I figured spaghetti at an Italian place would be a safe bet. Nope. The sauce was watery and runny, had huge chunks of tomatoes, and huge chunks of onions. There was more sauce than noodles. We tried to find a real pizza restaurant near our home but was not easy to find it. My wife checked for a while to find the pizza restaurant in LB. Finally we decided to go to Sorrento on Orange and Carson. Not many customers eating after 2 this afternoon but lots of pick up orders in a row. We first wanted test order for the pizza. Chose the 14 inch Large half half, BBQ CHICKEN, Pilo's Deluxe. The pizza crust was super crunchy, fluffy like Italian bread. The red sauce was perfect. Especially toppings and cheeses, amazingly endless....way way a lot. My wife got shocked about the toppings w large size $24.14. We both were sooooo happy. I got IPA, not many variety of tap beers but was really good. Overall, great place for pizza, pasta party. The dining area is huge w so many TV screens. You can stay watching the football, golf tournament, basketball, and baseball games. Great place for italian foods, I am wondering if the canzone is good too.... I am a pizza lover like my wife. I found this spot because of their viral pizza challenge and realized it's only a few minutes from my house. It's tucked away in the plaza, so I'd never noticed it before. The lovely missus and I were in North Long Beach and the missus said we need to stop by Sorrento for lunch. We were happy to learn that Ray is in and he came to our table. It's been awhile since the last time we had this real encounter, and we felt really honored being able to chit chat and upate. The missus ordered the special cheese pizza with pineapple and ham. The pizza was cheesy and had a beautiful crust. I was informed by the young server that Sorrento has a great lunch special... a big half portion of the Lasagna with a side of garden salad and a drink... that is a really good lunch value for me because the Lasagna is my most favorite dish. I also did a to go order for what is called a pizza sub.... molten cheese on top of garlic bread and then topped with abundant slices of pepperoni....stick that in the oven and arriverderci, it is like having an individual pizza that I'm enjoying as I write this. My second visit here, and once again the food absolutely delivered. After a long week of work, I decided to take myself out on a solo dinner as a little reward. I came in around 8:30 p.m., knowing they close at 10, and asked if I could sit in a quiet table in the back. The hostess immediately recognized me from my last visit (she even remembered my infamous extra-garlic pizza ), which honestly made me feel welcomed. It's those little things that leave a lasting impression. This time I ordered the chicken Parmesan with fettuccine, along with the dinner salad and garlic bread. Everything was outstanding. The chicken was perfectly cooked, the marinara sauce was rich and flavorful, the mozzarella was delicious, and the pasta was cooked just the way I like it. The salad was fresh, the garlic bread was great, and the portions are incredibly generous. Honestly, one entrée could easily feed two people, so I happily took leftovers home. My server appeared to be fairly new or possibly still in training. She was polite, kind, and genuinely wanted to do a good job. Near the end of my meal, around 9:30, she asked if I would mind moving to another table so they could begin cleaning the back section before closing. I'll admit, I was a little caught off guard and even asked if I was being rushed. She immediately reassured me that wasn't her intention and apologized, explaining they were just trying to get a head start on closing duties. While I would have preferred to finish my meal where I was seated without feeling like I needed to hurry, I also understand everyone has long days, especially in the restaurant industry. I chose to finish up, packed my leftovers, and there were no hard feelings. What really stood out was how she finished the experience. She checked to make sure I enjoyed everything, asked how the meal was, recommended another entrée for my next visit, and even suggested the tiramisu--which was an easy 10/10. I'm glad I listened. Overall, the food was phenomenal, the atmosphere is warm and inviting, and the staff genuinely cares about their guests. My only suggestion would be to avoid asking guests to move tables while they're still enjoying their meal, even if closing time is approaching. It can unintentionally make someone feel rushed. That said, this place is a hidden gem on the north side. Great portions, excellent Italian food, friendly people, and an atmosphere that keeps you coming back. I'll definitely be back--just a little earlier next time so everyone can enjoy the evening without feeling pressed for time. Compliments to the chef and the entire kitchen. So these are literally the first 2 slices of pizza removed from the box. It's REALLY hard to f*ck up a pepperoni pizza, but this raw dough is a joke. Impossible to cut, lift or much less handle to eat. This is also after selecting "extra cooked" in their own pre set options. I would rate our experience a 3.5 and I'm still totally willing to check this place out again with the hope to give this place a higher rating. It