We got to sit in the patio, no wait time! The best pasta dish we had was the braised beef, amazing flavors and the meat was super tender, a must have. The cacio e Pepe was also tasty, not too much pepper but it need of more cheese. The salmon was well cooked and the kids pasta was a good portion. The gem cesar salad was a small portion for the $17 price tag and with no key ingredients like anchovies, lemon tangy flavor or fresh Parmigiano Reggiano. North Italia Back in 2016, I had the chance to travel to Italy, and North Italia honestly brought me right back. The biggest thing I noticed? The pasta. It's fresh, dense, and has that authentic bite that makes it feel completely different from your average noodles. It's located inside the Cerritos mall and replaced what was previously CPK. The interior is well decorated and spacious with an enclosed patio seating area. I'd heard good things about the El Segundo location and recently found out they opened one in Cerritos, so I took my mom there for an early Mother's Day dinner on the Saturday before Mother's Day. We didn't have reservations, so we expected a wait. The restaurant was packed, and we ended up waiting about 30 minutes to be seated. We ordered the truffle garlic bread, spicy rigatoni vodka, squid ink tonnarreli and a pizza with half The Pig and half hot honey prosciutto. Spicy Rigatoni Vodka - 4/5 The dish was delicious, and you could definitely tell the pasta was handmade. It wasn't spicy at all to me, but I also have a pretty high spice tolerance. I do wish it had more meat, and the portion size felt a little small. I was shocked to find out it was nearly 2,000 calories for the amount served. Squid Ink Tonnarreli - 5/5 This was probably my favorite dish of the night. It was rich, savory, and really flavorful. I'd never had squid ink pasta before, although I've had Filipino squid cooked in squid ink many times. The dish came with squid, shrimp, and a spicy tomato-based sauce. We asked for it mild, but I honestly think it would've been even better spicy. The portion size was good too. Pizza - 3/5 Since they make handmade pasta, I assumed the pizza dough would be amazing, but it was just average. Parts of the crust were a little burnt. The Pig (their all-meat pizza) was okay but slightly too salty for me. The hot honey prosciutto side was better, although they were pretty light on the toppings. I probably wouldn't order pizza here again. Truffle Garlic Bread - 4/5 Really good, but overpriced at $18.50 for 9 small square pieces. The bread was crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, and very buttery. Customer Service - 5/5 Our waitress was friendly, attentive, and explained the menu really well. I appreciated that she mentioned the spice levels could be adjusted on certain dishes. She also refilled my iced tea without me having to ask and even brought me a to-go cup for it. My family and I visited North Italia on May 25th, (yeah I'm late). We only waited about 15 minutes to be seated, and from that point on, everything was fantastic. A huge thank you to our server, Nick, who was truly exceptional! Growing up with Italian food - nothing fancy either - has made it difficult to find restaurants worth going to and spending an entire day's paycheck on so... Did North Italia finally scratch that itch I've been having for years? Honestly? Ye. Let's get into the food. Starting with the White Truffle Garlic Bread that is plastered all over yelp. The first bite was overwhelmingly garlicky - almost like it was topped with raw garlic (it wasn't) - but the other bites were much more balanced and it was very fresh and flavorful. It is topped with a ricotta that slightly resembles butter both in taste and texture so I was not a huge fan but it was a pretty solid dish. Would I order again? Probably not, since it's $18... for bread. I love bread but times are tough and I just can't justify the pricing in my head. Next we shared: Eggplant Parmesan, Funghi Pizza, Spicy Rigatoni Vodka and Caesar Salad. This threw me off completely but the highlight of our meal was the Eggplant Parmesan. It was absolutely delicious. Crispy, fresh, well-seasoned, zero bitterness, just perfect. I am not vegetarian - I probably should be - but even as a meat-eater, this dish blew everything else out of the water. 10/10. Spicy Rigatoni Vodka was delightful. I love spicy foods so my tolerance is a little higher than most, but I was surprised at the balance of heat & flavor in this dish and I would most definitely recommend and order again. Good portion as well, was able to take some home for lunch the next day - reheats very well too! 10/10 Funghi Pizza was alright. If you're familiar with fugazetta pizza, it slightly resembled that - ton of onion. Which, for a pizza called funghi, I wasn't really expecting. I love onion but I would've preferred the mushrooms made more of a stand out. Crust was very soft and yummy. Caesar Salad was underwhelming. It had a slight vinegary taste that we weren't expecting and they were stingy with the croutons, counted 2 on my plate... sadness. Small portion was $7. 