I have trusted this business three times in the past and each time the service performed always needs reworking due to poor quality. I made a huge mistake by letting them work on my Porsche 911, it took them weeks longer than they promised, and they gave it back to me with multiple scratches in the interior, estimated over $5000 dollars in damages. The guys did great work on my 4Runner. I added Dynamat, the rear speakers, and the front door 6 1/2's. It was a complete Focal Flax system once they did the install of the dash pods and pillar tweeters. SS&S also wired up a 6.1200 for the door/dash components and a 1.1500 for the JL anniversary edition 12" boxed sub. I already had an Alpine ilx509 driving the whole system. The quality of the components and the expertise of the technicians made for a sweet sounding system. Very smooth sounds and I can really drive the bass with just a little knob twist. Not cheap by any means but in car audio you really get what you pay for. The only tiny critique I have is that while I really knew what I wanted, it would've been nice to have more selection and modification ideas discussed in advance. It's dangerous enough for me to hang around their showroom as I come up with all sorts of new equipment I want. Great quality, clean installs, and friendly staff. read more

Used these guys a week ago. Had them upgrade my speakers and add a decent woofer to my 2005 Z71. The truck is in great shape with several customizations. I installed a high end Alpine stereo head. well I picked it up and the windows were down. They wouldn't go up. I decided to take it home to troubleshoot it myself. I took the drivers side apart. They cut my control cable bundle. Therefore the windows , mirrors , and other controls were not functional. I replaced the bundle. expensive and time consuming. they also drilled a large hole into my firewall. Left a rough opening with no rubber plug to keep water out. The hole was not necessary. Poor workmanship. I nor my family will never use these hacks again. read more

This is a year after doing business... I had a stereo, and back up camera installed, and a light bar that needed a relay. At the time the work was done I noticed that they hadn't secured some of the wiring, and they charged to fix the light bar but never actually fixed it. Upon further inspection of the light bar they installed a new switch in a random place by the lower area breaking the plastic panel there. They then ran a wire to nothing. Not sure what the thought was there? When I called a day after pick up and pointed out the issues I had seen and asked if I could get a refund for the labor associated with the light bar the (claimed owner) refused. A year later I have had to redo everything. They broke several components to include not wiring the stereo properly causing a short frying my gauge cluster. It seems, from reading the reviews at least, that the quality of craftsmanship is a fairly new issue (within the last couple years). I think if they got some new leadership in there, specifically someone who has experience running a shop and implementing a good QA process then they'll get back on track. More important, when my client brought her vehicle in to have the work done, will she be happy ? The answer is yes. She was delighted with her treatment and timely installation process. I went to this store twice. First time around was very quick in and out. I was given a speaker mount/adapter that didn't exactly fit and so I went back the next day. Even though the store policy is not to give refunds, they were able to exchange the product without question. My second visit was very helpful. A store representative worked with me at the car for quite a while and made sure the speaker would fit in my car door panel. I wen back home and was able to mount that speaker without issue. The other reassuring thing was that there was a Kid there that had blown his sub. They took a look at it, determined it was not his fault, and replaced it on the spot. There where no excuses, or trying to deny warranty. Josh came up with 3 solutions at various price points to get where I needed to be. The system sounds awesome, and is VERY customizable for getting the exact sound you want. Bonus points there. I am not sure what these reviews complaining about markups are about? All the quoted prices match the MSRP / Amazon prices I found. The labor rate is not cheap, but also is in the markets average price for a competent install. By the way, the install looks seamless. I contacted this business over one week ago- because I wanted to have two flood lights and a "ring" doorbell installed on my mother's house, as a birthday gift. I called the Sound Station in Smithfield and they referred me to the Raleigh location (that does home security). My mother lives approximately 30 miles from the Raleigh location. I live out of state, I wanted to set everything up and pay for it. The guy that answered the phone was very informative and he directed my call to "Wile"(not sure of spelling). I left a detailed message, but no callback. I called one week later. Spoke to another gentleman, he referred me to another guy "Peter" and even took my info