They are freaking awesome! Went there to pick up some DVDs for a movie night. They had a lot of classic great movies for cheap. I got 4 DVDs for 99 cents each and one for 3.99. Amazing deal! "Long Live Rock n Roll" In a digital era of downloadable tunes, it's time to ask ourselves a deep question. Are we ready as a society to nail the coffin shut, burying our intangible memories when music had a soul, a voice, and a pictorial visualization? Do you remember the feeling of giddiness and anticipation as we tore off that annoying cellophane--only to unveil our favorite artist's newest release we played loud and proud as we browsed through the vivid, artistic, & artist-inspired interpretation of their compilation as depicted through the cover art design and flip through the mysterious insert within? I only ponder this thought because I made a recent CD purchase. (My last CD purchase, if memory serves me right, was the exact moment Vanilla Ice's single, "ICE ICE BABY" released.) [Feel free to stop reading for my honesty and embarrassment-which I why I will never put my name to this piece.] As my taste buds for fine wine have with time acquired, so has my yearning for meaningful lyrics & varying artistic expressions of similar pains and torment I have experienced. I bought Pearl Jam's Greatest Hits, 1991-2003; again, no music-connoisseur by any means but my taste is slowly maturing. I held the cardboard dual CD case in awe only to unveil the poignant insert that for a brief time forced me to escape this reality I have created. I sat paralyzed, flipping through the black & white pages depicting their early years as they built by hand the cover photo backdrop for their introductory album, "TEN". Then, something happened. As I listened to the music I've heard over and over in my past, I now listened with virgin ears. What changed? I now heard the feeling. It was a foreign experience that a mere CD insert imploded upon my senses. I heard pain, life, struggle, hardship, regret, love, tragedy, innocence, and human error. I saw myself in the ugliest of states on up to my greatest sense of strength. I am humbled by this experience...enough to recount the event. If you're seeking a conclusion, my best articulation is that convenience has stolen my youth. I will never be able to pass on this feeling or experience to my baby girl. She will most likely never hold a CD cover or glimpse at an antiquated insert so as long as her iPhone or 'i-Whatever' consumes her life in 2027. But I'll never forget. Call it a plug, call it what you will. Keep local, low-budget radio stations & record stores funded; at least enough to light the dim road the strike a match to, unleashing the power that only music possesses. In the end, I am however just a hopeless nostalgic and feel entitled to embellish. If you're ever in LA, stop by Soundsations. I have visited the small record store merely twice, but they've been such a significant presence in my life for well over a decade. read more

I just started getting into vinyl records and was looking for something close to Inglewood. This place was it. They have a pretty good selection of old records, though I wish the space was bigger because they keep a lot of older records fairly low to the ground and my poor old back isn't what it use to be. Anyway, if you are in the area, I really think you should give this place a shot. read more

If you like to dig than this is the place for you. great staff and great music. bring a pillow if you plan on digging because all the good stuff thats cheep is on the bottom shelf right on the floor. They have a lil of everything for everyone. from vinal to tapes to cd's and movies and viedo games. this place rocks!!! read more

The staff has a. lot. of knowledge. Very personable and kind. If it isn't in the store they'll order it for you. Nice selection of new and used vinyl, CDs, DVD's, and even cassette and video tapes. It may be a smaller location than most but don't let it fool you; it's really quaint. I've spent hours sitting on the floor thumbing through the jazz and soundtrack sections. read more

Many a dollar of mine has been spent here, and I miss them. Pete and Lee (the owners) are real nice and knowledgeable guys. It's a mandatory pit stop when I'm in town to visit the parental units, even if I don't go there to buy anything. They don't have the space to hang with the larger independents in town in terms of selection, but placing an order was never really a problem if you don't mind waiting, and their prices are unbeatable. Their prices for new CD's hover in the $14-$15 range, and that's their regular price! It sucked that they had to move out of their old Sepulveda digs, but the landlord didn't really give them an option. I'm still fairly happy with my current local independent store, but I just don't get the same vibe walking into it like I do with Soundsations. read more

the metallic sign outdoors is a stark contrast to the vintage record store feel indoors. As others have noted, prices are rather low, but, as often seems to be the case, the action is in the 99c rack (if your knees and feet can handle squatting for half an hour to look through it). highly recommend! read more

Found this place on Yelp and after reading all the good reviews I decided to check this place out. Record stores are like hidden gems now a days so I wanted to see what this place was all about. Unfortunately, this place does not carry hip hop vinyl records. I was so disappointed that all they had were really old cd's from Ja Rule and Chingy in the hip hop section. That's why I'm only rating this place 3 stars. Their rock section is amazing though, I spent a few hours digging through their vinyl records and found so many good albums. Their Jazz section is fairly small and their r&b/soul section could be better. I am definitely coming back and recommend Soundsations to everyone. read more

This place is great for very particular record collectors. I felt that they had decent selection of stuff but being an electronic music buff I couldn't quite find what I was looking for. For the jazz fans, prog rock, punk, hip-hop, etc. this place is great. Unfortunately It's not for me. read more

Been in this record store a few times and they have a good selection. And I like that it's a local shop and about a 10 minute drive. But I have to agree with previous reviews about being acknowledged while walking in the store. A simple hello will do. Every time that I have been rung up there is no eye contact and it seems like the guy was dreading to ring me up because it interrupted his conversation with the other clerk. read more

