Hubby has been wanting to take me here for a while and we finally found time to go..... We decided to go with the Pizza for this visit....we'll be back to try the pasta.....it looked really good and the guy next to use said he always gets the pasta. It was a happy surprise when our waitress came over, she used to work at our favorite restaurant. She is such a sweetheart. So we ordered the funghi brushetta but it never came :o( They did apologize for the mistake. We were actually kinda happy it didn't get ordered.....It would have been bread overload. I mean we were getting pizza and they bring out warm bread with a delicious garlic spread....what were we thinking???? We plain on getting it next time.....with the pasta. Oh hey make sure you ask for the bread if they forget to bring it out. We ordered the Wise Guy with Sausage & mushrooms with a red sauce...it was so yummy! And we tried the Inverno which is a white pie with roasted butternut squash, brussel sprouts & bacon....that was very tasty also. And it's great to dip the crust into the garlic spread that they give you with the bread....yum yum garlic!! I did order a drink the Spiced Pear Oh! My GOD! It was so good I wanted to suck the ice cubes!! I didn't though....would have not been a good sight for the other diners. Stopped in for their wood-fired pizza and we weren't disappointed. Fresh food, reasonable prices and a nice environment is what you will find at this establishment. We kept it simple and enjoyed a nice tomato and mozzarella salad, followed by pizza. Everything was delicious, and the pizza was slightly well-done, exactly how I ordered it. I stopped by here this past Monday with my coworker for dinner. We had both been past Sorella many times before and the last time I walked by the pizza oven caught my eye. You see they have a nice brick pizza oven near the back of the restaurant and a number of different pizzas on their menu. Whenever we arrived at shortly before 6 the place was completely empty. As a matter of a fact during the entire hour that we were there only another 2 tables came in during that time. In any case the front of the restaurant is a little weird to enter but once you get to the hostess stand there is a dining room behind that and then the pizza oven all the way in the back. For our appetizer my coworker and I decided to split the roasted brussel sprouts with aged balsamic vinegar and pancetta. Then for our entrees we decided to split two pizzas (dirty bird and barbecues chicken) while I went with the orecchiette for my entree. Our appetizer came our first and ended up being pretty good. The Brussels sprouts were roasted nicely and had a bit of char on them while the pancetta gave a nice addition of saltiness. I couldn't really taste the aged balsamic on this dish but it didn't matter because it was still pretty good. After we had finished that our two pizzas came out. The menu described the barbeque chicken pizza as a pizza with molasses barbecue, grilled chicken, red onion, aged vermont cheddar while the dirty bird was a white pie, pulled chicken, pickled peppers, romaine, hot sauce and bleu cheese. Both of them were pretty good albeit quite different. The barbecue pizza had a very sweet sauce (I am glad I didn't have to eat all of it myself) and was slightly over cooked. Meanwhile the dirty bird was a little spicy but great with the blue cheese. The only thing that really confused me about it was the romaine which didn't seem to add anything except maybe color to the pizza. Even though their taste was good I was also a little disappointed in the crusts of both which weren't bad but not as great as I would have expected from a brick oven. Last but certainly not least was my orecchiette entree. The menu described it as spicy pork sausage, broccoli rabe, arrabbiata, calabrian chili and it was delicious. The arrabbiata sauce was spicy and tasty which matched the somewhat spicy pork perfectly. Meanwhile the pasta was cooked perfectly and the broccoli rabe made it feel "heathy." My only complaint about the dish is that there was only one Calabrian chile in the dish which was sad but overall it was a delicious and cohesive dish. The bottom line for me is that I would stop by here again in the future. All of the dishes that we had were solid and I especially loved the orecchiette. read more

