Sorrento's is just simply amazing. I had my wedding reception in their basement, and let me tell you, it was a blast. The staff was amazing, the food was excellent, and the whole night was like a dream. The owners are just top notch people who really care about service...it shows through how accommodating they are when planning an event and how great they are with attention to detail the night of. The best part of my reception was when the owner (who was also the bartender) came over at one point and said..."The bar tab is getting kinda high, because of the one table in the back, they are ordering a lot of cosmos!" (Hence my super drunk friends are grouped in one table and acting like fools!) Yes, the outside of this place was kinda crazy when I first visited. We we're planning on going to Art & Elmas last Saturday but we pulled up and read a notice on the door that they were closed for Covid. We really enjoy the Steaks and Salad bar and never had a bad dinner! Our group decided to go the Sorrento's as it's been over 5 years since the last visit Everything was very average and it came to me why we haven't tried them for a number a years. 3 of us has steaks and we all commented on how tough the meat was. We have been here twice and I think I found my favorite dish this time. It is right across from the speedway, but just ignore that and go in anyway, you will like the food. When you enter the bar, it is a somewhat dark interior and very like what you would expect from an old school supper club - cushy booths and tables, cozy interior. To start with, the service was very fast and extremely friendly. Our waitress was warm and welcoming and gave us her drink recommendation, which was their old fashioned. The drink had an orange and cherry on it and it was very good. Sweet but strong at the same time. They bring out their relish tray which was carrots, green onions and radishes with a side of their home-made pimento dip. I always ask for a side of ranch for the veggies and use the pimento on the bread. The bread was fresh with a nice crust, but it would be better if were warm. We opted for the cream of chicken soup, which had very rich, creamy flavor, but there wasn't much in it. Some noodles and minimal veggies. Would have went for the french onion, but the last time I did that, I was too full by the time dinner arrived. Especially with their french onion which was thick and full of cheese and onions. Next up were the salads. I opted for garlic and hubby went with bleu cheese. He got the salad with the bleu cheese crumbles and he said it was a good thing, otherwise the dressing was bland. The garlic was one of the best ones I've ever had, not too strong, not too weak. Just right. I went with the Chicken Vesuvio and opted for twice baked potato instead of wedges. Hubby went with the chopped sirloin served with sauteed onions. After eating the chicken vesuvio, I decided that I never again needed to go another Greek restaurant again. Tears of happiness and contentment. JOY, JOY, JOY! It was soooooo good. Nice size pieces of chicken, broccoli and carrots. In a creamy, rich, garlic white wine sauce with lemon dancing through the dish. Hubby was equally pleased. He said his sirloin wasn't dry, had alot of flavor and he was very happy with the dish. LOTS of onions (stay away from me! LOL!) But oh so good. This place is quite a distance from our house, but totally worth it. Sign on door must wear mask to enter. We had masks on. Girl at reservations desk wearing mask below nose then gave us off to older women with no mask. Looking around 1/2 the staff had no masks. Our waitress was wearing a mask, that is only reason we stayed. Potato Soup was definitely out of a can. Salad was warm. Prime rib was good and cooked exactly how I asked for it. I love Sorrento's and the old school feel of the place. I came here after my sisters graduation and they sat us down right away, the place is massive so it was really good for a big group. The best part of Sorrento's is that it is a meal with bread, soup, salad, and then an entree which you just don't really see anymore. For the soup, get french onion for sure it was some of the best I have ever had. I got the filet mignon for dinner even though the prime rib is what they are famous for. The filet was fantastic for anyone that aren't big fans of Prime rib. The atmosphere has a lakehouse like feel to it and it's a really nice place to sit down for a nice meal. I get to visit my family in Downers Grove once or twice a year from my home in California. About 7 or 8 years ago my dad was searching out for his favorite, prime rib, and I came across Sorrento's, with reviews noting good food and good value, even if not close to DG. On multiple