We stopped in with friends during a weekend trip to Lancaster and had an enjoyable meal. The atmosphere was lively, our server was friendly, and it was a great place to relax after a day out. We started with the pretzel and wings, both of which were solid, while the cream of crab soup was decent. Around the table we also had the pizza, flank steak, and I ordered the salmon. The salmon was cooked well, although I would have preferred the feta served on the side since I don't typically pair cheese with fish. Overall, everyone left happy with their meals, and the restaurant had a fun, welcoming vibe. I've had South County beers over the years and already knew their reputation for great stuff thanks to friends. This was my first visit to any of their locations and I really enjoyed it. This one is in downtown Lancaster, so it's easy to get to if you're walking from other breweries, bars, or historic sites. They also have easy parking in a garage nearby, it's cheap but not validated. In the warm months, they have a ton of outdoor seating in the courtyard, that I'm sure is a fun place to be. Inside is also huge, with tables and booths toward the back, a full kitchen, and bar area up front. I also loved the little sofa areas in the window. At the host stand, they also have brewery merchandise. We sat at the bar; they don't do flights so I chose a couple smaller pours of the beers that sounded the best. The all lived up to my memory. The bartender was also super friendly, as was the host. It was a weekday early afternoon and it seemed like everyone there was already enjoying themselves. They have a great selection of fresh to-go beers as well. Prices are reasonable for the quality. If you're a beer fan exploring beautiful downtown Lancaster, this is a great place to stop for a pint. read more

We normally don't get pizza out just anywhere, but they have a brick oven and the pepperoni pizza was excellent. My friend had the cheese pizza and loved it too. Alex was our server and was very attentive. A really great personality. I love sitting in the courtyard. When this was the Pressroom I was here all of the time. I love the waterfalls also, so relaxing. NOW for what I didn't like. They now charge 3% for credit card use. This is a pet peeve of mine. Credit Card companies have charge every business a fee for their use. It is not something new. Grocery stores, movies, bars, department stores, sporting events, etc. This is a scam in my opinion. My advise average out the cost of the CC and raise your prices to meet that demand, or raise your prices and give me a discount for cash. Almost no one carries cash, captive audience. IT IS AGAINST THE LAW TO CHARGE FOR A DEBIT CARD USE, IT IS NOT A CREDIT CARD AND THE BANK DOES NOT CHARGE 3%. Durbin Amendment (part of the Dodd-Frank Act of 2010), prohibits merchants nationwide, including Pennsylvania, from applying surcharges to debit card transactions. read more

My family and I sang at St. Leo the Great Catholic Church (see my review!) and a member of the choir recommended South County Brewing for a post-concert party. What a great experience. This very lively and loud atmosphere was just what we needed after the quietness of church. About 18 of us came later in the evening after the main rush hour and had to take up two of the high top tables to accommodate us. We had more than one server, but Maggie was more than accommodating and helpful to get everything ordered and our drinks filled. One thing that I found surprising was they were able to run separate tabs for everyone with their payment system. I had a special tonight of the surf and turf burger which was a 4oz crab cake over the burger and a slice of American. Came with decent fries. I also had a Mexican lager. The burger was cooked just how I wanted. My wife had a cheese pizza which was on the ok side. My kid had pulled pork and loved it. Had all the sides like cole slaw. Someone ordered the onion rings and OMG they were delicious. The restaurant/brewery is right in the heart of Main Street Lancaster, and hundreds of people were out and about enjoying the wonderful weather. We almost closed the place down after 11pm, but my family and I had to get out of town for a long drive home. I wish I took more pictures, but I'm sure you'll like what you get here. $92 including tax and tip for three adults. Three drinks and three mains. They've come a long way from being just a garage operation! South County is one of the best breweries to come out of central PA, and I was so excited when they took over the old Pressroom location in downtown Lancaster! The space is gorgeous and they've done a nice job renovating -- plenty of seating in the front, with booth and chair options, and the really long bar. There's also to-go fridge at the entrance, along with some merch options. There's more seating in the "Kings Hideaway" room in back that can be used for private events/parties. There's a separate bar back there as well as big screen TVs. We went for Mother's Day and enjoyed a light lunch (amazing charcuterie and a very generous beet salad) and all my favorite beers -- Sound Machine, Sonic Bloom, Stellar Phase, Liminal Moment. Even though there was only one server on hand to manage the back room when we arrived, she did a great job checking in on the tables, keeping drinks filled, etc. She explained the special menu items and was knowledgeable about the beers, too, which is always a big plus to me. This place looked interesting on their food menu. We got the Mac and cheese app for the kids and it was very tasty! We also got the pizza special which was 1 topping pizza for $12. The pizza was a nice size but there was too much cheese so it overpowered everything. I was excited for the bbq but overall disappointed. The brisket was not tender at all and I had to dip in the bbq sauce a lot. The pulled pork was better of the two but it was Very dry. I don't normally like baked beans but these were very good! I liked the coleslaw, it was more vinegary and dry, not too much mayo. The cornbread had a dense texture but the butter was good. read more

