I went to Rich at South Town Barbers for a couple of years, but finally stopped coming here as it was a bit of a far drive from my house. Rich is a nice guy with a small, simple barber shop offering haircuts and straight shaves at reasonable prices. He is very friendly, easy to talk to and he cuts hair with a lot of skill and years of passion devoted to his craft. He takes cash or card, which is appreciated, and he is open on Sundays as well, only by appointment, but is a nice feature when many other barbers are off on that day. Richard is RUDE and a BULLY! He gives NO grace to his paying customers! My 83-year-old elderly father has been going to Richard for almost 2 years to get his haircut and he's never missed an appointment, except for one time, last week when he wasn't feeling well, and forgot about his hair appt. He called Richard to apologize for not making his appointment and to reschedule. Note, the full conversation was placed on speakerphone in which I witnessed. During the conversation Richard DID NOT disclosed to my father, when rescheduling his appointment, that he would charge him the FULL AMOUNT OF THE MISSED HAIR APPOINTMENT IN ADDITION TO HIS HAIRCUT TODAY. So today AFTER my father was done with his haircut, Richard basically blindsided him with the EXTRA CHARGE for the missed hair cut, and very rudely told him, "IF HE DIDN't PAY THEN DONT BOTHER COMING BACK"!!! His haircut is usually $25, but he had to pay $50, and of course my Father (being a faithful customer) paid the extra amount, even after being spoken to like that. He left there feeling pretty upset about the way he was treated. A business is supposed to DISCLOSE IN WRITTEN NOTICE all late fees and no show fees to the customer beforehand. Richard FAILED to disclose any of this to my Father, nor did he verbalize it to him over the phone, which I was a witness to. If Richard wanted to do the right thing for good will, he would do as most people would, and either let the missed appointment slide as a courtesy because it was a first time offense, or charge a lesser no-show fee which should be 1/2 the charge of the normal fee. But instead he chose to bully and disrespect one of his faithful paying elderly customers!!! It's obvious that Richard doesn't have any respect for his elders, nor for his faithful paying customers! read more

My husband and son had a head shave with a beard trim and a classic fade. When we first got there they only had the appointment for my husband scheduled but I made the appointment for both of them. They were still able to fit my son in thank goodness. The haircuts ended up really good and the guys enjoyed themselves. The puppy there is a nice touch. read more

I called them to make an appointment for my 10 year son and they hung up on me. When I called back they let it ring to voicemail. I was shocked and called back a few times to make sure it was not a one off and each time I got voicemail. I'm very picky when it comes to getting my hair cut. I like having a place I can call ahead to make appointment same day and when you call they answer right away and they got me in same day. The place is simple and no frills. Not a salon feel at all, but that's a good thing considering it's a barber shop. Richard cut my hair effortlessly and it came out great. I will never send anyone to this place. The man is rude and cold. His shop was empty and he has a dog there. I happen to be in the parking lot waiting to get word on if I need to euthanize my dog at the place next door and just wanted to say hello to his golden(I have 2 of my own) . He snapped at me when I walked in the door without even asking why I was there. I was visibly upset and had tears in my eyes and he basically kicked me out his shop stating he was trying to have a client come in. I was not in the way and there is plenty of room for people inside. He made it clear he didn't want anyone in the store unless there's money in it for him. Asked to give my son a low fade tapered on the sides, and he gave him a bowl cut from hell! Now my son looks Jim Carey from dumb n dumber. Great guys tho just ones terrible at cutting. You never can tell about these things from Yelp reviews but I'm glad I found South Town Barbers. Called in the AM and got an appointment same day. Richard was super friendly and did a great job with my hair and my beard. I walked in looking a mess (no joke) and walked out of there feeling (and looking) like a new man. Shop was clean and I liked that there weren't TV's blaring away garbage that I wasn't interested in watching. I'm willing to pay for quality so I feel the price was just about right. I made an appointment to get a haircut today. First thing when I walked through the open door, the guy asked me to wait outside until he swept up from the last customer. It wasn't the end of the world to wait in the 97° heat, but it also wasn't a welcome showing any consideration for me. I started to explain how I wanted it, but he interrupted telling me get in the chair first & then tell how I wanted it. In the chair, he kept hounding me to move forward in the chair and then lean back, straighten up my head, don't look down.....on and on the whole time. Cranky guy! I have never had a barber so contrary. He was the only barber there, and while cutting my hair, he must have stopped to answer his phone about ten times while trying to cut my hair. With all that, it still seemed very little time until he said he was done. He held a mirror so I could see the back, but argued when I wanted to see a different angle. Without being able to check closely, I decided to check it out at home. I paid him his $25 plus a tip of $5. At home after a shower & shampoo, i could plainly see the hair at the back of my was at least 3/4 inches lower on the right side. It was unbelievably obvious! He did not leave a quarter inch bare above my ears as I said I wanted. He did not cut hair above my ears at all. He suddenly cut my eyebrows, but they are uneven. They are too short to correct his work. At home, with my own trimmers, I worked on making corrections for close to an hour. This is one of the worst haircuts in my life. Been in three times got Richard every time. Probably a nice guy outside shop, brings his dog to the shop, remembers your name, likes sports, but really sucks as a barber, probably shouldn't be cutting hair. Arrived super early, got excited watching the other barber Steve take his time and do a perfect bald fade on some dude, in the same time Richard did two other cuts plus mine. Sat there hoping I was gonna get Steve, but never have, apparently you only get Steve if you request him. Actually a part of me feels bad for Richard, he's older, a little hunched over and a bit shaky. Each time asked for skin fade, averaged ten minutes in the chair each time and left looking like my kid cut my hair. The bottom was left like long fuzz each time. He thought he was convincing me by using a foil shaver along the bottom. I don't think he even knows that only short stubble can be cut by a shaver, anything longer will sound like it's cutting but it literally does nothing. Then for the shave around the ears he puts a little dab under each sideburn and a little dab on the sides of the neck, took 15 seconds, don't think he even shaved anything, again just for show. This guy Richard really should either be at Stupid-cuts or Walmart or should lower his price to $8. He told me he's been a barber for 40 years, you'd think he'd be a little better, I have trouble respecting people who are comfortable turning out shoddy work and charging full price. I can't believe he and Steve have the same prices, anyone who gets Richard is really getting screwed. I don't need 10 minutes of joke-telling and BS about jeeps and oogling over the dog, felt like it was all distractions to keep people from really inspecting the haircut. Steve on the other had said like two sentences to his customer so you know his clippers do his talking. I can't recommend this place if you're gonna go to Richard, just not a good barber, sorry for the bad review. read more

This is one of the only barbers I know of in the South Reno area. Be sure to call in for an appointment and generally a day ahead is fine if not a call in the morning did a later one later I the day. It is worth calling in to get a great haircut. My son went and was very pleased with the service and quality of the cut. As he gets older the chain places are not cutting it for him (Excuse the pun). Living on the South end of town, it was hard to find someone to cut my hair without going to one of those garbage Great Clips, or something similar. I have always had pretty bad luck with those places, and now that I have found South Town Barbers that's a thing of the past. I get my haircut by Rich, and he is absolutely fantastic. He does a great job, he is a great person and I couldn't be happier with the cut he gives every time. I highly recommend anyone that is looking for a great barber shop to give these guys a shot. As they require appointments, I have tried calling multiple times with no answer and an automated "mailbox full" message.
