Friend and I spontaneously decided on this place due to how many people were in there and the ratings it had. I was satisfied with our decision because everything here was delicious. This place has the best birria taco I've had with it being crisp, cheesy, and great balance of flavors and that birria The burrito was stuffed and flavorful and the tortilla soup was warming on a cold winter day. Stopped in for a quick carry out order and found a quaint restaurant to which I definitely want to return. The decor is welcoming and it has a nice vibe. The person who took my order was welcoming and efficient. I ordered two soups. One soup was cream of crabs, which was nice and had a reasonable amount of crab with a pleasant flavor. The second soup was Chupe de Cameroon which was also a creamy soup with potatoes, peppers and shrimp. This had a robust and pleasant flavor. I truly enjoyed both soups. Soup and taco was a solid spot for a Saturday lunch! It was super crowded when we went, but we were seated after about 15 minutes. Chips and salsa came out quickly. I had the tortillas soup which was good not great. Everyone seemed to like it more than me. My fish tacos were flavorful and filling. Water was refilled quickly. Service wasn't the most friendly but it was efficient. My only complaint is that anything extra (like sour cream) was $2 more. Overall though getting a meal for under $20 is great! read more

When we visited, we were able to get seated right away. They give you free chips and salsa, that's how you can tell it's going to be good. I got the sopa de tortilla, and it was delicious. I've been going here for YEARS. At least 5. Back when an order of Birria tacos were $13 & now they are 16.5, $33 for two orders. Which I didn't mind paying because they were the BEST Birria tacos I've ever had. But the past couple times I've gone it has not been the same whatsoever. They don't give chips and salsa for Togo orders anymore, the tacos aren't fried in the consumè anymore and they skimp on the meat, cheese AND cilantro/onions. It's nothing like how it used to be which breaks my heart because as I've said, this was the best place I've EVER been to for Birria tacos and I've tried minimum 20+ spots around the country.. also, a Togo horchata is $4 for a SMALL and it tasted like water sprinkled with cinnamon. (Another Mexican restaurant' in Fredericksburg has horchata which is 3X the size for 3.50 and SO GOOD). It's unfortunate that as time went on their food hasn't stayed consistent and their prices have inevitably gone up, which again.. would be understandable if the quality of their food remained consistent. read more

We got horchata, chicken tortilla soup, and Al pastor tacos. Everything was alright. It wasn't great. The horchata was grainy and pooled at the bottom. The chicken tortilla soup wasn't any better than what I make at home. The Al pastor tacos were okay but they are nothing like any Al pastor taco I have had in the past... the meat was like slow cooked or something. The service was fine. Nothing special and the restaurant itself was pretty tiny. Oh and they did give chips and salsa but the chips were bought and the salsa tasted like it was out of a jar. read more

Every time I visit my family in Virginia, we head straight to this amazing restaurant! Everything is fresh and made to order. The owners are incredibly friendly. There are two locations--Caroline St. and William St. We've been to both and have never left disappointed. They have daily specials, and on Tuesdays, they celebrate Taco Tuesdays with 2 tacos for $6 or 3 for $8. What a deal! They are very creative with their soups, and they change them daily. They do have sopa de tortilla and bean soup on the regular menu in addition to the soup of the day. So there are TWO different locations for this amazing local Fredericksburg spot and they are both on POINT! One is on Caroline Street right downtown and the second is on William St (right across from Freddy Donuts which is also awesomeness!) Both spots are little hole-in-the-wall restaurants which are generally my favorite. They both have indoor seating, seasonal outdoor seating, and a full bar. ANY spot that serves Mexican fare has to start with chips and salsa on the table and they do! Solid salsa too! Now the soup: Tried the tortilla soup. DELICIOUS! The Tacos: You get TWO per order. I messed up the first visit and got WAY too many. They have a choice of flour or corn tortillas. I have not tried the corn option but the flour is big enough that two tacos will FILL you up! The Rice and Beans: I need to figure out how to make pinto beans the way they do. They serve a lot of their platters with a side of rice and beans. These are not smashed beans, these are delicious, homemade pintos. The beans and rice are seasoned perfectly and come out HOT! The Burritos: Seasoning is great! Like on POINT! Not the most gargantuan I have ever had but they are PACKED with fresh ingredients and the flavor is fantastic. The servers are attentive as well. We will be back for sure! read more

We were on a drive and I had a recommendation to check out Soup and Taco for a quicker meal. They had an extensive list of tacos and it was hard to decide. To start we did the queso with chorizo (it was listed as a special.) It seemed like a bit of a small size, but it's loaded with chorizo, delicious, and was actually good for our appetite because we didn't fill up on chips and cheese. For the main, we decided to split the al pastor, shrimp, and birria tacos. The al pastor and shrimp come as two per order and the birria comes as three (plus the consomme.) Tough time decided which were our favorites since they were all so different. I know birria has been a big thing the last few years and this was our first time trying it. They were perfect, not too messy, and used a great mix of warm spices. The shrimp MAY have slightly edged out the birria, but I'd be hard pressed to try different ones with how good they were. read more

This has to be one of the weirdest concepts. Every taco had chunks of cauliflower in it. Every item was below average in flavor or design. Listening and watching folks inside it appears there's a small contingent of locals on lunch break there and a larger group of confused tourists. read more

Fresh, friendly and flavorful - authentic food with creative seasonal specials. In the chilly winter I crave their tortilla soup and in summer I want their cooling salads and seafood. All the salsas taste homemade, not from giant jars. The service is always fast but the clean dining area is tiny - can't be more than 10' wide - so plan to come early or wait a bit for one of the limited tables. They do take out, too. This quaint little Mexican restaurant sits in the heart of downtown Fredericksburg in the historical district. A charming little eatery, it did not disappoint on our visit this past week. My husband and I were out and about and wanted to try Soup and Taco for awhile now, so we hit them up last Friday for lunch. The place is very small, and seating is limited, so I wouldn't recommend them for a large party. They also have a limited menu, but some really good options available. We ordered unsweetened iced teas as they brought out a complimentary basket of chips and salsa. I really enjoyed their salsa; I can be very finicky about my salsas, and this one was quite enjoyable. We saw that they had guacamole, so we put in for that as well. It tasted very fresh and is made in house, I was told. My husband ordered the Mahi Mahi fish tacos and I got the Carne Asada (steak tacos). You only get 2 tacos per order, instead of the traditional 3 at most restaurants, unless otherwise noted. As well, the prices are strictly for the tacos; don't expect refried beans or rice, which is an additional charge. Since I don't have a big appetite, the chips, salsa, guac and tacos were more than enough for me, but some may leave feeling less than satisfied with the quantity of food. My husband's fish tacos would have been reasonably priced at $9.95, had they at least came with beans, but for just 2 tacos, I found their prices to be a bit high. He also noted that there was very little fish in the tacos. My steak tacos were reasonably priced at $5.95 however and plentiful. The overview of my review: This place has great quality of food. I always eat here when I'm in Fredericksburg and it's always consistent. I've never had a complaint. Service is fast and your seated straight away, so it's a great place to eat if your in a hurry.