Sorella is a nice restaurant to grab lunch or happy hour in the downtown Hartford area. I've been here several times for both and I tend to gravitate toward the pizza and salad for lunch (sold separately). I've tried the plain pizza pie and also the Margherita versions which you can also add freshly grated parm. I've never had any of the entrees. The service is always prompt and friendly. During happy hour you can get a whole pie which has about 6 slices or so for around $5. I've also attended a luncheon here on the company where they served chicken parm and pasta dishes which were very tasty. The only downside was the room that held over 20 people was downstairs in the basement. Overall, this is definitely a solid option if you're in the mood for pizza or Italian fare downtown. read more

I came here for lunch with my team at work at noon on a Thursday. We found parking in the lot right next to the restaurant, which was also easy to find. There wasn't a wait for lunch and we were seated right away. I ordered the meatball sandwich and my teammates got pasta and salads. We were told we could order pizza, but a lunch order came in for pickup for 20 pizzas, so it would take a while. Not the restaurant's fault at all, I was just hoping to get pizza. The only reason I'm giving this place 4 stars is due to the price. My sandwich was $13 and came with three meatballs in it and a handful of arugula. There are places nearby that are the same price but you get a side of fries or a larger sandwich. However the sandwich was extremely good and the sauce didn't make the sandwich to soggy. read more

My daughter & I grabbed dinner here before heading to see Hamilton at the Bushnell Performing Arts Center. It was very busy but we were able to get a high top table for 2. Our waiter Paulie was not the best. We watched as he was Mr. Personality to tables all around us but was all business with us. He came over & asked if we wanted a drink & we both said we were good with water. After that he seemed very disinterested in us. He took our order & someone else delivered it & he didn't come back over until my daughters pizza pan was empty & he grabbed it & asked if we wanted coffee or dessert. I asked for a box & then he never came back after dropping off my boxed food & we had to ask another waiter for our check. Nikki came by & refilled our water & Lynn brought us the focaccia bread with a cold creamy garlic dip which was delicious. My meatballs were outstanding! Lynn also brought me some extra red sauce for my pasta which was also homemade. The pastas here are all homemade & they also offer gluten free as well. All in all I gave the restaurant itself a good rating because the food & other staff were very good. I would definitely eat here again or recommend it to anyone visiting the Hartford area. read more

If you are in Hartford and can stop for a meal -- SORELLA is a must dine. And I mean MUST***. A++++ in every way. Welcoming, warm, friendly, varied menu, it was the perfect end to a perfect trip to Connecticut. We had: Sicilian style Calamari, appetizer meatballs, roast kale salad, Chicken Marsala, BBQ Chicken wood fired pizza, Orecchiette with sausage and peppers, and then dessert... we could not resist ... chocolate mousse, cannolis, and tiramisu. The roast kale salad was delicate and not overpowering. Meatballs fell apart and melted in the mouth, and the calamari was done to perfection. The chicken Marsala was heavenly - the brown sauce was exquisite and perfection. The pizza ideal, not too much cheese or sauce and well balanced. The orecchiette was spicy but not overpowering. Dessert. We had to sample - and what a delight. The chocolate mousse was the best outside of a night to remember in Paris in 2001. The cannolis with the roast dark cherries were deep and flavorful, and the tiramisu from presentation to taste... perfection also. Yes, I recommend this restaurant. I rarely order pizza when out to eat as I'm just not into it but it was my turn to order and we were starving. I ordered a white pizza with chicken and olives. Simple enough. But when it came it turned out to be hands down some of the best pizza I've ever had. And I know pizza. I happen to live 15 miles outside of New Haven. That's gotta mean something. Anyway my drink was called "The Lime & The Coconut" made with Coconut purée, lime juice, and 1800 something something. They serve it mild or spicy. I went with spicy which tasted to me like the perfect apple pie for some reason. My nephew ordered a cheesesteak with fries which he loved and my cousin had a spicy red pizza with jalapeños. Incredible. Everything I tried was 10/10 in terms of taste and quality. We were all surprised. The waitstaff was very welcoming. The interior has been changed by previous restaurants so many times but Sorella's iteration feels high end and authentic. If you can find a spot to park (paid lot across Pratt St / free street parking after 6PM) then you'll enjoy this gem. Will come again. read more

