For those who downvoted this restaurant because of the dated, dark decor or weird relish tray, they obviously have no idea what a real supper club is. Sorrentos is a real supper club. It may not be in Wisconsin, but everything from the decor to the Brandy Ice screams the real deal. They are justifiably famous for their prime rib. My husband's king cut was mammoth. Everyone except for me had the prime rib, and universally raved about the tenderness and flavor. My lemon chicken was also good. Our service was superb. Wish I could remember the name of the friendly young lady who served us, but she was attentive and seemed to genuinely want us to enjoy our experience. This place is a great hidden gem for steak and other terrific meals. I haven't had anything but the prime rib dinner for the last 20 or 30 times I have been there. The baked French onion soup is awesome, the blue cheese is homemade and it is always what I get on my salad. This place is older looking and the crowd is also mostly 55+. I really like this place and will continue to be a regular. The only thing I wish they would change is the wait staff uniforms- they are so dated! If you're this far west of Chicago, almost to DeKalb, Sorrento's is a good dinner alternative. Sorrento's is a large portions, big tables, big families and birthday parties, Italian and American restaurant with a few good surprises. No one in Chicago serves giant pieces of prime rib for $22, like the do here. The food is good and basic, or the locals wouldn't keep coming back. People don't come here for exotic vegetables or the presentation of the desserts. The vegetables are basic and overcooked, and that's just the way it is. But the steaks are good, the shrimp are big, and the desserts are large. Service is good. read more

The portions and the prices are unreal! The food was good, but not great outstanding. I am by no means a prime rib expert, but I thought mine was a on the fatty side. The size of the prime rib was amazing and it came with a side, soup, and a salad! I tried my sister in law's chicken parm and I would order that again in a heartbeat. Everyone raved about the au-gratin potatoes and I thought they were decent, but not even in the same ballpark as Carsons. I went to Sorrento's on the recommendation from someone who is local. The decor reminds me of a banquet hall and is a little dated but still a nice restaurant. I ordered or the specials and decided on steak and a twice baked potato. I prefer my steak well done and it came out pretty good. Sometimes places comprehend burnt=well done but Sorrento's did a nice job. Unfortunatly my twice baked potato was still cold in the center so by the time it was replaced I was half way done with my steak. I will probably go back to give it another try. Outside of the prime rib nothing was good. We started with Calamari that seemed to be out of a bag that you can get at any grocery stores frozen food section. The soup was blah and the mashed potatoes were dry and were literally scooped with an ice cream scooper onto a plate. My husbands ribeye was dry and chewy, he orders it medium rare. We had our company party here last night, it is a bit of a drive for me living in Chicago but was of so worth it as the Steak Lover that I am I had the prime Rib and it was perfect you could of almost cut it with a butter knife, nice and juicy and oh so full of flavor, this was one of if not the best prime rib i have ever eaten and I have had prime rib all over from mom and pop places too Morton's steak house service was great they have a nice room in the basement for private parties and they don't charge to use the room my boss said, makes me sad I didn't go to the dinner last year I truly missed out on a great dinner last year I won't be missing any more after that meal I had the cheese cake it was good think it may have been Eli's but I recommend the chocolate cake it was huge piece and tasty also I tried some, they also have a flaming ice cream they put a piece of ice in brandy then put it on top of ice cream and light I was told it is very good not on the menu that I know of so have to ask for it read more

