I had the turkey meatloaf, Mac n cheese and cabbage. I also ordered a side of cornbread dressing with gravy. The mac n cheese was fantastic, reminded me of my family recipe. The cabbage had a great flavor, just salty same with the meatloaf. The dressing was pretty bland. Three dinners with drinks totaled 55 dollars which is great to me. Great comfort food! read more

So due to the wait from them to take our order and then bring the food to us......I'm assuming it's made to order (there also was a issue with their front serving area ‍). Okay.....so the turkey necks over the rice was good. The only issue I had with it is that it was salty. The turkey necks for literally cooked to fall directly off the bone. The collard greens and yams were cook with the right amount of tenderness. Don't only issue I had with my sides were they were like warm. Ok so this spot is kind of tucked away, but it's next to Loca Luna fyi. I'm really big on reviews so I decided to take a chance because of all of the good ones. Let me say they did not disappoint! I ordered the Tilapia, with Mac and cheese and yams (also added some black eyed peas) and everything was SO good! The fish was seasoned to perfection and made to order so it was nice and hot. The Mac and cheese was so bomb, but I think the yams were my favorite! This is a black owner business, and the owners were so sweet and down to earth. The train is right on track! We got lucky and stumbled upon Soul Food Train after church on one of the Sundays they just so happened to be open. The location is in a plaza surrounded by other ethnic food restaurants, and there was lots of parking as well. Upon walking and were greeted by the owner she was very personable and When you walk in the menu is written on a chalkboard and it is a buffet style, but you tell the server what you want. They offered one entrée and 2 sides for $8.99. I got fried chicken (all drums), collard greens, macaroni and cheese, and added an extra side of sweet potatoes also the meal came with a piece of cornbread. The chicken was delicious seasoned well and tasted like it came fresh out the fryer. The greens were delicious too, The yams were good and sweet (i'm used to a little more spice like cinnamon but they were still good) and the macaroni and cheese and cornbread were okay just a little dry. All in all I'd go again to see if they offered another meat, like fish on another day. read more

This time we decided to look around cuz ain't no way we in the south and ain't no good cooking. We went in not knowing what to really expect but seeing previous reviews we was interested. We both got the pork chop dinner. This had to be a big ahhh pig cuz the pork chops were huge and they tasted so good. This was one of the best restaurants. Clearly I've been busy with school because I cannot believe I haven't written a review for this place yet. I love soul food train! It's theclosest thing I can get to my momma's cooking. Kris/Chris (I'm not sure how she spells her name) is the owner and cook. She is like your auntie on your daddy side. I love it. Makes me feel like I'm back in south Ga. Very homey, friendly, and laid back. Typically when I go she greets, serves, and cashes me out. The setup is somewhat cafeteria style. Usually there are 2-3 meats to choose from and then maybe 6 or so sides. Ok, honestly, I've never had anything bad from here. I think maybe once, my greens were a tad bit on the salty side but that's about the only gripe I could come up with at this point. I always get the meat and 2 sides with bread(around $9)...although sometimes I'm so greedy or everything thing looks so good I'll add on another meat or side. The fried chicken is like homecooked fried chicken. Not store or restaurant bought with all the batter but just legit, well-seasoned fried chicken. I'm pretty sure it's always legs or wings. You get 3 pieces before having to struggle to pick sides. Baked chicken...bomb. Fall of the bone tender in its own gravy. Turkey neckbones...yesssss. You just can't go wrong with anything. I'm not gonna go through everything I've gotten from here mainly bc I can feel all of you judging me. *gives you the hand* However I'll tell you my favorite sides are....the yams, mac n cheese, collard greens, green beans, and fried okra...in no particular order. Ok I'm gonna give it 5 stars for FOOD solely but if I had to take away a star it would be for ambiance. Very basic, clean, but nothing to write home about. Soul Food Train is a Southern and soul food restaurant that opened April 2012 in Nazareth Plaza, located near the intersection of Franklin Road and South Marietta Parkway (South 120 Loop). The shopping center is home to popular Tasty China (two doors down) and Jerusalem Bakery. Soul Food Train is a small "mom and pop" restaurant. It's run by two sisters. This is a pretty basic, no-frills restaurant. There's not much to speak of in terms of ambiance. Foods are prepared daily and set up on an ordering line, cafeteria-style. There are about 10-12 different selections on a typical day. The daily special "meat and two" (one meat and two sides) is $8.99 plus tax and comes with cornbread (no drink). Drinks include fresh lemonade and sweet tea. All food and drink are served on disposable plates or in disposable containers. Meats often consist of fried chicken and baked chicken. I've also seen turkey meatloaf, smothered pork chops, and (pork) neck bones. They serve oxtail on Sunday I believe. Sides include mac and cheese, collard greens, candied yams, green beans, cabbage, mashed potatoes and gravy, and rice. These are several, but not all, items the kitchen offers. I've tried both the fried chicken and baked chicken and both are good. The fried chicken is crispy and savory. You can choose which pieces you want (e.g. drumstick, thigh, breast). Compared to a fast food fried chicken place like Popeyes, I like that Soul Food Train's fried chicken is mildly seasoned with less batter and less grease. The baked chicken, all drumsticks, is served with white rice and gravy. The meat is tender, moist, and falls off the bone. It tastes homemade and I recommend it. Sides I've tried include the mac and cheese, collard greens, cabbage, and candied yams. They're A-OK. I like the mac and cheese which