I wish I could give this place a good review, but while there is a lot of potential here there's even more work to be done. I arrived 2 minutes before the scheduled opening. I waited.... waited.... peeked in the window.... called... waited until 30 min past the posted opening. While I waited I noticed 2 men across the street chatting, they kept looking at the store so I figured they were waiting for it to open just like I was. After 31 minutes of me waiting they crossed the street, unlocked the door, walked in, and locked the door. Never even acknowledged my presence. About 5 minutes later they opened the door and then said to me. "Give is a few minutes to open".... uh, ok. When I finally entered they barely even looked up. Never asked if I needed help finding anything. At this point I was close to just leaving. Oddly, as I found a few items I wanted I did notice that they have a very good selection if a bit disorganized. A few what I assume were regulars wandered in and the two employees started chewing the fat with them. I went up to reluctantly pay for things I decided I'd buy and was initially treated with the same indifference I'd experienced walking in the door. The one bright spot is that once I asked about some items I did not find the gentleman was more than happy to look through the inventory for them. Though the items were not in stock he offered to order them for me. Didn't quite make up for all the previous issues, but it took the edge off. In summary it seems like this store is really more of a hobby than a business for someone. Very good selection and potential to be better, but the customer service has to take a huge leap forward. read more

I love this place. Grew up in the area and bought/sold a ton of used CDs and LPs there, when they were located on Sepulveda Blvd (a block or two away from the current location). From 1989 to 1996 I spent so many of my teenage dollars at this record store when they were on Sepulveda. They have a great selection, and are a good partner for selling old music that is no longer needed. My youngest daughter found Soundsations, and came home with a haul of CDs for a song. I'm glad that my kids can have the same enjoyable experience with this store in 2021 that I had in the 80s and 90s. read more

I love this place. When I first got my record player a little over a year ago, I went to several different record shops in the space of 2 weeks trying to find a place to 'call home', and this one emerged victorious without a contest. Lots of rock, of all varieties. I was surprised to see such a range of really old and really new music. Great prices on their used stuff, which is updated pretty frequently. I'm a huge Muse fan, and I got most of their albums here for $10 each by coming back and being patient over the course of just a few months. Always easy parking nearby. read more

Good selection, and they operate in a part of town with few (close to no) options for record shopping. But questionable service. Example: I called to check on stock of a limited-quantity Record Store Day item (I asked using the name of the artist and the specific title of the album), the employee said they have multiple copies in stock. When I arrived, it turned out they have multiple copies of another title by the same artist - not the title I specifically asked for. At a time when brick and mortar record/CD stores have become almost extinct it is truly a pleasure to know that a store like Soundsations (which has been in business for well over three decades now) still exists. This store has always been known for having an excellent selection of vinyl LPs and CDs from virtually all musical genres at discount prices and both the new and used LPs and CDs sections have plenty to offer and commendable variety. Over the years I have found many great bargains on out-of-print CDs at Soundsations and I definitely hope this store does remain open as it truly is one of the very best record/CD stores still in business. read more

First time at Soundsations today and had a great time picking up some records. Atmosphere in the store is super easy going. Staff might not greet you when you first come in, but don't take it personal. They probably get a bunch of tire kickers who just browse and leave. I think I spent a good hour and a half going through the crates and felt comfortable taking my time. They were playing some good music too. Ended up picking out 5 records, all mint, at a great price. Once I was ready to check out, Lee was super friendly, answered a bunch of my questions, and even shared an awesome bit of trivia on the ELO album I bought. My three musician sons are big Soundsations fans, so when I wanted to locate an older album as a present for one of my sons, I headed over to the store. It's a place I can easily get lost in, reminiscing about the bands and friends of my youth as I thumb through an eclectic collection of rock, pop, jazz, classical, and rock and roll among a host of other genres. It was an easy process to order the Come Clean Puddle of Mudd album for my son, and it arrived in a timely manner. I recommend this store. read more