started off promising. This place was busy on a Friday night, filled with large groups and families. We took this as a good sign. Staff greeted us immediately, cleaned a table for us, and brought us to our seats. It took a while for our waitress to come around, so by the time she came for our drink order, we had our food order ready for her. Then 40 minutes later, we received an update that our pizzas were in the oven and would be out shortly. Roughly 10 minutes after that, we received our order along with an apology for the wait and an explanation that they were busy with a lot of orders. I took their explanation at face value because I could see how busy the dining area was, and staff was hustling to bring food to the other tables. So I don't at all think they forgot about us or anything. I do give this place credit for having legit vegan options on their menu. I had the All Meat Vegan Pizza which comes with a generous amount of vegan chicken, vegan meatball, vegan chorizo & vegan cheese. Flavor-wise, the chicken was pretty tasteless but at least the meatball and chorizo were yummy. I liked the texture of the crust which was doughy and a perfect amount of toastiness. Moved to the area and decided to try it since it's nearby. Good: Excellent service, good prices Could improve: I got the broccoli Alfredo and bread sticks. The bread sticks were a bit bland, I wish the dough had had more flavor and was cooked a bit longer. The cheese on top was good, but could maybe benefit from some garlic Parmesan oil or something. I like that you could choose marinara or ranch. I tried both and the marinara was just alright. No complaints about the ranch. The Alfredo sauce was so bland, I ended up dousing it with pepper and Parmesan but it still wasn't enough. I wish the broccoli had been roasted instead of steamed as well for better flavor and texture. Chunks of my fettuccine came stuck together as well. The ambiance was probably the worst part. They have overhead recessed bright white lights and ceiling fans beneath them. The entire restaurant is mostly grey as well ao it's like you're sitting in a haunted house with a strobe light because the fans are below the lights constantly making the light flicker. Lights are usually under fans for this reason. it's kind of amazing the restaurant has them set up like that. I'm begging the restaurant to turn the fans off at night and get warm lightbulbs it will do so much for the restaurants appeal I promise I think they're more known for their pizza so would definitely come back and try that before saying I wouldn't come back. I've always called in my order for pickup, but the vibe reminds me of getting pizza after playing softball; lots of space for groups, sports games are playing on TV and a few arcade games as well. They always quote 30-45 minutes but it's usually an hour, which I've been patient about... but this time was ridiculous. Every time I called to check on the order, it was like they didn't know who I was or what I ordered. Taking the order over the phone is also really frustrating--I have to repeat myself over and over, and nothing seems to stick. Sorrento's Italian Kitchen is a hidden gem tucked away in a little plaza off Orange and Carson ( same parking lot as Mr. Petes). My family and I dined in and the establishment was cozy and clean. Upon arrival you can seat yourself and the waitress will take your order. I visibly noticed our waitress seemed kind of over it as she didn't bother to crack a smile or set any sort of welcoming tone but it is what it is. I ordered some sodas for the kiddos and my mom and I shared a pitcher of Modelo. We opted for the mozzarella sticks and buffalo wings for starters and goodness they serve up some mean wings! I loved their buffalo sauce and would recommend the wings to anyone. I love mozzarella sticks and these also passed the vibe check! Battered and fresh offering a deliciously satisfying cheese-pull! My mom ordered the Shrimp Broccoli Alfredo pasta and though she enjoyed it her only complaint was that the shrimp tasted a little off like it needed to have been cooked more. I came in today to pick up 5 pizzas for my daughter's birthday party. There was a glitch on our end and neither of us placed the order. Even with a full seating in the restaurant, the people working that I interacted with jumped to action, made a plan and executed. Very much enjoyed our recent pizza night with takeout from Sorrento's. Entrance is in the side facing the slightly dingy mini-mall on the corner of Orange and Carson. We shared an XL pizza, half "meat lovers", half cheese for the kids. XL doesn't seem so big for a pizza now that kids are growing up. Nice crust flavor, well-baked, and meat side had extreme amount of toppings (9.5/10). Overall a very enjoyable pizzeria pizza (8.5/10). Antipasto salad was pretty good (8/10) big with a ton of cheese (absurd amount!), pepperoni and salami. Italian dressing was pretty good. Meatballs (3) in tomato sauce were large, quite tender and slightly sweet, sauce tasted fresh and herby and without any goopiness or pastiness that some red sauces have (8.5/10). Overall nice and didn't break the bank. Friendly and fast service. They do have a decent sized dining room inside. For sure we will be back here again!
