January 10, 2026. On our way to the Chicago Bears vs. Packers. We took the train downtown to the Ogilvie Station and arrived early enough to have lunch. I've seen this place and have always wanted to try it but just never had the time. I ordered the meat alone. No platter with sides, just the meat so I can't review the sides. I ordered a 1/2 pound of brisket and the sliced jalapeño cheddar sausage. I believe it came in a 5 ounce portion. The brisket was wonderful! Very moist, great smoked flavor and a perfect fat cap and bark. Very, very tasty. The jalapeño cheddar sausage was equally as good. It wasn't at all spicy, but it had great flavor. I don't usually use bbq sauce on my brisket or sausage, but when I didn't request any sauce, the gentlemen behind the counter suggested I just try the mustard sauce with the beef. What the heck, I tried it. It's probably one of the best Georgia style mustard sauce I've had. It's got that mustard flavor with that vinegar twang, but besides some black pepper, I can't tell what other spices are in it. But it really is good. I still like the brisket without sauce, but this mustard sauce in my opinion is really good. I see other reviews people complaining about the cost of the bbq. Most people don't understand what goes into creating great bbq. The cost of meat, the cost of wood for smoking, the time (12 to 16 hours for brisket). These places aren't just throwing this meat on a roller grill and waiting for it to drop off the other side. Great bbq is a work of art. Soul and Smoke dished me up a work of art. The first time I had Soul & Smoke was from a food truck on Michigan Avenue near the Apple Store. Now they're located in the Northwest Metra Station near my job. My favorite dish is the Shrimp and Grits. On Friday I decided to try the Gumbo and was pleasantly surprised. I'm so funny when it comes to Gumbo, I prefer seafood gumbo but if the Rue is solid, I'm a happy camper. Highly recommend! read more

This is in the food court and provides good quick bbq. The cashier was friendly and gave a nice hello greeting. I love that they have Acqua Pana water which is by far my favorite bottled water and not available in a lot of fast food shops. I ordered the brisket mac n cheese and it was tasty, although very small portion. It didn't get me full but it satisfied my hunger. My daughter got the pulled pork sandwich with cornbread. It was also good and the cornbread was served warm. Prices were reasonable. It exceeded my expectations for a fast food bbq place. read more

Going to a satellite version of a restaurant is usually never a good thing and yep this spot didn't let me down...1 pound of Rib tips were cooked hard and tough and to add to the nasty these things were overly salted...Yeah I won't be back...If you can't get fatty rib tips correct there is no hope for the more harder to cook meats...So glad I didn't buy any other cuts or sides. I used to get this amazing brisket dinner from Soul & Smoke through delivery but it isn't offered anymore so I decided to try a few new things. I got a half pound of rib tips and the side item sampler which includes small portions of the chicken gumbo, collard greens, macaroni and cheese, red beans and rice, and their cornbread muffin. Lastly, I ordered a bottle of their rum punch. All horrible. The rib tips were dry and tough beyond belief - nearly inedible. The macaroni and cheese was different than it used to be. Just like pasta in a cheese sauce type Mac. The greens were still good but had a giant hunk of smoked turkey that left me with not much greens. And the gumbo and red beans and rice were really just ok at best and somewhat bland. The bottle of rum punch was $13.50 and TINY. Too sweet and not very good. All in all, not worth the $73 I paid and I won't ever order again. read more

