Maybe this place should stick to brunch only...? Bread and Oil: The bread was dry and inedible on its own. The dipping oil was OK - fairly well spiced and definitely unusual as it had tomato sauce in it. Crostini Appetizer: I was not impressed with any of the four crostinis, each bearing different toppings. The roasted pepper and mushroom topping was probably the best, but not something I'd want to get again. "Special" Portobello stuffed Ravioli: I ordered the special of the night, which was supposed to be portobello stuffed ravioli in tomato sauce. When the order arrived, I wondered if I'd been confused and somehow misunderstood what the waitress told me. I ended up with spinach stuffed ravioli in tomato sauce sprinkled with ricotta cheese. It was very boring and definitely not something I'd typically order. It turns out that the kitchen was out of the special and didn't bother to inform our waitress (who was therefore unable to inform us). Pollo Portobello: This was Justin's order. It was supposed to be chicken with a creamy sauce and portobello mushrooms. To me, the sauce tasted sweeter than it ought to and waxy. The mushrooms were definitely not portobello - they were way too small and light in color. Also, the dish was supposed to be served with garlic mashed potatoes. When the plate arrived, the side was fried potatoes... We asked the waitress about this and she said they were out of garlic mashed potatoes and she apologized for not telling us. Chocolate desert: To make up for the flubs on their part, they gave us a free Chocolate Soufflé. The cake was served with vanilla ice cream, whipped cream, and (I believe) raspberry coulis. It was pretty tasty. The cake was a bit dry, but combining it with the vanilla ice cream and whipped cream made for a satisfying flavor combination. Great dining experience in a really cool area. I went with 12 friends on a Saturday afternoon before we headed over to Royal Palms Shuffleboard (20 minute walk by the way). I walked in and was a little thrown off because they told me I didn't have a reservation even though I had just called to confirm that morning. Nevertheless they set up a long table for us by the window, and we were able to get seated pretty quickly after everyone got there. They're pretty strict about that by the way - you need your whole party there before they even think about seating you. The brunch special is actually out of this world. I'm used to Manhattan bottomless where it's a little more expensive and they try to get you out of there pretty quickly. not at this place - they let you drink as long as you're eating (so eat slowly!) and they're amazing with refills. You can choose between champagne, mimosas, and bloody Marys, and they give you this unreal unlimited poundcake as well! They got our drink and food orders pretty quickly, and then I'm not kidding you when I say they had the food out within 15 minutes. Great service on one hand, but on the other we didn't really even finish our first drink before the food came out. I would have liked a little less rushed of an experience. I got the eggs florentine which was pretty solid but nothing crazy. The potato pancakes they give you on the side though are pretty unreal. My friends ordered some pasta dishes, and they were decent portions and tasted great! Went with two friends for the all you can drink brunch. We made a reservation but I would not trust them with reservation because although it was clearly in their book, they had not clearly not reserved a table for us. I got the eggs Salmone, which was decent. They say it is served with latkes, but as a Jew I can tell you they are just lukewarm soggy hash browns. The pound cake is nice, it is served free with the meal. What they dont tell you when you walk in is that with the unlimited mimosas, bloody marys, and champagne, you must pick one drink and you can only switch once. So choose your drink wisely. I had a sip of my friend's mimosa and it was pretty good. The bloody marry that I had, on the other hand was really hard to drink. There were chucks of garlic (?) that made it very hard to drink and there was little to no alcohol in it. Lastly, the bathroom was really disgusting, with water all over the floor and a really bad smell. I found this place on Yelp and decided to try it out for brunch on Sunday with a large group. There were 8 of us, and we called about an hour before coming in to see if we could get a reservation. Not a problem at all and when we arrived, a few people at what would be our table were just finishing up (also not a problem), so the waiter offered us each a glass of champagne while we waited. A great first start, and things only got better from there. Our table was met with baskets of bread and pound cake