OMG, the drinks, the honey soul appetizer, the catfish and spaghetti, the peach cobbler, THE SERVICE. This place is amazing. We found them on Yelp while visiting from VA. We will definitely return. Love this place when we are in C-bus. Best Southern comfort for sure. Great meals with sides to choose from. Save the cornbread for last, as its like dessert! The handcrafted cocktails are delicious (if you go M-F, they are Happy Time prices to boot). I always end up ordering 2! Walkable from the theaters and Columbus Commons. Park in nearby garages downtown and easily walkable. Staff are delighful, and look nice (I know, not suppossed to comment on appearances...) but they are all classy, dressed in black- looking nice... Adds to the atmosphere. The REAL artwork around the restaurant offers culture, history, color and fun. There is always music here as well- either live or streamed in, adding to the authentic flavors! Wished we lived closer!

Been meaning to come here for a long time. Finally had a chance today. It's tucked in an alley off 3rd, doesn't look like much from the outside, but is beautiful and comfy inside. Service was great the whole time. There's a lot on the menu I wanted to try, but I saw smothered pork chops. I've liked them since I first had them, so whenever I see them on the menu, I usually get them. You can get them as a bowl, but I got the dinner. Two bone-in chops, tender and juicy and breaded with a little seasoning. Covered with a gravy/sauce that adds more flavor. And over top of tender short grain rice. I got baked beans as one of my sides, and they were soupy, but savory, and very tasty. I also got fried okra, which was a large portion of perfectly fried chunks. Also nicely seasoned. They do give you ketchup and vinegar, and hot sauce, and I tried those on the okra. But it was plenty good on its own. I came in hungry and left stuffed. They offered dessert, but I didn't even look at the menu because I knew I had no room. Parking is absolutely awful. Not their fault, of course. There are a couple of spots in the alley, but they are 30 minute only zones. Enough for pickup, but I didn't think it would be enough for dine in, and it wasn't, though my food did come up pretty quickly. Other parking is nearby but some of it is time limited or somewhat expensive. Limited street spots and a parking garage or two. You are right downtown, so you're going to pay. Definitely worth coming back to though. The price was reasonable, the food was excellent. The atmosphere was great. The music was great.

Overall: Great place with easy access in Downtown. Would return and try some other things out on the menu during future visits to Columbus. Food: I ordered the Bourbon Chicken for my companion and the Soul Food Bowl for myself. Despite being packaged together - nothing overpowered other items, each thing had a distinct taste. The chicken was juicy, the greens had a good flavor and the mac and cheese met expectations. If I had any complaints, it would be that the yams were overcooked (there was some noticeable burnt coloring but not much). This met my expectations and I honestly was full for hours after finishing my bowl (I'd had a light dinner the evening before and no breakfast so I was hungry by the time we ordered our lunch). My companion loved his meal. They also have great portion sizes for the price. Service: Quick interaction with the server to pick up my to-go order. It was ready when I arrived and it was correct I appreciate that they did accommodate my request to have greens instead of rice for the Bourbon chicken bowl.

First time flyers at this joint so here it is. We ordered pork chops, Mac and cheese with greens also we got Blackened chicken pasta. Pork chops had no soul just over cooked and tough. Greens were too salty for us and the Mac and cheese was mid. As for the Blackened chicken pasta. Star of the show. Noodles were tender with good flavor and the chicken was cooked right with great flavor. I am going to order it again. The next time we visit we will try other options.

I highly recommend Soul 2 Go on E. Lynn St in Columbus, Ohio. I love the food and atmosphere of this location. There is always great music there! The service is good and the food is delicious. I have a new favorite meal that I order and it is the lamb chop dinner with asparagus and macaroni and cheese or mashed potatoes. Chef William is the best! Visit and enjoy!!

Soul 2 Go was a vibe! We enjoyed the music, the service and most importantly the food! I had the Blackened Chicken Pasta and added Shrimp to it, it was flavor filled and left me feeling stuffed. It was so good!! The wings were also seasoned and fried to perfection . Everyone at the table loved their meals. I'd definitely recommend stopping through if you're in the area.

