    Packed house for Rush tribute!
    Audry P.

Last night I had the chance to check out this "local" bar for the Rush Tribute (done by Deja). I've never been to this bar, but have driven past it several times. The place was packed to the hilt, staff did a great job making sure the drinks were flowing (very little wait time) and that the crowd was behaving. This place offers weekly specials and last night was no different. $10 B-B-Q plate (chicken, pulled pork, and ribs) with coleslaw. Not a bad deal for delicious BBQ, and a large portion at that! The place was packed. But from what I saw, you need to arrive early if you want a place to sit. Rail seating at the bar is plentiful, and there are a few booths and tall table tops as well. Parking is extremely limited in front but there is additional parking out behind the bar. I've only visited this place once, so I'll need to go back and check it out on other nights to upgrade this review...should it meet the 5 star review "bar"

Pretty damn good cheeseburger and my free beer.

Let me say right off the bat this restaurant isn't getting four stars because of perfect service, cleanliness, or amazing food. They're getting four stars because they were friendly and welcoming and because the experience they provided was highly entertaining and will be remembered by my family for years to come. First off, I'm not a local, and this was very clearly a local joint. Second, we didn't plan on coming here. I was running in a nearby park and my kids were playing. We were disgusting and sweaty but so hungry we didn't want to go shower and change before eating. This did not end up being a problem. So we walk in, and there's a lot of people hanging out at the bar who all seem to know each other. Nobody is at the tables or booths. Nobody is eating. Everyone's a bit older than my husband and I, no kids. We stood there uncertainly for a bit before seating ourselves at a grubby booth (no clean ones to be seen) and my kids were captivated immediately by the tv screen showing an endless montage of puppies while a jukebox played Led Zeppelin in the background. Ok, nice touch, I was in damp workout clothes so kinda hypocritical to complain about the fingernail clipping I found in the seat next to me. Other reviews say the food is good so I'm game. A very friendly waitress greets us and takes our drinks order. My husband remarks afterwards that she seemed drunk or high. She kept forgetting what drinks we'd ordered (two sprites, a beer, and a coke), but got it right in the end. When we go to order food they're out of like half the menu. I'm starting to find it amusing, my first two choices aren't available but they have lumpia so I'm excited to have the kids try that. We place our order and wait, my husband watching the flirtation and attempts at seduction taking place at the bar among the older singles while my younger child squeezes and prods my face for entertainment. Oh, and he also loudly repeated me reading another Yelp review about how locals apparently call this place the Wrinkle Room. Hopefully nobody heard him? We wait a long time. Our waitress is visible here and there, tending bar, talking to a coworker, but no food. We wonder if she's forgotten us. They do seem short staffed but we really aren't sure. Finally our waitress approaches, flustered, explaining other food will be done soon, they're short as staff haven't returned since Covid lockdowns. We recognize this and I smile, tell her it's fine, we were wondering if maybe they were out of something but we're in no rush and as a nurse I totally understand short staffing. Our waitress - wish I could remember her name - will not be soothed. She insists on buying me a beer (just me, not my husband) and though I assure here it's fine and we get it, the beer appears in seconds. So I have to drink it of course. I'm a lightweight and quickly get tipsy. Our food arrives - it's pretty good! Nothing above and beyond, nothing that stands out, but good. They forgot our lumpia. It's fine, turns out our meals are huge anyway. The possibly not sober waitress kindly and happily takes our picture. We eat, another staff member brings us the bill. We leave cash in the table for the bill and tip. I'm dying laughing. I love this place. You should definitely check it out.

This wonderful Wednesday prime rib special was only $10.99 and wonderfully meaty and delicious!

Made us feel so welcome! We heard the South Beach Grill was great so checked it out on Prime Rib Wednesday. We had a deal of a great meal for $10.99, cooked medium rare as asked. It was just a little bit noisy, with lots of regulars that showed me it must be worth coming back to! Our sweet young server Abigail took great care of us, checked on us often, and used her sweet sense of humor when 90 year old Sam flirted with her. Everyone is so nice! Matt the legend, her boss, goofing around in a blond wig, backed up the servers, keeping everyone in drinks and making sure we all had a wonderful experience. It really was a fun evening, and we are going back next week!

Great value. Friendly staff. This is the 50-something singles hang out. We went there with two adults and four kids. Two drinks and five meals later, we left satisfied, spending only $62+ tip. I got the feeling the place picks up later on, but at 6pm on a Sunday, it was dead. The food was just okay, but a good value for the price. Medium burgers were a little dry. Mac n cheese bites were not hot in the middle, but my eight year old had no complaints. Great vacation stop for families.

South Beach Grill is your neighborhood bar that's packed to the hilt just about every night of the week. I'd always passed by this place and wondered "what are they doing in there?" as I debated why there were so many cars parked outside of this little bar in a small shopping center at the corner of Birdneck Road and Norfolk Avenue. The answer is that South Beach Grill has all your comforts of a neighborhood bar: foosball tables, pool tables, live bands every night, and a dance floor. Frequented mostly by your forty and up crowd, classic rock cover bands set the mood with this friendly crowd. But even for the younger crowd, this is a fun place with good music and lots of friendly people who like to drink.

Great service. Decent bar menu. Classic bar with lots of gaming if you're into that. Prices are reasonable. Neighborhood vibes.

