wow, I was surprised to come on and see such a low star for this place that was once the store to go to for everything. I purchased a necklace on top of many other things from that visit back in June and wore the necklace for about five weeks before the "gold plated handmade necklace tarnished. while, I love the butterfly, I also found it online for five dollars so that was not handmade and putting it on a cheap necklace with your name on it is genius but not good for business. I did not reach out to the store so I'm not sure how they would handle this, but I wanted to share my experience. read more

I kept going back because I do like their clothes but the staff are absolutely pretentious women who think they are something because they work at a boutique in Westlake, not sure that adds up. As you can see by the constant theme here in the reviews, this is not new, so obviously the owner must be the same. The women next door at Soto house are lovely. I will no longer be spending my time or money at this boutique--from what I hear, boutiques are not doing too well so you may want to hire people who can help the store make money, not run people away. read more

I've been coming to this store for gifts and clothes for myself for the past few years and have always had very good experiences with the staff here. The women who work here are always very helpful and will go the extra mile to help you out. I live an hour away from here, and will drive out here during the holidays to find cute things for my friends and family members. They will wrap up the gift bags for the holidays and they do a beautiful job! I wish they had a store in my community so I could shop at Soto more frequently, but they are definitely worth the trip! read more

I have been buying gifts at this store for a few years now. I don't know why I keep going back. In my opinion, the women that work there are rude and often mean. I purchased a necklace for my daughter for Christmas. It was over $100 and in just two months it was peeling and tarnished. When I went to the store to show the sales people they just looked at me and said "oh sorry, she must have worn it in the water." I told them that a $15 neckace would be ok looking like this, but not $100. They nodded in a very condescending way and just said ok, sorry. I didn't expect a refund but maybe a gift card, a real apology. There are too may cute stores out there to purchase from without this bad business tactic. I work in a field where good business behavior and courtesy matter. It makes people keep coming back. They lost me and anyone I can tell this to. read more

This feels silly, but giving Soto a 1 star review because they do not open at the time their website, location and voicemail state they do. Their hours state they open at 10a, but my experience is they open when they feel like it. A few years back, I waited outside the Sherman Oaks store on two separate occasions for the store to open. Everything states they open at 10a and I waited more than a 1/2 hour each time until I had no choice but to leave. This morning, I visited the Westlake Village location and dealt with the same thing! Finally left after 1/2 hour of waiting. If these locations can't open at 10a as stated, then wouldn't it be smarter to change their open time to a time they can guarantee to be open? Just a busy working mom here trying to run quick errands while taking kids to practice and on the way to work. Very frustrating. read more

I enjoy going to Soto to find new soft and cozy clothes. The atmosphere is really nice, no pushy sales people-just nice ladies who will offer you a room or offer to grab different sizes for ya. It's really pretty chill most days. I like the variety of clothes, jewelry and even shoes there (although I have never bought anything but the comfy clothes and a few bits of cute jewelry! Its a fun place, fgreat super confy shirts and pants...you cant go wrong. It does tend to be a bit more pricey than other shops in the area...but for good choices on statement pieces and comfy clothes it's worth it. Go in, walk around and I bet you will find something that will catch your eye. If you want, walk over next door to the sister store-for home furnishings! Terrible service. Woman was on the phone while I was meant to be checking out. Didn't listen (again, was on the phone) while I described the different gift receipts, asked me to leave (which is fair with covid, but happened after they let in others from outside) but then didn't include all my products. She then followed it up with a ride text indicating how quickly I needed to get back to pick them up before she had to leave her shift. To the owner, this happened on December 16. I went to Soto today to try to use a credit that I've had for over a year. Once again I go in and walk around the entire store. There's two employees working one sitting behind the counter and the other one blocking the counter with the jewelry. As I walk around and try to look at the jewelry after being in the store for about five minutes, I finally get a can I help you with something. When I say just looking, they go back to the conversation and pretend that no one exists in the store. This is not the first , second , third of fourth time I've been in the store when the employees are either eating drinking talking to each other or talking to family members or friends, ignoring someone who comes into the store . A simple hello is not that hard to do or offer a suggestion. At this point I am giving my credit to someone else. read more

