Absolutely great employees who greeted us when we entered the building. First time eating here. The pulled pork was absolutely delicious. The ribs were not that good. They were dry and hard to get the meat off the bone. The brisket was average. The bread was cold and hard. The potato salad was more like mashed potato salad. Worst Soulman's in the DFW area! Walked in and after watching me look over the menu and approach with my order, proceeded to tell me they are out of chicken, brisket and pull pork. So I reluctantly placed an order and after paying, found that every table in the place was dirty, covered in previous diner's left overs except for the 3 tables that had someone sitting at them. I went up and ordered a build your own bowl with mashed potatoes, corn, and both meats Being brisket, came home and split it with my wife and the beef is so salty that we spit it out and threw the whole thing away. Absolutely terrible plus the fact that most of the bowl was mashed potatoes and hardly any corn. Do yourself a favor and go somewhere else. On March 16th, THE LORD said i could go eat at Soulman's BBQ in Greenville, TX! I was very excited because I knew that that meant the food would be good!!! Brett had contacted me because the owners and management are very concerned about the quality of the food! And they value Soulman's reputation as a business. That's why I usually contact them when my food isn't good!!! They offered to make sure that I could get my food replaced!!! To be truthful, I stopped by a couple of times after I spoke with Brett, but they had no ribs, so I finally gave up!!! A friend of mine says the Soulman's in Royce City in absolutely the best!!! I wouldn't know. I haven't ever eaten there. Anyway, as I said, I stopped by 2 Sundays ago, because I knew if THE LORD was sending me by, the food would be worth my while!!! It definitely was!!! I asked for a rib to make sure they were good!!! The one the lady gave me was well-seasoned and very meaty!!! I was very PLEASED!!!! I bought a half rack of ribs by themselves, and then a 2 meat plate with sides!!! for my 1st meat, I went ahead and got the Chopped Brisket, and asked for extra BBQ Sauce cause I knew I would need it!!! I never get the sliced brisket because their brisket isn't ever well seasoned. That's why I always ask for extra sauce!!! I have asked why the brisket isn't well-seasoned and I was told they have been making it the same way for years, and everyone likes it that way!!! Of course, they're incorrect. They'd sell a whole lot more brisket, if they'd season it well, but of course, that's just my opinion!!! Anyway, their BBQ Sauce is awesome, but they value it so highly that I refuse to buy that small a bottle at their list price. The ribs I had on Sunday were absolutely wonderful!!! I actually wish I had bought a whole rack of ribs instead of a half rack!!! Oh, and I had 2 sides of okra which were both delightfully, yummy!!! I just wish the food was always this good!!! Food was good but not up to the Solan standard. Several tables were dirty even though only two other people were in the place. Ice Cream machine was noon working. No lemon juice out, out of spoons and knives. Place was not busy for the condition it was in. We eat at several Soulmans but this was not up to the best. No one seemed interested in taking care of things to the company standard. I was disappointed. Only one team member seemed to be concerned and trying to help. The potato salad isn't even a potato salad anymore they now use just mashed potatoes in it so it's more like mashed potato salad and hardly had any fixings in it. This is the second Soulman's location I have tried - do they even have a pitmaster? the brisket had no bark, no smoke ring, and no flavor. Felt and tasted like it was boiled! Look the sausage was good, but your "pitmaster" needs to attend a how to smoke a brisket course. If you are looking for BBQ and it is a choice between here and Arbys, go to Arbys. read more

We decided to use the drive thru this time around as we usually go in and the lady speaking to us was very rude and snarky and if my fiancé didn't answer the second she asked something she'd repeat it with even more attitude. She made it very clear that we were inconveniencing her. We noticed several Soulman's BBQ places while traveling through TX and it made us hungry for BBQ! We stopped for the night in Greenville and there was a Soulman's right next to our hotel so we figured it was a "sign". It was 45 minutes till closing and as we walked in, we were greeted by every employee in sight. We shared a plate of ribs, brisket, and pulled pork with sides of mashed potatoes, Mac N Cheese, and fried okra. Everything was delicious and the two of us could not eat everything. They are right when they say, "we're not stingy with our meat!" The helping were huge and the helpings were tasty! The chopped beef is brisket actually run through a meat grinder for a very good consistency. My only criticism of the ground beef would be the fat that runs through it. The turkey is fabulous and the pulled pork is great. They have a large selection of sides and they are all very friendly. I've had a lot of barbecue; some better some worse. Really friendly staff. The stuffed potato was great! You get a lot of food for what you pay for. The brisket had a really nice flavor to it. I really enjoyed the BBQ sauce. This location is probably one of the better Soulman's BBQ joints. They get pretty busy during lunch time on Saturday. So I recommended getting there around 11Am or 12pm. You cannot go wrong with anything you order. One other item to note, is that this place has lots of regulars who don't seem to be the type to make online reviews. This place will definitely hit the spot if your in this area craving bbq. read more

