It's hard to find Good soul food here in the Central Valley! Great food worth the wait! The owners were very nice & attentive! Thank you for your hospitality & making us feel at home! We'll be back!

Cat fish and greens with a homemade sweet tea..

Just ate lunch with my pops and I'm impressed to say the least . Chef Rock prepared some of the best greens and cat fish I've ever had.. food was fresh and seasoned to perfection. My pops git the Mac and cheese and black eyed peas and he said they were delicious . I'll definitely be back real soon to try everything else on the menu .. If you're looking for some soul food thats made with some love and are in tulare area ,this the spot!!

Stopped by on the way back from LA heading to Sac. Felt like having some soul food. Was very surprised that Tulare had soul food. Who appeared to be the owner was very pleasant. We ordered the breaded ribs, the swai and the mac & cheese. Great prices. Food was tasty. The owner also gave us an extra side of greens. Yummy. The outdoor seating provided cool r&b sounds, but we sat in the car to ate because of a couple of pesky flies.

Kind of expensive for Soul Good served up flavorful dishes unique to the area. I placed my order online and I had a difficult time finding the restaurant front. There was a single sign near an alleyway indicating the location. Unfortunately there wasn't any coleslaw so I had to change to another side when I arrived. Notably there wasn't a lunch special anymore. I ordered the entree plate which included a main and 2 sides. *Fried Swai: wasn't crispy but wasn't heavy nor oily either. There was still a distinct smell to the fish but the salty coating masked some of the fishiness. This was served with hot sauce and remoulade. The hot sauce was very acidic and there wasn't as much heat as desired. The remoulade could have used some of the acidity and I was craving a stronger pickle essence to take away from the saltiness. *Yams: favorite item. There was pleasant browning and sweetness on the yams. These were incredibly rich and tender. This honestly served as a dessert. *Turkey Chili: the sauce was meaty and savory but I wished it had seeped into the turkey. The turkey was still on the chunkier side so the seasoning didn't penetrate the center, leaving some gaminess. Good potential but could have been executed better. Not the cheapest of dining options but I did enjoy the stronger flavors. Most items were flavorful as is so although the sauces weren't the best, I didn't need them. Otherwise, the execution needs some work but there's tons of potential.

We were craving soul food; so we were pretty excited when we found this place on Yelp. We drove there ; about five minutes away; kinda hard to find, hidden in an alley with narrow and scarce parking spots. The owner and the staff member greeted us and talked to us about the menu. Made it hard to choose what to order. We went with the two meat and two side option . The meats we chose were the fried fish and the fried ribs ; and greens and Mac and cheese as the sides. I never had fried ribs ; and honestly was craving bbq ribs that fall off the bone smothered in some kick ass bbq sauce. Someone told us the sweet potatoes were good so we added this side for about $6.50. We also added two sweat teas ; which were a dollar each . Took about twenty or so minutes; waited outside on the patio at first( but decided to wait in the car; way too many bugs flying around. Bug spray or those insect repellent lamps, might be a good idea. Felt like I was getting bit up by mosquitoes and nats. When the food was ready we took it home and was excited to dig in. Let's start off with the fish; it was fried and tender; and warm still; tasted pretty good. Then it was the fried rib; ummm let's just say I probably wouldn't order these again. The five cheese Mac and cheese didn't taste like anything I ever had. First it was spiral pasta; being African American elbow pasta is what we're known to use; so this was unusual surprise. Definitely didn't taste five cheeses;one for sure maybe two at the most. The greens were alright; still trying to figure out what kind of diced meat that was. The sweet potatoes; tasted straight from a glory can; just doctored up a bit. Unfortunately was very dissatisfied with this meal completely. The sweet tea was the worst tea I ever had; I was thinking this tea was going to be overly sweet; sweet enough to make my body go into a diabetic coma; however there was absolutely no sugar whatsoever in this tea. It was awful. I had to go home and add sugar just to make it drinkable. Not sure if they tasted it before they served it ; but was missing the key ingredient which was SUGAR. Would I be back? Absolutely not.

