We dined at Sophusion on June 25th. The decor was pleasant. The service was good, and our server was amiable, but improvements are needed. I wanted the Soy Glaze Tofu, but it contained soy sauce, and since they did not offer gluten-free pasta, I chose the veggie plate and added tofu. I suggest carrying a bottle of gluten-free soy sauce and gluten-free pasta. This enables you to make several dishes gluten-free when they would otherwise be if it weren't for the soy sauce. My partner had the NY Strip Steak and the Caesar salad - both were decent but could have been better. Also, there is no air conditioning in the building. Went here last night for dinner. The salmon was ok over cooked in my opinion, they charged extra for a veggie side, it comes with mash potatoes but they didn't give me any. And all for $50, I'm sorry but they doing too much. Nobody charges that much for one piece of fish and spinach. I will give them another chance with brunch. The very first time the Fabulous five walked in: we were greeted by one of the owners, the decor is absolutely gorgeous and the neo soul/jazzy vibe is all of that! We wanted to taste everything on the menu. The portion size is more than enough (I took a take out box) and the plate display was artistic Everythin, I mean everything satis our taste buds. Congratulations to owner. I was super excited to dine here but was semi disappointed. My we ordered the oxtail dumplings and they were flat and burned. For the cost I expected more. The lobster mac n cheese was good but I'd prefer traditional elbow noodles. There were 2 pieces small pieces of lobster should incorporate more. The fried fish is definitely a repeater. My husband enjoyed his braised beef just wanted more, the ratios were off. I'm definitely going back to support but I'm not as in love as I wanted to be. Got off the plane. Took taxi to this restaurant for brunch. Hours states they opened at 9 AM on Sunday. My husband arrived at 10 AM with luggage. We saw employees folding napkins, but no acknowledgment of us even after we knocked. Disappointing. read more

I was excited to experience Sophusion, the new restaurant in Lansdowne, PA. My small town has been a great place to live and to have a new place with finer food got me excited. Unfortunately, the restaurant fell short of my expectations. My visit to the restaurant included four other family members. We were seated in the second dining room. That dining room is not as decorative as the first dining room. It still had some attractive elements but looked unfinished. There was a large floor fan running in the room and music that made it difficult for us to hear each other when talking. I thought the host and our waiter were good. Both were cheerful and engaging. We ordered four appetizers. Two of them came to our table first. We waited for more than 20 minutes for the other two appetizers. It may have taken longer if one of the staff did not inquire about how things were going. In addition to the delay of the appetizers, it took about an hour to receive the entrees after we placed our orders. For my appetizer, I ordered the sweet chili calamari which had good flavor, but I believe was cooked too long which made it a little chewy. One of my daughters had the oxtail dumpling, which she deemed to be good. My other daughter got the mussels. She thought they were okay. She most liked the broth they were in. We shared an order of coconut shrimp. The shrimp was cooked well and tasted good, but there was a very slight hint of coconut which left us wondering why it had the coconut description. For my entree, I requested lamb chops. I ordered them to be cooked medium and they came out as I expected. My daughter also ordered the lamb, but she wanted her lamb to be cooked medium well. She thought her lamb was too pink inside and looked the same as mine. We both agreed that the lamb lacked season and flavor. Two people ordered the Cajun alfredo. I believed the dish had about five grilled shrimp that sat on pasta noodles in a creamy alfredo sauce. Neither of them was fond of the pasta in the sauce. Also, there were inconsistencies in the dishes. One had much more sauce than the other. The last family member ordered the shrimp risotto. After taking a few bites, she described it as only shrimp on yellow rice. She said it lacked the sophisticated creamy texture and taste of risotto. We order three sides. One we found out later was unavailable. Another they never brought to the table. The side dish that was brought to the table was grilled asparagus. They were very thin and overcooked which made them limp. Also, we thought they were not seasoned well. A measure of a fine restaurant for me is a restaurant that prepares and presents food that is exceptional while providing great service through the duration of my time at the restaurant. I expect a fine restaurant to have delicious and sophisticated