I hosted 30 guests at Sorella Hartford yesterday for a surprise 50th birthday party and I can't say enough good things about the experience! From the minute I sent them an inquiry, they were a pleasure to interact with. Their private event prices are very competitive with other downtown Hartford restaurants. The private room is beautiful. It was fully taken up by a long dining table, so mingling was a little challenging, but we all just swapped around to different seats between courses and it worked out fine. Our guests are still talking about how delicious the food was. Paulie served us for the event and he was absolutely top notch - kept our glasses filled, remembered everyone's drink orders, accommodated a last minute dietary need without a hitch, and was funny on top of it all! It's a great spot in downtown Hartford. We had a little pasta party here a couple of weeks ago. Here's a few of the dishes that we tried- Linguini with Clams- Littleneck clam, Calabrian chili, garlic, white wine, lemon and parsley Black Linguini- Soppressata, gulf shrimp, jalapeno pesto, cream, and squid ink linguini Orecchiette- Hot sausage, broccoli rabe, Calabrian chili, arrabiata and Pecorino Chicken Parmigiano- Breaded cutlet, marinara, fresh Mozzarella and linguini The Black Linguini was my favorite out of all of them The were all delicious- but that one stood out to me. The appearance and the taste. I really liked the jalapeno pesto. We also tried a few apps- the octopus and the calamari. Of those two, the calamari was my fav. Our server kindly brought us out some bread that we used for dipping. I thinks that's a nice touch. In the past, I have had their pizza and it was good too! They also have great outdoor seating. I'm happy to see Sorella on the end of Pratt Street. I wish Pratt Street would fill up with places to eat in general. It's a cool street with cobblestones and would make for a super fun destination in Hartford if it were more populated. read more

My family and I were on the hunt for a quick bite to eat in the Hartford area before the Greater Hartford Jazz Festival and stumbled across this establishment. This was not only my first time in Hartford, but also my first time at Sorella! Upon entrance, there is outdoor and indoor seating. My party decided to sit indoors since it's too warm outside. We were seated almost immediately and greeted by our friendly waitress. We ordered the Caesar Salad, Margherita Pizza, Il Diavolo Pizza, the Puttanesca Pasta, the Ravioli Cacio e Pepe, and the Orecchiette with Broccoli Rabe and Sausage. There was so much wonderful food to enjoy! However, a few things I must mention though to future restaurant on goers. My mom ordered seltzer and wasn't understood by our waitress who refers to this as club soda. Another critique about my dish: Ravioli Cacio e Pepe. This is my absolute favorite pasta dish and it wasn't the best Cacio e Pepe. The sauce was a bit salty and the ravioli pasta was unique, but not authentic. I even asked to substitute the ravioli for spaghetti pasta and was told by the waitress that the chef wasn't taking any more substitutions tonight with many orders, but the restaurant wasn't crowded inside or outside. Overall, I enjoyed the pizza more than I did with my pasta entree! Just some food for thought. I would still recommend visiting Sorella when in Hartford! read more

I finally made it to Sorella in hartford. What a great spot with home like environment full of great helpful staff. Not over crowded with staff (I seen 3-4 staff) and they got this place handled really well. Super friendly and super tasty food. Penne ala vodka was my favorite, creamy and full of chicken. We hadn't been back to Sorella for so long and found it again after seeing a great production of 'Lost in Yonkers' at Hartford Stage. Started to walk to Pratt Street to see what was open and walked into Sorella and greeted by the convivial hostess. After finding a table out of a draft we proceeded to order the Figgy Piggy Pizza for an appetizer [we were hungry] and found it amazingly fresh and delicious, the fresh baby figs lightening up the tangy prosciutto. The pour of Vermentino was super. The entrée was a Veal Saltimbocca over Rotini which is now in my refrigerator waiting to be served tomorrow as the pizza really filled us up but not so much as to avoid dessert. The Warm Olive Oil Cake with Lemon Curd and a good cup of coffee ended up this memorable meal. read more

I'm going to see my very first Cirque Du Soleil show tonight (the date of this review) so my family and I wanted to grab a bite to eat first at a place that had happy hour so here we are. Here's how it went! Atmosphere/Appearance: This restaurant rose from the ashes (not literally) from the old Bear's Smokehouse. If you've ever been to someone's house who lives underground, that's what this place reminded me of. Lol. Every doorway and ceiling support was arched and the décor was minimal (spacious). I liked the simplicity of it all. It was about 5:00pm so happy hour was going, but the restaurant was empty. It was peaceful, but the closer to 6:00pm it got, the louder and more full it became. We were sat in the corner right by a big window so we could do some people-watching, which is always fun. Service: Mary Jane took great care of us. She was quick and made sure we had everything that we needed for the couple of hours we were there. Food: Here for happy hour so I fancied the drinks... and the wings. So there's only 1 flavor of wings and they're fried then tossed in roasted garlic butter along with pecorino romano cheese. It was pretty decent, so decent I had a 2nd order. I didn't want to get too stuffed for the long walk we had to the Cirque Du Soleil tent. The wings were pretty good! They weren't something I'd seek out when I have a craving, but they are totally good enough for me to have here in case we hit this place up for happy hour again. They were basically "garlic parmesan", but Sorella's version. Not bad. Value: My house red blend wine was $4.50 a glass so that's pretty decent considering a lot of places server them at $6.00 or even $7.00. My wings were $6.00 for 6 pieces, which is a pretty good deal seeing as this is Connecticut. Lol. You won't have to break the bank here. In conclusion, yeah, I'd come here again. Sure. The website had a menu uploaded on the page and featured Wood Oven Chicken Wings. When we called, the woman was: rude, short, curt and inpatient. . THAT ISNT IT!! "NO, YOURE NOT LOOKING AT THE RIGHT MENU" "NO! TRUST ME! YOU ARE NOT ON THE RIGHT WEBPAGE!" "NO I KNOW YOU ARE NOT LOOKING AT THE RIGHT PAGE"! No one cursed at her, but who is going to buy food from someone who is giving attitude on the phone when all you had to say was these are no longer available. Instead of telling the potential customer that they might be wrong, try this Sorella instead of covering for unprofessionalism and rude behavior: I'm sorry. That item is not on our menu anymore. And instead of stating that you cannot take this information down from the website, try reaching out to a capable web designer or IT person to take down conflicting information. And as far as sticking up for your unprofessional staff, how about I tell my job and fellow staff members not to frequent your establishment. Seeing that your score, 3.8, is much lower than Salute or even Pietros. Be thankful you're still viable after Covid. And maybe Capital Community College needs to know not to frequent this establishment since you cannot stand up for your integrity. The only things I would mention is that they were out of a few items on the menu and I ordered the chicken parmigiana and the sauce was a bit sweet. Everyone in my party (including myself) loved their meal, so I doubt you could order something off the menu that isn't fantastic! Tried it out for the first time and paired it with a night st hartford stage. Soooooo... first a really easy walk from the hartford stage parking garage which was great ! Liked the grapefruit martini , strong and delicious. Cute little place with great ambiance, and cool wood fire stove in the back . Calamari was a little bit greasy, bit overall very good. Pizza was on point with a really great crust. My friend loved her pumpkin and ricotta ravioli. And the dessert , chocolate moose was decadent and excellent. Arrived in Hartford late and a lot of downtown is closed on a Friday night at 9:45, but the kitchen was still open here and we were one of 2 active tables. All the food came out hot... very hot so give it a sec to cool. Mozzarella sticks were super tasty, loved the consistency. Had a couple of pizzas (bar sized pies... red sauce with pepperoni and a Wiseguy - San Marzano tomato, mozzarella, hot sausage, roasted mushrooms) and they were very average in flavor, super soggy crust in the middle (that couldn't support any toppings) along with a very crispy outer crust. Also tried a Buffalo chicken sandwich that was average in flavor too but the fires were really good. What bumps this from a 3 to a 4 star review was the service. They have a great selection of meats and cheeses. The place is very cute, and the staff that greeted me was very friendly. We got the crispy Brussel sprouts which were perfectly charred. I got the Cacio e Pepe ravioli which tasted homemade. Ordered the Cauliflower and Eggplant, both were served extremely briny and peppered and was essentially inedible The pizza is a 3/10 at best, it's flat and the sauce looks like it's melted on. Reading the reviews I really wanted to love this place but must say the service need some work. We sat a the bar for almost 20 minutes before we were given a menu and asked what we were drinking. I would have to come back and sit at the dining room and see if is different. We shared the antipasto and it was good. Went to Sorella before watching a show at Hartford Stages. I had only been here once before for lunch and absolutely loved it. We sat at the bar which is quite vibrant and the bartender was quite lovely giving menu suggestions. They have a great red wine list. I had the Justin and Josh. The reason we selected this restaurant was because of their variety of salads. The food, however, was a bit lackluster. My salad was a bit soggy and the grilled chicken was overcooked. The portions were very small. My date had the angel hair boldness. It was better than my salad. He liked that the meat wasn't fatty. It wasn't bad, just nothing special. We came after experiencing bad service and long waits down the street. Immediately we were greeted and the attentive nature of the staff continued throughout the night. The staff were very observant, refilling drinks multiple times and refreshing plates and silverware. The food was outstanding: we got three pastas and two pizzas. Other reviews note long