Stopped by here for a quick lunch and I was pleasantly surprised! Honestly I was a little hesitant coming here due to the mediocre reviews, however, something must have changed because I had an awesome experience. Upon entering the restaurant I was nicely greeted by 3 different people and was offered help with the menu. I decided to go with the build your own plate option, which by the way was awesome! The interior is clean, nice and very "Texas". The food tastes great and the customer service is on point. I definitely will be back for more when back in the area. read more

This might actually be some of the worst BBQ I've ever had. Which is quite sad considering this is Texas. Where you can usually throw a rock and at least find average BBQ. Go a bit further and you'll find something awesome. We stopped by on our way through town to try out this near-by high rated place. It was busy, which is usually a good sign. But then saw they had a drive-through, which is not a good sign. Once inside, they have a cafeteria style ordering system. You tell them the meats you want. The clearly depressed staff put them on a plate, then you grab your own sides as you work your way through. They don't actually list the sides anywhere. So you'd want to browse around first, as there are quite a few to chose from. In either case, we had a variety of items. Sausage, Brisket, mashed potatoes, mac & cheese, toast, and a few other items I've forgotten already. The sausage was about the only thing "edible." Even though it was mostly bland and flavorless. Which is something I can say for just about everything on our plates. The brisket was also dry. The tea tasted of dirt. Honestly, I could only take a few bites of everything, and then just left. Which is just terrible. Especially when you consider how expensive this place is. They charge normal "good BBQ" prices. Or about $15 for a plate of inedible food. I should also note there is a Bell by the door one should ring for good food. Nobody run the bell while we were there. read more

My family and I come here pretty often. Sometimes we get the same workers and they already know what we all want: pulled pork combo! We always get the same thing because it's honestly a really good deal. It's $7.99 for the combo which comes with a pulled pork sandwich, two sides, and a fountain drink. There aren't too many sides you can choose from but from the sides available, they are pretty good! The pulled pork tastes pretty good but I've definitely had better! This meal fills me up and a lot of the time I can't even finish my whole meal. I guess even though it's not as good as some BBQ places, it's a good bang for your buck! There's also complimentary ice cream and you can get as much as you want! Although today their ice cream machine was broken so we didn't get to eat any :( Overall, this place has decent BBQ but great value. Friday they have fried catfish and it tastes good!! At least if you advertise as much as Soulman's does but still offer shitty food, you have some conviction behind what you're serving. Soulman's is just plain boring. The pulled pork meat was great, with nice texture and not too much fat, but the rub/marinade they use needed more spice and salt to it because it had no flavor. The sauce on it was too runny and wouldn't stick to the meat properly. The bun on the sandwich was decent, but they could step up the game by steaming them or lightly toasting them instead of just pulling it out of a bag and plopping it on a plate. The corn on the cob was adequate but mushy and overcooked, which is surprising considering we ate there about 10 minutes after they opened. Sausage and turkey are good, but the lack of flavor in all the meats (minus sausage) leaves me all the more baffled that they trim all the natural flavor off before serving. And mixed with Soulman's sweet and tangy BBQ sauce, was just perfect for it! I was about to break out into tongues with how good this meat was and they loaded my plate up! It was worth $15 just for the meat. However, I wasn't as excited about the sides. There are lots of choices but looked like they had been under a heat lamp all day. I went with Mac and cheese and it was ok. Potato salad was a good choice. It had a strong mustard - mayo taste to it. It was better than the mac and cheese. Sweet tea was refreshing. By the taste of the meat and sauce itself, I'm giving it a 5. Choose wisely with sides. I would go with the potato salad or slaw since it is chilled and not under a heat lamp all day. read more