dishes or common dishes that are elevated and exceeds my homegrown culinary skills. It should be a restaurant, that after leaving, I cannot wait to come back to experience more even if it is rare because of the high price of the food. I was optimistic about the restaurant. I was looking forward to telling my family and friends about a wonderful new restaurant in my town. I let them know of my, then, pending visit and the forthcoming full report. We had a sister date for 1 pm this afternoon, we had to wait about 20 minutes for our table, it was not a sense of urgency for our table to be prepared. We were seated and no one approach our table until we requested water for thet table. The staff needs training, they tried their best, but they needed to be manage, I could not tell if a manager was present in the restaurant today. Our food came out at separate times and my sister and I ordered the same dish (seafood mac&cheese) the presentation of the items made us asked what was the other dish, one was served in a cast iron skillet and the other in a white dish, they tasted totally different and looked like we did not order the same thing. They added on 20% gratuity to our bill, I did felt that this was such a dishearten way to spend our monthly sisterly afternoon. Atmosphere nice! Started with hair in my drink I ordered the lamb well done and it came out under cooked after finishing my undercooked lamb notices another piece of hair in my plate. This is a relatively new restaurant on a strip that does not have much walking traffic. Several predecessors have occupied this space without much success. Some were good and some not so much. My wife and mother in law treated me to dinner here for my birthday. I reviewed prior comments especially the critical ones about atmosphere (music) and service (slow). The reviews were consistently good on the food. I must say that the food continued to be excellent and I found no problem with the prior complaints. Service was on time and the atmosphere was great. I was happy to see five other parties enjoying their meals and conversing. My advice is that if you are in the suburb of Lansdowne, please visit the restaurant. You won't be disappointed. Hopefully with the opening of the Lansdowne theatre there will be more foot traffic and this needed restaurant will succeed. read more

The one star is me being nice. Let's start with the service because surprisingly that was the least of my problem. The waitress seem new and I understand that I'm okay with that. But everything was so slow it took 15 mins for her to even come over to get our drink order. But I was understanding of all this because they are a new place. The restaurant look nice however there was a mildew stench when I walked in which I wasn't really feeling but still wanted to give the place a chance. So we order all our food at once so that we can try to get it at a reasonable time. We order mock tails because the place is byob which I wasn't aware of but most byob places I have gone to still serve alcohol along with byob service. We both order these passionate fruit tropical drinks which were actually good, but would have been better with some tequila! My friend had the oxtail dumplings, crab fried rice and sautéed spinach. I had the shrimp risotto, truffle fries, and sautéed spinach. I wanted oysters but they didn't have any. So our mock tails came out about 15 mins later. It would have been 10mins but they sent our drinks to the wrong table and we saw this so they took them to the back waited 5 mins and then brought them back out. It took about 20 mins for my friend to get her dumplings. I tried one, they were good but after my friend bit into the second one she hit a bone that almost chipped her tooth! So she was done with the dumplings! Another 20 mins later the "main courses" comes . The risotto was clearly cooked by someone who doesn't know how to cook risotto because it was terrible! It had no flavor at all, so bland, and had a weird fishy aftertaste that did not sit well. The shrimp was tasty but I was completely turned off by the taste of the risotto. Next the truffle fries, BLAND! Barley taste the truffle and there was no salt.. and finally the "sautéed spinach"! It wasn't sautéed AT ALL! More like steamed or boiled and of course it was BLAND just like the rest of the food! So after I shook all the salt in it to give it some flavor, I started to kind of like it! My friend was enjoying her crab fried rice so I was willing to nibble on the spinach until she was done because I was ready to go! But then I looked down at my spinach and notice something not quite right! There was a bug in my spinach! After that I was done! We didn't have to pay for our meal rightfully so! I will NEVER go back to place again. I will never feel comfortable being here again even if they turned it around! Worst restaurant experience I have ever had! read more