I've been a part of the Sycamore/Dekalb community since the early nineties. While growing up, Sorrento's was always the best restaurant when considering an upscale and classy meal. The ambiance reminds me of a traditional supper club, and I love the fact that they've been around since the early seventies. Everyone from the area raves about this restaurant, and it's pretty obvious why when you eat here. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable. This is a classy place with an old country feel, and the atmosphere provides an intimate setting. As for the food, be prepared to get a lot of it. Not only do they bring bread and a relish tray (they also bring some amazing cheese spread), but you also receive soup and salad with dinner. We all agreed that it was a nice dinner experience and we really enjoyed our server, Bridget. I ordered the Lake Superior Whitefish. It was a large filet with a butter garlic sauce. While it was a generous portion and obviously fresh, I thought it could have had a bit more flavor. My friends ordered chicken parmesan and a filet with shrimp on the side. Everyone enjoyed their food, but we all thought more seasoning would enhance the flavor; however, this was not much of a drawback. The seasoning was literally the only negative thing I would note, and again, this was really minor. We had a great time, and the food was good. If you're into steak, that filet was delicious! After dinner, we decided to get dessert and a couple of drinks at the bar. the bar has a rustic western feel and the bartender was also very colloquial. He was happy to make some kind of Grasshopper drink for me with icecream. It was amazing and really cleanses the palate. We also had chocolate cake to the 7th power. While I'm not exactly sure what the name means, it was pretty good. I also watched some drinks leave the bar that were lit on fire. anything with fire has to be good, right?? I plan to get that next time! This is a great place to try. You won't be disappointed.While I tend to enjoy Nat's on Maple a little more, this is definitely a close rival and we all agreed we would certainly come again. read more

Although I eat at Sorrento's rather infrequently, it a place that I count on for old school ambience as well as a restaurant with a menu reminiscent of supper clubs of days gone by. Tonight's dinner with a friend, however, was disappointing. We beat the crowd at 4:00, but our server seemed already to be less than welcoming or helpful. I ordered a Grey Goose dirty martini, thinking that it might be a retro drink along the lines of what a real martini might star as at an old school location for drinks in line with their retro atmosphere. Instead, I was served a drink (possibly Grey Goose) in a water glass on the rocks. I hesitated to complain but wasn't given the time to do so anyway, as our server flitted here and there without much attention to our well being. I am not one to usually complain so sucked it up. I craved a dry martini in a martini glass, shaken, not stirred. No such luck. Although I admittedly ordered my $29 prime rib rare, I ended up discreetly spitting out fat and gristle into my napkin instead of enjoying what I previously had enjoyed on occasion as their speciality. Oh, well. Lesson learned. Some good things must come to an end. read more

My wife and I visited for the first time last night. We have passed this place many times and thought we would try for a special occasion. First impressions when we walked in the door was if we should even stay for dinner. It is a dark and very closed in feeling space. But given it has been in business since the 70's we decided to stay. Service here is amazing! So my hats off to the wait staff. The reason for the very low rating is the food. The start you off with what they describe as a relish tray, crackers, bread, cheese spread and butter. The relish tray consists of a few carrots and celery sticks as well as a couple of radishes. The bread was very hard. We ordered the shrimp cocktail appetizer. Shrimp was nice, the cocktail sauce had no flavor. But this was the best part of the whole meal. For dinner my wife had the special for Tuesday night which is a filet and three fried shrimp. I had the ribeye. Dinner comes with soup and salad and choice of potato. We both ordered the baked French onion soup which is an upcharge. She ordered the au gratin potatoes and I had steak fries. The salads came and they are a typical house salad not much to say here other than I think I got the wrong dressing. When our steaks came out they did not bring out my fries at the same time and said they were working on them. In fact we noticed that many tables were served their entrees and were still waiting on their potato. The steaks come with a side of mushrooms. Normally I would be excited by this because most steakhouses would sauté mushrooms with a steak. But these mushrooms looked straight from a can and tasted as if they were not even heated. Steaks were cooked to the right temperature but lacked any flavor or seasoning. After I had eaten about a quarter of my steak my fries finally came. They were not crispy and again and no salt or seasoning. My wife said her au gratin potatoes were flavorless as well. With each of us having a drink with our dinner our meal with tip was over $130.00. While I wanted this to be a great local place where we may be able to go back with family and friends, I am afraid this is a one and done for us. Our new (old) favorite restaurant! Used to go there many years ago, then moved to Sugar Grove. A bit of a drive (1/2 hour), but well worth it! Service is great, food is plentiful and awesome! Where else can you go and start with a glass of Meomi Pinot Noir for only $8. Then to start your meal a lovely relish tray with a great dip, bread, butter and crackers.....then soup AND salad. Your main course comes with a variety of potatoes (scalloped, baked, mashed or fries) OR vegetables. Hubby had full slab of bbq ribs and I had stuffed shrimp, both $18 with ALL of the above! We went to this restaurant for Christmas. It is ok. Food portions are great. I ordered the Prime Rib. IT certainly has a slow motion to the service and the restaurant itself. The place is in the boonies. There is nothing around it. It was could outside, but really hot inside. Very uncomfortable. A bit pricey, but that is given the portions they serve. HOLLY DEAD SLAB OF FAT COW ON A PLATE! Don't even bother looking at anything else on the menu but the prime rib! No fo reals dawg! This place don't joke when it comes to the prime rib! Was not impressed. Our server and service was great which is why there was 2 stars given. We went for Prime Rib night and had lackluster iceberg lettuce salad, and under performing cuts of Prime Rib. Baked potato was good but how can you screw that up, the mashed potatoes my daughter got, were at least partially fake (dehydrated/powdered). Best thing I had was the Brandy Alexander. Worst part was the super strong smell of damp basement where we were sitting. I had to move seats, and it was still SO bad, we put a napkin and menu over the floor vent we sat by. Decor is beyond creepy, kinda like Grandmas house but not in a good way. I'd rather go to Fireside in Sugar Grove. read more