for Peter to call me back. I don't know what else to say about this place other than AWFUL. Back in February I had a car brought in to have an amp and sub (my own)wired and installed for $491.00 It sounded good however fast forward to June, I gave the car to my mother-in-law and took out the amp and sub to use in another vehicle. To my surprise, the amp had a huge sheet metal screw driven in through the top to secure the HOT wire! Additionally metal shavings were all over the trunk. Unfortunately, the person who picked up the car for me did not inspect the work. I call up there and speak to someone name Wahud/Walid/Whatever. He say's come on in. I get there and some guy named Josh is there. So I speak to him. He asks me was I sure the amp was not like that when it was brought in. I say absolutely not and showed him pictures. So we discuss compensation. All I really wanted to do was highlight the SHITTY job his guy did. They offer me an amp of equal value and promises to call me the next day or so. I wait 14 days and NO CALL. So I text Wahud/Walid/Whatever and he tells me they'll work on it, blah blah blah and I should call him. At this point I decide to cut my losses and stop wasting my time. If that was their intention to make it right, they would have done so that day instead of backhandedly asserting I brought in a damaged amp. Get this, I only paid 169 bucks from Crutchfield and it was in a Maxima previously. I certainly am not going to damage an amp like that and expect it be used again. Of course I took photos and if I had given them a bad amp, why were there metal shavings in my trunk? Mind you, I don't drive this car much at all. So the idiot who installed it did the cutting while in the car and never had the decency to "hide" his shitty work by cleaning the trunk! I belong to a very large motorcycle club and know a lot of people who like music on their bikes and in their cars. I tell everyone I come in contact with that this place is not the place to go. It's already "off limits" to our MC (over 200 members). All they had to do was replace the amp with one of equal value and specs. I wasn't asking for a "top-of-the-line" replacement. Wish I could give negative stars. Took my kids car here to get her audio system checked because her touch screen went black. The car ran well, no other issues...just the audio. They kept the car for 3 hours to tell her what "might" be wrong and charged her $140+. When I asked the owner Wiley why it was so much & took so long to not even get a definitive answer on what was wrong, he explained how they had to take everything apart. Well she got home and went back out to the car about an hour later and the car was completely dead. Her key fob wouldn't even unlock it & she didn't have the shank inside the fob. We called AAA & he came & unlocked it. We told him what happened and where we took the car. He immediately said OH NO! They are known to mess cars up. I've heard this a lot about them. This is a stranger who works for AAA telling us this. When he unlocked the car it went into theft mode. She ordered a new shank to insert into the car & take it off theft mode. That came in a few days later and still the car was dead. We had to jump it. Leave it off for a little while it would go completely dead again. The battery is 5 months old, alternator was replaced last year. Yet her battery is being drained rapidly by something and it wasn't doing any of that before we took it to sound and stupid. Called a mechanic to let them know what happened and once again another person said I know exactly the place you're taking about because I've heard this a few times before about that place. Take it back to them and tell them to fix whatever they messed up. I called early but they were not there (manager or owner) so I left a detailed message with another employee & he said they'd call me. I ended up calling back. I spoke to Josh & he said he heard what happened...he's the manager. He then told me that he checked with the people who worked on her car and all they did was take the radio out. A different story than what Wiley the owner said so I reminded him of that and we agreed that they would look at it to figure out what was causing the drain. I could tell they had already made up their mind to not take responsibility for it. I had also read the reviews on google by then and saw how the owner Wiley talked wreckless in his replies to unsatisfied customers never taking responsibility for any damages or horrible service. After dropping the car off with them and leaving it for 5.5 hours they ignored my calls trying to get an update. We went back up there around 5:30 and I asked if the phone worked...it did but they had caller ID so they purposely ignored my calls because they had done absolutely nothing to the car all that time. Wiley then tried to fast talk me after making me wait & pretending not to see me, saying the battery is completely dead. Duhhhh...that's why it's here. He said he think it's the battery but they're going to test it. I said all this time and you haven't done that yet? That's why we bought it back. I said my issue is it been here 5.5 hours & her car worked fine before you