From South Carolina, this is by far the best Soul food restaurant I've ever been to, Great food, Great service, will be coming back

My family and I were in town for the weekend and craved soul food. A quuck search led us to this restaurant based upon top reviews. Well, we were not disappointed! The service and food were both winners! The turkey wings were so flavorful...cooked until tender! Definitely returning!

This place surprised me from the moment I walked thru the door. It's a little more upscale then your average soul food restaurant; however the prices are comparable to most. The owner, Cynthia was hands on; greeting, taking orders, conversating , etc. I enjoyed the conversation & atmosphere so much, I could've chilled there for a cpl hrs chatting it up. Now for the food...... the chops were cooked to perfection (crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside). If you consider yourself a "yam" connoisseur like I do, you will not be disappointed with theirs! The greens were perfect - not too mushy or salty. I will definitely make this my "go-to" restaurant while in Daytona.

    Decor of the restaurant.

Clean and aromatic eatery. Food was delicious and well seasoned. Service was excellent and timely. We thoroughly enjoyed our experience. The peach cobbler was delicious and worthy of another visit. Sorry began eating before we could take pictures! I would recommend the turkey wings.

Collard greens, macaroni and cheese, yams, dressing.

This spot was amazing! I was definitely pleased. The atmosphere is nice. Don't sleep on her!! I didn't have anything that I didn't like. My husband had the meatloaf and it was delicious.

Great place to stop for some real soul food. The owner Cynthia was super nice. It is a real restaurant not just take out. We loved the atmosphere and decor.

Bethune Grill also participates in the annual Battle of the Bros Chicken Wing Festival, which is an awesome event if you're a wing fan. I had a specific menu and budget and he worked within my budget while ensuring that I got every menu item I wanted. The menu was shrimp and grits....which was outstanding and delicious, lobster and scallop pasta which I couldn't get enough of and need more now! Then we had fried chicken wings with pancakes! The wings were seasoned extremely well and cooked to perfection. We also had sausage and bacon. Now I'm not sure what he did to that damn bacon but I do know my girls and I were fighting for the last slice! It was yummy. We topped it off with fresh fruit and mimosas. Last but not least, he arrived on time at 7am to begin cooking and as requested, we wanted to start eating at noon and he did not miss a beat! We were sitting down eating on time. What was even more impressive, I'm a foodie and very picky about condiments, He didn't have the type of hot sauce I liked but he ran to the store without me even asking to get it. I was speechless. And Let me tell you, he cleaned up the kitchen, loaded the dishwasher and left everything spotless. Needless to say, he has earned my business going forward! The Pink Flamingo was delicious. The biggest surprise for us was the cinnamon roll kitchen where bakers are making fresh cinnamon rolls in front of you and you can eat as many as you like! The beauty of this restaurant is that the "fish camp" fixins' are on an all-you-can-eat buffet. But your entree is made to order, fresh for you! Best of both worlds! We had 8 in our party and were delighted to know that it takes 12 for the gratuity to be automatic. That was not an issue, though. Our first server "cousin Richard" was excellent, but then he got pulled away and "cousin Bailey" took care of us. Both were delightfully friendly and very attentive. In our group we had chicken tenders, which I sampled and were some of the best I've ever had. We had shark and alligator appetizers. They were both awesome. We had sautéed shrimp and sautéed scallops. Both were swimming in a delicious buttery garlic sauce and cooked to perfection. One had meatloaf and said it was great! One had salmon. And a couple of people had the crab cakes which they also said were delicious. The sides were also good, and the "fish camp" sides were awesome. I want to especially comment on the cheese grits. As a G.R.I.T.S. (Girl raised in the south) and a devout grits snob, I give my wholehearted double thumbs-up on the grits. I thought my grandson was going to make himself sick eating so much! Final word, the cinnamon rolls were AMAZING!! Warm out of the oven and covered with sugary sauce.

First off, it didn't meet my hubby's full parking lot seal of approval. There were maybe two cars in the parking lot, and we were confused as to whether or not the restaurant was even open. We knew it was because our friends had arrived before us and were already inside. Secondly, the ambience was of a restaurant about to close. Lots of empty tables, no music playing, kind of sad tables and chairs. Next, the menu was a bit confusing. There's plates, combo plates, salad bar combo plates, sandwiches, et al. It took a bit of explaining to understand that you could get the BBQ meat and a trip to the salad bar but it doesn't come with any sides unless you want to pay extra, or a dinner plate with your choice of BBQ meat that comes with sides and an optional trip to the salad bar, but then there's choices of premium or standard sides some of which you can get with one dinner plate but not with another dinner plate. Yeah. Anyway, we ordered. Hubby opted for the meat (pulled pork) with a salad bar, and I opted for the St Louis ribs dinner plate with mac n cheese, coleslaw and corn bread. I also got a serving of the corn fritters which I always like to try at BBQ places. So the ribs were tender. They had a nice flavor and seasoning. You have a choice of several BBQ sauces. I liked the sweet and sweet mustard sauces. The mild was ok, and I'm not a hot fan so I can't comment on those. Hubby said his pulled pork was good, nothing special. The corn fritters were great; crispy on the outside and creamy goodness on the inside. But other than that, the coleslaw was very bland just chopped cabbage really without much else. The mac n cheese was plain. The corn bread was like standard corn bread and not memorable. Hubby thought the salad bar was "average." I'm not going to say we won't go back, but I think we'll be trying other BBQ venues first. For the price and what you get, the value just wasn't there. Service was quick, and the waitress was very patient in explaining the menu. So that was a plus.

The quantity of food is ok for the pricing. The taste of the pulled pork was ok. Not a real strong Smokey flavor but it was good. Sadly it was a tad dry, needed to add sauce to it to give back some moisture that was needed. As for sauces: you had mustard sauce, Smokey sauce, sweet sauce and a spicy sauce. I tried three out of four, just did not care to try the spicy sauce. My favorite of the three I tried was the mustard sauce which had a rather sweet taste and a slight twang of the mustard. For me it was the best balance of sauce flavoring offered. The Smokey and Sweet sauces actually tasted really close to each other and not a real defining differences. Then for the brisket, it looked good, nice small line of bark on it. Sadly though just by looking at it, I could tell this was dry and over cooked. Very small smoke ring at the edge and the meat was completely over done and so dry when I cut it with my fork it broke into lots of pieces, not because of it being tender but it was so dry. Had a hard time using my fork to stab it and wound up using my spoon to gather it up to eat because it broke up so much. Taste was not bad outside of the dryness. Way disappointed in this joint. Had the makings and smells of a great place. Just very dry meat with the pork and brisket. And others eating with us had a burger and it was over cooked and dry as well. The baked beans had a ok flavor, but needed help so I injected some money sauce to help and that worked. The potato salad was very plain and no real flavor sadly. I love potato salad and wish I chosen another side item that this. Service was good and not too bad. Little slow since there was pretty much no one in the joint. But they were nice folks. Hoping today was just an off day for them. Otherwise a very fair tasting BBQ joint.
