Review number 500! I was thinking of doing something sentimental, but shrugs shoulders. I really needed to tear this restaurant to shreds a little after my brunch here this weekend. It has been bothering me over the past few hours and is screaming at me to get typed out. I love boozey brunches. I love unlimited boozey brunches and actually go out of my way to find decent ones. Well, whatever. I've been here once years and years and years ago. Probably like 5 when I lived closer to here with a roommate. Somehow I remember ordering their Challah French Toast and being impressed with it. I had no idea in my young child-like mind at the time what the hell an unlimited NY brunch even was. So I was astonished and flabbergasted that they kept refilling our glasses with mimosa. I was happy. Fast-forward 5 plus years later. I'm now almost 30. I know the difference between crappy food and good food. Alcoholic mimosas and drinks made with mostly juice. $17.95 for unlimited Mimosa, Champagne, and/or bloody mary, coffee, and pound cake is not a bad deal at all. I even was allowed to sample all three of them eventually. The drinks: Don't get the bloody mary unless you are partial to clamato juice. (Clam & tomato juice, yes, that is a thing). Don't get the mimosa if you don't like mostly orange juice with a splash of champagne. Get the sparkling prosecco that is filling in for the champagne. Things about the drinks that annoyed me: waiters would constantly refill other tables near, around, behind us. Not really our table. There were really pretty people next to us that kept getting a lot of attention. Lol. I think my friend raised his finger or his glass at one point and they seemed annoyed with that and kind of refused to refill our glasses. The food: That unlimited pound cake is not unlimited. Which is a damn SHAME. Mostly because our meals were ridiculously small. If I'm paying $20 for brunch with 5 plus drinks I'm hopefully assuming that there will at least be something there that covers at least half of the plate so that customers don't leave vomiting on each other. That's a gross exaggeration. I hold my liquor well, I wouldn't be as annoyed with feeling rushed out of the place after a little over an hour if I didn't. Anyway, the pound cake was pretty good and they offer even grape jelly from the little packets to go to town on. My friend asked if we could get a second and the waiter said no. Entrees: I had the Eggs Salmone: Bascially an eggs benedict with smoked salmon on top of an english muffin. The salmon tasted fine. Which I'm always skeptical over at restaurants. But the hollandaise was a hot mess. It was gooey and way too thick. Almost unappetizing even though I still ate it. The potatoes and peppers with caramelized onions on the side were a sad joke. It tasted fine, was kind of luke warm, but was like a scattering of something that they decided to just decorate the plate with. My friend ordered the Frittata Contadina: An open faced omelette with again roasted peppers, mushrooms, potatoes, and onions. This was the world's saddest frittata. If this is supposed to be like an omelette, it was thinner than a crepe, not fluffy, over-cooked tasting and bland as hell. Also, it had the same absent minded scattering of a few potatoes in the corner of the plate. We tried each other's dishes. He liked his better than mine which at this point sounds kind of ludacris. Since there wasn't much on our plates, we finished our meals pretty quickly and they asked us if we wanted desert, while not refilling our drinks. Not offering coffee either after we declined the menu. My friend finally asked again if he could have another mimosa and instead they bring us the check. It was kind of weird and obnoxious. My friends and I came for brunch on a Sunday at 1pm. Two of us were there first, but we were waiting on a third, and they let us sit at our table, but couldn't order until the third person came. They offer a bottomless brunch for $18.95 per person, and the cocktails will continue coming as long as you're still eating. I ordered the contadina omelette, and my friends ordered the pancakes which comes with fresh fruit on the side, and the salmon eggs Benedict. On the side with each entree they serve you latkes, which were soooooo good, I wanted more of them! Our food came out to the table in about 15 minutes, and tasted very fresh and tasty, we all enjoyed our meals. The bottomless brunch is what sold me to come here, but I would definitely come back again, maybe for dinner next time. read more

