When you are in Union Market there are so many food choices to choose from but Puddin is a place you will want to come back to. We come here all the time for the bread pudding but this time we brought a group. Always pleasant and lively, Puddin reminds me of southern hospitality at its finest. The bread pudding is served warm and rich with chunks of bread and browned butter and bourbon flavors throughout. Add the creamy homemade vanilla pudding on top and we never leave without it. We also got to sample a new alcoholic beverage that was heavenly. Cannot remember the name but if you go to the front counter they will give you a sample of the mixer. Trust me, you will want to order it. The gumbo was a crowd favorite. One sample and the flavor made you want to double back. My guests walked the area and came back specifically to get some to take home. They boxed it up separately for easy transport. Now that is service. Quick and easy stop right before it rained. Puddin is a complete takeout spot but the vibes while you order and wait make it a counter worth visiting again and again. On my DC visit my friend told me this place was good and she didn't lie. The bread puddin is what I went for and it didn't disappoint. Boyfriend and I went to Union Market for a post-dinner sweet treat. I saw this place all over TikTok, I knew I needed that Brown Butter Bourbon Bread Pudding. They give free samples for NEARLY ALL of their food, I mentioned I traveled to DC from CA, and the workers gave me a sample of one of everything on the menu! Gosh, I have never experienced such AMAZING customer service! My boyfriend loved the etouffee and my favorite was the gumbo sample. We were so stuffed from our previous dinner, and couldn't order more. We noticed everything on the menu was VERY affordable for DC pricing and gave good portions. We ended up opting for the bread pudding, and finished it in minutes. The bread pudding feels like a warm hug, and is a MUST with the ice cream. I went to Union Market today to work. I was there late morning and it wasn't very busy so I decided to get Puddin' for an early lunch. I got the shrimp n grits with fried shrimp as recommended by the staff member who took my order. It was delicious. The parm grits are well seasoned and paired perfectly with the hot, crispy shrimp. Had Mother's Day brunch with a friend and decided to walk to Union Market for dessert. We haven't been to Puddin' in a minute so we headed to that food stall. Immediately greeted when we walked up to place our order. Service was fast probably because they didn't have to cook anything. OMG, the Puddin's Famous Brown Butter Bourbon Bread Puddin' was so good. Not too sweet, perfect crumb to the bread with some crispy bits to bring it home, moist and the perfect amount of bourbon. Definitely worth more trips to Union Market. read more

The shrimp po'boy was DELICIOUS! I'll breakdown the flavors starting with the bread. That was some of the most soft and fresh baked bread that I've ever had. Not sure if it's baked at the location but the level of freshness was amazing. Next, have you ever experienced a flavor collision dish? That's when the right flavors are paired together and your taste buds spirals into a collision lol deliciousness overload!!!!! It started with the shrimps, which I only wished were fried a little more to prevent the batter from slipping off because of the moisture surrounding it. Nonetheless, they were fresh, quite generous, and bursting with flavor. Also not overcooked. Paired with a sauce and another sauce from the coleslaw, this dish gave a little sweet and a little spicy at the same time-loved it. Great quality for the price. I've been CRAVING some banging Southern food, and I found it here on a whim. Puddin used to be a food truck but is now a stall in Union Market. The staff are so sweet, I was originally tempted by the free samples, and wow... I really trust them because of their transparency, and I love how they literally let me try everything on the menu before ordering. That shows me also how they KNOW their food is good enough to make people wanna buy and try more!!! Étouffée has been on my list to try, and I'm so happy I got to try it here. I absolutely love Cajun and Southern food (gumbo and jambalaya are some of my favorites) so I was curious how the flavors here would live up to what I remember from New Orleans. The étouffée was creamy and incredibly flavorful. So rich!!! I ordered the stew served with rice instead of grits, and it had fragrant Cajun spices, deep seafood flavor, and a creamy roux. So delicious when warm. The fried shrimp on top were perfection too--juicy, plump shrimp!! EAT THE STEW WHEN IT'S STEAMING HOT AND FRESHLY POURED!! Also, get the iced tea. Like genuinely, it was so good. Better than an Arnold Palmer and better than any sweet tea I've ever had. Sweet but perfectly balanced with lemon, and it tasted so fresh. Gosh, I miss it already. When I saw I could get shrimp etouffee in Union Market, I knew I had to try it. When we arrived at the stand, they asked if we wanted to sample anything. I sampled the etouffee and it was incredible so I ordered it with steamed shrimp. It had so much flavor, I could have licked the cup after. It had a bit of a kick, but I didn't find it too spicy. The portion size was also good for the price. I also got an order of the bourbon bread pudding. The bread pudding was great, just be aware that the bourbon flavor is very strong. I ordered through the DoorDash app & the cobblers came hot & ice cream was a little melted but not too bad & I was still able to enjoy it with my cobbler. The churros were also good but they were a little hard. I'm assuming we didn't get a fresh batch. My recommendation is to add another scoop of ice cream as the serving was small compared to the cobbler serving. Also if you want churros go in to order them. First off customer service 1000/10.I believe it was the owner she was very personable, offered samples of everything which sold us immediately. Came there for iced tea which was amazing left there with red beans rice which was my absolute favorite, gumbo that was so rich with crab meat and sausage and chicken & that delicious bread pudding I didn't know I needed.
