I tried Muna since it's not too far from my job and I was really craving Indian food as its been awhile. I found it while searching for nearby spots to eat at for lunch. I did takeout so I could enjoy it back at work. The lunch special is a great value for the portion size. You get two mains which is a vegetable dish plus a protein like chicken or lamb, and choose between naan or rice. I chose the rice which held up well as it soaked up and went with all the sauces. I thought that it was flavorful, satisfying and hearty. Even though my dish was supposed to be spicy it wasn't. They also offer buffet for lunch. It looked like a solid deal at $19.95 and I'll consider dining in for that another time. read more

Customer service was great, no complaints there. Food on the other hand was ok. It was a buffet and even though that's not my preference, it was priced perfectly during the lunch hour ($19.99) and I wanted options. There were several options and all were standard, but nothing truly overwhelming--I believe the lamb curry was the best as the chicken in the other dishes were dry white meat. The biggest thing I noticed were several people taking their used plates back to the buffet to replenish their food (yuck)! Now, I will say I didn't see anyone use the spoon from the buffet dish to touch their used plate, but still--I think there needs to be some oversight about this. We were served complimentary fried papad with delicious green chutney as starters. We ordered steamed chicken momos, saag paneer (came with rice), dal fry, lamb curry (also came with rice) and garlic / chili garlic naans. The food was hot and cooked to perfection. I've ordered takeout from Muna countless times for lunch and it never disappoints! I usually go for the lunch special, which lets you choose two curries served with either rice or naan. My go to's are the Chicken Tikka Masala and the Chicken Vindaloo --both are rich and creamy. PSA: The Vindaloo is actually really spicy, so be warned--but it's absolutely worth it, if you can't handle it... The naan is OK, though not my favorite. I tried the cheese naan, it was meh... probably wouldn't order it again. I also tried the chili chicken momo; while it wasn't particularly spicy, the filling was tasty and well seasoned. Wow!!!!! I've never reviewed a place I've never step foot into but I have had consistently great DoorDash deliveries at least five different times. First of all the lentil soup?!?? Why is it soooo good? The chicken vindaloo is amazing. Spicy but not crazy. Garlic naan could be slightly more garlicky but still good. Definitely worth the $1.99 DoorDash long distance fee. We'd had Indian food but never Nepalese/Himalayan. What a treat! We loved the momos! So delicious! The complementary papadam was so good they brought us extra! I went to this excellent new Indian restaurant a few days ago. They offer an "All Day Special" similar to Bengali Tiger on the west side but with a whole lot better food for $28.95 or a few bucks extra depending on your add-ons. This place has two floors with the bottom being more bar like and the top looking a bit nicer. The top area has their lunch buffet also though I presume people can sit downstairs as well. The staff was friendly. The All Day Special consists of three courses. It comes with an appetizer, a main, and either a bread or dessert. There wasn't papadum in the beginning but that was fine as we left plenty full. I'll be listing the price of the dish on the main menu (unsure if the portion is the same) but in terms of add-on, the lamb dishes cost $1.95 more, the fish/shrimp dishes cost $2.95 more, and the kulfi is also $2.95 more. My appetizer was the Lamb Samosa ($9.95) listed on the main menu as ground lamb filled in crispy pastry and fried on the main menu. This was outstanding. The lamb was well spiced and the samosa texture had some good softness and crunch. It was plated on top of two chutneys; mint and tamarind which worked well with it. I also tried the Pakora/onion fritters ($7.95) which had a nice light fry. These were also tasty and I would recommend them also even if I preferred the samosa. There was also a choice of veggie or chicken samosa as well as lentil soup. My main dish was the Chili or rather as listed on the menu "Chilli" Salmon ($25.95) listed simply as Spicy Salmon. The sauce as expected was the same as in Gobi/Cauliflower Manchurian which is a moderately spicy sauce with a smoky sweetness. I am happy that the sauce wasn't thickened too much. The salmon was very tender and of good quality. There was also some chopped green bell peppers instead as expected as well for the dish. Tasty as well overall. Another person got the shrimp version of the same dish which were bouncy. I tried the Lamb Curry ($22.95) listed as lamb with home-style masala sauce which was tasty also. The lamb was tender and the sauce was well flavored though not particularly spicy. The dishes came with rice which is a nice surprise as many spots in Midtown unfortunately charge now. They also gave us some Naan on the house which was tasty. Nice and hot and not too much ghee but still with a good texture. For dessert, I went with the Mango Kulfi ($7.95) listed as mango flavored Indian ice cream, almond, and pistachio. My preference is Carrot/Gajar ka halwa but it's not as common but this worked. This was a well flavored version with plenty of nuts mixed into it. Not the best I've had but certainly better than most other spots. I tried the Ras Malai someone ordered (I think this was a buck more also) which was a solid version. There was also a choice of Kheer/rice pudding as well as Gulab Jamun. This is an excellent new Indian spot with a reasonably priced and very well flavored prix fixe. It's not my favorite Indian food in the area but my preferred spot lacks said prix fixe so it's much more expensive (Chola) so it's nice to have a secondary option. Would go back and try more things such as the Nepalese stuff on the menu. Mid 4 for the deal/food. read more