I'll preface this review with the fact that we were a group of 12 the night before a half marathon. Can you say carb loading?? What first struck me as odd and perhaps a bad omen was the fact that we were able to secure a reservation for 12 at an Italian restaurant on such a night. Let this be a lesson... there's a reason they weren't busy. Food was subpar, lacking flavor and any authenticity. The second star is because the waiter did a pretty decent job serving a group that size. I can't recommend this spot in good conscience. Great find! Honestly, my only requirements were that the food be at least decent, and there be an unlimited mimosas/champagne type of dealy. As it turns out---the food was excellent, the service was friendly, and they also include unlimited pound cake. :) :) All of this for only $11.95!! I didn't expect to find anything like this in Brooklyn, and thought I'd be headed out to the city for brunch yet again. I'll definitely be back; hell I'd go again today if I didn't have a few errands to run! I made reservations, but the weather was pretty terrible yesterday morning, so we wouldn't have had to wait anyway. It's a cute little date spot, and I'd recommend it for the menu alone. The unlimited mimosas/champagne/bloody mary brunch dealy is just an excellent added bonus. While the waiters are friendly, the service is horrendous. It is a small restaurant and it took them over two hours to get us our meals. We saw people who came in after us get served, eat, and leave and we saw groups who knew the owner get served at their beck and call, which is frustrating that there would be such a clear priority placed on their favorites. A table near us had a similar experience but actually left, and on their way out asked, "have you ever actually walked out from a restaurant because of their service?" The food is not worth the wait. I first came here back in the day when I first moved to NYC, so 2010? I remember it being cheaper, like $13 for brunch, but I guess that what happens when the area blows up and inflation takes over. Either way, under $20 for a boozy brunch is quite a deal! You can hardly get an entree in the city for $20! This pass time I was here with a large group of 9 and it was a bit of a mumbled mess. One of my friends made a reservation but when we got to the restaurant they said they didn't have a reservation for 9 people. So of course in true NYC spirit we had to wait for the rest of our party to come before being able to sit. Once the majority of our group got there the waiter sat us since we were crowding the doorway. We weren't standing outside in the snow. Once everyone arrived, the waiter said he wanted to make this easy and "clean" to order our drinks... yea that didn't go so good... but we all got our drinks. I guess we're heavy drinkers but we were constantly asking for refills... I don't know why he didn't put down pitches, so we could have poured ourselves but... what do I know. As for the food, I got the Fusilli al Salmone: Fusilli with smoked salmon in a tomato cream sauce and it was really good until I got towards the end of the dish. Everyone was done eating and I was barely half wat through... I guess it was a lot? But then at the end of the meal, I wasn't feeling too great. My boyfriend and I came here to celebrate our 3.5 year anniversary and to have brunch. Nice, mid-sized restaurant in the heart of Park Slope. Decor was simple and the restaurant had a nice and cozy ambiance. For weekend brunch, there's unlimited mimosas, champagne, bloody Mary, homemade pound cake, hot coffee or hot tea. So many options. We started off with mimosas. It was light, simple, and delightful to drink. There was a lot more orange juice than champagne. We were given a bread basket and inside was two slices of bread and of the homemade pound cook. According to my boyfriend, the pound cake was delicious! My boyfriend ordered the Gallinella which was a grilled chicken sandwich with lettuce, tomato, and mayonnaise and side salad. The sandwich looked amazing, but I didn't try it. My boyfriend wasn't a huge fan of it and said he's had better. I decided to order the Eggs Saporite which is oached eggs with ham and portobello mushrooms with Hollandaise sauce. Sotto Voce's approach to the Eggs Saporite is very unique because you're not getting the classic English muffin like you would for Eggs Benedict, instead you're getting the portobello mushroom. It was very moist and soft. The homefries were cooked perfectly. It had a nice crunch to it! Everything about this dish, just came together and it was vibrant and very delicious! I definitely would recommend Sotto Voce for a brunch spott because it's a cozy and local restaurant that you won't be disappointed with. Waiter was very nice but the wait time for food and even my app was like WTH. for app--my date ordered crabcakes and i ordered the lentil soup. his came out(big crabcakes BTW) and pretty tasty.....waited at least 10-12min for the soup-which was pretty good also Waiter claim he was waiting for me to finish up the crabcake--wadeva. anyway, he already took our order for the main dish--steak w/ brocolli n potatoes...and i had fettucine w/ shrimp. we were waiting at least 35-40min. :-?. I've been here twice in the past month; once for brunch and once for dinner. There is a great brunch special. Had the Frittata Contadina with unlimited drinks. Both the food and drinks were good but not amazing. Next time I'll try a different entree because the frittata was a bit too light and I ended up filling up on the unlimited pound cake. My friends and I had the best meal of our lives when dining at Sotto Voce last weekend - no exaggeration. We tried 4 different appetizers (calamari, mussels, bruschetta, and a pasta/pear "dumpling" dish), had 2 bottles of great Cabernet, and each got an entree AND dessert. A few of us also had cocktails, and we were treated to limoncello and a birthday cannoli for