Real Food! Great Food! Very flexible and delicious!! As everyone else commented, the Guido was excellent, and the Couscous was amazing with a bean salad. The Soup was perfect, hearty and healthy! This place is great! I've eaten at 46/65 downtown Raleigh restaurants and this place is a top choice. The atmosphere is great; a nice quiet location with many food options. Friendly staff. Delicious food. WINNING! I had the Riviera sandwich, suggested by the owner at the counter. (I couldn't decide between at least 5 different items on the menu that I wanted to shovel into my face.) It came with beans and cous cous on the side. Added bonuses!! Regulars were drooling while explaining their favorite sandwiches. Most customers were people who work nearby, and got lunch to go. I also got a coffee, which didn't need anything added to make it freaking delicious. Got it black. What else? Ummm...oh! Cozy atmosphere. One guy was quietly eating and doing a crossword puzzle, two men were a couple of tables over were obviously conducting a job interview. We regularly travel down from DC to visit our daughter in Cary and were lucky to have found this superb café in Raleigh several years ago. We never miss getting a lunch here. Reminds me of a student-run coffee shop at Georgetown University, a wonderful non-commercial atmosphere.....with the extras of having healthy tasty food, interesting artwork, and a friendly conversant owner and staff. Great lunch spot! The owner is French and incredibly friendly and nice. This small cafe was an awesome find, it has a great, authentic feel. There are plenty of vegan / vegetarian options, with many items on the menu being marked as vegan friendly. I tried the Sosta salad (veganized) and it was delicious. Very fresh and light tasting. Fantastic. Great coffee drinks without paying the overblown prices you see at other cafes downtown and of course the ubiquitous chains. Also they've got fantastic, hearty, euro- deli style sandwiches, salads, soups, and sides. They sometimes serve homemade brownies and other deserts too. I can not believe that I didn't know about this place before this year. It's been in downtown Raleigh for over 7 years but they don't advertise. You get a large portion of food for the price (all the sandwiches come with yummy sides too) and the ingredients are really high quality. They're serving "real food" and are still beating most of the chains down there on price. I highly recommend Sosta. It was a great find. The roast beef/gorgonzola sandwich is absolutely amazing and there is a curry chicken salad sandwich that is downright addictive. read more

I work in Miramar, until now pretty much a fine-food wasteland. I may have been the first person to walk into Sosta Cafe, and still have lunch there at least 3 times per week. Why go anywhere else? The food is awesome, home made Italian made with the best and freshest ingredients. Let us not even mention the desserts. I would swear that no matter how much I eat at Sosta, I still lose weight...blame the fresh/healthy ingredients. Oh, and the flavors! The ambiance is also awesome. The owners, Chad and Maria, make you feel as if you are eating at their home. They are that welcoming. I just popped in to Sosta for the first time for lunch. The Riviera - which is pestoed, warmed mozzarella with lettuce, tomato - is sublime. The side salads are amazing, too - an Israeli couscous-style salad and a cannelini-bean salad with tomatoes and herbs. I'm a recent transplant to Raleigh. In my 3 weeks here, I've been on the hunt for great lunch places. Today I hit Sosta. Wow. The sandwich - roast beef on ciabatta with arugula, caramelized onions, and Gorgonzola - was mouth-watering, mind-blowing goodness. And it came with two side salad items of which there was no trace after I scarfed the silly good sandwich. The place reminds me of cafes in Europe, but - whoa - it's in Raleigh. Come hungry. I met my brother for a quick lunch near his office in Downtown Raleigh today. He's a vegan, and I'm an omnivore. We were both beyond pleased with our meals at Sosta. I ordered the sampler. The curried chicken salad reminds me of a recipe I used to use when I taught cooking lessons--one that I absolutely love but that I can't be bothered to recreate when it's just me eating. The focaccia was similarly familiar in a very pleasing way. And while everything on my plate was delicious, the star of the meal was the Israeli couscous, which I know I will be trying in vain to recreate for months since I live across the country. My brother ordered the "This Little Piggy," which he says is the dish he keeps ordering without straying. The speed with which he cleaned his plate speaks for itself! Sosta Cafe is a gem in the heart of Raleigh...When most people love a cup of coffee from the main chain store from Seattle, Sosta's French owner brews the perfect cup everytime and makes eccletic and yummy dishes. The place has a good feel and is one of the least expensive places to enjoy a well made meal without the craziness of downtown and now that the weather is turning nice you can sit outside, but be warned, construction season is upon us, so don't expect a quiet lunch for the next several months.
