I was searching for tailors around the area and decided to give this place a shot after reading the reviews, and this place will definitely be my go to going forward!! The shop is tucked away in this shopping alley with a few other businesses so you can't really see it from the street. Small shop but she was so nice and helped with hemming two of my jeans. Very reasonably priced ($10 for each hemming or $20 hemming with the original ends). I opted for the $10 one (pic below). She made sure it was the length I wanted, specifically with the shoes I'd be wearing with it so it wasn't too long or short. I dropped it off on the 12/23 and it was ready by Saturday, 12/26 so pretty fast turnaround time! I know this place since 2018. And now this becomes the only place I would go if I want to get my clothes tailored. The tailor Luong is very professional and kind. Her skills outweighed all other tailors I've tried. I have tried 3 other tailoring places in Pasadena. Although they might have a slightly cheaper price, their skills are not comparable to Luong's. I have brought my blouses, skirts, dresses. No matter the fabric are lather, silk, or synthetic, she treats them very well. And the results are always perfectly. Came in on a Friday and needed a cocktail dress tailored for the following Tuesday, all though she is closed Sunday and Monday she was able to have it ready for me to pick up and wear for a special event that evening. I brought a chain strap dress and needed it taken in some as well as one of the chains removed. Excellent tailoring-- you can't even tell she removed or took in anything but the dress now fits me like a glove. Luong is amazing! It was my first time going to her and she is so personable and kind. I had a pair of cloth overalls that were too long for my 5'3" height and wanted to shorten them. The owner did a poor and sloppy job on the alternation of my dress. She snagged my dress and said it didn't matter because it was on the inside and not visible. She stained my dress lipstick. She also sewed the buttons on backwards and when I confronted her about it she got very defensive and said I gave her the dress like that. She sewed the buttons right there and then (took her 2 minutes) and they were not aligned. I asked her to put the buttons in a straight line like it was intended and she did. Then I asked her for a discount because she did an awful job and accused me of being in the wrong the entire time. And she said no. She tried to snatch the dress from my hands and blocked the door as if I was going to grabs my arm when I got the dress back. She then said If I wanted to I could call the police, which I should have in hindsight. There were multiple witnesses. I paid. I left. And I will never be coming back here again. To top it off, there were other areas of the dress that needed fixing because she did a sloppy job in all the parts but the encounter was too much and not worth my emotional distress of being in that place. I call to see if they do repairs, they say yes. I spend my time to go there and tell me that they can NOT fix a torn hole for a button on some jeans and didn't even care enough to look closely. Then say it's $40 to replace the Zipper on my jacket which seemed unreasonable and they didn't take my jacket after I said okay. Very upset with her work. Brought her 4 pair of pants and a sport coat. She did fine on two pair of pants, sewed a pocket shut on a third pair and shortened the legs too much on the fourth. She absolutely destroyed the sport coat, shortened the arms way way too much, made the back crooked somehow, only measured one arm so the arms were uneven. She shortened the coat from the sleeves, while the craftsmenship was good, it was far too aggressive and uneven. I felt like the sleeve length was fine in the beginning, but she upsold me on an expensive job. Overall, pants and coat were $350, standard to expensive for this kind of work, but she managed to completely ruin a $1200 sports coat and two pair of $300 linen pants. When I picked them up she said they were fine. They weren't. I wasn't going to give her another shot nor argue. I paid, IN CASH, as she only takes cash in 2018, and took my stuff to another tailer in Beverly hills where I had to pay roughly the same amount to fix the items. Moral of the story: she is good with standard cotton pants, anything beyond that, take to her at your own risk. I can't say anything about women's clothes, maybe that is her strong point? read more

I used to take my pants to Men's Wearhouse (Westfield Santa Anita Mall, Arcadia) but they no longer tailor pants if they are purchased elsewhere. Bummer, because I was happy with their work and it was right across the street from my house. After searching for a number of new tailors, I selected South Lake Tailor with reservation based on some of the reviews I read and decided to test her with two pairs of men's dress slacks. Both pairs of pants required major work such as the waist taken in/out, and the legs redone because the pant legs were quite baggy. I was hesitant but really wanted to wear these pants. A week later I picked up my pants and they turned out great. I tried both on with dress shoes I brought along with me and they fit and looked terrific. In fact, I am wearing one of these dress slacks now. The owner is friendly and pleasant while her shop is small (there isn't a whole lot of room to move around). There is plenty of parking in the back. All in all, I'll be coming back to South Lake Tailor in the future. read more