6/10. Now here is my beef - desserts. This is the 2nd time I came specifically to get dessert, and I couldn't - sold out. I made an early reservation as a kind of safeguard to guarantee I'd finally be able to try their butter cake but to no avail. Sold out for a second time! I fear I'll never be able to try it. Can you guys like... make... more of it? I understand if you're near closing that you might be out but midday? The first denial of butter cake was for my birthday as well so extra heartbreaking as we had to settle for Lazy Dog and theirs is like getting a Kia when you came for a Ferrari. I do want to mention that the service here has been phenomenal on both visits and I'll be sure to grab their names on my next visit but honestly everyone here seems super chill. Food (plus service tip) was approximately $60 per person, so definitely not a casual everyday spot - which adds to my dessert frustration. I want my butter cake! Anyway... Delicioso North Italia! This restaurant was so so tasty, plus the vibes and staff were great as well. I would highly recommend making a reservation because I don't think my friends and I would have gotten in otherwise. We got the focaccia, which was so flaky and perfectly toasted on the outside and fluffy on the inside. There was a ball of garlic butter to spread on the bread and that was packed with flavor, a little went a longg way. Then my friends got the spicy rigatoni (highly recommend) and the bolognese (which was also delicious but not my favorite pasta dish in general). My usual order is to start off with the Calamari Fritti and White Truffle Garlic Bread with a side of vodka sauce. I always order a salad, pizza, and a pasta. My go-to salad is the Seasonal Vegetable, which has grilled asparagus, avocado, broccolini, sweet corn, heirloom tomato, goat cheese, pistachio with an avocado vinaigrette. For pizza, I take turns getting the Margherita Tie Dye (red sauce + pesto sauce), Funghi, and Hot Honey & Smoked Proscuitto. They are all so good, and their pizza dough is so soft and pillowy! For pasta, I get either the Lumache Alla Norcina (white sauce with black truffle) or the Spicy Rigatoni Vodka. I know that they're known for heir Bolognese (house specialty) but I have yet to try that one! For dessert, I've tried their Bombolini (Italian donuts) and Brooke Sundae. Recently returned to North Italia with friends and it was Dine LA week. For $55, you got a 3 course meal. Not bad! I made reservations over a week ahead which was a breeze and appreciated the open table reminders. We arrived and the hostess greeted me and offered to sit us despite our full party hadn't arrived. Seating is available at the bar, in the main dining room, or in the fully covered patio. They have a happy hour from 3pm to 6pm on weekdays, so we sat in the bar area. We started off with the Zucca chips ($9 during happy hour, normally $12.50). This is a huge bowl of very thin slices of zucchini with a light breading. They are surprisingly light, and the pesto aioli was great for dipping. They were only a tiny bit greasy. They are addictive, and we kept reaching for more and more until the bowl was empty. I had the Alta Rossa cocktail (Raspberry Infused Lalo Tequila, Italicus Rosolio, Fresh Lemon, $16.50). What an attractive and colorful cocktail! This was a really great balanced cocktail with a light sweetness and light bitterness. Bonus points as always for the foam top. Italicus always catches my eye on a cocktail menu with its great bergamot flavor. I asked our bartender if I could try a little taste of the Italicus on its own, and she was happy to oblige. Without asking, she also brought a little shot of one of their amaros to try. What awesome service. She had the Phony Negroni ($12). This is a non-alcoholic version of a Negroni. It was served with the same common orange peel slice garnish, and tasted very similar to a full strength negroni with its bitter profile. We also had the Burrata Di Stagione appetizer ($18.50).This had a really great variety of flavors with a good sized serving of creamy burrata cheese along with a nice sweetness from the apple chunks and butternut squash with hazelnuts and bread crumbs. For my entrée, I had the Squid Ink Tonnarelli ($28). It came with a generous amount of shrimp and calamari. The red tomato sauce had the perfect level of spiciness, and the squid ink pasta was great. She had the Roasted Salmon ($28). The salmon was cooked well as ordered, and lays on top of a bed of broccolini and a small bead shaped pasta with a basil pesto sauce. She enjoyed it. Erin was our bartender and server. She was so friendly, and provided great service. I really appreciated her letting me try the Italicus straight, and the unexpected amaro sample.
