No smoky ring on this brisket
    Roderick J.

Well this was disappointing. The worst BBQ brisket ever . Usually brisket has a nice smoke ring . Not this time , see image of meat. The ribs were just ok , a couple were so chewy we couldn't eat them . The sausage was good. On the bright side the cream corn and fries excellent. Never had this issue before . 972-345-3180

Had the brisket sandwich and beans and potato salad very tasty and easy parking if you drive a big rig. Will be back to Royce city location

    Easy to spot.

Hmmmmmm good! Hubby said some of the best robs he eaten anywhere in the country. Chicken falls off the bone and sliced marbled brisket. Was tender and juicy. Lots of homemade sides and desserts.the pecan was just right not too sweet. Let's talk about the bbq sauce...... perfect not too sweet or tangy. Deserves the 5 stars. Tons of trucker seat here so that tells you something! Get your gas at Buc-cees but eat your bbq here!

Ribs, brisket, Texas toast, spicy beans and cabbage

The staff was friendly, but the meat was not very flavorful. You'll need to soak it in their spicy sauce to get some flavor. The sides were mediocre as well. I'm not sure what was lacking. . . There was a nice Texas presentation of food. The picture with the brisket sandwich was take two for me though. I slathered the meat in spicy sauce and asked for bread that was not toasted to make a sandwich. I went and got the cream corn and French fries since another reviewer recommended those sides. I'm sad to say, I'm still not impressed because the fries were too soggy and the cream corn was a little harder than expected. It could have been an off day, so give them a chance. Other family members have loved the place.

Older location, kind of a truck stop also. Dirt & crushed rock parking lot. and watch the Ditch up front! LOL

Because of what happened at Smoke Sessions, we'll be finding a new BBQ spot. My husband stopped by today and walked into a nearly empty restaurant. He waited about five minutes for someone to acknowledge him. After calling out and still receiving no assistance, he considered leaving--but stayed because he knows how much I enjoy their food. While he was waiting, another customer walked in. Suddenly, a staff member appeared and immediately helped that customer, completely overlooking my husband--as if he wasn't even there. For context, my husband is 6'6", so he's not exactly easy to miss. When my husband spoke up and asked if she saw him waiting, she responded by saying she knew the other customer and his order, as if that justified ignoring him. It didn't. From our perspective, the only clear difference between the two customers was race--and that's deeply upsetting. We will not support a business where basic respect and fairness aren't extended to everyone. To make matters worse, she later offered his food for free, which he declined. We don't want free food--we expect to be treated with dignity and respect, just like any other customer. If someone isn't comfortable serving all people equally, then customer service is not the right place for them. It's really that simple.

They've been around long before the current BBQ craze. I used to eat at their Dallas Location back in the 1990s but, haven't been in 25 years. After fighting major construction congestion and stop and go detours,I finally pulled into the pot holed, gravel parking lot in front of the red 1980ish red metal building that is Bakers Ribs . I was also in search of The Original Fried Pie Company which happened to share space . Entering I found what I expected. Well worn old school roadside Texas BBQ place, just getting by . As with almost everyone else, they've upgraded to a thin screen digital overhead menu. I hate those things because they have no soul...yada,yada,yada I ordered the chopped beef sandwich and waited about five minutes for the few in front of me to gradually get their order filled by the one person, chopping meat, frying fries and filling orders . The vibe is worn out ,we tried western kitch decor in 1980. That's ok but, this is a sad little place that's seen its better day. Regressing slightly. When I first entered a case of various fried pies was the first thing I came to. More on that later . Pouring myself a unsweetened ice tea,I sat down to hopefully enjoy my sandwich. It was better than I expected, and after doctoring it up with onions, jalapeno, pickles and sauce,it passed my test, barely. I wish them well but,I probably won't go back. The owners need to either recomit to increasing the quality of their food and service or? Now to the fried pies. Yumalicious! I bought 6 at $3 75 each. 2 Cherry,2 Apple,2 Peach. I put three in the freezer and left the others out for consumption. Wow. Warmed up under the broiler and served alongside BlueBell Vanilla, niezzzz! Overall my experience was a whiff of the past. That going, going, gone place on the side of the highway that's just good enough to keep you going ,to the next detour.

The brisket was tender, flavorful, and had that perfect smoke ring and bark you hope for in Texas barbecue. The beans were hearty and had shredded meat in them -- they were good, just a little spicier than my usual style. The mac & cheese was awesome -- creamy, cheesy, and the perfect comfort side. The barbecue sauce was spot-on too ~ rich, tangy, and full of flavor. The outdoor setup adds to the experience ~ picnic tables under a covered area, stacks of wood, and that unmistakable BBQ aroma in the air. It's got that laid-back, small-town Texas charm where everyone's just enjoying good food and good company. The lady who took our order was so sweet and welcoming -- a true example of Southern hospitality. She made the experience even better! The line wasn't long, and we didn't have to wait too long for our food -- a big plus on a busy day. They also have banana bread pudding, which I didn't get to try this time, but it's on my list for next visit. Overall, Smoak Town BBQ is a solid spot that earns its Texas Monthly Top 50 recognition. Great food, friendly service, and an authentic Texas BBQ vibe. I only give HONEST and TRUE Reviews from the Heart. Thank you for taking the time to read it & react to it.

My hubs and I drove an hour and a half just for it tonight! It's sad to see a location that does not even try to care to live up to the wonderful, high standard, highly sought after experience of the Buc-ee's legacy. We wanted to get some chicken and fries and ofc the sliced brisket sandwiches. We just wanted to ask if there were more boxes (of the chicken and fries) or a fresh box in the back or coming out. There was a young white boy and older Latina right there. Just staring at us and then each other- trying to avoid eye contact with us. And looking at each other- like you help them. We even said excuse me, and tried smiling and waving at them to ask for help. My husband even said- it's just a quick question. It'd be much faster and easier if you just help us. Lol I walked to the center and asked another lady. Younger Latina- if there was someone who could help us and she walked over right away to get the same people's attention. Then she pointed to an older white lady who was coming through a door from the back and said she'll help you. As I went to thank her the other, older Latina woman came up to act like she was going to help us. I turned and thanked the younger Latina for her help and said "it's ok I'll wait for her (looking towards the white older woman coming out), because they were trying to avoid helping or even looking at us." Then the older Latina woman walks up to the older white woman and says can you help them please with a look as if we didn't want to be bothered with her. The audacity! I am a Latina myself which is why I'm even writing this review. 1. You can't give horrible service and then try to pretend to help when the boss comes out. 2. You can't play the race card on yourself simply because you don't want to do your job. 3. And with this Latina- you sure can't play the victim when you and your young coworker choose to be unapproachable employees in a high value customer service establishment. Maybe you shouldn't work at Buc-ee's if you don't want to uphold their quality standards for excellent customer service- or in your case the bare minimum to acknowledge another human being while on clock. One positive I will say for this location was that your cashier Shirley (an older white woman- and I only reference her ethnicity to ensure that if word gets back to anyone who cares about this review- the right Shirley gets the recognition!) at the door- was pleasant the moment we walked in till the moment we finished paying and left. Nonetheless, it's safe to say- we'll never be visiting this location again. Btw- the sliced brisket sandwiches were garbage. So disappointing, but I guess fitting to match the service.