A few people recommended this place to me and raved about it. I was excited to try it but unfortunately I didn't get the same experience. When I arrived to pick up my food, it was not ready. Come to find out, my food was mixed up with someone else's and they gave it away. I then had to wait for them to prepare my food again. While eating my food, I noticed I had hair in it and I was completely turned off and unsatisfied with everything. The food was flavorful and good but by that point, I lost my appetite. I will not be returning.

Warning: Long review I was in Columbus for a conference. I'm a foodie and always searching for a REAL soul food restaurant when I travel. So I decided to try Soul 2 Go based on the reviews. First off, the street that it's located on reminded me of New Orleans (my favorite place) so the experience was off to a great start. I picked up my food from an unfriendly young lady, perhaps having a bad night. When I got back to my hotel with my jerk chicken dinner, I tasted it and IMMEDIATELY started texting everyone about the flavors. First time I had seen any restaurant add diced onions AND tomatoes on top. The cornbread was the perfect texture and sweetness. The next night I order from a Korean place. Not impressed so my last night, I went back to Soul 2 Go. My staff told me to get the perch or the salmon pasta but the lemon pepper chicken was calling my name. This night I was greeted by a beautiful and friendly woman with beautiful braids. She even said thank you for coming, unlike the other young lady who just said sign your receipt and walked away. This dinner was just as flavorful as the other. This time I added yams and fried okra. The yams were good, but a little too much cinnamon for my liking. The okra was not frozen, to my surprise. I grow okra in my garden every year so I could tell this was fresh! I live in Central KY but have already made plans to make the drive to visit Soul 2 Go again. Side note: It's a huge dinner! Both included two leg quarters. REAL SOUL FOOD! You MUST visit!

Hands down the best soul food in OHIO! The liver and onions melt in your mouth! The catfish and perch are perfectly crispy and flavorful. I've had the fried corn bread with thicken and honey drizzle and wow? The Mac and cheese will have you squealing and the greens will keep a grin on your face. I've been 5 times so far, bringing friends who haven't tried it and they are equally as impressed as I am. The customer service tops it all! Chef Hightower, you have amazing food and crew!

First time in Columbus to participate in the Cap City Half Marathon brought me to the Renaissance Downtown hotel. After checking in to the hotel, myself and a few other ladies were famished and looking for good food. I opened the Yelp app and Soul 2 Go was at the top of the lunch nearby search. Even better, it was literally located across the street from the hotel a few feet down this alley type side street. We arrived at a great time because about 20 minutes after being seated, a crowd of people were filing in so we would have had a wait. I ordered the Soul Food Sampler which consisted of small but perfectly sized portions of Mac and cheese, sweet potatoes, collard greens, and 3 chicken wings pieces. I washed it down with a yummy cocktail. I do not remember the name and I did not take a picture of the drink menu but it's one of their fun named cocktails. We didn't feel rushed to exit the table once we finished our food but we were mindful of people waiting for a seat. Apparently word got out about this restaurant to other runners because the next day we attempted to go back for dinner and there was a crowd of people with an estimated wait of an hour and a half to an hour and 45 minutes. Whoah! Definitely a restaurant I would visit again. Myself and another diner had the Soul Food Sample and the third person had the shrimp and grits and she loved it (see added picture).

Awesome shrimp and Grits just needed a little more seasoning in the grits and needed to be a bit more creamy but other than that it tasted good. The waitress was on point and kept our glasses filled. Me and my husband were out in Columbus visiting friends and stopped in to try Soul 2 go. I had the blackened chicken pasta and my husband had the wings, greens, and mac. The pasta was amazing and seasoned to perfection! My husband had the chicken, greens, Mac. I tried the chicken and it was good. The Mac was good as well but a bit salty for me. My husband enjoyed the chicken and greens and said it was really good. There was live music which made the atmosphere a vibe! I would highly suggest this restaurant. We sat at the bar and the service was really good. Michael was very attentive and very nice! Overall I would highly suggest this restaurant and urge anyone thinking about going to try it out! read more

