and we enjoyed everything about it. The bread was super tasty and something I will want to go back for. The rest of our meal was very good as well. We were wanting to go to Charred a pizza and when we showed up to them not open we decided to give this place a shot since it was next door. After being seated the waiter immediately tried to take our order, which we weren't ready. Then the man waiter took ten minutes to circle back to us. After ordering drinks, breads, and entrees they took forever to even bring drinks, then bread also took forever, and you can guess entrees took even longer. When food arrived my dinner guest still had no napkin or silverware which the waiter didn't even notice. Not once were we checked in on throughout the whole service. Food was mid. read more

Highly recommend the Caprese Salad and Margherita Pizza. Wine was good. Atmosphere was cozy. The waiter/busboy/cashier did all the work. He was busy. I can only assumed someone had called in sick that evening. Unfortunately our 3 out of 5 pizzas were burnt on the bottom. Zeus Pizza didn't have any flavor due to the lack of pesto. Pezzo Novante Pizza was ok. However the salami tasted rancid. The Oregonian Arugula Salad is spinach leaves. I did not get Arugula. The Caesar Wedge Salad came to our table like a regular salad. It was not a wedge. The Caesar dressing tastes the lack of anchovies. Tiramisu, mascarpone can't be find. Perhaps it was so well blended with the whipped cream, we couldn't taste it. This Tiramisu was not made with lady fingers. The "cake" was soaked and soggy topped with whipped cream/mascarpone. Dust with few cocoa powder on top. That was disappointing. Despite the our experience, my wife and I are going back to give another try. It has the potential to be great. I do wish the bread would be free since it is an "Italian" restaurant and with some Italian themed pictures would be nice. read more

I was excited to see Sophia's come to downtown Springfield. It's a cute, intimate place and the food is great but they are still working out some kinks and learning the restaurant business. They are reading reviews and making adjustments so that is the main reason I am sharing details. We had a reservation but still had to wait and watch/help our server move tables together to host our 5 person party. There was one other couple seated. It took about 15 minutes to have our drink order taken and while our server knew all the wines and beer they had, there was no list for us to look at, only cocktails. I will not order a glass/bottle of wine if I don't know the prices so we ordered one of the two beer choices. We were unable to have another because the keg blew. Maybe it would be better to have cans/bottles. We waited about 30 minutes for our order to be taken but they did bring a nice amount of delicious bread to hold us off. Good food choices but they were out of arancini, which I was really looking forward to and I would suggest a vegetarian option. I know I could have ordered meals without the protein but then I am paying for something I am not eating and I am substituting what's on the menu. Presentation was beautiful and thoughtful. Our table had mussels, clams, shrimp, pizza and gnocchi that we would order again. Just be ready to spend at least 90 minutes. I hope they can work out the service pieces and succeed. Unfortunately, this is not a good restaurant. To begin, in name this is a trattoria but does not serve bread. The napkins are weirdly small, about the size of your hand. The wait staff are inexperienced and disappear when mistakes are made which is particularly strange because this is a very small restaurant and there were at most five tables with customers. In our case, they forgot our entrees and it took approximately one hour for them to bring out the entrees once they realized their mistake. The food was at best mediocre and at worst inedible. The mussels fra diavlo was made with clumps of canned tomatoes and chili flakes which almost ruined what were reasonable quality mussels. The caesar wedge was made with good quality lettuce and dressing that was probably from a bottle. The pesto gnocchi had little if any pesto (we think the kitchen ran out), the gnocchi may have been previously frozen and despite our best efforts, we could not eat this entree. The bolognese, although not as bad as the gnocchi, was bland and we gave up after a few bites. The table next to ours had the shrimp scampi which they thought was poorly prepared and did not think highly of the store bought humus. When we arrived at 6:00, they only had two dessert portions for the evening. This is not an inexpensive restaurant but at any price, this is bad. We were taken advantage of and hopefully others will get the message to avoid this place. read more

After years of working in restaurants, I know it's not easy starting out and waiting tables can be very stressful....however, this restaurant was overly ill prepared for even a "soft opening". Perhaps after improving the quality of food and training their wait staff, it could be worth going to. But as is, be prepared for major "kinks" and marginal food. The wait staff were kind yet lacked any/all skills for their roles - which is not their fault, but the management. Please understand there were 2 wait staff and only 4 to 5 tables with people at any one time. Specifically: we waited 20 minutes for our order to be taken (wait staff stood around in back and avoided monitoring patron's tables the entire time we were present); they served our appetizers and first course (salads) at the same time despite telling us they would bring the appetizer first; they did not come out to ask how our food tasted; we sat with the dirty dishes pushed aside for more than 20 minutes before they came to check on us and when they did, they asked if we wanted anything else, so we reminded them we had not received our entrees. The wait staff was surprised, clearly panicked, then turned to go place the order and we had to call him back to please clear all the dishes from our app and salads. 35 minutes later the entree food was delivered along with some excuse about "confusion in the kitchen". Our pesto dish was cold and looked nothing like the same pesto dish at a nearby table. Food portions were good, and I could look past poorly experienced wait staff if the food was worthy, but unfortunately, every course was extremely disappointing (lacked flavor) and expensive for the quality. BTW, when we left, we heard other patrons outside the restaurant discussing how poor their meals were for the price, so we were not alone in our assessment. Major improvements needed or it will be one more short lived restaurant in that location. Sad. read more