My friend whose a regular here recommended this spot for a last minute dinner - we were both super hungry and had a craving for Indian/Nepali food we did the dinner special which is an app, entree, and side/dessert for $27 which is such a great deal!!! we were immediately greeted with kindness and seated which was great. the music was popin they were playin lofi indian music from one of my favorite bollywood movies! we ordered momos and pani puri to start (off the dinner menu) which was delicious - the momos tasted pretty authentic. i wish the pani puri had chutney inside but we were given side chutney which i added for the dinner special i got chicken samosa, chicken tikka masala, and kheer. the whole course came with a side of rice complimentary which was very nice. all the food was so delicious - i wish the chicken tikka masala was spicier but its a good level to cater to all. i tried some of my friends biryani and it hit all the spice levels and flavors overall very delicious and authentic - would recommend and come back!!! read more

Been coming to NYC for years and stay with family, well this year our family has moved back to the UK and it's just us. So arriving in town I really wanted to get some Indian food for dinner, but try something new. Muna was a 10 minute walk from our hotel, and it being a beautiful night in March it was perfect to walk over. What a lovely find! So lovely and they are very welcoming when you walk-in. Service was excellent and they understood we couldn't have leftovers being in a hotel, and were honest if this or that was large or to be shared. I wish we could have ordered more, so many things on the menu looks worth trying... I hope to come back with more people in tow sometime soon. A work colleague and I dined here on a Friday afternoon around 1pm EST for lunch. We were immediately greeted, seated and were handed the menu. There were lots of selection, however we decided to go with the lunch specials, where we had the option to pick 2 dishes from a selection of vegetarian and/or meat entrees along with rice or naan at a fixed price of $16. Considering it was extremely cold out, we started off with some delicious masala chai tea that eventually hit the spot. I especially enjoyed the chicken tikka masala and saag paneer; this was my first time trying this combination. When our food was served you could actually smelled the rich spices that were irresistible. Our waitress was delightful. Overall this restaurant's atmosphere was chilled with the authentic Indian and Kashmiri/Himalayan traditional presence. It wasn't packed at all on a Saturday night at 8pm so seems like a hole in the wall place despite having great reviews The food was decent but not my favorite Indian restaurant. Mango lassi is very tasty and creamy. The pani of the pani puri sucks though and isn't super flavorful (too much spice no balance). The lentil soup also doesn't have much flavor and has a thick consistency. I ordered lunch while working in the city. It almost felt like destiny because I was craving saag and when I opened the Yelp app, Muna was right in top. I was very excited to try their Momo, Nepali dumplings that they serve with either chicken or lamb. I ordered the ones served in a spicy tomato sauce, and the fried version, with lamb filling. They have a lunch special that includes one or two main dishes, meaning you can get a larger serving of one dish, such as lamb saag, or get smaller servings of two dishes, such as chicken vindaloo AND lamb saag. I chose the latter option. The lunch comes with an appetizer and a side. I chose their naan bread and rice. The food came quickly and packaged with care. For the price, they give a large serving. My container had half lamb sagg, which tasted very good, and half chicken vindaloo, which was not as spicy as I would have liked. Also, I'm not a fan of white meat so it was too dry for me. However, the flavors were really good. They gave a nice serving of basmati rice for my side and the naan bread was huge! It was as big as a roti and perfect for sopping up all the sauciness. The fried lamb Momo are my fave. They serve them with two different types of sauce, both of which have a kick and taste very good. The spicy Momo were ok but I didn't like the tomato sauce that much. It's a thicker sauce than I would like. I think the Momo stand better in their own. read more

This neighborhood Indian restaurant transported me to Nepal in the best way. Their signature momo's, pani puri and paneer tikka was full of flavor and authenticity. The momos were very good - just the right amount of chew to the wrapper and a nice filling, in a spicy and tangy sauce. Its spice level is not for the faint of heart, but I enjoyed the heat. Muna is my favorite restaurant in the curry hill. When they first opened up around my job last year, I tried them on a whim. I remember when I came into the store, it was empty and they had just had their grand opening recently. While I waited for my takeout order, I struck up conversation with the owner. Super nice guy- very humble and approachable. He told me about his other restaurant Semma and how he started in the business by waiting tables. While I waited he gave me complimentary bread. I told him I never tried Himalayan/ Nepalese food before. He recommended that I order the momos. So I ordered a side of momos with my chicken korma. Their chicken korma is the best I've ever had. It's creamy nutty and so flavorful. I've had a lot of Indian food but theirs is the best for that dish specifically. The momos are really good too (though I have nothing to compare it to). A year later, I still think their food is amazing. I don't work nearby anymore but highly recommend if you live or work in the area. The food is a good portion too and nearly packed. I haven't eaten there for dine in before. It's not really trendy or anything. It's a pretty quiet restaurant. But they definitely deserve more attention. read more

I ordered a mango lassi, chilly momos, malai kofta, chicken korma and garlic naan for delivery from Muna last night. The lassi was quite thin in consistency, but decently flavorful. It was a nice pairing with the spicy momos. The chicken korma was slightly under-salted, but the meat itself was quite tender and moist. The naan was mediocre at best, I would not order this again. The garlic seasoning was minimal. My biggest issue, however, was with the malai kofta. The gravy was delicious and the kofta seemed to hold their shape well, but I found a large piece of eggshell in the kofta (see picture). Not only is this a choking hazard, but I'm confused how an egg shell got into a dish that typically uses no eggs at all. I was looking forward to this meal given all the glowing reviews on here, but I doubt I'll be giving them another chance. Nothing like finding a a foreign object in your food to put off your appetite. read more

(One of our group got up to fill his own water glass but after that, did not have to.) We came in for the buffet with big expectations after seeing the high ratings but it was merely adequate. Perhaps because we arrived at 2 pm, several trays were depleted such as the tandoori grilled meats and the vegetable samosas. There was no offering of any type of naan.