I tried this place after a Tik Tok and imma be honest those tikers is some damn liars!!! This place is cute but cramped can probably hold 25-30 ppl I was told the wait time was 30 minutes cool right being a Sunday and I know how the church crowd can be!! A hour in half later still not seated WTF!!! I finally went up to hostess like gurrllll be real wth is going on??? She was like oh we getting a party of 14 Ummmm so? She was its gonna be another hour I told my friend F all that we can eat at the bar!!!!! ( I live 2 hours away and we solely went to Columbus to eat nothing but Soul Food & nothing else fat shit lol) I tried the Fried cornbread with chicken it was different the cornbread almost tasted like a cake the honey was drizzling the chicken tender was definitely on a diet lol but it was soooo tasty! I tried the buttermilk chicken bowl which came with greens and mac the mac was ok the greens was delicious garnished with onions and tomatoes made it perfect the yams dry bug chunks probably canned the meat was a nice size fried chicken breast... Now my friend he had the smothered pork chop he said it was ok a little tough I asked him about his mac and cheese and red beans and rice He just said it was ok.... idk lol not the best not the worst but ok lol The bathroom was clean clean!!! I noticed their was a guy playing the keyboard that was a nice touch even though before he came their music selection was chill 90's R&B I like the decor nothing to flashy nice smaller than I imagine. I really wanted to love this place because soul food is my absolute favorite. Unfortunately, finding great soul food when dining out has always been a challenge for me. Moreover, since I can't indulge in eating soul food often for health reasons, I was hoping Soul 2 Go would be a special treat. Unfortunately, it fell a bit short of my expectations and left a lot to be desired. Let's start with the Pros: The restaurant is very clean, nicely decorated, and in a prime downtown location. The staff was incredibly friendly--multiple employees greeted me upon arrival, the host was very kind, and everyone was accommodating. Now let's get to the cons. I initially tried to place my order on the website, but it kept showing as "closed," which didn't make sense at all for a Friday on Valentines Day at 4 PM. I decided to call instead, only to be told that phone orders weren't accepted and that I had to order online. When I explained that the website wasn't working, I was advised to use Grubhub or DoorDash. After downloading DoorDash and attempting to order, it still showed as closed. Grrr. I thought to myself they have to be losing many potential patrons simply due to how difficult it is to order in the first place. Since I was already on my way, I decided to order in person. However, parking was a nightmare. The restaurant is located in a back alley with no meters, so most patrons were illegally parking behind the building. I did the same and prayed I wouldn't get towed. I like to try different things when at a new restaurant so ordered wings with mac and cheese, and baked beans, and also ordered the catfish and spaghetti meal. Despite the restaurant not being busy, my food took 40 minutes to make--yikes! The meal itself was just okay. The mac and cheese tasted more like an upgraded version of boxed shells and cheese rather than the rich, baked Southern style I expected. The spaghetti had mounds of noodles but barely any meat sauce. The fish and chicken were okay but nothing to write home about. Surprisingly, the baked beans were the best part of the meal, which was disappointing given everything else I ordered. Overall, while the service was great and the restaurant had a nice ambiance, the food and ordering process left a lot to be desired. This may be a decent place for casual diners, but for those who grew up eating traditional, homestyle southern comfort food and are accustomed to our familiar soul food favorites, this place may not meet your expectations. read more

Food was great. Our server was excellent. One of the staff seem to need help adjusting to my chair. Had an extremely hard time getting around. Everyone else was fine. Just the one. Was a little surprised to hear how upset my chair made her. I don't see us going back as my chair isn't going anywhere. I try to support ours in everything especially after all I've done. I was a advocate for this black owned business time and time again I have given excuses on what happened to the good food and the good service I use to receive from this (bob) but lately I feel the service as well as the quality of the food has sunken to it's lowest level at this point dry over cooked baked chicken how you do that! Totally disappointed in the service of bar she was very rude to a customer that came in not sure if he wanted to eat in or take out the customers first time at this restaurant a needed assistance but she had no time for him. I refuse to spend money some where our own kind is made to feel unwanted and uncomfortable!!!!!!! Bad Bad Bad Soul 2 go I gotta gooooo! read more