Met colleagues here before a show. Had no expectations. We absolutely loved it. We had Brussel sprouts for the table which were great. Two leaf bases salads were enjoyed plus the buratta. The tomato jam paired beautifully with the creamy, soft mozzarella and charcoal grilled bread. The recommended Pinot Grigio rounded out the plate. Then for meals we had the Chicken Marsala, ravioli, mushroom linguini, and beef bolognese. Many plates were cleaned even as we headed to sit for the theatre. The wood fired pizzas that passed by our table looked great and the fire master happily engaged me as I swooned over the oven. Not in Hartford often, but will def be back. read more

My daughter and I were in town for a field hockey tournament. After a long day in the car we were looking for a restaurant within walking distant of our hotel. Sorella's got decent reviews on Yelp so we decided to check it out. Turns out our experience was just that....decent. The staff was friendly and we were seated and waited on promptly. Yet, as the evening progressed we seemed to be forgotten for periods of time despite the fact that the restaurant was empty. We were seated near the wood fired oven which was cool since I love watching food be prepared and cooked. Both of us ordered a wood fired pizza and both of us found them to be average. Despite the fact that the crust was thin and we chose pizzas with few toppings, the pizzas were still a bit soggy. I ordered a Diablo pizza which was supposed to be super spicy. The hostess even came over to check and see how I liked it. Unfortunately, not only did I not notice any heat, I found the whole thing super bland. Not exactly "Diablo"!! I went back (for work) and ordered a pesto pasta which was better but also kind of felt like it was trying to be complicated to make itself seem fancy and yet the add-ones didn't actually make the dish any better. I went here with a friend for happy hour and the Taste of Hartford pre-fix menu (3 courses, ~$20). We went pretty early, around 4:45pm, and the happy hour deals are really great- I got a vodka cranberry and Pinot Grigio each for $3, and the happy hour snacks looked very cheap too. For my main course I got Shrimp Garganelle, and I definitely enjoyed it. The veal & ricotta meatballs appetizer was ehh, but the cheesecake was great!! Overall I found the prices to be reasonable and the prefix was one of the better ones I found for Taste of Hartford. The restaurant is nice, cute, and clean and the service was great! A great downtown option for lunch. They do a great job of getting you in and out within an hour. Try to make a reservation if you have more than two people, though. Everyone has been happy with their meals. I enjoy the salmon, and everyone has raved about the pasta dishes. I haven't come for dinner yet, but I'm sure the food would be just as good. read more

WORST RESTAURANT EVER!! so it was my grandmothers birthday and we went here. we ordered mozzarella sticks for appetizer and something else. we didn't want the other appetizer because we did not like it. so the guy was being rude and not much on the menu and we left!! we payed for the mozzarella sticks. AND THEY CHASED us down. They said we had to pay for the food we DID NOT EVEN TOUCH. took my grandmothers license plate. and we drove to another restaurant. they called the cops and we were sitting there for 5 minutes. so we left to another restaurant. and they got there when we were eating. and the police didn't take our side. THEY TOOK THEIRS. Because i guess they lied and said we ate it. So we payed FIFTY dollars for food we DID NOT EVEN SEE. They said it was on the grill but how would the food get on the grill that fast? Never come here. They are super rude and this is the worst place i have ever went. read more

I didn't think the Hartford-area needed another Italian restaurant. While that may be true, Sorella definitely makes the case that another Italian restaurant can be a good thing. Because after a recent visit, I'm ready to conclude it's good. Very good in fact. Service for a lunch was impeccable. Ordering was a snap, water carafes on the table (and refilled when empty), and prompt warm food. For lunch, it ain't cheap. But for a cold winter day, the risotto with chicken was the perfect comfort food. Even better, it was prepared al-dente meaning it wasn't overcooked. Days later, I'm still thinking about the perfection of that dish. The fried brussel sprouts were also terrific with crispy outside and moist inside. Delicious. So, why the lack of a 5th star? A few things. First, the price is high. Whether it can sustain that is a big question. And second, I've seen my initial impressions of its sister restaurants Dish and Dish n Dat, go down after several months after the chefs have moved on. In Dish's case, it has come back from its valley and is now in my rotation downtown. But Dish n Dat has just turned into a slightly more upscale version of Friendly's. Can Sorella avoid the curse that has plagued its other restaurants? I hope so and I'll be ready to award a fifth star if it can maintain the consistency its showing early on. For now, it's definitely a place to try. Yum. read more