is made with five cheeses and small elbow macaroni. The darker orange, chewier, cheesier parts are quite tasty. The finely chopped collards are prepared with turkey, not pork. Therefore, the flavors aren't as pronounced, but still satisfying nonetheless. The chopped cabbage is tasty and the candied yams are soft, smooth, sweet, and gratifying. If it's your first time at Soul Food Train, I suggest ordering the mac and cheese and candied yams as your two sides. Chris is the owner and she'll most likely greet and serve you. She's friendly, hospitable, will treat you like family, and make you feel at home. She does everything from cooking to taking orders to serving to ringing customers up. I won't lie.. i was pretty nervous when i went in initially.. it was empty & buffet style food.. i asked for a menu & was told they didn't have any at the time..the lady who greeted me was super nice though & assisted me with placing my order. I got Turkey Wings w/ rice, mac n cheese & collard greens! It was so fyeeeee (good for the slow ones ). Everything was seasoned to perfection.. I literally didn't have to doctor up anything but the greens (jus added hot sauce for a kick)! One day I had a craving for soul food and couldn't find a really good spot a friend of mine took me to Soul Food Train the food was delicious the macaroni and cheese was very creamy and collard greens were done perfect for my liking I'll have to try their sister restaurant mana house. But I'm quite satisfied with social training and they are very close to my home so every Friday I treat myself to a reasonably priced meal and that delicious lemonade. If you want legit home cooking, this is the place. The collards are killer and so's the cornbread (fine grain, slightly crumbly, and a little sweet). They may have wonderful mains other than fried chicken, but I will probably never know because I don't think I'll ever be able to NOT order their fried chicken. It's definitely brined/seasoned overnight and deep fried with a lightly dusted, perfectly crisped skin. Before walking into the restaurant my son was convinced that he wanted fast-food, but after my plate was made he instantly changed his mind. I ordered the baked chicken with gravy and rice, collard greens and Mac & cheese, No Complaints this way. My son ordered beef tips stew, blackeye peas and mac & cheese, he wasnt complaining either... To busy eating. The food was good. The owner was extremely friendly, she recongized that we were new faces, so of course she begin telling us how fresh her products are and that they were all locally grown vegetables, prepared without pork.... I wanted to try the fried chicken, so I had to wait a few minutes for that to finish cooking. My sis is vegetarian; however, and went ahead with her macaroni, veggie medley, rice, and greens. I ordered the fried chicken, macaroni, and greens. The macaroni has five cheeses in it and was perfect. The greens were pretty good, not as soft as I usually eat them, but they were still good. The fried chicken? Church's, Popeye's, and KFC, please promptly eat your hearts out. This fried chicken tastes like the stuff at HOME. Like, almost as good as Granny's! When I walked in I instantly felt comfort from the staff, the dinning room was clean and so was the food line. The first time we ate at the Soul Train restaurant, the food was pretty decent. Today when we were there the food was so cold. After sitting for a minute, I noticed steam coming from the warming pans all of a sudden. Guess they forgot to turn it up for us. The next 2 customers were fooled. Stop faking and add an egg to that dry cornbread, get rid of that "no public restroom" sign, roll that 1970 floor model TV to the curb, and get an actual ice machine. Okay, being that me and two co-workers where going on lunch we called and placed the order 10-15 min earlier then our break. I forgot an order so otw I called back - they told me . " hey I meant to tell you when you called before, we don't do call in orders." ... what? You meant to tell me.... slipped your mind after you wrote 3 separate orders? Moving on, when we walk in the "servers" where sitting in a circle on their phones and eating . After giving them a 2 min "okay I need to go" state, they started arguing about whose going to get up to serve us. Now 5 min has passed and one finally gets up. I ordered all fried wings, Mac n cheese and cabbage . The best thing on my plate was the cabbage . My chicken was old tasting - as though it had been sitting there two days . Honestly it tasted like it came right out of publix . My coworker got a thigh and wing and the thigh was still pink all inside - so done on the outside raw in the center. Lastly my co worker ordered the baked chicken - she was the only one to enjoy her meal. Worse part was - we where told our total on the phone , $9.53. We get to the register and $11.99 was the new total- nothing extra ( no drinks or ex food) . One of my coworkers started to argue the price but then we realized our break was over and we needed to go- good thing we did because the older lady working at the register RUDELY answered her phone while we where talking to her and completely ignored everything for there on. This restaurant is not that far from my office, so I visit when I crave veggies. The owners are nice and the workers are friendly. I have had several of the veggies, I just hope that they add more veggie varieties to the menu. The mac and cheese is cheesy and the chicken and rice is also pretty good. I've tried the dressing, green beans, yams and pinto beans and they all have been pretty good. Ambience; The restaurant is located in a plaza near Tasty China and across the street from Hardees. It's easy to miss the establishment so let Hardees be your landmark. The spot reminds you of an old mom and pop type shop. There is a steam table and you walk up and place your order. There are a few tables, so you can sit and eat your meal if you wish. Staff; The staff is friendly however, there are not waiters. Basically once you finish your meal, you put away your own trash. This is not a problem for me, I'm always concerned about the taste of the food instead. If you're in Marietta, you should try this restaurant. I do believe you will like it. read more
