WOW. First of all, I can't believe someone beat me to this review. Beatty is in the middle of nowhere in NV. Second of all, this place was a disaster. Went into bar. Sat there for 10 minutes. NO ONE CAME OVER. Went to bathroom. Came back. Sat there for 10 more minutes. THERE WERE TWO BARTENDERS AND THEY IGNORED ME! So I left. I suggest you do the same. read more

I stopped here during a motorcycle trip through Death Valley. You can't beat this place for atmosphere. When I showed up, there were 20 Harleys parked out front. It seems like a whole motorcycle club was in the bar. They had "One bourbon, one Scotch, and one beer" playing on the jukebox. An ancient, crusty, bartender was serving drinks. I had a burger and a beer. The beer was especially good after a couple of hours of riding through the desert. Sadly, the burger was mediocre. However, there are only a couple of choices for food in Beatty, so you take what you can get. As the other reviewers have mentioned, smoking is still allowed in NV. A couple of the bikers even lit up cigars. If you have sensitive lungs, you can always hang out in the back room or the porch. So, it's a great stop if you want some good atmosphere and a cold beer. read more

I loved the pack-rattish decor; lots to look at, and you can feel that there's a story behind every dollar/scribble on the walls and ceilings. Very nice people, though service was a bit frantic. Food was alright, nothing special. Will warm your belly after a long day in Death Valley. I had the pulled pork, which was meh, though I enjoyed the sides of beans, coleslaw, and fries. Interesting roadhouse bar. Sat at the bar with interest in drinking and ordering some food. The bartender thinks otherwise. He spent most of his time scurrying around behind the bar looking busy but accomplishing little. I finally got his attention and ordered a beer, everything here seems to take awhile. I got the beer and ordered a burger, another 30 minutes went by and I had to hold my glass and motion a few times for another beer. I finally got the burger, nothing to brag about here. Basic burger and a small pile of fries. There's a crowd of crusty old-timers hanging out at the bar. They all seem to sucking hard on the last drag of cig including the bartender. A few were wasted and mumbling nonsense. I'm old too, and used smoke and drink heavily. So seeing this in perspective is interesting but a lifestyle I choose not to live anymore. I think the place is worth a try. If the service were better the review would reflect it. read more

Anyone who's been to Beatty realizes it's tough to stand out as "weird" here. Impressively, our trip to the Sourdough Saloon still manages to stand out in this regard. I'm sure you've been to restaurants before where they let people write and draw all over the walls; usually, those places apply some quality control and get rid of vulgar/obscene additions. The Saloon, however, proudly displays them for all to see. I wouldn't bring kids here, although I have to admit I found some of the contributions entertaining and innovative. The smoking section of this place is so hazy that even the non-smoking area is about ten times denser than clean air. As for the food/service...again, very strange. Most of the menu was not available, including a side salad because, according to our waitress, her manager didn't want to open a new bag of lettuce. I have to say I'd never heard that one before. I was lucky since I ordered a burger, which at least tasted decent. My parents got a pizza which I can only assume the cook prepared by searching through the vegetable drawer, throwing what they found on some sauce and dough, and throwing it in the oven for an undetermined amount of time in the hopes it would turn out okay. Intriguingly, part of the pizza was overcooked and the other half undercooked. That takes skill. Not a place to go for a fine meal...but perhaps for a unique memory. read more

We stayed at a nearby inn and the manager strongly recommended this place. We came for dinner on a Friday, and the place was pretty busy. The front room, with the bar, was crowded (well, crowded for Beatty, a town of 1500), and was too smoky for our sensitive San Francisco lungs. So we went to the back room, which seemed to be a popular hangout for high school kids and senior citizens. In a way it was cool to get a glimpse of small-town America, where everyone knows your name, and the Sourdough Saloon is the hotspot for Friday nights. However, we were really hungry, and there was just the one lady working at the food counter. She was hurried practically off her feet, and had run out of almost everything, and it was only about 8 PM. She warned us that it would take at least 30 minutes before she could get started on our order; Beatty doesn't offer too many other choices (the Happy Burro next door had already closed its kitchen), so we decided to stay. My arteries will never thank me, though; my fish-and-chips were so greasy I should have blotted them dry first. My cousin said his BBQ chicken was actually, surprisingly, *really* good; somehow, maybe even the best BBQ chicken he had ever had. But the sides (coleslaw and Bush's baked beans) were pretty mediocre. Cheap, unremarkable, tasteless food. I would recommend the food at both the Ensenada Grill and Rita's Cafe over your options here. Check this place out, I guess, only if you want to grab a beer with the locals. read more

We came to Death Vally National Park and found this amazing bar and restaurant in nearby Beatty NV. We have since come here three days in a row. Wonderful home cooked meals, the best burgers, French fries and the pizza is amazing and made from scratch. Wonderful ambiance and a place where you instantly feel at home. A place that we so enjoyed after very long days of hiking. The beautiful owner Julianne Geffen welcomed us with flair and personality plus! If you're in DEath Valley, this is a must do. read more

