They do have seating available, but it feels more like a place where most people order their food and take it home. The parking lot is a little tight, but the food made up for it. I ordered the shrimp and fish basket, along with cabbage and mac & cheese for my sides. The cabbage was cooked well, and the mac & cheese was decent. The seafood was good, and overall the meal was worth the wait. One thing I enjoyed was their homemade lemonade. They also have plenty of menu options and daily specials depending on the day of the week, so there's a good chance you'll find something that fits what you're craving. Overall, it was a good experience. If you're in the Raleigh area and looking for some good seafood and soul food, I'd recommend giving this place a try. At the very least, it's worth checking off your list and seeing what all the buzz is about.

Fried chicken, meatloaf, yams, mashed potatoes, southern veg, salad, pies.... all really spot on. The biscuits are light as a feather. Even the bbq was tasty for restaurant fare. Look out for the fatback, it is addictive. The buttermilk pie was new to me and really delish. This place is not just "good for road food." It is delish. Thank you, local yelpers!

Food: The variety was very slim, the serving dishes were all pretty picked over - and not being readily filled - when we got there so we had to start out with the left overs and make our way back over to the buffet again later to check if they'd filled the serving dishes. I didn't think anything I had (flounder, chicken, potatoes, vegetables, pie) was particularly good. I put all that in small scoops each on my plate because somehow I just knew. I thought I'd find something I'd really enjoy but no way, didn't happen. (The place was busy though so I'll give them that. I just wouldn't go back, but I am traveling through so I wouldn't have much of an opportunity to do so more than once a year really). 'Ambiance' .. none. Very wide open and very much like a church rec-room basement with tables and booths. Nothing special or enticing. Big containers of water and drinks on every table. Looked cluttered but that's not important. Table: sticky. Floor: sticky Service: Everyone we had contact with was pleasant. Price was $30+ for two.

I drove nearly an hour to get to this restaurant, excited to try the oxtails. Upon arrival, I was told they were no longer being served because they were out. This marks the third time I've driven there specifically for oxtails and was unable to get them due to being out of stock. This wasn't late in the afternoon either--I arrived right at lunch opening. I know what some of you are thinking: why not call ahead? You're absolutely right. That mistake is on me, and I've definitely learned that lesson. On a previous visit, I tried the shrimp and grits, and I'll give credit where it's due--they were actually phenomenal and easily the best thing I've had there. Unfortunately, my other experiences haven't matched that quality. The last time I visited, I settled for the brisket burrito. While sweet and savory can work together, this one was overwhelmingly sweet and just didn't hit the mark. I also asked for a Diet Coke and was told they only had Sprite, regular Coke, and water, which was surprising. My wife ordered the biscuits and gravy, which had almost no flavor. For a southern soul food restaurant, that was pretty disappointing. I don't plan on coming back. I'm not mad--just disappointed. I hope this review helps others avoid making a long drive expecting a specific dish only to find out it's unavailable.