Let's make this known once and for all, this place is the Darkhorse of Italian restaurants in Hartford. No one sees this place coming. We sure didn't. It was excellent. Service was prompt knowledgeable and accommodating. Pleasant interior design, open, warm color hues, lots of light, acoustics need tweaking. We toyed with ordering pizza that would be charred to perfection in the impressive wood oven in the rear of the resturant but we ended up with a gazillion appetizers and then (as if there was room to extended another belt hole) on to entrees. Brussels sprouts, fried artichoke, grilled calamari, burrata, and house made bread were all spectacular! Oh and the charcuterie was outstanding with bold cheeses and cured meats. We ate ourselves silly. The arugula salad and the roasted red pepper & eggplant salad were a meal in themselves. Roasted veggies, tangy cheese, crisp greens dressed in fruity extra virgin olive oil made for very special salads indeed. Now the black linguini w bottarga was an explosion of flavor and texture and visual contrast. The bolognese was something dreams are made of. Not too happy with the hanger steak, just not as good as Mom's had before. We couldn't get enough of their excellent house made a aoli. Even if you don't eat a aoli trust me you'll slather it all over your old tennis shoes. Can't wait to go back & defiantly have the pizza. Highly suggested. read more

My boyfriend and I stopped by Sorella on Sunday night because we were dying to try a new pizza option downtown. We are big fans of Dish so we had high hopes. We started by ordering some antipasta plates; the pickled beets and roasted cauliflower; both were delicious! Perfect sized portions to share with one or two others. The bartender also provided us with bread with oil and roasted garlic. The garlic was perfectly cooked and so rich and yummy. We then ordered two pizzas, with every intention of taking some home. I picked a white pizza with brussel sprouts, prosciutto, and butternut squash. It was INCREDIBLE! I almost ate the whole thing at the one sitting! My boyfriend opted for a red pie with jalapeno, and pepperoni. The jalapeno was super fresh and HOT HOT HOT. I found the pizza itself to be a little soggy as a result of the sauce, but don't get me wrong it was still good. All in all we found the food to be good, the atmosphere inviting, the decor attractive and the staff attentive and friendly. I'll absolutely go back, but I'll probably stick with only the white pizza going forward. read more

I went to Sorella's last week with 5 other people for restaurant week and it was first time at the restaurant. I was debating writing this review until I ate there a second time since I know I will since I now live in the hartford area. Let me first start by saying the wait staff here was extremely nice and courteous and they had a good drinks selection but that was really the only thing I liked here. This also may have been because the restaurant was empty. I ordered the restaurant week menu and got the kale salad, rigatoni saltimbocca, and the tiramisu... it sounded good to me. Myself and others ordered drinks and we got them quick I got a beer so you cant really mess that up. When we got to the point of appetizers myself and another member of the group got the wrong dish...I worked in the restaurant industry so no biggie i get it that tickets can get messed up..... Kale Salad....This is something that i believe you cant really mess up it was neither bad nor spectacular but i figured it would have been more tasty.... Next the main course came out....but it came out sporadically...this pissed me off...owning a restaurant 101 if there is a group of people make sure all the dishes come out at the same time not 5-10mins later. This is unacceptable. Rigatoni Saltimbocca- My first bite was WOA...that amount of salt that was dumped into this sauce was way to much for anyone to handle and my rigatoni was really undercooked (NOT Al dente). This is the easiest pasta to test if it is cooked right take a noodle and cut it in half and see the white ring if it is cooked right. The other members of the table had similar reactions to me by indicating the food was not cooked correctly in the pizza divalo and pizza margharetta's case they were over the top spicy...I like spicy food but it was just to much. However in this terrible story one person got the Fusilli melanzana which i tasted and it was pretty good i wish i got that dish. After this the whole group got the tiramisui which was actually not bad...would i get it off the restaurant week menu no...but it wasn't bad After eating part of my main dish and tasting everyone else's I question the abilities of the individual cooking the food and the general manager/owner of the restaurant not testing the cooking to make sure it is adequate. For a restaurant that perceives itself to be high end it needs a lot of work or i think it will go out of business. Since I live in the hartford area I will probably give this place another shot but not for a while. If the owner sees this I hope you fix your issues in the kitchen and do not go out of business like so many of the business in your location. read more