Great food! Wait is a little long so be prepared to wait for your food. But remember soul food is not fast food. Was in town for a business trip and found this spot. Owner is really good guy and he apologized for the long wait but it was just him working the register and the grill. Would definitely come back

Owner is very attentive and sweet! First time trying soul food, and was DELISH! He went above and beyond, making sure we had a cover and heater when it unexpectedly started to rain. Outside is spacious. All around 10/10 can't wait to come back

After waiting to get in it took 40 minutes to get our food if not longer. We got a few things 1. Fried chicken - it was good, crispy and juicy 2. Ribs - we hated these they were drenched in sauce. I would prefer sauces on the side. It ruined them and they were on the tough side. 3. Rice and gravy - enjoyed this 4. Spaghetti - it wasn't bad but it wasn't good either. Had a strange aftertaste 5. Spicy cabbage - it was not spicy it was sweet and gooey and it was not good 6. Cornbread - a bit burnt for our liking 7. Lemon pudding cake - this was decent but also overly sweet. By the time we left the staff warmed up to having people there. They also charged 2 dollars for water which I thought was not okay. Water should be free at any restaurant. We paid 6 dollars for koolaid as well which is very high but it was good. Our entire bill was 46 and I feel like for what we got it wasn't a good deal. The restrooms were disgusting. I am not sure if I would be back. I was really looking forward to this place but I'll stick with chef Paul's.

I got mashed potatoes and macaroni on the side (they were delicious but definitely regretted not trying other sides). The rib tips were perfect, smokey and tender. The fried chicken was sooo crispy and juicy. I do prefer crispier waffles, but it still went well with the very crispy chicken. The portions are plentiful, I had enough for a second meal.

Our favorite: fried green tomatoes and okra for appetizers. The sauce was awesome. 5 stars! The sides: collard greens were very salty for my taste but full of flavor. Rice pilaf was flavorful but was also salty. Sweet potatoes were perfect. Corn bread was just ok. 4 start. We met Chef Paul himself. He was nice and very funny! The restaurant is small so there will be a wait. We got there around 2pm so we didn't have to wait too long. Maybe just 20 mins. We'll be back for sure if we're back on that side again.

Lord where do I even START!! This place is amazing beyond belief I'm not kidding!…read more We made a reservation for a company luncheon with 16 of us. Made it 1 week in advance and they were set and ready for us! The employees are so sweet and helpful and the food came out before the other half of the table even finished ordering I'm not kidding! The fried chicken combo (3 piece) was phenomenal! I got Mac n cheese with yams and cornbread and then added on a chili for extra $ Everything was piping hot so it was very fresh. The chicken was juicy as all hell and that flavor oh my gosh! Best fried chicken I've ever had. The yams were so sweet and flavorful all the way through, and the Mac n cheese had a nice crust with the perfect creamy texture to it! The cornbread was as good as any and the chili beans had the perfect kick! I do prefer a more soupy meat based chili myself but no complaints here! A lot of my coworkers had the fried fish and were RAVING about it! The type of fish they use really shows in the taste and quality! The spicy fried fish was good as well and the sea food gumbo was also delicious all according to the table! Prices are to be expected, it's not your cheapest option but babe it's the yummiest so get on over there! The inside is cute and cozy and they accommodated our party size nicely. They had some good music playing in the kitchen too which we appreciated! Nonetheless DONT MISS THIS PLACE! Please come support and give them your business! On Friday's, the truck is out at the Manchester Center farmer's market. We tried the jerk wings, pulled pork sandwich, hush puppies, and sweet potato fries. I would say the wings are the crown jewel of the menu. They remained crispy despite the delicious sauce that was slathered on it. The sauce was quite delicious itself, with just the right amount of sweetness and spice. The pulled pork was dressed in a "sweet and sassy" sauce, which was rather tangy. It seemed to be more of a vinegar based sauce. The coleslaw was also on the tangy side. The bun was slightly toasted as well, a nice added touch. Next on the list, hush puppies. They were great! Crispy and slightly spicy with a hint of jalapeño. On to the sweet potato fries; they were different. There was some type of sweet savory seasoning on the fries. It reminded me of Thanksgiving. Overall, the food tasted good. I would definitely check this place out again, especially since they were not serving mac n cheese on the day we went out to try their food. Next time fore sure!