I never write reviews but i felt a moral obligation to do so today. This is the worst place my family and I have ever eaten. If you like Aldi style ravioli's and tortellini covered in Prego sauce, then this is the place for you. My husband had the turkey diner which came with canned vegetables, smothered in gravy. The stench alone from the actual meat made you feel uneasy and unsure of how old this bird really was. Stale bread, stale crackers, stale ambience, and stale air from the older gentleman sitting near us burping out load, I had no other option but to give this place 1 star. The positive aspect of our visit was our waitress was sweet and made sure our food came out quick and our water was cold and refreshing. Everything else was disappointing!!! read more

Incredible "Thanksgiving Dinner" wrapped up to go w/ all the fixins. All the hot items were covered in Saran wrap to stay pipping hot for the long ride home. We had a great meal here this past Sunday evening...nice service and good food. My husband had the highly recommended prime rib...it was huge, tender, and perfectly cooked. I had the strip steak and shrimp special...also very nice. The sautéed mushrooms were a pleasant surprise. We both chose the French onion au gratin soup...good but nothing special, the salad which was good with a nice chunky bleu cheese dressing. My twice baked potato was just okay. Celebrated my wife's birthday yesterday at Sorrentos, because she loves prime rib. We had a table of four and we all ordered prime rib. Critiquing the food, two kinds of soup were tasteless, the relish tray was adequate, the salad was very sparse, the main course was tasteless and tough. I have been in the St. Charles area around 20 years and have frequented this establishment numerous times. This by far was a disappointment....other tidbits, waitress was nice, this may be considered petty, but we noted a birthday on the reservation and made it known to the waitress... no recognition, maybe restaurant policy?? Spending close to $200....certainly not worth it. I will say the Malbec bottle of wine we ordered was very good. read more

Few things that happened today, 7-12-15. -Took about 5 min to be seated when it wasn't busy. -The food took about 10-15 min after the salad due to the waitress dropping the food. -Shortly after we started eating, the waitress brought out a box asking if we are ready to leave. My girlfriend hadn't even half finished her wine yet... This was about 5 min into us starting to eat our entree. -Even if the food could have tasted good, it didn't because of the treatment we got from our waitress. -Waitress asked if we wanted the check then took about 10 min to actually bring the check.