all messing with the radio. Wiley got loud and said "OK I DID IT...It's my fault". It was downhill from there. I demanded to be taken to the car and warned everyone to read his reviews before letting them touch their car. Wiley clearly wanted to argue with 2 women & apparently thought he could play with me but I'm not a kid & I don't scare easily. He continued to argue and told us that it's customers like us that their cars messed up. Idk if he meant black women or people who don't let him get away with damaging their vehicles in general. We got her car fixed somewhere else as well as a detailed report on what they messed up & we will not be paying the repair bill alone for something they messed up. They are terrible. Went in and scheduled an amp and sub install. Came back a week later for the job. Was told my NVX wiring kit was a good kit but preferred not to use. After having my vehicle for several hours they called and said my subs would not fit in the box they wanted to use and offered to trade my Sundown's for alpines that would(such a joke). They had to order a box that would work which I was told would take like two weeks to arrive. They left my amp connected and it KILLED my battery. If I cant get it to charge or its damaged they WILL be replacing it. read more

This place is great, I bought a newer Tundra Crew max and previous owner took out speakers, dealer out in cheap ones...sounded like crap, wanted a good quality sound system, thought I could get away with some new speakers, Wile (I think he is owner) priced an incredible system, it was top of the line, that was way out if my budget, he priced several lower priced options, after thinking about it for a few days I realized on wanted a very high quality system, so choose option b, I used to do it myself years ago and it never sounded good, cheap amps and subs, he convinced me if you want a system with sound proofing, tuned, no distortion, it's your choice, he gave me plenty of options. I went for it. It wasn't cheap but cheaper than the Toyota dealer would charge for their upgraded jbl system on a new truck which isn't nearly the same. Install took a few days and was supposed to be a day or so. He did have to add some extra parts and a different sub box which was more expensive that he didn't charge me extra for any of it. Upon picking up the truck, I was more than happy, sound was very powerful, zero distortion, extreme bass. Sound insulation made huge difference. The quality in tuning the system, made the difference. I can barely take full blast, it just has so much power and zero distortion. He followed up next morning to make sure I was happy and asked to come back in 50 hours of drive time to tune it again after breaking in speakers. I'm very happy with quality and system. Excellent quality and install, can't even tell its not a stock system, although it's nowhere near stock, everything is hidden and seamless. Stock head unit was more than usable and I like the stock deck anyway. I'll be back for my wife's dvd overhead unit soon. If you want high quality you will pay for it, this is the place for high quality, its not Best Buy or radio shack, you get what you pay for. read more

Took my '17 Ram 1500 base model to these folks for a basic keyless entry install. The total price after a longer than quoted delay was almost $100 more than I was twice quoted. The salesman agreed to stick with the original price and I appreciated it. So far the install looks orderly and proper. I come to pick it up and there's a 2 inch crease an inch below the tint strip on the windshield. Manager said they did the tint the day after I dropped it off and it sat there a week and they didn't fix it. I bring it back in and they give me a timeline for it to be done and pick it up and it wasn't ready. Also, my tires looked like shit after the put them on didn't put air in one of them and didn't do the balance properly. This place literally has a beautiful Ferrari sitting in their lobby but they can't take care of a simple tint and tire job. Ridiculous. read more

These guys fixed all my car audio problems. I left a big box retailer earlier in the day because they told me they couldn't replace my door speakers without replacing the amp and ALL of the speakers in my car due to compatibility issues with the amp. I knew that wasn't right and felt like a huge upscale attempt. So that day I left that store and called Sound Station and talked to Lamar, and asked him what I could do. I was happy that he said we can replace the door speakers for you and they will work great and sound awesome. Here's the kicker, he said if you want, you can come in today and we will install them. I will start with the summary and then provide more details. I read through the reviews and had my concerns. After planning, installing and enjoying the car audio upgrade, my experience was "over the top" and walked away 100% satisfied with Sound Station & Security. I would rate 5 out of 5 on professionalism; product knowledge; choice of equipment; quality and value. Anyone considering an car audio upgrade, you need to go to Sound Station & Security. Now for the details ... I have an older BMW which uses 5.5 inch