This store has the most chic, understated and stylish clothes in Westlake. The accessory & home decor side next store is also amazing. In addition to matching the aesthetic I like, everyone who works here is so helpful and friendly! Every person I have showed this store too becomes a huge fan! Wasn't greeted when I walked into this business today. 0 customer service. Had money to spend, didn't feel welcomed to buy. Lady had her arms crossed, staring me down with a straight face. I used to Live In Westlake for 8 yrs and since I moved away , I miss the clothes in Soto ... they are very comfortable and fit my body style perfect . Most of the brands I can't find anywhere else but this store . I also love how they help you with the clothes and tell you what looks good on . They also have a store off Ventura boulevard that has a different kind of style . Ventura Blvd store has more of a younger mix of clothes . I always thought the people are so friendly that Work here. "Ok" product but when customer service is this lacking, I mean even when four employees on the floor and you have to go in the dressing room yourself and come out with the product on still unnoticed by staff something is wrong for sure!!! I stopped in for the ten minutes it took for my pants altered next door and to buy something at Tradition, also next door where I got immediate service at both, folks in this economy service and price help set you apart and they need the service here, price alone won't cut it. If I wanted bad service I'd go to corporate stores in the mall! I tried to return a sweater that has a hole in it and they refuse to do anything if it's outside of 10 days, even if it's faulty merchandise? And not even store credit? Is this even allowed? Not surprised to see so many other awful reviews. What a disgrace. I must admit... I was a little afraid of coming here because of the comments I've heard about the customer service. Good thing, I like to go in and out without chatting! :P When I came in today, I was immediately greeted from afar by two employees who sat in the back in chairs. One woman (I'm assuming the owner) ran out to take a persona phone call. The young girl who worked there (for only a few months I overheard) was friendly and asked if I needed assistance after about 5 min. It's a smaller shop but it packed with really colorful, trendy cute clothes as well as adorable accessories. The jewelry is unique. I bought a comfy, cute sweater for $39. The store is cute, the clothes are nice and they do have a cute set up. Left buying nothing even though I saw many cute pieces because of the customer service. The women there are stuck up and won't talk to you, greet you, or offer any help. As a white female I still felt uncomfortable in there because they were looking at me like I was about to stuff my bag and run. I was in the store for around 10 minutes and not one word was spoken to me even though they were walking around and eye balling me. I was a devotee of Soto for a long time. I used to live in Calabasas and loved going to the shop on Topanga for clothing and jewelry. Three years ago, I moved to WLV and began visiting the shop here in Westlake. I was in the shop a little over a year ago and found a cute top, but the size was wrong. I politely asked if they might possibly have it in a medium at the Topanga store. The woman standing behind the counter, who was not busy and not even discussing business, but rather was chatting to another person behind the counter said, "we might; but I don't want to bother calling if you aren't serious about buying it." I was totally shocked. I put the shirt back and literally said, "never mind; I wouldn't want you to put yourself out." And I walked out. As I exited the store another client, who had just witnessed the whole encounter walked up to me, seeing I was clearly upset, and said, "I can't believe she said that to you!" I told the kind woman it no longer mattered as I would never return, as my business was not appreciated or needed. True to my word, I have never gone back. I told my best friend what happened and she has never gone in again either. This was so rude, unprofessional and unkind. I had never experienced anything but welcome, kindness and support from the Topanga store. read more