This review is for the Gahanna location. The lady at the counter was very pleasant. The "restaurant" is not for a sit down experience; too small. Unfortunately, the food is not what I expected, greens undercooked, cabbage too salty. The chicken wings not well seasoned. Salmon bites were good. Tried for the 1st time through delivery, so I will say it would probably been higher rating if dining in. Got a bowl to get a number of items, then tried the rice and gravy-- because it looked so good (I'm not rice person, by the way) and we got chicken wings. The bowl included smothered pork chop, mac n cheese, green beans and yams. Mac and yams DELICIOUS! Green beans were okay, but a bit salty. The problem was the gravy which I didn't care for and, unfortunately, was all over the food b/c it was all in bowl together. The wings were the biggest disappointment - 4 little pieces extremely overpriced, dried out and over seasoned. Surprisingly, the rice was REALLY GOOD. Seasoned perfectly, despite the gravy. Again, I was just not a fan. I would be open to trying this again, but only as a dine in experience. I'd definitely recommend it. read more

First, I must say the food is delicious. I haven't tried anything from there just I don't care for. My favorite is the yams the poundcake. My server has always been attentive and courteous. The ambience during the time we visit have been average. The only con I would mention is the parking. It's a little inconvenient to either get valet or have to walk from an adjoining five star God bless this place. read more

Got it -- thanks for clarifying! I'll adjust the review so it shows that both visits were bad experiences: --- Review for Soul2Go A couple of years ago, my girlfriend and I visited when the restaurant was still on Cleveland Avenue at Essex (we used to call it the AK Lux Box). The food back then was terrible -- very disappointing. Today, we gave the new location a try, hoping for improvement. My girlfriend ordered jerk chicken with macaroni and cheese and greens. I ordered whitey fish with cabbage and rice and beans. Unfortunately, the fish had a strong, unpleasant smell and did not seem fresh. The overall quality of the food was again very disappointing. Both times we've tried this place, the experience has been terrible. Sadly, I have to give Soul2Go a negative review -- very disappointing and honestly disgusting. --- read more