components which limits the options that you can use to upgrade. The car had 10 component speakers which some were no longer working and the stock amplifier had lost channels. You can go crazy and install all sorts of equipment as it all comes down to the money you are willing to spend. With my project, I had a limited budget, but wanted to have a quality sound. My first contact was with Waiel (owner) which we discussed what I was trying to achieve. We also spent time discussing the vehicle size limits and the potential options. In addition, we discussed how much I was willing to spend and understood the trade offs for the budget that I had set. I spent about an hour listening to my type of music through a various number of products. At the end of my first visit, I was down to two different speakers that I was in-between. I went home and did my own research to ensure what I was being told was accurate and also checked the price points. Needless to say, Wail was very knowledgable and told me more than what was available out on the internet and the prices were in-line with several internet stores that I found. On my second visit, I worked with Josh and narrowed down to the speaker selection that I would be using to replace the OEM speakers. Waiel joined the discussion as we started on how to get more base into the vehicle as I like classic 70s & 80s rock-n-roll which is bass heavy. They out lined how we could install a single 10 inch sub in the trunk and port the sound through the steal cage into the arm rest. They recommended a single sub as I did not want to have a car that would rattle on the road and be heard by the next car at the stop light. We turned to how to power the system as we had the replace the OEM amplifier as channels were blown after 20 years of use. We discussed using a single amplifier which was high budget versus using multiple amplifiers which had a lower investment. At Josh's recommendation, I decided to use multiple amplifiers in the vehicle so I could achieve quality amplification at a lower price point. We agreed to the price that I thought was fair as I had checked all the prices on the equipment out on the internet to ensure I was getting value. Now it was install time. To my surprise, the installer, Hector, was able to work within the car in order to install 6.5 inch 3-way components in front and 6.5 inch 2-way components in the rear. This was huge as there is a significant sound different between the 5.5 inch and 6.5 inch. The trunk sub installation looked like BMW had installed it with matching trunk liner and clean installation. The sub could not be seen from inside of the car. It took two full days to conduct the installation as Waiel suggested using dampening material to keep the sound inside the vehicle and prevent rattles (this was high on my wish list). I picked up the car and turned on the concert hall and was blown away. The system sounds like hi-fi home system, but within the car. I cranked it up and stood outside the car and you could not hear the concert hall that was taking place within the car. Waiel had said to listen for two weeks and bring it back for adjustment. When I brought it back, Hector, (installer) and Josh helped with the fine tuning of the components and sub to finish off the sound to my liking. As I started at the beginning, you can not go wrong with Sound Station & Security. The staff is awesome and their knowledge of what can be done or not be done within a budget is tremendous. I started looking at stereos for my new convertible sports car and talked to one of the owners named Josh about my needs for the car. I told him specifically that I had a Samsung Droid Galaxy Note 2 and had no interest in any Apple technology radio. I then picked something out under the understanding that it was what I wanted based on my request. The stereo requested was wrong and then I tried to talk to the owner Josh and offered to pay more for an upgrade. I also only had the new stereo for less than a week. Josh said that if I switched than I would be charged for all of the new harness and equipment. I just figured that it was a simple mistake but I also had ordered a dash kit for my Nissan 350 Z that was suppose to be teal but I didn't figure out that it couldn't be done the correct way.They didn't notify me at my office before moving on with installation that was pretty much the same equipment that I already had in my sports car. When the dash kit was ordered which was on back ordered and I was never notified until I called them to see the status. The dash-kit ran 250.00 and I was charged a 180.00 in labor which is 90.00 a hour. Thats more than most specialist mechanics. So I ended up spending 430.00 for the wrong dash kit and another 550.00 for stereo and installation. I just want to voice my concern and would like to warn anyone of the service that I received. I also was almost charged a extra 150 .00 because Josh didn't have a record on how much customers pay for ordered items. Please look around and do business with someone else for your own sake. A phone call got me a price of $199 on a piece I needed - it was $239 in Durham but when I got to SStation it was suddenly $299 and out of stock so they tried to upsell me to a $439 part that is $319 on Amazon. They did honor the price eventually. Workmanship - well let's just say 3 trips on my very simple car audio install leads me to say they may have some good techs but the one that did my job was a goof! Plus they got my car dirty inside and out - there must be a mud pit in the rear of the store. I went to High Output in Garner (good experience with quote) and Radio Active also in Garner (not so good a quote process) and wish I had gone with High Output after my experience with Sound Station. read more