which was simply delicious. The wait staff was super attentive and extremely friendly, making sure that our glasses were always full. Our food arrived quickly after we ordered and everyone was more than pleased. I had the poached eggs over portobello mushrooms with spinach and the eggs were done perfectly. Everything tasted amazing. The atmosphere was great. The food was terrific. The service was outstanding. And the price was amazing. $13.95 for unlimited champagne, brunch entree, and unlimited pound cake and bread. From the moment I arrived, I should have taken the cue that this was not going to be a pleasurable experience. The host/manager or whoever he was, immediately announced to me that they only seat full parties (I was waiting for my friend). No problem - my friend was due to arrive shortly. The host then said "When is your friend getting here"? and as I saw my friend approaching the door, the host began to walk to a table with two menus before my friend opened the door of the restaurant. For reals? The place was half empty. My friend and I both enjoyed our entrees - he had the salmon eggs benedict and I ordered the frittata although I don't remember requesting that it arrive cold. I didn't feel like sending it back. On the plus side, our waiter was very accommodating throughout the meal. Don't be fooled by the unlimited bloody marys/mimosas. While the bloody mary was delicious, I think they neglected to add vodka. My friend and I both had a few and felt the same way. Plates were quickly cleared (I was still eating) and the dessert menus were brought over. When it was evident that we were not ordering dessert, the check was quickly brought to our table. Again, there were still empty tables in the restaurant at this point. I felt completely rushed from the moment I walked through the door till the moment we left. I get it - I'm sure there are people that hang around all afternoon drinking the virgin bloody marys, but with so many restaurants to choose from in the neighborhood, I will neither return to this one nor recommend it to anyone. Disrespectful, rude, and just horrible. 5 friends and I went to brunch on a Saturday and we were made very uncomfortable during our experience -- the waiter harassed us relentlessly while we waited for the last person to arrive. Almost $70 for one person for flavorless food served to you by slimy, huckster-ish staff. Some of the food tastes canned or frozen (do NOT get the tiramasu, or anything with roasted red peppers - unless you like canned, pre-made frozen food and/or Hershey's chocolate sauce). I find it really disappointing to pay top dollar in what is really a neighborhood joint just to get normal, not especially skilled, food. I mean, maybe I got the wrong things (woulda liked to see how they did a risotto), but what I got was bland, bland, bland. My girl Koku K. invited me here for brunch. I live in Washington, DC and we don't have any unlimited drink brunch options that are this cheap. Sotto Voce is in Park Slope and is pretty small. They really get the brunch concept has they have breakfast brunch classics as well as pasta dishes. I had the french toast that is made using a very thick Challa bread and it was very good. Just about everyone in our group cleaned their plates. Drinks included in your meal are mimoas, sparkling wine and bloody Mary's. After having one drink your meal is worth it. read more

Our installment of the group coming from Manhattan opted to cab over from Atlantic Pacific Station (since we were already running late for our 1:30 pm boozy brunch.) Of all of the intersections in Brooklyn this is one where you DO actually have a good chance of catching a cab. The competence of said cabbie remains to be said. 9/10 times I have had horrific Brooklyn cab encounters... this poor guy said it was his 3rd day on the job, well he could have been lying. With the crosstreets [7th Ave btwn 2nd and 3rd] provided to him upon immediate entry into cab and the name of restaurant as well he proceeded to drive us several minutes in no particular direction at all before I asked him, "Are we going the correct way?" He then said, "I dont know can you tell me how to get there?" Then I pointed to his GPS and said, "Would you mind putting it into there please? I have the exact address." A few more turns, 10 minutes stuck behind a snow plow truck OoOoOo on a quiet brownstoned back street oOoOoO and low and behold the entire group in the cab says, "Wow that intersection over there looks so much like the intersection that we initally caught this cab at!!!" Oh and it was. GRRRREEEEEAAAT. Groan. My smartphone decides at this point it is no longer in a coma and confirms we are on course for Sotto Voce. Well no worries we were the first people in our