Amazing. Food, atmosphere, service...perfect. Out of town and stumbled upon the outside patio from the beautiful waterfall (as we were walking to another restaurant). Arrived without a reservation on a Thursday night and were seated quickly. (As a note we have been twice now and it does fill up rather quickly.) The restaurant was incredibly well staffed, servers were knowledgeable and attentive. Food came out incredibly fast. I think the most wait time we had was for our drinks and even that could not have been more than 10 minutes, and we didn't mind because the server checked in with us before our glasses were empty. Dishes are both familiar but have an interesting twist. Our favorite pizza so far has been the Sausage Fresno (100% recommend trying this, it's so good you may not want to share). Arrived at 7:05pm on Friday. It was packed and I had no reservations. Luckily they were able to seat 2 of us on a shared high table right away! Virginia was our server and she was awesome. We got the buffalo brussel sprouts to share: it was burnt but I think intentionally to draw out its sweetness and nicely coated with not too much buffalo sauce. My daughter got the huge pretzel with hot mustard and beer cheese. Oh so tender pretzels with the right amount of salt. She also got the chili, which she thoroughly enjoyed, but the corn bread was dry (although the honey butter was still good). I got the pulled pork sandwich that came with soggy fries. The sando was good. I also had 3 half pints: Sound Machine, Phosphene Dream, and Snap Back IPA. I liked Sound Machine the best, but each had their own merit for what they were. For ex Snap Back was def a west coast IPA that was dank, lots of resinous hops and true to style. Virginia was wonderful; I loved her constant smile and was very pleasant. We were encouraged to check this place out, and boy are we glad we did! At about 7:00pm on Saturday night the place was definitely jumping, but it never felt too crowded. Our waiter moved quickly but we never felt hurried or forgotten. The food was excellent! We opted for bbq dishes like brisket and ribs, although there were plenty of alternatives like steak, salmon and salads. The only slight disappointment was with the dessert options; mainly ice cream. But at least it's Fox Meadows ice cream, so they got that part right too. We're not in Lancaster often, but when we do visit we'll be sure to come back. read more

We did not have a reservation. We approached the host who gave energy we were bothering her. We were told we would be added to the list and it would be a 15 minute wait. We got a drink from the bar and waited. Almost every table was empty while 5 servers huddled in a tiny server station chatting. The beer and selection are great. It's a great place for tourists, but for me, a year-round local I have better restaurant choices. The food is average. I'm more choose the restaurant I go to for consistency of service. Open for about a year the management learning curve should be over. The staff turnover rate seems like I have a trainee nearly each time I visit. Glad to see someone new learning- but it does take away from my experience. Retired from the industry I like to walk in into consistency of service and faces. Request specific servers for instance. I just hope the owners of Lancaster brewing take a look at their on-site management - experience tells me there's dysfunctionality there. There are too many similar brewery restaurants in Lancaster with consistency of service and faces to choose from. So if you just like to drink beer at the bar, this is just one of the above average options. Other than that, Lancaster brewery on King Street gets lost in the fog of a non-stand-out options in food but more for inconsistency of service and faces for a Lancaster restaurants. read more