my BF at the end of our meal. All that, to say: every single thing we had was absolutely DELICIOUS, and aside from the wine, everything was $20 or less. The BEB ventured to Brooklyn! Yep, we did. Once a year, we, clad in designer bags, shades and stilettos venture across the bridge to Brooklyn to check out their boozy brunches. This month, we decided on Sotto Voce. See, the thing is, we go about our brunches rather blindly. Meaning, we all want it to be our first experience. Which kind of authenticates one of the missions of the group. :) That said, when we arrived we were a bit disappointed in the size because if you've read previous reviews, you know we are a group who enjoys being treated to our own little area. Here we were situated in the center of this quaint little bistro. This month, 23 women joined the party. So for our group ratings: Food: 2.5 Service: 4 Bottomless Booze: 3.5 Decor: 3 Overall: see stars above. As you can see, our overall ratings (we have little BEB comment cards that we individually fill out to come up with these numbers) weren't that great. Now, let me say this. Because we were a large party, we were subjected to a Pre-Fixe menu. So we didn't get the benefit of all of the yummy stuff that the surrounding tables were chowing on. That said, with a limited menu we agreed that none of us were happy or impressed with our food. Or the way the Pre-fixe menu was written. Utterly confusing for some pretty smart women if I do say so myself (wink). My personal comment, how can you mess up a chicken ceasar salad?! I'll tell you, leave out anything resembling seasoning and you feel like you're eating a meal thrown together after losing a challenge on survivor island. While we really loved our wait staff's personality (Omar, Pretty Tony and Anachi were a riot) we did notice that they got a bit flustered when the orders came out. Messing up many of them and delivering them to the wrong people. So, we summized that they really aren't used too or prepared for a large group. Also, I'm not sure where they buy their OJ for their mimosas but it is so bitter, it makes them hard to enjoy Anachi was nice enough to let us switch (which isn't their norm) to Poinsettas for the duration of our brunch. I actually live across the street from this restaurant and decided to venture in with my husband after a long flight! We enjoyed our food but were very shocked when we received the bill and they added a service fee. They did not mention anywhere about adding gratuity . I spoke to the manager and he told me that it is optional but this was never mentioned to me before. I told him that I lived across the street and then he mentioned now we know you. It should not matter where I live; they should not be placing gratuity without having it posted (for two people) I mentioned to them that I felt as an African American woman that I wanted to make sure this was not something they only did to their customers of color. Verdict: Mediocre brunch, good to bring a bunch of friends for a cheap bottomless due to great service Review: Sotto Voce is a hit or miss type of experience. Let's start with the good: the restaurant staff was so nice! They never let our glasses reach the bottom and were very accommodating of our large group. They give bread baskets with regular bread and pound cake slices. I know it's random, but the pound cake is so delicious! Now onto the mediocre aspect of the restaurant: the bread in the bread basket was nothing more than simple unimpressive bread. Also, all of the entrees were very hit or miss. My boyfriend got the spinach pasta which was actually a spinach sauce and it was tasty. My vegetable pasta was good too. The pasta with tomato sauce was very plain, nothing special and the portions were so small my guy friends especially were not satisfied. The breakfast options all looked simple and straightforward as well. So again, great service and good bottomless, but didn't hit the mark on the food for me. The delivery was 35 minutes late. I was starving same with my daughter. I ordered calamari, and two pastas one with meatballs and tomato sauce, and another with mushrooms and cream sauce. The calamari is soggy, rubbery and there is no taste. The pasta my daughter got was horrendous, it was pretty dry, and has absolutely no taste it was like gum that had no flavor anymore. My pasta had a bit of flavor but anyway it wasn't worth 20 dollars. Fabulous find in Park Slope. My husband and I were staying in an ABNB on 3rd and 7th so we saw this restaurant when we were out for a walk. We are SO thankful that we did. We sat at the bar for dinner and everything was perfect. I assume he may be the owner- Hannachi- who was behind the bar immediately made us feel very welcome and a member of his family. The service he provided was exceptional and to top that off, the food was amazing. I had the chicken pear salad and my husband had the chicken Parmesan (a very huge portion by the way). Drinks and fun conversation topped it all off. We will definitely make it a point to visit this restaurant again on our future trips to NY. Called this morning got a reservation for within the hour. Got there place was packed but my reservation was honored, so far so good I'm impressed. Was