party of 8 to make it there! It had been a late night for most of us..... the lovely staff were well aware of our reservation and were putting together the tables upon our arrival. We were given mimosa's bar side as we waited for the table and rest of our group. I'll drink to that! And I did.... The staff was so friendly and willing to keep the drinks coming, then at one's request to start pouring us straight champagne, giving my one friend every single liquid choice on the menu and by the end of it leaving a full champagne on the table. Yeah they aim to please and its looking pretty obvi we aim to booze. No one raved about their food. whatsoever. hmm... yet no one really complained. I was very happy with my Salmon, Onions, Tomato and Capers with a wedge of lemon and old world dried bread slices. The complimentary basket of bread and stale-ish pound cake was so incredibly dull but kinda necessary with the beverages. Arriving at JFK from London on a rainy Friday night, I got stranded with no cell phone or U.S. currency when the last connecting flight to North Carolina was canceled. I was booked on a flight the next afternoon and left to fend for myself for 18 hours in the city. A friend in Park Slope left me the key to her place, and after trudging up 4th St. in the rain with a bunch of luggage, I crashed for the night. The next morning, taking pity on my jet lag and ignorance of the neighborhood, my friend's housemate invited me to breakfast and I gratefully accepted. He suggested Sotto Voce, since it was right down the street and was known to have great brunch. We arrived just before they were ready to open, but they gave us a table anyway, a small one inside but just next to the patio. Friday night's rain had gone and left a cool gray sky, so the outside walls were opened wide. After the night I'd had, I couldn't pass up a bottomless mimosa when our friendly*, attractive waiter offered it, but I had a more difficult time choosing what to eat, since everything on the menu sounded too delicious to be so reasonably priced. I finally settled on eggs florentine and was quite pleased with my decision. For awhile we were the only people in the restaurant, and I can't think of a more relaxing way to have spent a Saturday morning than brunching lazily in Brooklyn. It was the perfect intermission in what became perhaps the longest two days of my life when my second flight was delayed another 7 hours. I've pledged to never again set foot in JFK, but I guarantee I'll be back to Sotto Voce some day. *When I say friendly, I mean it. I took my girlfriend here to celebrate her promotion. The wait staff was very inviting and let us choose our table. Our server recommended a Sicilian wine that paired beautifully with our meal; he of course let us taste it before we bought the bottle. You'd be surprised how many servers neglect that very important step. We ordered the caprese salad. The buffalo mozzarella was so fresh; the pesto was out of this world and the tomatoes tasted as though they had been picked only a few hours before. Something so simple made so well! For our entrees we ordered the rigatoni Siciliana and the chicken Francese. I have to say the siciliana blew me away. There was such a perfect balance of the sweetness from the eggplant and the herby basil I thought I was going to have a mouth orgasm. I'm a girl who likes to eat and I'm not an easy sell! The francese was just what you'd expect from a chicken francese, but that pasta was life changing. It was topped with buffalo mozzarella which was a great texture balance to our al dente rigatoni. Dessert we had the special: cannoli made to order--meaning they made the cannoli filling same day and filled the shell to order so it wouldn't get soggy! Those were FRESH! Our server gave us complimentary gelato. Our coffee was freshly brewed for us! I grew up on Italian coffee after meals; it was like going home. Everything from the coffee to complimentary gelato was simply incredible. To top it all off our server gave us complimentary cordials with our bill! This was an excellent meal and they made our evening so special. When My girlfriend and I left her exact words to me were "thank you for such a special evening and such a lovely dinner." The debate over Easter Brunch went on for a week amongst friends as we tried to get everyone together in one location at the same time. Much to the annoyance of my friends from Queens and 20 or so emails later, we finally decided on Sotto Voce for brunch. We didn't want to drop lots of money on a big Easter brunch in the city, plus most places were booked for large parties. This place was great. Lots of breakfast items to choose from especially if you're a poached eggs fan since they probably had every possible