Thankfully this is one of the few records stores remaining, that Amoeba hasn't run out of business. Great store, run by a great, knowledgeable staff, without chips on their shoulders. I decided to go here yesterday to do a little crate digging. Man, I walked away with nothing but gems. Didn't even break my piggy bank either. Each of the records I purchased didn't cost me more then $7.99. Most record shops will raise their prices when they know a record is rare. My loot from this outing included: Mandrill - Composite Truth (1973) James Brown - Sings Raw Soul (1967) James Brown - Soul Classics (1972) Lonnie Liston Smith - The Best Of (1978) The Blackbyrds - Flying Start (1974) Stevie Wonder - Music of My Mind (1972) Buddy Miles - More Miles Per Gallon (1975) Idris Muhammad - Make It Count (1980) War - Deliver The Word (1973) The Ojays - Survival (1975) As you can see I walked away with quite a bit of gold in the form of vinyl. You can be sure I will be going sample crazy with these. I spent quite a considerable amount of time on my hands and knees looking through bin after bin. It was well worth it though. For better or worse, I love Westchester. I love Benny's Tacos. I love LMU (go Lions!) I especially love that gross park on Manchester and Lincoln. You know... And of course, Soundsations is no exception to the the list. Soundsations is Westchester's one and only stop for music (and DVDs); they've got it all and you better come quick or I'll take it. Don't be daunted by the small window front... Really. For such a small store, the selection on both new and used vinyl is excellent. When you visit you'll find all sorts of new of stuff sink your fangs into but also a stellar selection of classics- a very nice collection of Beatles stuff! The prices are unbelievable (both new and used) for Los Angeles I'd let you know how good they are but I'm feeling selfish and want to protect some of the good stuff for myself. Everyone who works here is super nice. There are a lot of great record stores in LA with horrible service but awesome selection but Soundsations is an exception in the sense that it manages to both wonderfully. The guys who work here are humble and super helpful which is Also, the store is organized impeccibly. I found it incredibly easy to see if Soundsations had what I wanted but at the same time afforded me enough digging to come up with a few gems. Parking is never a hassle because it's Westchester and nobody cares. Stop by and you won't leave disappointed (or empty handed)! read more

Although I was somewhat impressed by how much material is in this store, I was severely disappointed with the lack of diversity. If you're a true rock music fan then this would be a great place for you because they have more Rock music than all other genres combined. The killer for me though was the customer service. I've seen dozens of high ratings due to their great customer service but I received the opposite. The 2 gentlemen took nearly 5 minutes to acknowledge my presence when I approached the counter. While paying for my CDs, the guy gave no eye contact. I asked about how his day was going and he mumbled. I almost put the CDs back but I just told him to have a blessed day and got out of there before I changed my mind. I must've went during the wrong shift (early afternoon). read more

This place is great and to the point. I had heard about the greatness of this store from the local "kroqers" who frequented it in middle school and high school. But it was not until I got fed up and could not find one particular cd that I decided to give this place a shot. Sure enough they had it - Tokyo Police Club. You can even call ahead and place stuff on reserve for you. If you are a true music lover, if your heart beats to music, if you abandoned most of the sounds on the radio and television a long time ago, you should just have this place somewhere in the back of your head. I've been going to this place (used to be the old location on Sepulveda) since elementary school, and that is way longer than I'll care to admit. Okay, just a hint, my first vinyl record was bought here (Styx's Grand Illusion), as was my first CD (Siouxsie and the Banshees' Through the Looking Glass). If it wasn't for this place, I wouldn't have laughed out loud at High Fidelity. It's kinda like that. They won't talk shit to your face, but they are those guys. It's awesome. I swear the same guy has been behind the counter for 30 years. He hasn't even changed much, little grayer, glasses now, but like the short version of John Cusack's character, no BS. I talked to him recently about the implosion of the music business, and he said every time a chain closes, they get a big boost in business, but there has been a steady march downward ever since the digital music thing started. So if you crave a real, live record store with knowledgeable staff, you might want to stop by soon. Oh yea, I've been over vinyl for awhile, so I have no idea what's up with that. I do scan the CD racks every time I scratch together $100 I need to spend. And I never get farther than a letter or five. The used rack is freekin huge and cheap. Way cheaper than digital, and I get a backup file! read more