As much as I wanted to give this review a 3 star rating, I can only muster 2.5 stars and that's because I had the unique opportunity to compare and contrast to a direct competitor in the same moments. To be specific, this review is for Soul & Smoke's (S&S) food truck encountered on a gorgeous lunchtime Friday in Daley Plaza (DP). There were 11 other food trucks, with another BBQ competitor truck offering the same exact dish of better proportions and price. In question is the BBQ Brisket Mac & Cheese! Seeing as I know many many lunchtime workers who partake of the DP Friday Food Truck Lunch Rodeo, I had the unique opportunity to quiz my colleagues and compare S&S Brisket Mac & Cheese with a competitor. The S&S service was quick since no one else was waiting around and basically all you have to do is put 2 already cooked items together. I received a small boat of runny, slightly cheesy, under seasoned macaroni with approximately 4-5 tablespoons of lackluster bbq sauced brisket on top...and 1 piece was mostly fatty. There was no love in this cooking or the sauce. The barbecue sauce was dismissive and would've been better taking Sweet Baby Rays...or anything else, heating that up and passing it off as their own. I can ONLY say this because I encountered 2 other co-workers having the exact same S&S BBQ Brisket Mac & Cheese experience I was having. The exception is, 1 co-worker had the luxury of taking her's back to her desk where she had better barbecue sauce and spices to "FIX" hers up! This item cost $11.50 plus tax for them and my tab equated to $17+ dollars including tax and tip, because I paired the most delicious tasting, moist, $3 corn muffin, the size of a large fist with my meal! Had it not been for the muffin, it would've been a very sad lunch. I encountered 2 other co-workers who stumbled accidentally into the competitor's BBQ Brisket Mac & Cheese (just say it's an orange/brown truck). The competition just looked better. The Mac cheese was thicker and stood up to the dark sauced brisket pieces and there seemed to be enough meat to go with the mac. The competition also came in 2 sizes, small and large. The small option at $10 is easily as big as S&S if not bigger, but overall having a better looking presentation of the brisket to Mac ratio. I think the large was $13-$14, which was being thoroughly enjoyed. I just hope the competition has killer cornbread muffins when I truly try their Bbb Brisket Mac & Cheese...if not, at least I know I can get a couple muffins at Soul & Smoke. read more

Something told me going to a satellite wasn't the best idea. But I thought it was going to be good bbq. It was not... it was old, stale and the cook acted like it was his and shorted me. Which looking back I should be grateful - it was NOT WORTH the price. The rib special - $19 a pound / some of the smallest bones, meat wasn't flavorful and tasted old. The brisket which was supposed to be their speciality - was the bites and pieces diced up. Despite my asking it to be sliced several times. The smoked chicken gumbo was the perfect meal on a cold day. This is the best place to eat at in the train station. Ordering was easy on the kiosk and the food was great. Im coming back to this place every time I return to chicago! read more

I did not expect such soul satisfying BBQ goodness esp at a train station! But boy was it memorable, flavorful, and delicious. We LOVED the pulled pork, mac & cheese, and dirty rice. I saw someone who ordered grits and it looked bussin'. Cherry on top is staff was very friendly. Excellent! read more

Located in the train station, I was skeptical about a soul food place, but you know, I might as well give it a try. They have an order kiosk, so I was looking through what to get. An employee asked what I would be ordering so they could get started on it while I was paying for it. I ended up ordering their brisket sandwich and Mac and cheese to go. I went to grab something else, and when I came back my order was ready. Bag stapled shut, so I assumed if it was takeout, they would add utensils and napkins. That was not the case. I got on my train and opened the bag and figured out how to eat my brisket without getting dirty but had to save the Mac for later. The brisket sandwich was decent. It had a lot of sauce on it. The Mac and cheese was decent by the time I had it. Would I order again? Probably not, but it was good for that moment in time read more

Stopped at the Metra Station location on the way to the UPN train to Great Lakes. Got back to our hotel and, WOW! Had the corn muffin, the greens, and the mac n cheese. All three were EXCEPTIONAL! Regret not getting more food (thought we were going out for steak later and that fell apart). Otherwise, would have gotten that gumbo and some other stuff. Love their mission and service to the community as well. Already looking forward to the next Chi trip in order to visit the full restaurant or top stop at this location again! read more

I just door dashed this place and HALF OF THE FOOD WAS MISSING!! wtf?!? I did not receive the brisket and 2 chicken gumbos with added shrimp! Livid! The Dirty Rice smelled like feet and was nasty! They should just use Zatarans for their dirty rice. Very disappointed in this place. read more
