I love this cozy local, slow food place created by the community for the community. They support the training of youth as workers, so please realize that this is a training experience for them and don't expect perfection. If you are bothered by something, just talk to them about it politely, and they will fix it. Ask for the manager if you are not satisfied with the response. They aim to please but this is a training experience. Great coffee, pastries, and a limited menu, all delicious. I recommend the Pad Thai which is an enormous helping, enough for two, and any of their sumptuous home made soups, one vegan and one regular choice each day. They are also a used book store and a place to buy new books by Whidbey authors. You will really get a sense of South Whidbey if you eat here. Many of us meet here to plan our next adventures in art, music, social services, politics, and more. You support community when you buy your food here! read more

I visited the Commons on Tuesday 8/31/21 with a friend from Coupeville. Our entrees (egg scramble and chicken pesto sandwich) were good but the Coconut Curry soup was excellent! The inside is undergoing a remodel and due to that and Covid, the only seating is outside on the colorful front patio. The food did take some time to get to us but there is also a posted sign that they are understaffed. So, come hungry and bring your patience to the Commons and you will have a good experience. Refused service to 10+ utility workers after placing a $200 order. Was told if we did not leave that we would be physically removed. Was told we had to leave because we moved some tables and we were not wearing our masks while seated eating chips waiting for our orders. read more

Charming place to stop for a snack or light meal right in the middle of Langley. The garden seating is delightful and there's a great selection of food and drinks, with innovative specials on the chalkboard. Nice people working there too. read more

Very slow for food. Got the coffee within 5 minutes but the food took 25-30 minutes and still wasn't done. We ended up cancelling the order. After waiting 25 minutes we asked the stays. One person said it was "getting boxed" and the other person said it would be 10 more minutes. Lack of communication to customer. Wouldn't order food from here again. WARNING there was paper in my husband's wrap. My husband didn't know what was in his wrap until he bit into a piece of paper! This was just one of the awful things about this cafe. The food was really late, my bread was toasted when I asked for plain bread, the wrap (with paper) was not good even without the paper. I think the health inspector should stop by and analyze what is going on in that kitchen. Stay away. read more

I really do want to like and support this place, but .... I have come in twice recently for breakfast and tried to order the breakfast scramble, only to be told that it would not be ready for at least forty-five minutes because they still had to cook the potatoes! And this morning, also couldn't order it because the cook was late! (So maybe they could cook the potatoes the day before, and I hope adult management is paying some attention about when the teenagers show up for work.) I did order the scramble with an English muffin instead. When it came the eggs were at best lukewarm and the muffin was warm, but raw. I asked for ketchup and hot sauce, and about 15 minutes later as I as finishing my meal they brought me the toasted muffin and siracha, which is not a good choice for eggs. Besides all this, their website is no longer up, likely because someone forgot to pay for the domain name. read more

Really delightful. Had the most yummy bowl of homemade potato soup and chai. I do wish they made their own chai or got some locally made but it was all very delicious and it's a really nice warm place to sit, eat and read. The counter person was very sweet too. read more

Ordered a burrito, cinnamon roll, and a coffee (all decent) but then the bill came out to $21. I was surprised and when asked the cashier about the cost of each item, it didn't add up to bill total. He also charged me .50 cents for water (which my friends with me were not charged for) and when pressed for an explanation he was flustered and didn't have an answer. There was a line behind me so I just paid and went on but it was not a very professional or thorough service. read more

A comfortable bookish nook for afternoon coffee and tea, and a nice way to feel connected to the community. Often staffed by volunteers there's an easygoing pace. Sometimes there are school study groups in a side room. There's a variety of baked treats and ice cream! They can do an affogato here. My favorite place in Langley so far! I just love everything: the locale, the unusual mix of events and people, the books - - and the delightful corn quesadilla I had, where I had the option of adding just a little of this, and a little of that.... and suddenly - Heaven. I understand this is run by kids and a nonprofit, but can you please teach them how to make coffee first? We waited for at least 20 minutes while we watched the glittery, sweaty barista make and remake espresso shots. I ordered a 12oz almond milk pumpkin spice latte and was made an 8oz flavorless latte with 2% milk. When I corrected him, he remade it again, AS AN 8OZ WITH NO SYRUP. I watched him and he never picked up the Pumpkin Spice bottle once. When I asked if he put it in there, he told me yes and gave me my cup. I had to fight to even get my 12oz cup size, so I wasn't planning to wait around to get syrup in there as well. My friend ordered an iced soy chai and an energy bar and the other barista completely forgot about both. When we said we just preferred having our money back, she questioned my friend if she had even paid, then when confirmed by the glittery barista, she continued to make my friend's drink. Disappointed and angry, we left the Commons with the most awful beverages we've ever had. In my opinion, this place would be much better off as a cute bookstore with drip coffee. read more

This is a love letter to The Commons. I'm so happy with your everything. Today I had a latte and some strawberry cheesecake ice cream. It was lovely. Last week I had a chai and a scone. Those were lovely, too. Each time I visit you I am happy. The people who work there are always happy. My only wish is that you'll expand your hours so I can hang out there at night sometimes. My husband and I stopped by Langley for breakfast this morning expecting to go to the Braeburns across the street, but they were closed. We ended up going to this little place and loved it! It was so peaceful and quaint. We ordered scramble eggs and belgian waffles and it was perfect. The chef did a fantastic job with our meal considering how early we showed up. I would highly recommend this place and will come here again when we are on the island. read more

Great little coffee house. Good coffee and lots of books to browse and read. They are staffed entirely by volunteer students who gain valuable work experience. Nice relaxing atmosphere, free wifi and friendly staff. I wish this place was near my house. read more
