Turkish food is a lot like Greek food. After all, the two countries are not too far at all on a map, sharing a border in fact. The one thing still confuses me. Why do I have stomach issues with one cuisine while being perfectly fine with the other? I do not have an answer for you. What I do have an answer for is the fact this Turkish restaurant serves up fine cuisine with a beautiful looking restaurant to boot. The menu is extensive, but pricey. I ordered way too much food here, but I have to give a restaurant its due. By just ordering one thing is not fair to the experience. Ordering enough gives me enough to decide whether you should stop by. You should. The meats are light but tasty. The spreads are delicious, albeit getting pita should call more than a crunchy herbed bread. Something felt off the entire time I was eating them. The seafood may be the best I have had anywhere in New York. Succulent shrimp in a nice garlic sauce. This tasted right out of the ocean. The pizza appetizer lacks; I do not recommend getting it even if your life depended on it. When it comes to eating Greek once a week, this is up there, even if this is a largely Turkish restaurant. The deal includes a two-course lunch box where you choose one entree and one appetizer, and it also comes with Turkish rice, Turkish bread, red cabbage, lettuce, plus both white and hot sauce. The price point was great. I ordered the Turkish meatballs as my entree and tzatiki as my appetizer. They told me the order would take 15 minutes. I was actually considering switching to a different entree while ordering, but I'm glad I didn't since it would've taken longer. When I picked up my food, everything was piping hot. We stopped by this Mediterranean restaurant after seeing a Broadway show and it did not disappoint. It was a cute and comfortable setting that looked like a fancy dining room. This is a gem of a restaurant that is conveniently located in Manhattan near public transit, which means there is no excuse not to check out this place. I enjoyed everything, starting with the affordable, but creative and visual, mocktails, such as the blue nectar, at $6, to red beets spread with their soft, yet toasted and seasoned, bread to soak up any sauces on your plate with or without tzatziki or yogurt suaces. I ended with the gigantic entree with iskender kebab (gyro), which serves as least two or more hungry diners. I'd give it five stars had I been given a chance to take the rest of the bowl of beet spread home before they cleared the table given my heart ached that it went to waste instead of being savored at home given how delicious it was to counter the spicy veggie dip and some red sauces. The bus boys were so anxious to clean our plates off the table that I wished they asked before removing some of them =D The service was exceptional where our waiter was responsive, efficient, and accommodating. He was definitely trained well with customer service given the ample refills of water and positive mindset to resolve a misunderstanding for a customer, who changed his order in our table for eight. This was my favorite. Creamy and beautiful. Spicy veggie dip. That was bold and mild spice. Very good. My friends favorite was the red lentil ball (vegan). The flavors and textures amazing. Thankfully, this place doesn't require the whole party to partake in the pre fixe, so we were both able to get what we wanted. For my appetizer, I chose fried calamari, served with creamy, savory tartar sauce. This was delicious, and a generous portion. The breading was perfectly crispy, light, with yummy seasoning. Salmon in Vine Leaves was my main course, and I found this to be uniquely prepared. The salmon was marinated, then chargrilled and wrapped in grape leaves. This came with greens, carrots, cabbage, as well as tomatoes. The salmon was quite tasty, tender, flaky, and full of great flavor. Grape leaves were not my favorite, but seemed to work well with the salmon. The dessert that came with the Pre Fixe menu was Rice Pudding. I also got to try my friend's Pistachio Baklava. I preferred the Baklava, which was irresistibly crunchy, sweet, with plenty of nuts and syrupy honey. The Rice Pudding was cinnamony and cooked to just the right consistency. Service was solid. Our waiter was friendly and on top of it, making sure everything came out in a timely manner. We also stayed until closing time, and were not rushed at all. We also loved how fresh their salads were. But the real surprise came with the İskender. The vibe was still cozy though and it seemed like the other tables were enjoying their food. We started off with the Turkish coffee martinis which were so decadent and delicious (and STRONG!). We then ordered the beet and feta appetizer, followed by the beef over eggplant and sautéed lamb. Both entrees were very rich and flavorful. The free bread was also delicious! The eggplant (not baba ganoush) dish was excellent, the hummus was bland, the grape leaves were home made so i won't bash them but they were full of cinnamon which is unusual and i did not like. The $17 app containing all three meze was quite small. I had to order feta borek to add to it (granted i had not eaten all day) but the borek were soft and not very good. As for food, we ordered a chicken kebab and a falafel and hummus platter and they were delicious. Even my grandmother liked it and she's quite the picky eater. I ordered the two course lunch special with chicken soup as my appetizer because I was so cold. Followed by the Classic Donner Kebob. The flavor was delicious, but the temperature of the kebob could have been a bit warmer. The remainder of the dish was delicious.
