Tilapia with yams and Mac and cheese
    Connie A.

Ok so this spot is kind of tucked away, but it's next to Loca Luna fyi. I'm really big on reviews so I decided to take a chance because of all of the good ones. Let me say they did not disappoint! I ordered the Tilapia, with Mac and cheese and yams (also added some black eyed peas) and everything was SO good! The fish was seasoned to perfection and made to order so it was nice and hot. The Mac and cheese was so bomb, but I think the yams were my favorite! This is a black owner business, and the owners were so sweet and down to earth. I would highly suggest giving them your business if you're looking for good old fashioned soul food. One last bonus - they don't cook with pork. Huge plus for me - enjoy!

The train is right on track! We got lucky and stumbled upon Soul Food Train after church on one of the Sundays they just so happened to be open. The location is in a plaza surrounded by other ethnic food restaurants, and there was lots of parking as well. Upon walking and were greeted by the owner she was very personable and When you walk in the menu is written on a chalkboard and it is a buffet style, but you tell the server what you want. They offered one entrée and 2 sides for $8.99. I got fried chicken (all drums), collard greens, macaroni and cheese, and added an extra side of sweet potatoes also the meal came with a piece of cornbread. The chicken was delicious seasoned well and tasted like it came fresh out the fryer. The greens were delicious too, The yams were good and sweet (i'm used to a little more spice like cinnamon but they were still good) and the macaroni and cheese and cornbread were okay just a little dry. All in all I'd go again to see if they offered another meat, like fish on another day.

Tried this spot for first time. I can say the food was ok. I thought it was a little over priced for what I got. Didn't care for the potatoe salad, too watery. The baked chicken was dry. The ladies was nice. Didn't see anyone wearing a mask!! Will not be supporting any food business , if employees not masked up!

I won't lie.. i was pretty nervous when i went in initially.. it was empty & buffet style food.. i asked for a menu & was told they didn't have any at the time..the lady who greeted me was super nice though & assisted me with placing my order. I got Turkey Wings w/ rice, mac n cheese & collard greens! It was so fyeeeee (good for the slow ones ). Everything was seasoned to perfection.. I literally didn't have to doctor up anything but the greens (jus added hot sauce for a kick)! I will definitely be back BUT when i go back i will have a business proposition for them.. with food like that they should have lines out the door & not be empty on a Sunday at 2PM.. definitely wanna help see this BLACK OWNED business win in Cobb County!

Soul Food Train is a Southern and soul food restaurant that opened April 2012 in Nazareth Plaza, located near the intersection of Franklin Road and South Marietta Parkway (South 120 Loop). The shopping center is home to popular Tasty China (two doors down) and Jerusalem Bakery. Soul Food Train is a small "mom and pop" restaurant. It's run by two sisters. This is a pretty basic, no-frills restaurant. There's not much to speak of in terms of ambiance. Foods are prepared daily and set up on an ordering line, cafeteria-style. There are about 10-12 different selections on a typical day. The daily special "meat and two" (one meat and two sides) is $8.99 plus tax and comes with cornbread (no drink). Drinks include fresh lemonade and sweet tea. All food and drink are served on disposable plates or in disposable containers. Meats often consist of fried chicken and baked chicken. I've also seen turkey meatloaf, smothered pork chops, and (pork) neck bones. They serve oxtail on Sunday I believe. Sides include mac and cheese, collard greens, candied yams, green beans, cabbage, mashed potatoes and gravy, and rice. These are several, but not all, items the kitchen offers. I've tried both the fried chicken and baked chicken and both are good. The fried chicken is crispy and savory. You can choose which pieces you want (e.g. drumstick, thigh, breast). Compared to a fast food fried chicken place like Popeyes, I like that Soul Food Train's fried chicken is mildly seasoned with less batter and less grease. The baked chicken, all drumsticks, is served with white rice and gravy. The meat is tender, moist, and falls off the bone. It tastes homemade and I recommend it. Sides I've tried include the mac and cheese, collard greens, cabbage, and candied yams. They're A-OK. I like the mac and cheese which is made with five cheeses and small elbow macaroni. The darker orange, chewier, cheesier parts are quite tasty. The finely chopped collards are prepared with turkey, not pork. Therefore, the flavors aren't as pronounced, but still satisfying nonetheless. The chopped cabbage is tasty and the candied yams are soft, smooth, sweet, and gratifying. If it's your first time at Soul Food Train, I suggest ordering the mac and cheese and candied yams as your two sides. Chris is the owner and she'll most likely greet and serve you. She's friendly, hospitable, will treat you like family, and make you feel at home. She does everything from cooking to taking orders to serving to ringing customers up. The atmosphere is very much laid back and casual. You don't have to pay until after you've finished eating. The restaurant caters and take-out is a convenient and popular option.

Some of your favorite sides are offered on a hot bar and this is served by staff, so no worries!

If you're looking for your SOUL FOOD cravings to be satisfied when you don't feel like cooking, THIS IS YOUR SPOT! Great seasoning and tastes great every single time because they're consistent! Anytime we have family in town this is where we take them and they're never disappointed!

The food was not seasoned and the Turkey Wings were very bland for a soul food restaurant. Nice little spot but the food is not so much.

I started with an Old Fashioned and my wife got a glass of Pinot Noir. We both enjoyed our drinks. I ordered the Fried Calamari to start. They were perfectly fried and the marinara had great flavor and was an excellent compliment to the calamari. At our server's recommendation I ordered the Georgia Fried Chicken and I was supe happy with it. The chicken was excellently cooked and the hot honey (really more honey than hot) was a great addition. The Brussels sprouts were outstanding! The Asian inspired flavor made the dish. The Mac and cheese was good, but I like a lot more solid cheese rather than cheese sauce, which this one had. My wife was very satisfied with the Bistro Steak Sandwich. She loved the bread the sandwich came in. The one bite of steak I had was good, but I could have used a touch more salt. She thought it was seasoned perfectly. We had a window seat and had a nice and peaceful view of the adjacent wooded area.

I requested a table by the window--glad I did, as they don't have many booths here, and the noise level in the restaurant was quite high, so being over against a window helped. Service was good--professional, friendly, and not rushed. Bourbon meatball appetizer was amazing. My husband loved his grouper sandwich; I got the trout and it was fine but nothing special. Deducting one star for the cocktails--my Manhattan was pretty weak. Nice selection of wines, however.

First off, I love the history of this building... 1800s, supposedly the jail at some point long ago. You can just feel the history and imagine what took place in there as you sit and wait for your meal. The staff are all fun and attentive, and our server -- who was also tending bar that day -- was amazing! We were there early enough for the half priced apps, and weren't hungry enough for a full meal. I ordered a side salad with ranch, and we split the smoked nachos. When they came out, it was a huge portion and enough for both my wife and I. The only drawback is that they didn't have any sour cream that we could add to the nachos... It may seem trivial, but I've never needed anyplace that didn't have sour cream for the nachos. Because of that, I will give this a 4.75 stars. We will definitely be back!