then informed that bottomless brunch does not start until my food goes in. I order I don't get my first drink order until my food comes, all the while I'm looking at the other tables drinking and being refilled with no food but they had a different and clearly more competent server. I wasn't even given or offered the pound cake desert. After much frustration I asked for the check at which point I was offered a mimosa for the road. Without a doubt the worst brunch experience we've ever had. From the moment we sat down to the moment we left, there wasn't one thing that was remotely enjoyable. We sat down to a table set with dirty dishes. When I told the waitress the dish was dirty, there was no apology or look of acknowledgment. We took a look at the menu and noticed the address - "Park Slope" had mysteriously become one word - Parkslope, Brooklyn. My boyfriend is a chef at a restaurant in NYC, and naturally asked the question of "What type of ham is served?" answered by our waiter with "Oh, I'm not sure how to describe it." Oh...okay. So instead, my boyfriend ordered eggs sunny side up with sausage and I ordered the fruit salad with yogurt along with our drinks of choice - a mimosa and bloody Mary. Those drinks that originally had us optimistic? Served from generic concentrated orange juice for the mimosa and some sort of tomato juice, no spices (and no pepper on the table to liven it up a bit) and little to no alcohol in that bloody Mary. Don't get me wrong, I've been to unlimited drink brunches and know the alcohol content lacks a bit more than usual, but this was much less than the usual. Upon receiving our entrees, my boyfriend noticed his eggs looked a bit...different from "sunny side up." More like fried, burnt, over-hard eggs. Those three pieces of sausage - if you could call it that - were smaller than my pinkie and looked as if they'd been nuked in the microwave. Hoping that my food would prove a bit better, I noticed the small squares of mystery fruit looked as if they'd been cut days prior, complete with brown edges and soggy, little-to-no fruit flavor. My boyfriend sent his food back (after finally getting the wait staff's attention - the entire time, they were sitting or standing around the bar), only to receive eggs that were over medium. This, I believe, was the moment when we couldn't wait to get the f out of there. Our waiter comped my boyfriend's meal, but that doesn't solve any of the problems this restaurant has. You'd think a restaurant that serves brunch with numerous types of eggs on the menu would at least know the first thing about cooking them, right? Assume wrong for Sotto Voce, Yelpers. Lesson learned; unlimited drinks may sound appealing, but when a restaurant can't even get that right to cover the terrible food and service, it's absolutely not worth it. My old Park Slope staple...Sotta Voce was THE brunch place when I lived there. The french toast is perfectly soft and sweet and melts in your mouth. Eggs saporite are also fabulous, as is the penne with pesto. Brunch deal is amazing: $12.00 for unlimited mimosas/champagne or bloody marys and a dish. The meal starts with a wonderful basket of bread and pound cake and jam. The pound cake is so good I usually ask for seconds and thirds and end up being almost too full to eat my meal. Almost...but not quite. Nothing can ever stop me from polishing off that french toast. Dinner is also great. I recommend the caponata appetizer and pretty much anything from the pasta and meat menu. Ambience is cute; usually full of employees from methodist hospital or young professionals from the area. In the summer you can dine al fresco and watch baby strollers and dogs walk by. Can't beat the $11.95 brunch with unlimited mimosas, champagne or bloody marys (maries?). Also unlimited pound cake! I think my friends actually snuck some in their bags on the way out. I got the eggs benedict, which was delicious. The rest of the menu looked amazing, too. I picked at my friend's enormous fluffy french toast with fruit and that was super yummy as well. This place gets unbelievably packed - we were a big group, and half of us were running on Asian time, so it took maybe an hour and a half for our entire party to get together, then another 30 minutes to an hour for us to be seated. I had heard such good things about their pound cake/unlimited drinks, etc, that I figured I needed to try it when my friends came into town. a) Pound cake was nothing to talk about. It was dry and somewhat tastless. I enjoyed the bread that came in the bread basket much more, but hey, it was just bread. b) Unlimited drinks were pretty good - I will say that they did come by and refill quite often, which was nice, but it was also not the best drinks that I had had. c) Food was ok. Not great, but just ok. I had pancakes - they were decent, but it's also hard to screw up pancakes. The egg dishes were somewhat subpar, but palatable. d) We were seated right away - no waits (which is always nice for a Sunday morning). For the fixed price, it was decent, and we certainly were sated by the time we left (even if it was from the bread in the bread basket), but with so many other good brunch places in the area, I may not return. read more