OMG!! In Columbus for the week producing a conference. Got in after a long flight and found Soul 2 Go on Yelp. The food and service is always amazing. At the main location its a whole vibe. I was getting my food to go because i was on lunch break. It was less than 20 minute wait. Wow! I am so happy to finally try this place. This place punches way above it's weight! The value for our meals was really exceptional. The greens were so great and not too vinegary. The mac and cheese was just the right balace of creamy with crispy bread crumbs. The jerk chicken was the highlight but our party got the perch and shrimp and grits were a hit as well. My salad base included a paper boat of iceburg lettuce topped with shredded cheddar cheese and pickled red onions. I ordered it with Ranch dressing. When I added a little of that Cincinnati sweet brown sugar sauce to the salad - it elevated the salad. Next time I will ask them to chop the brisket. Today it was served as 3 large chucks that I needed to cut to eat. My husbands pulled pork sandwhich started with a freshly buttered and toasted bun. The meat was chopped, and basted with the sweet and tangy brown sugar bbq sauce. They also addded a little pork render (fat) that was chopped into the pork befire piling it on the bun. Hubs put the cole slaw and pickles on the side because he doesnt like them but I do. There were a few other topping options but at the end of the day Hubs like just sauce, meat and bun. The sandwhich was phenomenal! We both loved it. My brisket was equally delicious. Neither of us can say which one was our favorite; pulled pork or brisket. The mac and cheese was a penne type noodle tossed in a cheese sauce but this was dryer. If you want gloopy cheese sauce then this is not for you. As it was, the cheese clung to each noodle. My husband LOVED it; I prefer more of a liquid cheese sauce. The green beans were salty. I wiuld like to see less salt used in the preparation. The corn beead was exceptional! Moist with cinamon in it. Hubs said if you dont like cinnamon then this is not for you. Im not sure I tasted the cinsmon but I only had one bite. Each muffin is served with a side of honey butter. I brought mine home for my son. If he doesnt like it, hubs and I will duke it out. LOL. Update: kiddo liked it Finally the ambience. It was very apparent from signage in the parking lot that the owner saved the Hoggy's restaurant decor. She also shared quite a bit of her personal life with us. While I understand everyone has things going on outside of work, as customers we came to enjoy our lunch, drinks, and the patio atmosphere. It was difficult to fully enjoy ourselves when our server was distracted and handling personal matters so openly during our visit. Creole Kitchen at its new location…read more In Columbus for a court hearing in pending litigation in May 2026, I had had the opportunity to have dinner at the new location of Creole Kitchen. For years, Chef Henry Butcher operated the restaurant at a location on Mt. Vernon Avenue, not far from Columbus State Community College and the Columbus Urban League. I first met Chef probably about 20 years ago, when I was in search of authentic Cajun and Creole cooking (my wife's parents were from Louisiana, and she's a true Cajun). In that somewhat economically distressed neighborhood, Chef and his crew were the most caring and diligent team in the Mt. Vernon Avenue area, feeding the flock with French toast, breakfast sandwiches, gator and shrimp po'boys, gumbo, jambalaya, étouffée, and all manner of carry-out southern breakfasts, lunches, and dinners. Shuttered for longer than anyone expected about two years ago, the Mt. Vernon Avenue restaurant returned to a new and improved life at a location adjacent to the Lincoln Theater, a landmark preserved by the visionary Mayor Michael Coleman. The theater's owners sought out Chef, urging him to make the upgrade over to East Long Street (the theater is at 769 E Long St, Columbus 43203, and the new Creole Kitchen is at 795 E. Long Street, less than a block away). The new location was custom-built for the restaurant. It is sparkling clean, spacious, has great wall art, and a helpful and well-trained staff. I was staying at the Westin Great Southern (about a $10 Lyft/Uber from the restaurant) and I dropped in before dinner got underway. Chef was there - working with the kitchen crew along with family members who make up the front line. After I ordered double gin and tonic, Chef sat down with me, and we talked about the change in locations. And then we talked about the food: this is comfort food, Southern comfort food at its best, and at its most authentic. Start with a roux - you can't go wrong if you start with a roux. I ordered my favorite entrée - crawfish étouffée ($18), with a serving ample enough that I had the second half of it for lunch the following day. Chef's new location has ample well-spaced and comfortable seating (I'm guessing there were 15 to 25 tables and a bar), excellent air conditioning, jazz at a volume that allows for easy conversation, and a server staff who know the menu well. The staff includes Chef's daughters Antoinette and Tonya, and honors the memory of Chef's son, Henry Junior, who was a beloved member of the hardest working crew in Columbus when the Mt. Vernon Ave. venue was operating. Chef's breakfast menu is like nothing available anywhere else in Columbus: real beignets (light, fluffy pillows of fried dough dusted with powder sugar, $5), an unforgettable Creole omelet (andouille sausage, Tasso ham, tomatoes, onions bell peppers folded into three eggs with melted cheese, served with grits, home fries, and toast, $15). There's a vegetarian version as well - with spinach, mushrooms, bell peppers, broccoli, and cheese ($15). Breakfast is served until 3:00 pm, and when you order many of the items you will be encouraged to customize the flavor with your choice of spice level (1 to 5), from a gentle warmth to a fiery kick. In the past, I've had Creole Kitchen prepare catered dishes of fried catfish, chicken and sausage gumbo (a rich, soulful blend of two stocks, thickened with a dark red-brown roux and loaded with authentic Creole flavor, $8 cup, $17 bowl), shrimp or oyster po'boys (served on French bread with house-made Creole chips, $18 to $21), and seafood fettuccine Alfredo (creamy Alfredo sauce tossed with fettuccine noodles with shrimp, scallops, and crab, at your choice of spice level from 1 to 5, $18) that we served at a crawfish boil my wife and I host in Worthington each year. Happily, these and more entrées remain part of Chef's menu, complimenting an ever-changing daily menu of dishes that make returning to the venue a special treat. A note about GPS and the internet: it might take some time for the internet to catch up with real life. Google Maps will get you to the right location but be aware that if you look up Creole Kitchen Columbus Ohio on its search engine you might be shown posts from the 1052 Mt. Vernon Avenue location, all of which are now out of date. Note also that the restaurant closes from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. to allow the crew to prepare for dinner (just like the good ones do in New Orleans!). For me, the next time I'm in Columbus, I will make it a point to sit down for breakfast at this truly authentic Cajun establishment. Thank you, Chef Butcher (and Antoinette and Tonya)!
