Great for hosting events. South House Garden is definitely ideal for the brunch and large guest accommodation. There were literally towers of mimosas at every table. There is a decent sized bar to accommodate guest while waiting for tables service. The ambiance and decor is made for photos with the lust greenery and nature theme. There are swing set seats at the table which seems like a fun idea. The food stood on its own. I'm going to recommend the deviled eggs particularly the shrimp ones which I order to go. The salmons ones were quite tasty as well but the shrimp beat it out. The steak bites and eggs is also a solid dish. Super tender and flavorful and perfect if you have a big appetite or wish to finish later. The presentation of the food was very nice. We had a terrible experience at South House Garden. My wife and I sat at the bar around 6:30 PM and were given two menus with the same items but different prices. I asked for a Miller Lite, but the bartender told us the line wasn't working properly. I switched to a Dos Equis, but after he poured it, one sip made it clear it wasn't Dos Equis. I asked the bartender to try it (which he did) and he admitted the taps were likely reversed. I then switched to a Bud Light, which finally came as it should. ​We ordered off the initial menus we were given. Afterward, my wife went to take a few pictures of the recently renovated space and found a happy hour menu sitting on another table. Sitting directly at the bar, we had no idea happy hour was happening; had we known, our order would have been completely different. I was upset we weren't informed - really I don't know if it was done on purpose. When I asked the bartender why we weren't given the happy hour menu, he just said he forgot. ​I ordered the Cajun pasta and didn't care for it, though my wife ordered the pork chop and enjoyed it. Another bartender eventually took over and did a great job trying to ease our frustration. ​Arriving at 6:30 PM on a Friday to a completely dead restaurant should have been our first red flag. This is the first and last time we will visit. Management seriously needs to retrain their staff and rethink their priorities, or this place will close within the year. read more

I dined here with a friend who has been here before and really likes the food. There is construction going on, so a portion of the restaurant is taped off. The restaurant is decorated with fake flowers on the walls. It was pretty empty, so I was seated right away and my friend joined me shortly after. Our server was pleasant and attentive. She also let me know it was happy hour. No issues there. I ordered a lemon drop and the old bay wings with a side salad. They were out of lettuce (which is understandable at this time), so I ordered collard greens w/ the Tijuana pork chops. A young man came out to tell me that they were out of collards, so that left no green vegetable option. I opted for Parmesan fries. My friend ordered the fish sandwich and salmon egg rolls. She also placed a to go order, which came out with the entrees. I thought it was odd that it didn't come out towards the end of our meal, but she didn't mind. The lemon drop was ok. Tasted a bit heavy on the simple syrup, but it was a cool drink. The old bay wings were really good, just needed a touch more old day and they would have been perfect. The Parmesan fries were very good. This was my very first time ordering pork chops at a restaurant and unfortunately my pork chops were spoiled. They looked a little dry, but they were fried and I figured they might still taste ok. I tasted a bit and instantly lost my appetite. The server took them away and asked if I wanted to order something else, but I declined. My friend said all of her food was fine and good. Overall, the food was the highlight of our visit. We started with the pretzel, birria tacos, steak & cheese egg roll appetizers, and the voodoo shrimp and the first three named were absolutely delicious. The shrimp is also a good option, but not a total stand out. The pizza was flavorful with a great crust, and the burger was cooked perfectly and just as impressive. My party also got a salmon salad and Cajun pasta with the salmon, and both were good as well. From a food standpoint, the kitchen definitely delivered. The atmosphere is cute and has a lot of potential, but the music was so loud that it made it difficult to have a conversation at our table and we ultimately had to ask for it to be turned down a bit. At the time, my party was the only one there, so they were able to accommodate the request. Two things from our early dinner left a lot to be desired. The staff didn't come across as particularly friendly or welcoming. Our waitress had some difficulty taking our order and answering questions about the menu, which could have been because the music was loud at the time. Also, despite having a full bar, they said we could only order drinks from their cocktail menu. The biggest disappointment came when we reviewed our bill after leaving. A 20% gratuity had already been added to our check, as a "service charge" in the total. Normally this would be fine, but we unknowingly added a 20% tip, because it hadn't been specified that "tip" or "gratuity" were added already. While I understand that I should have looked more closely at the receipt, it would be great if they state it more explicitly on your merchant copy receipt. read more