waits, but that was not our experience. The cannoli is very good. The appetizers we got a trio of small plates: the beets, the burata, and the prosciutto. I finally went to Sorella after hearing so many of my friends mention about how good it is, but honestly I did not enjoy the food. Went there on a Sunday for dinner, the restaurant was not crowded and we got seated immediately. The ambience is fairly neat and simple. The menu is decent sized with not a lot of options to leave you confused. The drink menu was also ok with a good selection for wines and hardly any cocktails to choose from. We ordered a bottle of red wine, Maraia along with the Calamari for appetizer. The Calamari was very bland with no taste, just crispy. The mustard sauce spread on the bottom of the plate was hardly visible until we got half way into it. I orders for the Shrimp Rhucetta which I felt was just mediocre. My friend got the Linguini with Clams and that tasted better than the Shrimp Rhucetta, had a nice smoky flavor and the sauce was good too. We also had the Hawaiian pizza ordered and that was good. The crust was nice and crispy with some burnt ends which really made the flavor come thru. Also the waitress that served us seemed to be a little distracted or something that she did not care when we asked for more cheese on our dishes that she shaved a few pieces into our glass of wine as well as the water. Hubby has been wanting to take me here for a while and we finally found time to go..... We decided to go with the Pizza for this visit....we'll be back to try the pasta.....it looked really good and the guy next to use said he always gets the pasta. It was a happy surprise when our waitress came over, she used to work at our favorite restaurant. She is such a sweetheart. So we ordered the funghi brushetta but it never came :o( They did apologize for the mistake. We were actually kinda happy it didn't get ordered.....It would have been bread overload. I mean we were getting pizza and they bring out warm bread with a delicious garlic spread....what were we thinking???? We plain on getting it next time.....with the pasta. Oh hey make sure you ask for the bread if they forget to bring it out. We ordered the Wise Guy with Sausage & mushrooms with a red sauce...it was so yummy! And we tried the Inverno which is a white pie with roasted butternut squash, brussel sprouts & bacon....that was very tasty also. And it's great to dip the crust into the garlic spread that they give you with the bread....yum yum garlic!! I did order a drink the Spiced Pear Oh! My GOD! It was so good I wanted to suck the ice cubes!! I didn't though....would have not been a good sight for the other diners. I stopped by here this past Monday with my coworker for dinner. We had both been past Sorella many times before and the last time I walked by the pizza oven caught my eye. You see they have a nice brick pizza oven near the back of the restaurant and a number of different pizzas on their menu. Whenever we arrived at shortly before 6 the place was completely empty. As a matter of a fact during the entire hour that we were there only another 2 tables came in during that time. In any case the front of the restaurant is a little weird to enter but once you get to the hostess stand there is a dining room behind that and then the pizza oven all the way in the back. For our appetizer my coworker and I decided to split the roasted brussel sprouts with aged balsamic vinegar and pancetta. Then for our entrees we decided to split two pizzas (dirty bird and barbecues chicken) while I went with the orecchiette for my entree. Our appetizer came our first and ended up being pretty good. The Brussels sprouts were roasted nicely and had a bit of char on them while the pancetta gave a nice addition of saltiness. I couldn't really taste the aged balsamic on this dish but it didn't matter because it was still pretty good. After we had finished that our two pizzas came out. The menu described the barbeque chicken pizza as a pizza with molasses barbecue, grilled chicken, red onion, aged vermont cheddar while the dirty bird was a white pie, pulled chicken, pickled peppers, romaine, hot sauce and bleu cheese. Both of them were pretty good albeit quite different. The barbecue pizza had a very sweet sauce (I am glad I didn't have to eat all of it myself) and was slightly over cooked. Meanwhile the dirty bird was a little spicy but great with the blue cheese. The only thing that really confused me about it was the romaine which didn't seem to add anything except maybe color to the pizza. Even though their taste was good I was also a little disappointed in the crusts of both which weren't bad but not as great as I would have expected from a brick oven. Last but certainly not least was my orecchiette entree. The menu described it as spicy pork sausage, broccoli rabe, arrabbiata, calabrian chili and it was delicious. The arrabbiata sauce was spicy and tasty which matched the somewhat spicy pork perfectly. Meanwhile the pasta was cooked perfectly and the broccoli rabe made it feel "heathy." My only complaint about the dish is that there was only one Calabrian chile in the dish which was sad but overall it was a delicious and cohesive dish. The bottom line for me is that I would stop by here again in the future. All of the dishes that we had were solid and I especially loved the orecchiette. read more
