I had order the split pea soup months and months ago but I still can remember how disappointed and lacking in flavor the soup was. Might be good for someone on a diet and have a cold and can't taste what there eating or drinking but the split pea soup was bland and not worth the $6 I had paid for it. I normally don't leave low reviews but I remember when I had got mine to go and took it to class I wants to turn back around and return it. I've loved like 80% of the soups I've tried here, and since they're always changing, that's pretty good odds!! But I'm reviewing because the enchiladas I had here last week were to die for. Owner says they only have enchiladas once a month, so make sure you come in the first 3 days of the month so you get a taste! I was channeling my inner hippie a bit here. Lots of vegetarian options on their menu of homemade soups and sandwiches, with a cute, relaxed space to eat. I didn't understand until about a third of my way into my tomato mascarpone soup that they don't add any salt, so upon learning this I added some from the large containers of sea salt they offer and it really jumped up my appraisal of said soup. Cool idea (especially if you're sodium-conscious), but I somehow missed that and spent a good 5 minutes wondering why the soup is so bland (I may also be stupid). Menu is not huge, but I am all in favor of restaurants doing a few things and doing them well. There is a liquor store just around the corner...the BYO option also greatly enhanced my personal experience. read more

Soup's On is amazing! I am an avid soup lover and this restaurant is perfection. It has a very cozy ambiance--perfect for eating soup and the menu changes every day, which is great for trying different types of soups. Kevin is very friendly and remembers his regular customers especially if you're a member of the pint club. I have tried more than 10 of Kevin's soups and loved all of them. French onion is served everyday and I highly recommend it. AND the prices cannot be best for the quality of the food. I work just around the corner from Soups On and go there for lunch every few weeks. Overall, their food is very yummy and consistent. In addition to soups with meat in them, they offer a nice selection of vegetarian and vegan soups. One thing to know about their soups is that they tend to salt them very little. I rarely salt my food, but almost always do at Soups On. I like that they don't salt very much though - let's me control much of the sodium levels. In addition to soup, they offer several very tasty sandwiches on freshly baked bread and several salads. Try the tarragon chicken salad - it's great! Although the sandwiches and salad selection seems to be pretty stable, the soups are rotated daily. Sometimes certain varieties sell out quickly. Call ahead in the morning and let them know what you want and when you'll be in and they'll set aside your selection for you. Go to Soup's On - it's great! read more

There are two places to get soup in Baltimore: Soup's On and Atwaters (Belvedere location). Anyone who goes to Panera is an idiot. Soup's On has an ever-changing list of 4-5 soups that they serve on a daily basis, one of which is always vegan, one with meat or seafood, and the rest are usually all vegetarian. I've never been in and had the same soup twice, and I go there a LOT. Prices are good. Not the cheapest meal you'll ever eat (but close), but the quality vs. price ratio heavily favors quality. The twins who run the place are super (no pun intended) nice. The decor is a little rickety and sparse, but really that's part of the charm of the place. It's totally somewhere you take out-of-towners and say "I discovered this little place..." It is important to note that salt is not part of the recipe. They give you sea salt to add at your discretion, and this is by far the best way to approach the matter. It takes very little salt added to get the same flavor as adding it in the cooking process. read more

This place is such a joy. They make 9+ different homemade, fresh, all-natural soups every day, with several different vegetarian and even vegan options. They are also friendly to meat-eaters too! The soup tastes like something you would whip up in your own kitchen from scratch if you had the time and energy (and were a really good cook). Best soup in town, delicious varieties! There is something for everyone who comes here, the only downside about this place is they don't accept tips! The only other thing redeeming about winter besides being able to wear knit sweaters is that once winter rolls around, Soup's On has longer hours. This makes total sense because in the middle of summer, people just don't crave hot soup that is delicious and house made and so comforting even if they should because Soup's On is that good. I've been here about thirty times in the past few years that I've lived in Baltimore, and every soup and sandwich that I've tried has been awesome in its own way. What I've had: Maryland crab soup: savory tomato broth, corn, green beans, stringy crab, celery. Very delicious but it does taste like every other MD crab soup I've ever had except it's not as sweet and sometimes you'll get an order loaded with stuff but sometimes you'll get an order that is more broth. French onion soup: So meaty and delicious. Theres a giant bread crouton inside that sops up the broth and the jarlsberg cheese isn't too strong but it's very chewy. It adds a nice texture. Chicken boychop soup: I was hesitant to try this because I'm a creature of habit and always order the same things but I'm so glad I got it. The broth is spicy- but in that slow warming way that sits on your tongue and not that type of spicy that hurts your throat and makes you mad. There's a hint of ginger and the soup was loaded with chopped up crunchy bok choy, sliced shiitake mushrooms and chicken. This was perfect because I was freezing from walking around outside. Eggplant sandwich: Thick cut roasted eggplant, roasted peppers and goat cheese. Very filling and they never skimp on the cheese so it's very creamy. It's garnished with majoram and I always ask for extra and the owners are always happy to accommodate. The bread is like a thick crusty french bread and it's open face style. Pork sandwich: I've tried two different kinds. One of them is a banh mi, which is really tasty and has a spicy sriracha mayo with cilantro, mint pickled daikon and carrots. I wish the mayo was spicier and that there was more of it because the bread to pork to sauce ratio was off. The other pork sandwich has goat cheese, caramelized onions and spicy arugula. Chicken Salad sandwich: Really creamy, not too flavorful though. There are grapes that add a little sweetness. And you can't really taste the tarragon. Turkey sandwich: This one is also not too exciting. It's very simple and just has jarlsberg cheese and rosemary mayo. I really wanted to taste more rosemary. But if you have it with one of their spicy soups, it compliments those well. The service is VERY nice. I like to get carryout and they always make sure that I have everything I need in terms of seasonings and utensils. They also wrap everything tightly in both plastic and paper so that when the soup sloshes around, it doesn't soak through the bag! Very empathetic. The atmosphere inside is really quaint. They have all these tables that are painted after different types of soup which is adorable. It's also right above Ok Foods so you can get a healthy organic treat afterwards. Overall, all the soups and sandwiches are great for lunch or a small dinner. The prices are fair- $4 to 6 for soups and $6 for sandwiches. Also, all the soups have no added salt so make sure you add some if you love sodium the way I do. read more