Came here with a party for brunch on a Sunday afternoon. Place was made for pics, so very aesthetically focused. Service was good, food came out way faster than I expected. I got the maple glazed chicken, which was essentially chicken and French toast. It was spectacular!! The French toast was quite literally the thickest I've ever had, but still cooked through and soooo good! The fried chicken was also cooked well and not dry. The hot sauce and honey worked great together and only used a tiny bit of syrup for the end of the French toast. Been to south house many of times. Unfortunately it is not as good as what it used to be. I ordered the Cajun pasta with salmon. It did not look as advertised. In the picture it was penne noodles instead of fettuccine. The taste was good but could've used more Cajun seasoning. The service was good. I was able to order my to go order as soon as I walked in. And I got a drink from the bartender. She was very friendly and welcoming. The price of my drink when I paid vs the price on the menu was different. It was more expensive as always. The ambiance was decent. Not too many ppl there on the weekday. I wish they would bring back the DJ and the games they used to have. I think it would a nice addition. I visited south house with my friend for a brunch date. The inside is your typical flower wall aesthetic however it was pretty and I loved the swings inside, very cute. We were seated at a high table and I'm assuming there was an issue with the ac unit being water dripped on me the whole time. We ended moving our seats at the same table and the water still managed to splash on me. I ordered the avocado toast and the Mac trio. I didn't realize how large the space is until I went to the bathroom, but not only is there a large bar area with lots of bar stools, there is also a number of high tops, some tables with swings that you can sit on, and a few pool tables in the back. I can see this being a nice spot to catch the game as well. Keep in mind that this restaurant is basement level, and the train tracks run RIGHT by the windows. We ended up here for their happy hour, which runs through 7p on Friday. It's a pretty good deal, which offers discounted pricing on their apps and half off the towers. We ordered the birria tacos, two types of wings, salmon egg rolls, seafood dip, and a full margarita tower (with a mango/passionfruit mix). I enjoyed all of the apps, with the exception of the BBQ wings, which tasted like fast food wings. The mix in the margarita tower was a bit too sour for me as well - I think next time, I will try sangria. I do like that they give you the option to mix multiple flavors in the tower. Aside from the food, the service was a little spotty as well. The waiters and bar staff were pretty friendly, but they weren't always available when we needed them and the food either came out piecemeal or went to the wrong table a couple of times. However, happy hour is definitely a good value and the items we had were solid both taste and temperature-wise. I would absolutely come back for HH. The margarita had the right balance of fruitiness and alcohol taste (not watery or syrupy). The giant pretzel was filling with the right amount of chew (and not too salty). This place is a solid hit or miss. They have a great happy hour if you get there early before it gets crowded. The deals are fantastic especially if you're headed there with a group. The food and apps have decent variety and the pizza is a bit better than any mass chain around. Please get the half drink tower of the old town I believe it's vodka and passion fruit and it is so delicious and gets the job done ! This is a great place for family and friends as well as a celebration as they can accommodate large groups. They also have several opportunities for photo ops. Lastly , Jasmine the best waiter this restaurant may ever have ! She was beyond amazing, she was super sweet , very kind and so helpful. The food was hit or miss, but overall acceptable. However.... The service was pretty terrible. Our server was nice and friendly, but they constantly forgot what we ordered and the food came out really really slow. There was always one or two people who had a missing order and was sitting there staring at other people eat. The food was very standard sports bar food, so it was surprising how long it took. There is an automatic 18% gratuity charge, which I would be fine with if we had an at least average level of service.