occasions we tried to plan a visit "out west", preferably on a Wed night, but it fell through EVERY time....until tonight. Great things are worth waiting for! I told my parents it was "surprise" dinner night and my daughter and I drove the 45 min to take them out to the boonies. They seemed a little skeptical but trusted me. Immediately upon entering I could see the smiles on their face with the old school look, and it got even better with the relish tray and bread/crackers basket. My mom commented on the wonderful looking menu but we were there for one thing...prime rib! But wait, in addition to the starters, you get soup...and salad...not to mention a side with dinner! Service was attentive and 3 prime rib dinners and a garlic shrimp pasta dinner were ordered. Soups were good, especially the extra $$ baked french onion...dad and my daughter were in heaven. Salad was fresh and crisp. Great start. $28 Wed night prime rib specials arrived, and I'm not sure I have ever seen a bigger cut of beautifully marbled beef like that before. No way any of us were going to finish ours. It was simply superb, nicely seasoned and just the right amount of au jus. Even better was dipping some of the bread with the meat Just perfect. My daughter similarly enjoyed her shrimp dish with 7 nor-so-shrimpy shrimp! The to go boxes are now filled with enough for at least 1 if not more meals for each of us. I wish we would have had room for the chocolate cake. The joy that this meal and surroundings brought to parents' face was as good as the food itself. This is a old fashioned steakhouse and the interior presents a very elegant, cozy, and intimate tone; once you step inside, you can feel it. The waiting staff is all very friendly and we like our waiter as well. Soup- Try their baked French onion soup it's definitely worth to pay a bit extra! It's fresh and tastes excellent with the melting cheese. The soup is light, not like other places with some sort of strong can taste. It's very good! Steak- my partner ordered a strip steak and he likes it a lot especially considering the amount they offer. Fish- I ordered their white fish with lemon-based butter. It's fresh with great seasoning. Side- we both chose garlic mashed potato and it's definitely one of the best we have tried. Dessert- we order their chocolate cake. It's fairly tasty! To start they bring out a veggie tray and a bread basket with the most amazing cheese spread and butter. We had the king Prime Rib and Vinnie's Filet Special. We're getting tired of the "trendy vibe" of restaurants in the western suburbs when Yelp told me about this little Italian Steakhouse in Maple Park. We decided to give it a go. The place is super easy to find. Walking in is like stepping back in time but in a very good way. Everyone is very friendly and helpful. The food is good. Not remarkable but worth going back for. The portions are huge and they serve a full meal. Definitely get that 7-chocolate cake for dessert. Two of us split it but I think we could have split it with 3-4 people. read more

The proprietors of Sorrento's are simply fantastic people, you really couldn't hope to find restaurateurs with more integrity or humility. They are clearly detail and service oriented which is evident because of the level of class maintained for so long by the establishment. I'm also glad to see that the servers are getting a fair amount of credit because they really do work tirelessly. Seriously, they do not get to take breaks. The food is not all straight out of a package as some reviews may have you believe. It's freshly prepared by several chefs, all with at least a decade of experience, who arrive many hours before opening to start cooking. They are the reason that the prime rib has garnered so much favor. I'm vegetarian so I can't actually fully support a steakhouse venue, I'm just here to correct a few assumptions about the place and encourage those who do still enjoy meat to give Sorrento's a try. read more

Go to Sorrento's if you are in the boonies and need to satisfy your prime rib or steak hankering at a reasonable price. A definite supper club feel, this place is a great venue for a meal with the baby boomers. We took mom here for Mother's Day, and it is great for a late lunch or early dinner on a Sunday. The filets were good, cooked perfectly. My dad said the lamb was a bit overlooked. They serve fish too, but none of us tried it. Try the baked French onion soup for a heartier appetizer to your meal, because the salad is lackluster. For dessert we tried the carrot cake and chocolate cake. Save your appetite, fill yourself up with the steak or go somewhere else for dessert because the cakes were dry and bland. Service was fine, but a bit slow on the