I hate to write this review so late but a couple of months ago I had visited soups on with my mom and boyfriend. I was currently living in Westfield at the time, and have been a regular at soups on. Before I start this review I want to say that I have had the best experience and food at soups on, except for this time. We went for lunch, and I had ordered their corn chowder. I had ordered a bowl of it, my boyfriend had ordered the half sandwich and soup of the corn chowder and my mom had ordered the full sandwich. Well we get the food and everything came out the way we wanted it too except the corn chowder had big prices of bacon in it. I do not like bacon one bit and was disappointed to know it was in the soup because it was not advertised that there was bacon in it. When one of the wait staff came back again to drop off one last item, I asked her if there was any chance I could get a different soup because I did not know there was a bacon in the corn chowder. She told me that the manager is not in today, and she was not able to get me a different soup. She had told me that the managers daughter was in and that she would grab her. So as we are waiting, the managers daughter comes over and asks what's wrong with my soup. I told her I did not know there was bacon in it and I had asked if I could just exchange for different soup. She refused to give me a different soup. So I asked her if I could have my money back because I only had one bite of the corn chowder. At first she told me no she was not giving me my money back. After the conversation started to get a little tense she asked if I wanted my money back and at this point the money was not the issue, I wanted a new soup. I told her to keep my money but that I was not coming back again. Which is sad because I have always enjoyed their food before this experience. You would think a small shop like this would want to keep customers happy, yet I left very disappointed. read more

Fansatic and fresh soups. sometime a little light on sal/flavor but easily fixed by adding your won salt, hot sauce, whatever condiment you enoy. tastes health and organic not like chemically fake crap. choose from vegan, vegetarian or meat soup. 6-8 featured daily. sanwiches and salads are also superb. this is absolute favorite spot for rainy days. quiet atomosphere and free wifi. (12/28/2011) I really want to like Soup's On; it's a local, small business, has homemade soups, etc. etc. It's got all the right descriptions on paper, but I really just don't like the soups all that much. The ones I've tried have been just bland, and I'm already on a low sodium diet, so I'm used to the less-salt-mantra (the soup is def hot on a cold winter's day, though); but they could really do with some seasoning (other than salt), and the whole soup Nazi thing is so 1995. The Tomato Bisque with Mascarpone was tartly tomato-y, not all that mascarpone-y, but still bland; benefited with the addition of sea salt and fresh cracked pepper available in the dining room. The Roasted Eggplant with Roasted Red Bell Peppers & Goat Cheese Garnished with Fresh Marjoram was a very nice sandwich on a toasted, fluffy French roll, served open-face with tender, marinated, savory roasted eggplant and red peppers, plenty of soft, piquant goat cheese, and a ton of fresh marjoram leaves for a strong herbal note (hope you like marjoram). I would probably go back for the sandwich. The thing that would keep me away is the overpowering stench of patchouli that wafts up from the OK Natural Food Store. I can't stand patchouli in the first place, but to have it in my nostrils while I eat is is just nauseating. Prices are reasonable; the soup/sandwich combo is a good buy. We were looking for a light (and late) lunch on a Sunday and ended up at Soup's On. W had the roasted turkey sandwich, which was served open-face; I had the soup and salad combo and choose the Korean chicken soup, which should probably be renamed the Korean rice and sesame seed soup, and the house salad with red grapes, walnuts, and goat cheese. Our total bill was $14, which was fine for the amount of food we received. The good: The house salad was packed into the box it was served in and contained as many toppings (red grapes, walnuts, and huge blobs of tasty goat cheese) as it did lettuce... the dressing, which was some kind of cilantro-ey vinaigrette, was perfectly matched to the other flavors in the salad. The odd: None of the toppings in the house salad were cut up... the large red grapes and the walnuts were whole and the goat cheese was in maybe 2-tablespoon sized blobs. My meal was served with four small pieces of bread topped with loads of uncooked oats and poppy seeds... it seemed like maybe the bread was supposed to be toasted to be dipped in the soup? The partial toastedness and the oats were odd, but it was nice to have something to spread some of the extra goat cheese on. ;) The ugly: W's sandwich was super dry; the Korean chicken soup had one tiny (half inch, squared) chunk of chicken in it. Overall, not amazing, but it certainly fit the bill for a not-too-heavy (on the belly or the wallet) lunch. I probably wouldn't revisit as a tourist, but would probably eat here once in a while if I lived in town. read more