Dined here for the first time before a show. The waiter was conscious of our show time but didn't make us feel rushed at all. Food: we split the calamari and found it to be just ok, a tad oily and bland which is pretty easy to fix. Friend had a pizza which she enjoyed, I had the butternut squash ravioli which was really, really good. The waiter also gave us a complimentary dessert as we were celebrating my friend's birthday. Drinks: I opted to have wine and was happy with their offerings, friend had a cocktail and was happy with it. The cocktail menu was varied so there is definitely something for everyone on it. Staff: The staff was 5 stars, all very attentive and friendly. The definitely work hard to make you feel like a valued guest. This local cuchina is awesome! We were encounter from CT to NH and wanted a casual place to stop for dinner. The staff was very nice. Our waitperson Suzanne was awesome! Her recommendations and intuitive timing for service made our evening. The food was excellent. I recommend the homemade burrata with pepper caponata as an appty. The pasta dishes were great. And even though we don't usually have dessert, Suzanne recommended the homemade cannolis. To die for! Make this place your next date night or family gathering. You won't he sorry. Woulda loved to give this a 4-5 stars..... was such a lovely place. Waited 20 mins for bar waitress to come up to us to just drop waters. I told her I was celiac so I can have gluten or wheat products at all as I will get extremely sick. So I got pasta with chicken added. Pasta tasted great but it was gluten free pasta given to me or there was flour added to the base of the sauce to thicken it I spent half my night in the bathroom doubled over. I know I take a risk eating out but I really thought the waitress and kitchen knew about food allergies and that have recook everything separately and not add flour...... wish guys the best I won't be returning. read more

Went with coworkers while at a conference and mostly loved it! We had great service and loved the atmosphere. We grabbed garlic bread as an appetizer and was oddly too cheesy and yet not flavorful enough. (I have never until now said a thing could be too cheesy and not taste good). However, I ordered the linguine cacio e pepe and it was amazing! Great flavor, light, definitely homemade pasta. I could eat it every day!!! Would definitely go back for that pasta!! read more

They have an amazing sauteed calamari appetizer served in a marinara sauce that covers a piece of bread - it's a must, best calamari i've had in a while Their pizza is good, just very thin in the center, which is why they tell you to stick to no more than 2 toppings. I got the red pie with just marinara sauce, and their was barely any sauce on the pizza, but the waitress was willing to get me more marinara on the side to dunk it in....which was nice, but the sauce by itself was flavorless, first time ever I had to add salt to a restaurant's sauce to add flavor. A great brick oven pizza the crust was delicious and so fresh tasing very crispy the sauce was a nice homemade taste not overly sweet or seasoned. Over the past few years, every experience I've had with them has been highly positive. They never disappoint in providing high-quality service and have even gone above and beyond to deliver exceptional service. One instance of their compassion and devotion to customer service was shown when my company needed to have a large, last-minute order fulfilled for a C-suite level meeting. Not only did Sorella quickly accommodate our needs, but they did it with humor and hospitality. The manager even offered me a beverage while I waited for the order to be prepared, then helped me take the large order by walking with me across the street to my office building and floor where our meeting took place.