I was going through NV to death valley when I reached Beatty. I grabbed a room at the motel across the saloon and asked the lady at the front desk "where can I get something to eat?". She told me "the saloon across the road has the best pizza I've ever tasted" (maybe she had never been outside Beatty) :) I went there and had a below average pie, but it really doesn't matter what the food taste like, the place is great just to sit around and watch the customers, and talk to the locals. The only thing that was kind of weird was the fact that both times that I went there (I stopped there on my way back as well), I had someone hit on me (yeah real working cowboy outfit and all). The one guy was pretty persistent too. Although I did tell him that I am straight and so not interested, he kept trying to get me to go with him to his hotel. The place is very interesting, and I would say that it is worth stopping by if you are in the area. read more

We stopped in here for a beer before calling it a night. The beer selection was amazing and the prices good. Complimentary bar snacks (pretzels) were making the rounds. We personally didn't eat there, but the food we say (and smelled) was pretty tastly looking and smelling! The decor was pure gear headed heaven! One of the best parts was their beer wall. If you like dives and characters this is your kind of place. Looking through the other reviews, I found the service to be prompt, but it's a big bar so wait your turn for a drink. Bartenders were efficient as could be. Beer was pretty standard, but the mixed drinks were strong pours. Food was bar fare so don't expect anything more. Burgers were good as were the fries. Pizza was good and not burnt. The real charm of this place is the paraphernalia on the walls (car parts from testing) and signed dollar bills from around the world. Want to catch darts? Meet friends? People watch? Attempt to mingle with locals? This is the bar. The walls are covered in car tester memorabilia and signed dollar bills. The beer is cheap and the drinks are strong. Typical pub fare in the menu, served until 10-11 whenever the cook gets off. Occasionally they'll host a prime rib dinner or pig roast. This place was a piece of shit. It was dusty and smelled bad. My friend and I reluctantly ordered a pizza and waited about 45 minutes and we finally asked the bar attendant about our food. He went back to into the kitchen and turns out our pizza hadn't even been put in the oven bc they were having some kind of difficulty. Wither way we asked for a refund and the bar tender had the nastiest attitude. I was shocked. What did he expect from us? That place was a fucking dump. Avoid at all costs! read more

We stopped at this place on a whim. So glad we did. The atmosphere was great, laid back and chill. Music playing in the background was just loud enough and the variety was pleasing. We had the 5 cheese pizza. Must say was excellent. Great selection of beer, 119 different ones plus a full bar. Our bartender, Tabby was fantastic. If you're ever in Beatty... for any reason, be sure to check out the Sourdough. It's the best bar in town and they also serve excellent pizza! I would recommend the veggie with jalapenos. Also, the bar has a really authentic wild west feel. You will see and meet many Beatty locals, it's such a time warp! It's always pretty busy, with many getting trashed. When I was there last, I saw this cowboy who looked like he'd stepped out of the 1930s. And he bought my friend and I a drink! This is the kind of bar where you may expect someone to buy a round for everyone there. Jukebox is heavy on country and southern rock... but hey, what else would you expect? Excellent and friendly service as well. Only bad points are tons of smoke, and their beer selection. They do have Sam Adams in bottles, but that's about the best you're getting. read more

On a road trip to visit my parents, I stopped for an overnight stay in Beatty, NV. There I had food and a drink at the Sourdough Saloon. The food and service was good. There were plenty of beers from which to choose. I also had a quick bourbon. Tabby was very friendly and helpful in taking my order and getting what I needed at the same time taking care of the others. It's the country bar in a backwater NV town, and it is true to that. As the inebriated lady next to me pointed out, "we play both types of music, country AND western." Beer is well, beer, and they can make you some pizza which was actually pretty good, if you like that top layer of almost burnt cheese. Again it's mostly locals, and I believe I saw the same regulars as the post before me, being a transient, it was easy to pick out the other non-locals pretty easy, but hey, whatever everyone likes beer. read more

Go with your gut. It will tell you to turn around, do so. Food was expensive for what you got and truly awful. My ribeye was $19, maybe 1/4 thick and fried in a skillet. Best BAR in the town!! The pizza there is pretty good. Great place to relax an drink! They have a PIG Roast the first weekend in June, which is usually a pretty big turn out. Considering that this place is in the middle of nowhere, this really is an oasis. This little bar totally completed my Death Valley wild west tour. We're Asians, so my adorable parents even wanted to take some pictures at this crazy old west bar. At first I was a little nervous because of all the smoke and cowboys, but it's actually really chill at the backroom and the server was really friendly. We had shrimp scampi(can you believe this place has seafood?!), baby back ribs, and hamburgers. The food was just average but the feel was great haha! The front of this place is a pub. An old bar with a smattering of locals. Out the back is the restaurant. There is plenty of car memorabilia and signed dollar bills on the walls and ceiling. We ordered the ribs. The ribs came out of the freezer to be defrosted. After the defrosting they are steamed. When they arrived at the table they were hot on the outside and still frozen on the inside. It was an underwhelming experience. read more

So I ordered a couple coors and was to hungry to wait for the menu but the bartender suggested the pizza which she prepares right in front of you pretty neat.