I am updating my review because they now have thicker soups sometimes available in their rotation. Customer service is still excellent. I have seen the owners listen to customers needs and concerns when they are expressed, so don't be shy to let them know if you have any! The owners are also great about recommending something from their menu based on what you are in the mood for that day. And, as an added bonus, if you are a regular, they are pretty good about knowing and remembering what you like so that they can recommend something new in the future you might be interested in (and they've always been on point for myself and a few friends of mine who frequent here). They, of course, don't push you to try anything you don't want to. Friendliness and great quality of customer service seems to be what is valued here, and whenever I have a chance I truly enjoy coming here. This is also a great place to go if you're looking for a menu that changes pretty regularly. Not everyone might enjoy this aspect, but I personally think it's great because I am the type that tends to look for something new every few weeks to change things up when I go out to eat. In addition, for what it's worth, as someone currently dieting (in addition to daily exercise), this is one spot where I've found the food does not negatively impact my weight loss journey. Obviously anyone dieting should still have everything in moderation, but this is the perfect spot for eating something that is filling enough as a meal, but also light enough so as not to set you back on any health goals you might be pursuing. read more

Cheap, quick and delicious! Whats not to love?! I went there for a working lunch with a coworker and we both had the butternut squash soup and split our sandwiches. She got the tomato, mozzarella and basil sandwich and I had the awesome, pork, caramelized onions, goat cheese and strawberry sandwich. We both preferred the pork partially because it came with both a top and bottom piece of bread but mostly because the flavors were amazing and went so well together. Speaking of bread, both sandwiches came on the same type of bread and it might nice if they switched it up a little bit. Some foccacia for the tomato mozzarella and sourdough for the pork maybe? Who knows, either way the food was fantastic. The soup was creamy and smooth but we did need quite a bit of salt. The seating area was a little cramped but who cares when your spending $9 for a bowl of soup and a sandwich? There's not a single thing I've gotten that I haven't loved. Soup's On respects that natural flavors of the fresh ingredients used in the soups by not drowning them in salt. There's always a fresh line-up of soups to choose from, which include vegetarian and vegan options. I haven't tried any of the sandwiches yet because I love the soup so much. Everything is super fresh, filling, and satisfying. you can get a soup combo with a salad or sandwich. you get yummy bread and seasoning with your soup purchase. The menu changes daily, but there's always a variety for all kinds of different diets or preferences. The website is kept updated with the soups, salads, sandwiches, etc. that are being served that day. I seriously love this place so much. I home sick and my fiancé went out to get me some chicken noodle soup and a sandwich. The tomato, mozzarella "sandwich" was okay. The tomato was a little mealy and it could have used a splash of olive oil and balsamic, but it was fine. My soup was the problem. I can understand not salting it too much to allow the customer some control but what's with the dish water taste? I also couldn't place the herbs that were floating in the broth. Whatever they were, they dominated the broth. the chicken pieces were large and unseasoned except for the dominant flavor. I am seriously underwhelmed. And I'm still hungry. Honestly, I have the best luck in Baltimore. I've only stumbled upon charming spots run by lovely people, and Soup's On is no exception. Yes, yes, try the soup, but please try the sandwiches too - the eggplant with roasted peppers and basil and goat cheese is fantastic, and the tofu banh mi is brilliant. Added to it is that the folks who work there are just genuinely pleasant and kind, and really want to make sure you enjoy the grub. All this goodness for low, low prices. Love it for what it is cheap eats, great fresh tastes. From the name you'll guess soup is what's for dinner. You'd be right and they always have 3 or 4 options. (note since they are all good I usually ask whatever is freshest and have that) . They also do great open faced sandwiches, If you like mushrooms, the portabella is the way to go. I got the vietnamese sandwich since I haven't had banh mi for a while. Very flavorful! The sandwich was stuffed with so much! Mostly cucumbers and carrots but the roasted pork was given in generous portions. I wish all the food was placed out evenly so each bite would include every ingredient but nonetheless it was still a terrific sandwich. Compared to the banh mi I've had in New York, this wasn't spicy at all. It still tasted somewhat authentic though. Oh and heads up, they charge an extra 25cent if you pay with card. read more