I had a difficult request, and this was the only company I could find locally that was willing to try and help me. I had a 2006 dodge charger and wanted an aftermarket proximity key and push-start system installed. This is complicated because it involves electrical bypasses, and anything involving the ignition wiring in a modern car can get difficult in a hurry. I worked with Josh Campos, who assured me that they had installed this system before on other vehicles and have had success. My install was more difficult than they anticipated, and we ran into problems with parasitic drain on the battery. Josh continued to work through the problem though, and had to get in touch with the technicians at the aftermarket device company as well as taking my vehicle over to the dealership and speaking with their technicians. I am positive that this install was much more difficult and time-consuming than Josh and his team were anticipating. I think most other companies would have given up on the project at some point and said that it couldn't be done, rather than spend the amount of time it would take to get the install right. To their credit, Sound Station and security continued working on things, never asked me for more money than they said it would cost, and in the end, the system works perfectly now! I couldn't be happier with them. This is clearly a company that cares about their reputation, and wants the customer to get a great install and product. Josh even called me a week later to follow up and make sure that the battery issues were solved. Needed to get a new radio installed after some low-life broke into my car and stole the one I had. I stopped here because they are located right next to the gym I go to. I gotta say, the salesman sucked me in. I usually compare prices with amazon or some other sites to see that I am not being overcharged. For some reason this step never popped in my head. And as it turns out, every item they sold me was marked up by about 50% OR MORE of what I found online. I was even quoted DOUBLE on one item compared to what I found online. So after they negotiate a "deal I cant refuse," they go to work on my car. An hour into the installation, all of a sudden I need another special wiring harness. I should have called it off there. But I allow them to proceed after they cut me another "deal" on the harness. My advice... check prices on the items they are trying to sell you. At least you will know just how much of a "deal" you are getting. read more

I felt the pricing was fair and equitable for my budget, and he also gave me discounts where possible. After the installation he walked through using the audio equipment, and while conducting the orientation we both noticed an issue too which he promptly had corrected by the technicians. I felt like my overall experience was wonderful in conducting business with them, and the staff (Tyler as well as Josh) and the owner were more than happy to help me accomplish what I had mind. I've been installing my own car systems since the early 90's and have dealt with various car audio businesses and would rate them amongst the best. I got what I paid for and feel as though they would stand behind their work and equipment if anything were to go wrong post installation. I freaking love this store. this is the best audio shop in Raleigh. I have been going there for 3 years, they did stuff to my vw jetta and now they are doing stuff to my vw CC. They work with you, they know what you need for your car. even if they are busy they will squeeze you in. I first went in for HIDS headlights and now they are doing my speakers and subs and now i even got rims from them. the owner is the best i mean u can not find a owner of a shop be such a nice guy and a family guy that cares about his customers and make sure that they leave happy. Josh, tyler, lamar, and little matt they are awesome, the best employees there. when ever i need something done to my car they know that i work weird hours so they always manage to squeeze me in and i don't mind waiting all day. i come in every weekend and sit and just hang out with the guys, i even bring them starbucks or mcdonalds, that's how much they had made me happy with all the stuff they did to my cars and the awesome customer service. till this day i have nothing bad to say about them. i highly RECOMMEND them to anybody who needs audio stuff done or rims go to them. i am a customer for life. if these guys move to another location they will now i will be right behind them lol. keep up the great work guys and i hope many blessings come you guys way. read more