I walked in to the Westlake Village location on Monday 7/20/15. It was 5:46 when I walked in. The glass front window to the right says that it is open until 6 pm. I walked in needing to quickly get a dress or a top and pants I could wear to an event I had in the area. The first thing this woman says to me is that I have five minutes. Five minutes until she closes the register. I asked her if she closes at 6, and she repeated that she needed to close the register in five minutes so she could be out of there by six. This woman was wearing a black top with glasses and had dark hair. There was another woman just standing in the back with blonde hair and a blue pattern dress. They could either be management and owner or employee. Either way, she was incredibly rude and for that I will not be returning, ever. You're in the customer service business. You provide a service of selling a product to the public, in this case, clothing. I don't care if you would prefer to get off of work at 6:00. Your advertised hours of operation are until 6. I am also in the customer service industry. I don't get to close down my business just because I'm not feeling it that night. If I walk in to your business fourteen minutes before your advertised time of closing that means I have that much time to purchase items. Why would you cut your business short of sales? Realistically, I would have been out of there in ten minutes anyways. But because of her TERRIBLE attitude, I turned around, walked out, and went to another boutique in the area. Came with a friend who wanted to shop there and needed opinions. There was a blonde woman folding clothes and another woman working in the back but we were the only customers in the store. She looked up at us, completely ignored our presence and continued folding clothes. We looked for clothes in the racks and then tried to find a dressing room while STILL BEING IGNORED by the women who weren't even busy at all. It was so clear that not one single person there had any consideration for any customers at all. It was so insulting. What I was most put off by was the fact that they pick and choose who they talk to in the store. It seems like they favor anyone who looks like they're rich and live in Westlake which totally makes everyone else feel completely useless. When I was waiting outside the dressing room for my friend they instantly greeted a woman who walked in the store (and was clearly from money). It became clear that the women didn't know each other at all, it was just based off of looks and perception about wealth, etc. The clothes are ok- very trendy and poorly made and not worth the steep price tag. Even if the clothes were well made I would still not be convinced to buy anything due to the horrible attitude and customer service of the workers. Don't give these people your business- you'd have better luck at Forever 21 where the clothes are more reasonably priced and the service is much much better. read more

I online ordered two camisoles on 9/20/2011. I live in Flagstaff, AZ, and after I hadn't seen my order in over 2 weeks I called my credit card company to dispute the charge only after trying to call Soto Boutique off and on for days. No answer. No voice mail. I even sent e-mails. Two days after I disputed the charge, my order showed up from Southern California. Since I'm honest and on top of my sh**, I returned the two camisoles but included a detailed letter with the returned items, stating I wanted to purchase the camisoles but in the long length. On 10/18/2011, I got this response in my inbox: "Hi Catherine. We received your return and your note. I'm sorry about the confusion -- your calls got lost in the system, and UPS has apparently not been sending out shipping confirmations like they're supposed to. We also never got a notice of your disputing the charge, and, looking at our system, we have no record that any money was ever returned to you. To try to make up for your inconvenience, we will ship you 2 long tanks to replace the short ones you returned, with no extra charge and, of course, free shipping. I hope that helps make up for the mixup. Please feel free to email me directly if you have any other issues or questions. I don't know what people are complaining about... I came today for the first time and recieved great customer service. Just because they don't hound you doesn't mean they are rude. The sales lady's really helped me vamp up my look. They have a great selection of adorable clothes for really reasonable prices ( $30-$50). I will keep coming back. One thing to say to some of the reviews below - They sell knock of pieces of higher end clothing so when you buy something for 30.00 it's not going to last forever. So surprised by these negative reviews! I have been shopping here for a few years and I've always enjoyed it. It's sort of my secret weapon for thoughtful birthday gifts, cute cards and jewelry, inexpensive (but chi-chi-looking) handbags and hats, and fun retail therapy. I kind of appreciate the hands-off approach of the employees. They won't go out of their way to be all over you as you shop, but they are helpful with questions and sizes. Great selection and prices. Best part: they carry extremely convincing knock-offs of the current designer bags that are in season. (Saw a Chloe bag at Barney's I fell in love with last week - didn't want it for $1800 - and they had the replica here for $140). Their clothing selection is great and they carry a lot of "leather alternative" jackets that look like real leather but aren't nearly as heavy. It was my first time in the store today - I will definitely be back! Another positive: friendly employees that are not pushy.
