I placed an online order to be picked up at 5:45. It was not ready when I got there. In fact, it was almost an hour before I got most of my order. There is indoor seating available if you wanted to eat in but I got mine to go. After almost an hour I still not get the hushpuppies I ordered and after I had to ask for my entire order more than twice I was over it by that point. I ordered fish with two side and wings with one side. The only thing I had was fish and wings no sides. Got the sides all on one plate even though it was two separate orders. I got two pieces of small cornbread haphazardly thrown in a bag when I had to ask for it. Everything that I ordered was clearly on my receipt and they did not even reference it to make sure it was accurate. Amazing! First of all I LOVE that you can order half and half (no matter what size your order) because WHY should I have to choose! Genius Food: I ordered the 1/2honey hot and 1/2 lemon pepper with yam soufflé cornbread and baked macaroni and cheese (for me). My partner ordered and I tried the hot honey fried whiting coleslaw and hush puppies. The seasoning were so flavorful (if a tad on the salty side). Everything was great though I wish my side of hush puppies came with more than 3 hush puppies and not smothered in the hot sauce. The side of ranch was yummy as well with the wings. Service: the front counter lady was very calm, welcoming and sweet. I appreciated I could order my meal online and it gave me a pickup time (which they kept to) and I could pay in person when I picked up. Food takes about 30 minutes to come out. Ambiance: nothing fancy but plenty of seating and clean. I might sit and enjoy my food fresh next time. The lady checking people out makes a point to come out and speak with people and greets everyone who comes in the door. Can't wait to go back and try more items especially the sides. read more

I've wanted to stop here for some time, but because I rarely come into this strip mall I kept forgetting. Today I finally made it. I thought I'd keep it simple and ordered just one fried founder filet, hush puppies, and cole slaw. They don't have soft drinks in the fountain, just cans. Also drinks in bottles. Even though I thought I said I'd be dining in, my food came to the table in a take out bag and container. I give them a plus for using an environmentally paper food container, but the utensils are plastic. When I opened the box I was surprised to see several filets rather than just one. Probably because the fish was nearly as thin as a paper plate. The tarter sauce is not homemade, but rather in a pkg like ketchup comes in. Even though the fish was lightly fried, the very thin edges were so crisp the tiny plastic knife couldn't cut thru it, so I ended up eating with my hands. There's way too much salt in the breading IMO that sadly overpowers the flavor of the fish. The hushpuppies were so over fried on the outside it was a battle to get my small plastic fork thru, but they were soft inside. The cole slaw, while tasty, had a strange grayish color which didn't make it look very appealing. If you come here don't expect to have a mellow dining experience. Although there were only a handful dining in (most customers seemed to be getting take out) two Very loud tv's are competing with each other. One plays the network news and the other an ongoing gospel performance. It was really ear splitting and unsettling. All and all a so-so experience, for me at least. read more

The Food is great most of the time. The service is terrible. They are always late especially at the Miami location. The Fayetville location is much better with taste and service! Every time it's my apologies we are running behind. Mind you I'm late most of the time picking it up. I've given several chances because I do enjoy the food. I think the portions of the sides are on the smaller side, still great. Just wanted to note that. Food is good for the most part. Their chicken wings are always seasoned well and cooked well and their hush puppies are excellent. Their cabbage/collards mix side dish never misses and they always have great homemade desserts available! My husband enjoys their hamburger steak and oxtail. I stopped by this restaurant by default due to Where's The Jerk not opening on time. I was new to the area and figured I'd try the Soul Food spot out to support a small black business. Normally, I don't bother to leave reviews, but I have to since I was sold mystery meat covered in gravy. I need to help save a life today. Okay, I should've known something was off when I saw the health inspectors sitting in the parking lot. I gave them the benefit of the doubt and still went in. I entered for the first time, and final