Yes! Your ol skool record shop. I never know exactly what I want when I walk in. That's the great thing about it, on my last visit got an old Madness Record. A b-list of Cult films from the late 40's to present day. Love coming here because I never know what I'm gonna find. It's a small place but packed with music & films. So pass on by and make sure you have time to on your side, so you can look at what they got. read more

I went in looking for a specific record but I highly doubted they would have it there since I had called other record stores nearby to see if they had it and they didn't even have one album from the band I was looking for. We went in and I loved the vibe, not only do they sell records but they also have books, movies and very cool memorabilia. So I went to the section where I thought I'd probably find my record. I didn't find the one I was looking for but I found the newest album from that band and I must admit it really made my day to see it because I intended to buy it anyway and no one around the area had it. I browsed through and got three other great records for really good prices. When I was finally ready to pay, Lee was the one who helped me out and I mentioned to him that I was looking for a certain album. He said if I was interested they could order it for me so I ended up ordering two albums, he was very helpful. I definitely recommend this place for anyone who loves music. read more

I visited this record store for the first time about a week ago to purchase a few vinyl records for my girlfriend for Christmas. 2 of the 3 records I purchased were in poor condition and skipped. When I returned to the store, With receipt present, they would not allow me to return the vinyl but instead only exchange them. They didn't really have any other records that I think she would have liked (Norwegian death & black metal). Overall my experience was poor, and I will not return again in the future. read more

I've been buying music at SoundSations since 1987. Great little store. Bought some minty vinyl just yesterday, couldn't resist a few Chet Atkins LP's, plus a Ricky Nelson double LP for $1.99! Pete and Lee are cool guys. Give this place 4 stars only because it's so small, and I wish they'd offer special bundle prices to regular customers. All in all, great store. read more

I came here to browse and wound up leaving with three records and a giant smile on my face. The employee who rang me up was friendly enough and they let me browse without any hassle. This is a great spot for vinyl and cds! especially if you live westside and dont have the time to hit up Amoeba...not saying that this place is anywhere close to Amoeba in terms of selection, but they have a nice array of tunes for a small shop. their prices are decent. staff is friendly...its just a good reliable record shop! looking forward to stopping in once a month or so for some quality and slightly obscure vinyl! read more

I've been going to Soundsations since the early 90s. It's just about the last true independent record store left. I used to get a lot of Beatles bootleg CDs there before they got spanked for selling them. They literally got em' all taken away. It really was a blow to Pete, but to his and Lee's credit they have survived economic ups and downs over the years, and remain a great store. I've seen a lot of record stores/chains come and go (I'll be 58 too soon), and I hope Soundsations sticks around. It really is like an oasis when I walk in. I forget my troubles, and have fun browsing the bins hunting and then stumbling upon a long forgotten gem. I hope it never disappears. read more

I like this place. They're off the beaten path, and they are a good place to find soul/jazz records at a sometimes reasonable price. However, I also like that they have an impressive variety of rock/alternative LPs in addition to the soul/funk selection they are known for. The turnover is somewhat low, so you have to put a good chunk of time in between visits. read more

Came in here hoping to find at least one cd from either of two artists I have been really into lately. I found three used Pinback cds, a 99 cent cd from a witch house band I really like and another 99 cent cd I was happy to buy. Great selection and cool staff. This is the coolest store ever. Cooler, even, than that illegal fireworks stand that also served tacos. I know, it seems impossible. But bear with me here. At first glance, the store seems quaint and somewhat small. But once inside, I felt as though I were drowning in CD's. And records. And books. And shirts. And posters. And memorabilia.And fantastic decor. There's a man made of records waiting to greet customers and the windows are so plastered with posters that they can't really be called windows anymore. But...onto their music, because that's what this store's about. They carry a ton of rock/punk/new wave/etc. They've got a small classical section, some comedy CD's and records, and a surprisingly nice jazz selection. If you like rock--of nearly any sub-genre--this is the place to be. They do have far more CD's than vinyl but that's not to say their vinyl section isn't good. There's also a number of rare/promo/special edition/box sets here. I've started a collection of "PROMO NOT FOR SALE" albums from this place! The owners are fantabulous...always really nice and up for a conversation. They're also really fair price wise when I have a special order (and I've had a ton of those..) Price wise, with non-special orders, it's still a good deal, especially in the used section. I come here instead of Amoeba because the same album is usually nearly half the price or at the very least several bucks cheaper. They also suggest albums from the back that aren't on display sometimes, if they think it's more to my liking (Ryko David Bowie albums!) I could go on and on about Soundsations but instead, just visit. Then you won't have to read ridiculously long reviews (like this one!) read more

It was Record Store Day and, while I would have loved to see Lucinda Williams at Amoeba in Hollywood... I felt I had to support Soundsations. I bought vinyl there at their original location when they were Grammy 'N Granny... in 1974! 3 locations later and they are still around! This is still the kind of place you plant yourself in and cross off at least an hour to go through all the used CD's. It's everything you remember... a little dark and dingy, dedicated customers of questionable hygiene... and you'll find yourself struggling to pare down your purchase. May the Lord have mercy on our society once we lose music and book stores! read more