Don't say I didn't warn you. Somehow this tailor gets positive marks. I have NO idea how. (The cute building with otherwise nice shop owners and paying for Yelp ads I suspect.) I have been to tailors all my life (and have met several wonderful ones) and have never encountered the rudeness, attitude, and total unprofessionalism we experienced here. We brought a pair of suit pants; my husband needed the waist taken out. He asked to try them on to make sure it would work. She refused and said she would just measure his waist. We thought it odd but she was so rude and abrupt we didn't really have a choice. We returned a week later when she said they would be ready. This time my husband insists on trying them on to make sure they fit. Nope, too tight. He tells her that's why he wanted to try them on when he brought them in. She gets snippy and defensive and says he still has to pay for them. He says they don't fit and we would have known they could not be let out enough if she had simply let him try them on during the first visit. By now other customers are chiming in and my husband just wants to leave. She says he cannot take the pants without paying -- even though she can see her mistake: they don't fit because she was stubborn and only measured his waist. She says if he wants them back, she will TAKE THEM BACK IN (like they were when we brought them in!) and then he can pay for them. Would you pay for an item that doesn't fit when the tailor would not let you try it on? Would you come back and pay for an item that is now the same size it was when you brought it in? I hope she enjoyed taking the pants back in -- and has someone who will wear them. We will never be back for them. I don't subject myself to people of this ilk more than once. Good luck to her. She also fixed up a suit that another tailor had butchered a bit, and then my big.. ahem.. had ripped. I called and asked her if she could take in the sides of a dress for my girlfriend for Christmas. She said, "Sure! I could take in the sides. Bring it right in! Do you have one of her shoes I could see?" "Uh, a shoe?" "Yes. A shoe helps me with the dress." "Oh! Hmm... Maybe, I'm not sure if she left any of her shoes at my place. I can bring her shoe size though and her measurements if that would work?" "If you have measurements, it is fine." "Are you sure you can do it today? I need it before Christmas." "Yes! Any time today." "Ok, I'm leaving right now then!" I give away the surprise to my girlfriend and tell her I got her a dress and that I need her measurements and her shoe size. My girlfriend uses a seamstress tape and sends me her bust, waist, and hips measurement. I got right over to the seamstress in Pasadena, but drove in the opposite direction of another tailor who said they could also do it. When I arrived, the woman seemed to be analyzing me and my clothes scrutinizingly. She said "I'm sorry, but I can't help you with this." "You can't? Why not?" "Well... she needs to be in person." "Shoot! Over the phone you said you could just use her shoe size and measurements. These are her measurements, she measured herself again with a tape to confirm her measurements.. and I even have her shoe size, which you asked for!" The woman looks me up and down. "Sorry, can't do it for you." "It is a Christmas present, you said you would, I feel like weeping, because the other tailor who could do it closes way earlier than you and is on the other side of town and the holiday traffic is terrible. I would never make it." "Sorry. No can do." She didn't even say goodbye and walks back to her desk and turns her head away from me. I felt like she judged me by how I looked and made up a fake excuse, changing her story that my girlfriend needed to be there. Now I have an unaltered dress for Christmas. This woman is a serious Bah Humbug I tried getting to the other tailor all the way across town. They were so much nicer, but with traffic, I was arriving at their closing time. "Oh, you called? If you had gotten here earlier we could have helped, but we are closing soon. So sorry! You could leave it here and we could do it on Tuesday?" "No, sorry, even though it isn't tailored, I need to give it to my girlfriend on Christmas." I wish I had gone to this second tailor first! Next time I will and will never be back to this woman in Pasadena. If you bring something to be tailored -- Make sure you wear a suit or maybe look a lot different than me. The wedding was in TWO weeks-- oh crap! My other friend recommended this tailor, and let me tell you... she not only let it out so it fit my body (any boobs-there was a gap up top) PERFECTLY in only three days - but she ALSO fixed the straps so they weren't loose AT ALL. I brought my wedding dress here to have it fitted and tailored for the big day! Luong did a great job with my dress which needed to be taken up in length and have the waist and bust let out. My dress was not an easy one to alter, either. The skirt is about 10 layers of organza and silk and the bodice is lace. She got the length perfect and after two fittings she nails the fit on the top of the dress. All the alterations for my dress came out to $400 which was average to slightly less than quotes I got from other tailors. The whole thing took two weeks but if I hadn't been so picky she definitely could have done it all in one week! She also did my mom's dress for the wedding which just needed to be taken up in length which cost $60. She prefers cash to credit card, although she takes credit too. I'm in my 40s and started to think that all tailors were just average. Now I know that amazing tailors still exist!!!! I would drive past 200 other tailors to get to South Lake, for any alteration, from a pant hem to a suit. Once you take your clothes here, you will not bring them anywhere else. This professional knows how clothes are supposed to fit and will work with you to make it happen. I have been coming this business for years. I have had pants, shirts, vests and suits worked on by her and she is nothing short of fabulous. I think she has a very good skill to take in my boxy, billowy older suits and slim them down to a modern fit. One must be aware that this "new suit" may have a slightly longer crotch then you would expect from an off the rack modern fit suit but I get another few years of life from suits I love. I bought a very nice suit where the sleeves have functional cuffs (re: real button holes), I needed the sleeves shortened and this has to be done at the shoulder seam, to make it even more challenging the suit is pinstriped and she has to match the stripes as she shorted it.