version of eggs benedict possible. Unlimited drinks (mimosa, champagne, bloody mary's, screw drivers, bellinis). AND you can change it up for every drink unlike some places. The staff was on top of it with getting us drunk, err providing refills really quickly. I've been here before for other smaller brunches, but I was especially pleased with how they were with our huge party on a big brunching holiday. My girlfriend and I saw this restaurant on the way to Applewood the other day, and planned to give it a try the very next day after viewing the menu. We ordered the carpaccio, where the beef was sliced too thick, and the parmesan scarce. Our main entree was a pasta dish with fusilli, smoked salmon, and a pink sauce. It was decent, but the salmon tasted a little funky. We also ordered the apple pie, which was absolutely horrible. Our waiter came by and asked if we liked it, and we had to tell her that it wasn't edible, and that it didn't taste like any apple pie we have ever tried. She said it was Italian style whatever that is. Her service cannot be faulted though, since she took away the pie and came back with a traditional American style apple pie that they just happened to have that day. I hate to admit it, but on the way home from the subway I had to hightail it to the apartment since the food was not agreeing with me. This Place was amazing. I never expected to find a restaurant like this in Brooklyn...even in Park Slope. I would use the word quaint to describe the size of this restaurant rather than small. The size did not detract, but rather complimented the charming atmosphere. The food was delicious and at prices you could never find in a restaurant of this caliber Manhattan. Three of us dined there in the evening. We had an appetizer, a bottle of wine, 3 main courses and 3 desserts for under 75 dollars total. And the food was superb. The staff was very friendly. At least 3 people greeted us as we entered, and about four said goodnight to as we left. Our waitress was pleasant and very knowledgeable about the menu and wine list. Overall I found the staff to be overly attentive. I noticed that at times staff would stand in the dining room waiting to be signaled by a customer in need rather than walking around all of the time. This made it a bit awkward when I would accidentally make eye contact while looking at the decor. Then have to explain that I was not calling them over. This happened at least three times with three different members of the staff. I think I would have found this more awkward if I was alone. But considering how much I have inattentive servers, I cannot say that this was a negative at all. I have not been for brunch but if I ever find myself in Brooklyn at that time I would certainly give it a try. read more

Hard to describe how appalling it was but tasted like garbage and service forgot everything in the meal, even with reminders. Came here a couple of weeks ago with my sister. The decor is cute and very Brooklyn brunch friendly. The service was good, though, comically, our server accidentally added an extra number to our bill, raising it from 30 something to 300 something. They fixed it really quickly when it was brought to their attention, so no big deal. Unfortunately, the food, while not bad at all, was nothing really special. I had a eggs benedict type dish but instead of english muffins had portabella mushrooms. It was a little salty for me, though the home fries were pretty good. My sister was pretty underwhelmed by her French toast. I do like the idea of their unlimited poundcake, though to be perfectly honest, the poudcake isn't really all that special. Not satisfying for a skimpy lunch for 15.95 plus tax plus tip probably cost more to eat there now. We went back for brunch/lunch yesterday and it was truly atrocious. Horrible! The service was appalling. The girl shoved two menus as us (without a word), return 10 minutes later (her only statement was: "what do you want") and never returned again. It took nearly a half an hour for our food to come, and when it arrived it was nearly inedible. We had to ask twice for the bill. The place was also in chaos - food on the floor, etc. Yikes! So I came here for brunch because a) it's down the street from my apt. b) because I thought it was brunch with unlimited mimosas/bloody marys for 12.95 Unfortunately, it turned out to be $13.95, and kind of not completely worth it. I liked my smoked salmon plate-- the 'italian' bread that it came with turned out to be shockingly tasty with cream cheese and all the trimmings. However, my boyfriend ordered a basic frittata that was just not especially good. Knowing that down on Union we can get a much better meal for just a buck more at Scottodito sort of took the fun out of it. Overall, not bad, but just not good. read more

