I made a reservation through Yelp but when we arrived they told us it was open seating. We arrived around sunset time and it looked so pretty. We didn't know but every Wednesday they have live music which definitely made the night vibes even better. We started out with 2 drinks: Reap what you sow (didn't have the special jars) and Smoking gun (but without the trick). Although a little disappointed the drinks tasted so good! For food we ordered Nopales Fritas which is fried nopales and fried yucca (yucca is similar to a potato) which was delicious! And also had their Mother's Day special: Filet mignon medallions, pepita hummus, and prosciutto wrapped asparagus. Omg so good! As the night went on we ordered the Sotol So Good (nice and sweet), Forbidden Dance w Mango (spicy sweet kick), and the Mesquite Old Fashioned (good ol' strong). I think out of all the drinks the Forbidden Dance was my favorite! We couldn't leave without trying their desserts. We had both: Forbidden Rice Pudding (my fav, sweet but not too sweet) and Meyer Lemon Tart (delicious and really sweet). Our bartender Steven was super nice and attentive. Our bill for 4 was 240$. The food was mediocre at best. Very flavorless. Drinks that were supposed to be specialty were missing the specialty pieces per the water and were weak. Giving it 2 stars because the location alone is worth 2 stars. Stopped in here with my girlfriends at 11pm on a Saturday night. The bar was so bright you would think it was 11am. We didn't stay even for a drink. Unfortunate that because the lights were so bright you could not even see the lights of downtown Gilbert. Have your management team read up on the importance of lighting in a bar. It's what will make or break your business. Good lighting brings in more women. And well, women bring in more men. read more

Before heading there we called to find out what the last call was which we were advise it was 12:30am. We quickly headed over there and arrived at 11:40pm just to be told they had last call already and were closing. When we brought out that phone call to the staff the manager approached super rudely and was condescending as she walked us to the exit to leave. I made a reservation 5 or 6 days in advance for 4 people on a Friday at 530. The day before, I asked to add two people to the reservation, and keep the same time. The host confirmed they could accommodate this. An hour and a half before our reservation, I get a call they cannot accommodate us and ask us to move our reservation. I told them we can't, as we're driving up from Tucson. Complete waste of time even trying to get them to work with me. I was willing to move the time up if they would give us more than an hour and a half (that's their table limit I guess?), because two of the guests wouldn't be on time if I moved the time to accommodate the RESTAURANT. They refused that as well. We ended up going somewhere else that had better reviews and was more flexible. I ignored the bad reviews when I made the reservation and I learned my lesson the hard way. This is a great downtown Gilbert option. They have a great indoor/outdoor bar with mostly outdoor seating to dine. A long railing follows the outdoor building perimeter's with seating all along the rail so you can overlook downtown Gilbert and enjoy a fabulous sunset. There is very limited seating for indoor dining unless you want to eat at the bar. Although we came in personally to make a reservation, somehow it got lost , but we were quickly accommodated with a great table. Everyone is quick to please and make your experience a happy memory. Our server Z, seem quite knowledgeable regarding the restaurant overall and the menu. She was perfectly attentive, friendly, and in my opinion did a great job. Our food was wonderfully prepared and the menu gave us some different options from a typical restaurant....A really nice option for downtown! read more

Went in for brunch Sunday. Pretty empty compared to other places on the Main Street that had lines out the door. They had a $5 mimosa special that the staff didn't know about but they honored it anyway since it was on their social media. My wife and i were visiting family this week. I was drawn to this restaurant because of the sotol, which i am starting to like a lot though it is not to everyone's taste. Mary had a Smoking Gun, Push Button (?), and Fry Bread. I had the premium mezcal flight, a shot of Santo Cuviso sotol, and the burger. Everything was tasty and interesting. Once again, hate to be that guy but I loved this place up until ole buddy with the dreads and funky hat started there. I went there twice last week, once with my girlfriend and the next night with a big group of friends and both nights that dude (don't even know his name) absolutely sucked. He walks around like he absolutely hates his life. Talks with the personality of an earlobe and he's rude as hell. Tried to make small talk with him just to see if maybe he was having a rough day and when I asked him if he enjoyed working there, his response was "well I'm not a millionaire so not really"... like c'mon bro just pretend . I accidentally dropped a glass (we had one drink each, so no we were not drunk) and the glass was completely empty and I tried cleaning it up myself and he walks over and says "yeah this isn't champs" then proceeds to say he's done serving us for the night, after we had ordered one drink each and been there for about 20 minutes. The first night I went with my gf I ordered a drink that I ended up hating and my waitress there the first night (unsure of her name unfortunately, blonde shorter girl) was nice enough to swap it out for me even though I never asked. She could tell I didn't like it and she offered to replace it with something that I would and even helped me narrow down what I would want... then a few minutes later, pipsqueak comes over and starts asking me why she replaced it and if something was wrong with it as if he was trying to get her in trouble. Either way... both experiences I had with this dude were absolutely horrible and it sucks because I've had nothing but cool waitresses and waiters every single time I've been there which is often as I live very close to DT Gilbert. I don't want any response from the manager or owner or whatever. I just simply ask that you guys look into this dude because for lack of other words... he sucks. We visited Sotol once and wanted to come back to specifically try the drinks/appetizers that we originally wanted to try on our first visit (but were dissuaded to order by our waitress as she personally didn't care for them) and had reservations weeks ago with the request to sit at the exterior seats. We arrived and couldn't find anyone to check us in downstairs like our first visit. After going back upstairs and hanging around for awhile, someone finally asked if we could be helped and our reservation info was given. He offered the worst table in the place farthest away from our requested seats in our reservation, so we opted out and left. Fantastic views!!! I'd go again just for the ambiance. But, the drinks are worth the trip too! We tried a few different drinks tonight and enjoyed the originality and depth of each of them. I had the pleasure of visiting the first rooftop bar in Gilbert when it first opened. I sat at the bar and the service was impeccable. My friend and I ordered a few plates to share. Let me start off with my absolute favorite which was the AZ stew. If you like spice, I highly recommend! I also loved the homegrown salad. We ordered the Apache soup and the nopales too. They were good as well and were also my friends two favorite dishes. I've never tried nopales and was kind of hesitant, but when the bartender gave me a better description on what it was, I tried it and I will be ordering this first when I go back! Next....the ambiance, music choice, and view is absolutely beautiful! I'm happy they have heaters too. I don't like to be cold so this was great! Finally...the drinks! I am a sucker for an old fashioned. The mesquite old fashioned was my favorite so far...Highly recommend! My friend got the don't push the button drink. The bartender explained how it worked and it was fun. It enhanced the drink so much more and we enjoyed it very much. If you like sweet, try it! The last drink I got was called the smoking gun. This is definitely a sipper. The presentation with the bubble was awesome! My overall experience was excellent. I'm excited to go back. The bad reviews I've read on here are completely different from my experience. I can only image the reservation process to be annoying. Especially with places only running at a max of 50% capacity and within such an intimate place. Fortunately, I didn't have to deal with this problem since there was only two of us. The price average here is about $13-$16 per drink and about $16-$20 for the food. If you don't want to pay that much for drinks or food, go to Champs! Our waiter was pleasant and the cocktails were good. I had one and my friend tried two. We ordered an appetizer, avocado boats, and we sat for 3 hours catching up. The appetizer was small, cold and the avocado was hard and it just wasn't good. Our drinks were good but very pricy and small. Our bill was almost $70 for 3 cocktails and a small appetizer.