time, and observed an exceptional dining space. The guy who worked the register probed me for my order while there was only one screen operating when they had two. He was impatient until I told him it was my first time and that the screen was off. No one was in the line, so there was no need for him to exhibit jittery body language. I only gave 2 stars for customer service because he tried his best to explain the food I was interested in trying. I should have know something was off when he was stammering over the question I had with the hamburger(steak) with rice & gravy. Major RED FLAG. I ordered 2 plates for lunch and one for lunch at work due to me working night shifts. I ordered hamburger(steak) with rice & gravy, cabbage, yams, and cornbread for the first plate. WHAT DID I REALLY EAT? THAT MEAT WAS NOT BEEF!!!!!!!!! BEEF IS NOT TENDER PINK AND SPICY WITH A TOUGH TEXTURE!!!!! THE MEAT APPEARED TO BE LIGHT BROWN AND THERE WAS NO BLOOD, LUCKILY, DRIPPING FROM THIS MYSTERYYYY MEATTTTT! I NEED QUESTIONS ANSWERED. Why were the green beans canned and unseasoned? They tasted as tough as tire rubber. Why were the yams not candied? There was no butter or sugar in those yams, but there certainly was an abundance of nutmeg in it. I have you two stars on the food because the cornbread was exceptional. It could have been sweeter. Everything tasted bland. I had to throw the plate away due to me not being able to eat the mystery meat. It was so nasty I wouldn't even feed it to a dog. The green beans weren't consumable neither. That was the worst lunch I ever had working a 12 hour shift. I was so upset I had to wait to eat chips to fight my appetite. Never againnnnnn!!!! Next, is plate number 2. I ordered Fried Whiting, Collard Greens, and Yams. Again, the yams were nasty! So freaking cringe worthy. The collards were bland, but I added salt and ate it anyhow. The Fried Whiting was not fried in Houses Autry. What the heck did you do to it? Air fry it in cornmeal AFTER I cut the same fish in half and sold me "two pieces"? Man that was the worst two plates I ever bought from a black business. Keep that foolishness up and you'll be out of business in a few years. Times like these when I miss K&W. Their food had more soul to it than this place cause the soul was missing in everything I ordered. DO NOT EAT HERE IF YOU DON'T WANT TO EAT NASTY AND UNKNOWN MYSTERY MEAT!!! Maybe it was what I ordered or an off day, but it was underwheming: the hamburger steak and gravy was a tad too salty, the greens were bland, and the Mac & cheese was less than impressionable. Ordered and paid for food online was told it would be ready at 5:05. Arrived at 5:05, tried to call the restaurant to verify food was ready. Phone number advised to call in text message didn't work as well as none of the other phone numbers listed. Went into the restaurant that was unbearably hot with NO AC! Asked about my order and was told it was not ready. After waiting 15 minutes in the hot restaurant inquired again about my food and asked for a refund if it was not ready. Kitchen staff came out and said cashier didn't notify them that I was there and that it would be another 5 minutes. I wanted to leave but I only stayed because I had a hungry toddler with me, Darius Cooks said the food was good and my husband wanted to try it since we were in town. Left to me I definitely would have left as I hate chaos and dysfunctional businesses. On to the food. Terrible!!! It was piping hot but nothing we ordered was good. The Mac and cheese has a weird porky taste. The chicken and dumplings were slimy, the Yams were gross, the chicken wings had weathers on it. The fried wings were salty and the baked wings were soggy. On this occasion I ordered hamburger steak with rice and gravy and 2 sides. The cabbage tasted like it was cooked with old fatback grease. I couldn't finish eating the cabbage. The hamburger steak was over seasoned with pepper. They must have new cooks. The worst part was the 45 to 50 minute wait for the order to be filled. This will be my last order for a while. Tried for the 1st time last week and what a treat! The man at the counter was very friendly and helpful (and his sample of the pineapple pudding at the end of our ordering sold him 2 to go orders!) I got the fried fish/w 2 sides. I peeled the thin dark skin off the back leaving only flaky white fish and a very nice golden brown coating, excellent! Got the garlic mashed potatoes w/brown gravy, the garlic flavoring in the potatoes was just right and the optional gravy I got was an excellent compliment without being overpowering, the turkey pinto beans were a very pleasant surprise as I have never tasted pinto beans like that before, excellent flavor!