This is my favorite regular place to go. I come here at least twice a month and I am treated like gold!! They know how to provide great service for their regulars! We went to Sottovoce for Sunday brunch and left with confused feelings. As people who work in the restaurant business, we were surprised seeing a 10-11 years old girl taking tables. At first, we thought she was just helping her family but it turned out that she was our waitress. I don't feel comfortable judging an 11 years old kid's service and didn't want to write about it, but it looks like somebody should remind them that the restaurant business is about the experience, not just feeding people. And we felt bad seeing the next table who were taken care of a professional waiter who had a nice conversation with them, while we just gave the order, ate the food and left. Plus, she brought our silvers with her bare hands, but again I don't think it's appropriate to judge a kid's service. read more

I was only here once - for the best friend's birthday dinner - but it was solid food. It was weird because I ordered a pasta dish like most of my friends, but it looked much smaller than all of theirs. The salad even looked bigger than my dish. On vacation to new York and this place was recommended. Turns out it was a great experience. The food was between $10-$20 per person with plenty of options in the $15 range. For the price it was a reasonable amount of food, it was enough to fill me up and the quality was surprisingly good for such a small place. They gave us a bread bowl at the beginning with olive oil and tomato with seasoning mixture to put on top, which I absolutely love olive oil so I absolutely loved the dish. I ordered the fish special for the day and it was excellent, can't remember what the fish was but it was a bit mushy for my taste. Seasoning was excellent though. The staff were decent. They made me feel welcomed and didn't try to join in on our dinner time. They were a bit slow to keep our glasses full but did a decent job. It was also a bit cramped but then again it was a small restaurant in new York so kind of expected. We ordered from the lunch menu and I was surprised how small the portions were for the price. $13 for penne a la vodka from the regular menu. We dined in sotto voce again last Saturday night and the place was packed. As soon as we were seated, our server let us know that the food was gonna take time since the kitchen was busy. We understood it for a busy saturday night and said no rush. The food turned out as good as always. Was shooting for a nice Sunday brunch, round 1pm. Unfortunately, a member of our party had to go into the city in an hour. So we were not hopefuly. LUCKILY, there was no wait. and the pound cake. Oh, the sweet, sweet, free pound cake. And mimosa/bloody mary... really it doesnt make sense. Then about its 17 bucks a person. But yeah. Its unlimited cake and booze (although they only got around to 2 rounds for us)! The food you get to pick from is about 20 choices. Which seems like a ton.. but considering a handful are variations of eggs benedict, and a couple are pastas, its not really that overwhelming. But lots of them looked good. Unfortunately for me.... I consider a poached egg the most important part of a brunch. So I got the benedict with portabello mushroom. Flavor was excellent... but when i poked that egg... NOTHING! I was actually looking forward to hedonistically dredging my unlimited pound cake in glistening yolk. But that didnt happen. And the other two peeps at my table with poached eggs had the same problem. It's a damn shame. That's not to say I wouldnt go back.. I mean booze and cake, for god's sake. 1st time at Soto Voce was decent so I decided to go back a few months later. 2nd time made sure I'd never return. Asked for 2 coffees for my friend and I...and was given one. I had to ask the waiter several times for another coffee. This became the theme of the entire experience- asking for things repeatedly. Our food came out a little too fast (if you know what I mean). It made us look at each other with concern. Asked repeatedly for ketchup Asked repeatedly for coffee refill to which the waiter replied "I'm sorry I couldnt make out your sign language from across the room". Hmmm...we'll maybe if you checked on our table once in a while I wouldnt have to throw up flares to get your attention. Asked repeatedly for mimosa refills only to be told "we ran out of champagne". I heard the woman at the table next to me ask 6 times for a glass of water and kept saying "i have medication to take". All the while, there was obvious bickering going on between the waitstaff and the bus boys/runners. Will not return. read more