I had high expectations, and somehow they still exceeded them. They're the highest rated seafood restaurant in the Virginia Beach area on Yelp, and for good reason. There was even a small wait on a Wednesday night, which honestly told me everything I needed to know before we even sat down. Our server, Jenny, was absolutely wonderful. She was friendly, attentive, and always seemed to show up right when we needed something. The head chef also stopped by our table and was incredibly kind and genuinely invested in making sure everyone was enjoying their meal. That level of hospitality really made the experience feel special. The meal started with a complimentary amuse-bouche of roasted golden beets, goat cheese, candied walnuts, and balsamic. It was a classy little bite that got the evening off to a great start. Then came the sweet potato biscuits with apricot jam...listen, I could've eaten an entire basket of those and been perfectly happy. For my entrée, I ordered the crab cakes with garlic mashed potatoes and seasonal vegetables. These are the kind of crab cakes people are looking for. They were packed with lump crab, full of flavor, and had virtually no filler. Every bite was delicious. From start to finish, everything was on point. Great food, genuine hospitality, and a team that clearly cares about what they're serving. It took me over a decade to make it back, but I can promise it won't be another ten years before my next visit. Highly recommend.

They were attentive and made sure we had everything we needed and even double checked to be sure what I ordered was gluten free. I ordered the Twisted Salmon Oscar (from the menu; Baked Atlantic salmon smothered in asparagus, lump crab meat, and dill-lime hollandaise sauce). It was sooooo good. I don't usually eat much but I ate way too much today! Larry enjoyed the Fresh seafood Combination with blackened flounder (from the menu; Fresh catch, sea scallops, and lump crab cake: broiled, fried, or blackened). He also ordered the Fried Eastern Shore Oysters (from the menu: Perfectly breaded, flash fried crispy, and served with our barrier island sauce) as an appetizer and said both were delicious. all of the food came out so quick and were perfectly cooked. While we waited we enjoyed drinks from the bar and they even brought out a small bit of poke, even making sure it was gluten free for me! And lets not forget desert. I enjoyed the creme brulee and Larry enjoyed the key lime pie. We probably shouldn't have had desert but how could we say no! The atmosphere is cozy and intimate. Perfect for a date night. We will most definitely be back!

From the moment we arrived, the hostess, Milk, was incredibly friendly, welcoming, and professional. She made us feel valued from the start, and throughout the evening she continued to provide excellent service to every table she assisted. She truly deserves recognition and a promotion. Unfortunately, our assigned server provided one of the worst dining experiences I've had. After taking our food and drink order, she returned only with our drinks and then disappeared for 15-20 minutes without checking on us. My friend's daughter's entrée arrived before our appetizers, and our appetizer--fried hard chicken wings--didn't arrive until about 20 minutes later. When we asked about the delay, the server said it was because we requested the wings to be fried hard. She then made a comment about "Black people in the kitchen cooking." Whether she intended it as a joke or not, the comment was unprofessional and made us uncomfortable. Because of the poor service and attitude, we asked if another server could assist us. While Milk continued to be wonderful, another employee with purple-blue hair was also very rude when we asked for assistance. Her attitude was dismissive and unpleasant. Later in the evening, around 11 p.m., I asked a staff member near the kitchen if they had lids for our seafood buckets. She responded "No" with an attitude. I then asked if they had to-go cups, and she said they did but claimed she was off duty. Less than 30 seconds later, she went behind the bar and began making and serving drinks, which made her response even more confusing. Shortly afterward, she began arguing with my friend at our table for no apparent reason. At that point, we asked Milk to get the manager. The manager came over, sat down with us, listened to our concerns, and apologized. He explained that he was actually off that day but had come in to help support the restaurant. We appreciated that he took the time to hear us out and said he would address the issues with his staff. The food itself was good, but good food cannot make up for poor customer service and disrespectful attitudes. We wanted this to be a memorable celebration for my friend's daughter, not an evening spent dealing with rude employees. Customer service is just as important as the food. Sadly, because of the experience we had, we will not be returning. I hope management invests in better customer service training because employees like Milk show what great hospitality should look like, while others left a very negative impression.

Six of us came in around 6:30 for a college reunion weekend, wanting one proper local seafood meal out of the trip. We put our names down and grabbed drinks from the bar before choosing a space to sit outside. The restaurant is really big, with indoor seating, outdoor sea-facing tables, and a little market in the back. There's also a picnic table area with some giant lawn game going, which is where we enjoyed our drinks, making the wait genuinely pleasant instead of something to endure. For our first round, we tried the "crush," the local specialty, and ordered one of every flavor. Fresh squeezed juice, flavored vodka, triple sec, Sprite. Grapefruit and cherry limeade were the winners. The pineapple was awful. None of them were very strong, so after the novelty wore off I moved on to something more my speed (nothing beats a tequila soda). They also have a respectable beer selection. Our table ended up right by the water with a view of the boats, and our waitress was so helpful walking us through the menu, including the fact that lumpia is a local specialty here thanks to the area's Filipino population, which I did not know. We got oysters and three other appetizers, then split one entree between every two people since the portions are enormous. The fried shrimp was the unanimous favorite, and the spinach crab dip, lumpia, blackened crab cake (almost everyone ordered it), potato salad, and hushpuppies were all excellent. All of that, plus roughly two cocktails a person and tip, came to about $50 each, which felt like quite the steal for high quality seafood! Big attached parking lot, docks if you're coming in by boat, and the market sells shirts, hats, fresh crab meat, take-home versions of the appetizers, and fishing basics. There was a bit of a line/wait if you wanted to use the women's restroom (but isn't that the case everywhere?) I would definitely come back here next time I'm in town!!