Plenty of selection, good prices, and none of the pretentious 'tude. The staff is helpful, friendly and always playing something good. The danger lies in how much I will spend even finding most records for $4-$10 a piece. For being a smaller place, they have a lot more variety than you'd think! Relatively organized as well, which I know can be hard to maintain in places where people are constantly moving things around. I'll always go back to Soundsations! read more

Soundsation been around for a long time. I been buying and selling music and the owner is really cool. Not to many record stores around and they do give you decent money if you want to sell or just want credit . They do have a pretty good selection of music and they also sell movie, stickers, and sometimes t-shirts. I just miss the feeling going to a record store and listening to record. I spend hours in this place, they have a great selection of CD's and Vinyl (used and new). They also have DVD's and some hidden VHS and Cassette tapes. Soundsations is a great neighborhood record store with a super-friendly staff and good tunes spinning in the background. There is ample parking on streets and is in walking distance to Del Taco. Many times, I'll come here with a list of items and 9 times out of 10, Soundsations has it, and sometimes for a really good discounted price! Plus, the employees are really willing to order anything they may not normally carry (Pavement's "Terror Twilight" comes to mind.) They are helpful in recommending albums, too. Guided by Voices has many great albums other than "Alien Lanes" and "Bee Thousand" but I didn't know where to turn to next. I asked, and I received "Isolation Drills." Why yes, I am nerding out, but my point is that even though places like Amoeba have music experts, Soundsations has 'em too, and they're way nicer. Nice big selection of used vinyl and used CDs. Also a great place to look for music memorabilia and even DVDs. I wish they were open longer, though! read more

After moving here from vegas two years ago and going to Zia records all the time, I tried out a few places, amoeba for example, and none of them are as good as this place. All of the staff are super helpful in getting stuff ordered for you and getting it in quick and just all around friendly guys. The selection is huge for such a small store, with everything from CD's and Vinyl to posters and memorabilia. I've even seen 8-track tapes here(which as a 20 yr-old college student was a first in my life). Not to mention the prices, tons of vinyls for a dollar or two, and brand new stuff at a reasonable price. Besides with a Del Taco right next door, and a bakery down the street, you can eat, shop, and pick up desert without ever moving your car from the parking space/breaking a sweat(or the bank). In short: Buy your music here, and you'll never want to go anywhere else. read more

Bought my boyfriend a turntable for his birthday and after a few failed attempts of purchasing vinyls at various stores (either there was an event going on or the store was closed one earlier than we thought), we were able to go here after work to hopefully find some vinyls. What we came home with: Jay-Z, Kanye (new), Marvin Gaye, Elton John, Eagles, and Atlantic Starr (haha yes, my boyfriend and I listen to a wide variety of music.... my dad was a big music fan so I am VERY familiar with super old school music.... thanks dad!). Awesome used selection, and I love used. In an era where music in real (non-e) format is coming to an end, Soundsations delivers a quality selection of new and used cd's and vinyl. When you walk in its like going back in time. A couple of music nerds living in an old school record store. It is a sad thing to imagine that someday-in the not so distant future-people will ask what's a record store? I've been a customer since the mid 90's, when they were at their previous location. If you are looking for vinyl or rarer cd's then this is the place. I wish it was a bit more like Amoeba, but they have an amazing selection for their size. I usually browse their used selection first and I can't recall leaving disappointed. I find great music starting at around $6 per cd, sometimes less! If you are looking to buy from amazon or browsing ebay, try this place first; you will find something just digging around.