drink refills and clearing away plates. Prices are reasonable for the cut of meat and all that is included with dinner. I'm not hating this place; it has a few things that are really good, and others that could use improvement. I ordered the aged 18 oz strip steak with mushrooms & double baked potato which was tender & juicy. Their mushroom soup was good, the salad had a great ranch dressing and their steak was more than I could eat. My wife had two boned 1" thick pork chops with broccoli & au gratin potato. The chops were delicious, both tender & moist. She especially loved the au gratin potato. Portions were so big we had to take the rest home. (No disrespect intended). The Menu is free of hyperbole, and cleverness. It's straight and narrow. It is one of the single greatest restaurants in Northern Illinois, and maybe the Country. This is what high-class "going out" was back in the day. If you catch the rhythm, you'll see that this is still a high-class joint. And the food--meaning Steak and Prime Rib--is divine. Order an Old-fashioned, or a Martooni, or a Manhattan. It will be made perfectly. You get a relish tray, just like in the day-radishes, celery, etc. A perfect light appetizer. With Johnnys in Dekalb closing, we "refound" this hidden gem. While my wife does not like the decor, I find it very appealing. Like going to your grandparents house in Wisconsin. In fact, it has a Wisconsin supper club feel. The Prime Rib is second to none and very inexpensive, with the larger cut going for around 22 bucks. Side choices are plentiful and the staff very friendly. This is easy to show up here casual or dressed to the nines and still feel "in place". They bring out a cheese dip and veggie tray with bread when you sit down. TVs are only in bar and I do not think they have wifi, both are pluses for us. Kids will most likely feel at home here as well. Chicken ribs, steaks, fish are all on the menu. We have tried much of it and never been disappointed. Even when the lot looks full, we have never waited for a seat. This is probably due to the fact that it is almost TARDIS like being bigger on the inside than it looks from the outside. All I can say is, if this is a four-star suburban restaurant, I can never leave Chicago. I can't recall ever having such a terrible meal, and I really feel bad saying that. The server was really nice but this meal could not be redeemed. I was with friends looking for something to eat after Kuiper's, and honestly there were so few options, this seemed like the best one. Here's an honest review for you. When you first see the building you're a little weirded out because it seems out of place. I mean it really seems out of place. You walk into a set of double doors. You don't think of it at the time but the doors are not aligned but consciously you're telling yourself that something isn't right. When you enter the restaurant you're met by darkeness. I'm not kidding it is really dark in this place. I'm boring myself while writing this so I'll get straight to the point. This place is awkward. The reviews of this place are fairly accurate. The bread that comes out before your meal should be warm and fresh. It wasn't either. The salad is mediocre with 1 cherry tomato and a dab of dressing. I give this restaurant 3 stores because despite the awkward feeling the food was actually pretty good. My wife and I recently moved back to Illinois and relocated in Maple Park and put Sorrento's on our bucket list for a special occasion dinner. They did not disappoint either, the management was very attentive and answered all my wife's questions in reference to the menu. Our waitress was also just as attentive and frequently checked on us to see if we needed anything. Now for the food: my wife had asked about two of their fish entrees and received a recommendation from management and ordered the Haddock, I ordered the surf and turf. The waitress confirmed the market price and came back to make sure I was comfortable with their price, thought that was nice. So we both started with baked French onion soup, the entrees include relish tray, bread, crackers, butter and their homemade cheese spread. Soup, salad and a side as well. The baked French onion soup includes an additional charge but WELL worth it. After our soup our salads were promptly served. Then came our main course, each meal was presented great and the taste was also great and great portions. We both had twice baked potatoes and the were delicious. I'm getting hungry again just writing the review, glad we have leftovers. Then came dessert, my wife ordered the Italian Cream Lemon cake and she was very impressed along with a Brandy Ice which was also excellent. I passed on dessert because I was stuffed.
